I have a maxed out 13-in mid-2011 MBA that I bought with a 256GB SSD, at the time the largest capacity available. I keep a lot of my archive files on an iMac with a 3TB Fusion disk, but even so I was beginning to run out of capacity on the MBA and only had 11GB free. Part of the year I spend in rural Spain and although I have Internet, it's not fast, so cloud offerings are not really a viable solution. So I bit the bullet and went for the JetDrive 500 with the 480GB SSD.The Jetdrive packaging is very Apple-esque as are the written installation instructions which are appalling in their brevity. What's needed is a written link to the YouTube video (google for it).A second complaint is that there'sno mention in the installation instructions about JetDrive Toolbox software that I understand is needed for TRIM support. In the video it's about half a second to copy over files, but to copy over my 829,000 files and then verify took just over four and a half hours. Obviously if you were starting off with a 64GB SSD your times would differ.Performance of the JetDrive is sizzling—write speeds have increased from 140-248 MB/s to around 430 MB/s, read speeds have increased from 140-210 MB/s to around 480 MB/s.So far, so good. Well pleased.

Like many, I’d assumed that I was stuck with the installed SSD in my MacBook Air. OK, 256GB isn’t too shabby, but I did have to keep my music and photos on an external drive. This 960GB SSD drive is redesigned to replace your installed memory - this would enable me to move more of my documents from my external drive, making my life a lot simpler, especially when out and about. Installation is pretty simple. Being picky, I’d say that the installation guide is a bit too simple - if you’re not used to opening up computers I can imagine it feels like you’re a bit unsupported. A quick trip to YouTube helps. It’s just a case of unscrewing the back of the Air, popping it open, unscrewing the memory and replacing it.(The supplied instructions take a different route as they assume you’ll clone the current drive but I wanted a clean install.) Close the case, reboot and reinstall OS X. It’s easy to do and works like a dream. A highly recommend way of getting more space on your MAcBook Air without too much hassle. The item and packaging are top quality - it feels like an Apple product.

Thoroughly satisfied customer!!I think the product is fantastic, its what my 3 1/2 year old MBP with maxed out RAM but only 250GB SSD needed. Colossal 960 GB SSD and a fantastic USB 3 enclosure for my previous hard drive.Product quality and packaging is great, the enclosure is sturdy. New SSD is faster than apple proprietary samsung hard drive. The process of swapping drives physically is straight forward and well explained. The problem I faced on 2 occasions was the inability to clone the new hard drive. For some reason OSX El Capitan (Version 10.11.3) would not let me clone the drive and there was ambiguity of enabling trim.I used a software called SUPERDUPER ( not kidding)to clone my SSD and then performed the straight forward swap.SSD is not cheap, but I was willing to pay to max out my MBP internal storage capacity.Very happy indeed.

Overall feels like a quality product, with excellent packaging, and the aluminium UBS caddy is high quality and matched to my macbook air. The drive is now installed and working as it should be - HOWEVER, installation using the instructions did not go to plan. The instructions suggest using the Mac Drive utilities to clone the drive by "restoring" the existing drive to the Jetdrive. For me, and seemingly a number of others, this simply does not work, and the restore fails due to an "Input/Output Error". Although this seems a common error, Transcend have no published solutions. I followed some advice by using "Carbon Copy" to clone the drive, which worked first time. In the end, I'm happy, but would like the two hours I spend trying to follow the instructions back.

It took me 1 hour to install this into my Mac mini late 2012. The instructions provided are poor, but you can get good instructions on the Transcend website. However, I could not find the instructions for installing into a Mac Mini, but youtube has a good guide here: http://youtu.be/Nkbekb8yKhc. Although the SSD comes with a T6 tool, for a Mac Mini late 2012 you will also need a T8 and 2mm Allen key and a tool for prizing the little connectors apart (none of which are provided in the kit). However, once the SSD is installed, the speed difference is amazing. Boot time in seconds and login almost instantaneous. You also get to keep the original Macintosh HD in the drive case provided and use as asecond drive.Recommended.

