Dear Readers,***28th Oct 2013 - Please See the "NEW" Post Scripts....Things have Changed***O Dear, What Confusion !It is So Interesting that we have a Few Positive Thoughts, and Unfortunately, a Few Negative!BUT, "To Err is to be Human!!"Although I am a LONG Standing "Railworks" Enthusiast (I even Call myself "The Enthusiast"), I Couldn't Resist Purchasing a New Copy of This Game from Amazon.I HAD to Find-Out, Why, So Many "Poor Thoughts"!So, I Removed my Hard Disk from the PC, and Replaced It with a Fresh, Empty One. After Loading Windows 7 (32bit), I Proceeded to Load the Game (Actually, I Tried the Game on the Original Copy of Windows, and was Told, By the Installer, that I,"Did Not Have Enough Space" - It Claimed that I Needed 45Gb's !!!!!)Anyway, After some 3hrs of Downloading From "Steam" (The Gaming Platform in the USA, who Continually "Look-After" the Product, and Any Further DLC Add-Ons - Downloadable Content, that you Wish to Purchase), I Took my First Look at the DVD Version.(This is Compared to, Both this Year's "Automatic Upgrade from TS2013", Plus the Additional "DLC of TS2014", which I Laid Upon my "Original Upgraded Copy" - This Gave me the "Sheerness Extension" Route, and the New "Hamburg Route" and a USA Loco, All for an Additional £29! - It Might Seem a Little Expensive, But is GREAT Value Really for Existing Enthusiasts like Myself!)Now, the Amazon DVD Copy - IT IS NOT GOOD !!!!!Indeed, I have Spent a Lot of Hours, Trying to Achieve What I Have on my Old, Extended Copy ! (I Own Over 40 Routes So Far, and so I Know "What is Meant to Happen!")I Can See All the Critisism - Both Good And Bad, and I am Aiming to Report to the Producers, "Railsimulator.com", Anon! Now, Although I am NOT Employed by RSC, I KNOW that they are Really Concerned About the "Issues", Highlighted in These Reviews - It is Why they Upgrade at Regular Intervals, Aiming for Perfection, as Technology Allows, and Use "Steam" to Download Automatically, As Each Improvement Develops.I can Plainly See, that RSC have NOT Done what I have Just Done - i.e. Taken a Fresh Computer (Without "Steam"), and Adding a Brand New "DVD" Copy, Just as All You Potential Enthusiasts have.To Do This will "Highlight" to Them, the Errors that have "Crept-in", Due to Upgrading from Software, that Worked "Perfectly" on Previous Versions!!So PLEASE, Just Purchase "Excitably", and Persevere for Just a Short Time, since there Are Great Things Working in This Copy! The Niggly Bits WILL be Dealt with ASAP, I am Sure! Then there is the -80% Option in the Accompanying Brochure - I Entered the Number, As Instructed, and in a Very Short Time, Began to Understand "What I was Supposed to Do", and Found myself with a Full Copy of "West Coast Mainline North", for ONLY £5.00.Now, When I was Loading TS2014, I could See, (Under "Download" in the Library Drop-Down List), that the Game was Taking 3.5Gbs. The "WCML North", Alone, was a Further 1.7Gbs - i.e. A Massive Route, with Loads of Scenarios and Extra Locos. InFact, there are Locos, and the "Test Trak" Route, which is Necessary for the Simple Tutorials to Work (It is Called the, "UK Asset Pack")So, Enough, Back to Playing (My Own Original Version of Course), and I Do Hope that the People who Call themselves "wearerailfans", shall Come through with Positive Patches "REAL SOON" !!!Kindest Regards,Joseph Peter Sheehan,"PENTACONE"(The Enthusiast)PS:- THEY HAVE DONE IT !!!"Railsimulator.com" have Investigated the Problems, and Come Up With a "Patch", which Automatically Loads when we Start TS2014 / "Steam".They have Found that the Game Would Not Load Properly in "Offline Mode" - But It Does Now !!So, "Full Steam Ahead" - The Game is Working Properly, and Is Perfect to Enjoy.PPS:- Second, I have Realised that "Railsimulator.com" has Given Us a Copy of the "ICE2" Locomotive, which Normally Runs on the "Munich to Augsburg" Line, and Since This Route is Not Included, then we have Scenarios that "Do Not Work" !!However, Just for the Moment, and as a Compliment to the Release of TS2014, "Railsimulator, com" is Offering a 20% Discount on This Route - i.e. a Route Costing £24.99 for Only £19.99 DLC ( There are More Scenarios and Locos Included, It is Very Good Value !)Once you Have All These, the Game is VERY Large and will Take Many Weeks to Learn and Run All the Scenarios and Locos, PLUS the Opportunity to Create your OWN Loco Consists, and Run them on Any of the Routes Included, in "Quick Drive" !PPPS:- Thirdly, I have Purchased Another Copy of the "TS2014 DVD", from Amazon, and Taken a Third Hard Drive - With "Windows 7" on It, and a Basic Copy of Last Year's "TS2013" ( Now Upgraded Automatically, to "TS2014" of Course )Then, I have Loaded the "TS2014 DVD" On Top Off the "TS2013", and GREAT, I get ALL the Routes, All the Locos, and All the Scenarios, with NO Adverse Interference !!( Of Course I Mean All the Routes of "TS2013" and the New "TS2014 DVD" - Not ALLLL Routes in the DLC !! )So, Yet Again,Kindest Regards,Joseph Peter Sheehan."PENTACONE"( The Enthusiast )