I love this little thing - not only did it transform my MBPr (I was always smuggling files around to make room!) but the fact that it provides a housing for your old drive to become a super fast USB3 external is brilliant - copies huge files in the blink of an eye - installation was relatively stress free (all the tools are provided which is fantastic) the only slight gripe was the the fit of the new drive (which basically looks like a big RAM chip) was fairly tight which gave me a bit of a cold sweat as I was trying to get it into place. Definitely recommended.EDIT - should have said unlike others I've had no problems with Yosemite whatsoever - I haven't altered any of the setting as othersmay have.

Ordered this from Amazon and it arrived well within the estimated delivery time. The packaging is minimal but more than sufficient to protect your valuable electronics in transit. The SSD itself was very easy to setup as it fits perfectly into the OEM slot and it is much faster than the OEM part. The external USB caddy does exactly what it needs to do. No bells and whistles but a nice neatly produced enclosure.Overall and having used the new part for a couple of months, I am very happy with the JetDrive 520 and I would highly recommend it for a Macbook Air upgrade.

I only had the 128 gig mac book air SSD before this and was having to resort to external drives which goes against having a light laptop for your bag. If you want to upgrade your mac book air SSD this is the BEST option. Really easy to install. The caddy it comes wtih for your old SSD is really really really useful. My old SSD is now a very handy external drive and a friend was also able to use it for his ssd to get data off it after his laptop was badly damaged. This really breathed new life into my laptop and I would have otherwise had to sell it.

I bought this drive as a replacement for the original SSD in my early 2013 15 inch retina macbook pro (the original SSD was failing). This drive is equally as fast as the original and very reasonable in price compared to official apple drives. So much so that I went for the higher capacity option so I had some extra storage space. It comes with an external caddy so it's easy to clone the original drive (I used carbon copy cloner) and you can then use the original drive inside the caddy as a super-fast external drive.

Everything I needed to walk through the process, almost as if handheld each step of the way. Highly recommend. Kit includes the tools you need, the cables, and instructions, through I also watched video on Transcend's website which I personally found prepared me much better than reading about what to do.Do not let yourself be daunted, if you are contemplating doing this, then I highly encourage you, just make sure you match up you identify exactly the module you need (i.e. know your model and year of manufacture).

This really couldn't be easier. I've been running out of room on my Macbook Air (2011) for such a long time now and been using a USB connected drive to store everything. However I've started using my Macbook for music recently so this was so convenient. After looking around and watching the YouTube videos i took the plunge.Everything is supplied including screwdrivers; my only complaint are the supplied instructions are woefully insufficient, however a quick visit to their website and an online guide is provided.

Use case is to expand a mid-2010 MacBook Air whose original 120GB SSD proves to be too small. Installation is a doddle, the screwdrivers provided are great, and the natty case for the 'new' 120GB external drive is very smart and in keeping with the ?MBA anyway. It's fast and is happy to have ? TRIM enabled via the Terminal command. Transformed my MBA which remains lightning fast. ALWAYS ensure you have a good backup first. Installation took 10-minutes, would be 5mins next time, and data took 30' or so.

I normally stick to household DIY but bought this upgrade for my 2010 11 inch MacBook Air as only having 128 GB of storage was beginning to get annoying. Once I had printed the downloadable instructions from Transcend, this was a simple installation that anyone with basic DIY skills could do. The two screwdrivers needed were in the kit.The product itself appears to be just like my original Apple SSD, only with 240GB of storage so I can now use the laptop normally again. Saves buying a new MacBook.

Great upgrade to my Mid 2012 MBP Retina worth every penny. Performance and storage increase was the goal and the product delivered without issue. Good construction, was simple to migrate my data from the existing 250GB drive to the new 480GB drive, takes some time but worth the effort. If your MBP is starting to frustrate on general performance and you are spending more time managing free storage space this upgrade did the trick for me.

Needing to swap out the original SSD in my MacBook Air, which was failing, this proved a very good solution. It was easy to fit, following a YouTube video, and I was able to do a clean install of Yosemite, bringing across my data with Migration Assistant. So far it seems much faster, and twice as big too :). My research brought me to this drive, which generally seems highly rated.