I've been very impressed by this 'game' and as someone involved with 3d computer graphics I have to say they have done an extremely good job with the graphics and general simulation. Some have criticized that people on platforms are seen to be the same model with the same clothes, but this is an efficiency in mesh usage where a sort of memory saving replicant/ instance is used and in any case it's a simulation about railway stock. The graphics and scenery are surprisingly very good, not quite as good as GTA for instance, but GTA has less 'interactivity' going on than TS. You do need a computer and graphics card up to the job and I'd advise anyone buying to look at the required spec first.I should think most modern desktops would fit the bill processor wise as long as you have a decent Gx card. There are two basic modes, easy and expert, but they both require a degree of skill and attention to navigate the routes and especially shunting and moving/changing wagons etc. In general the manuals and in game help is pretty good, although the interface is a bit convoluted. One thing, the developer misses no chances to sell you more bits and it can be a bit in your face, but does make it easy to add stuff, which you undoubtedly will need to do as the basic package is quite basic with only a few options. Having said that I think the basic game is reasonably priced. The amount of work that went into producing this simulator is mind boggling and I don't really know how accurate all the line side scenery is- I'd say it was semi authentic and certainly the stations are extremely good. My version has not crashed yet (I mean the software) I did run into some parked wagons at the end of a siding because I wasn't paying sufficient attention... Very impressive overall!Edit: The game is very stable on my system and so no crashes.Cons: Some locos require routes you may not have and funnily enough those are the routes with tutorials on...so for instance with the Jinty steam loco (which is one of the best constructed and realistic simulations, made by a third party) you need to purchase the Brighton line (£24.00) in order to see the tutorial they provide with the loco you've already purchased... Ok, that's cunning marketing you might generously say... I don't even know that the so called 'tutorial' is of any use anyway as elsewhere extremely little help/information is given with the management of steam operated locos. Obviously this is because they aren't that straight forward to drive- not as easy as the modern locos. What's really strange is little or no information is given for an extremely critical area of rail management and that's signalling... you'd have thought...Railway signals work in a similar fashion to road traffic lights but not quite the same, as warnings have to be given in advance for an impending red light and the game penalizes you if you go wrong. It's still an impressive bundle of work.

After all the changes to the EULA for the TS2013 version of this game, I believed this game would take a dive. Instead, its popularity seems to have increased, and the DLC available for it has increased in both quantity and quality. Which is good news. TS2013 saw some excellent DLC routes available, like the Woodhead Route, the Marias Pass and new Western Lines of Scotland route (Port Road). There are also some excellent locomotives and rolling stock available, such as the Baldwin Centipede, and the 0-6-0 Jinty which is probably the most authentic recreation of a steam locomotive yet. In advanced mode, it's quite a task to handle it. Certainly not for a beginner. For 2014, new DLC is appearing, some of it brand new, and some it updated from earlier DLC. For example, Peter Gillam's excellent 56XX add-on has now been updated and is a free upgrade to those who bought the earlier version. Nice. Not all the DLC is of the highest quality, however, and some it has bugs in it which the developers seem unable or unwilling to fix. For example, on one steam locomotive, there was a problem with the live steam water injector. It was not working. I reported it twice, and on both occasions received only a standard cut-and-paste reply. Then I decided to try to fix the problem myself and found a simple error in one of the locomotive's configuration files. I corrected it and then informed the developers again of the issue. It has not been fixed. However I was able to post the fix on Steam forums.Unfortunately with TS2014, users are no longer allowed to write posts sharing their own fixes and solutions. The attitude of the developer can be summarised by this post from a moderator: "...we want to resolve support issues as quickly as possible and following advice we would not recommend does not help achieve this." And just in case we thought they weren't serious, ALL STEAM FORUMS TO TS2013/14 HAVE BEEN DELETED, and the developer is now policing the forum and removing any new posts that do not comply with their new "guidelines" in zero tolerance manner. So, it seems that there will no more discussion for those who like to tinker and learn through that. Less creativity - the developers seem to be busy stamping "unofficial" creativity out. The trend appears to be move away from an open-ended simulation platform to locked down app, iPhone style. Fortunately, with TS2014, you ARE still able to modify files, and you are NOT limited to the Steam DLC. You CAN still install 3rd Party add-ons the traditional way. But I wonder, for how much longer?WARNINGIf you buy this on a DVD, all you are buying is the license number. As part of installation from the DVD, you will need to install the Steam games platform first, and after that, TS2014 will update itself by downloading a new version - which could take a while if you don't have a good Internet speed.

I disagree with 555 comments! This is a very good sim game. I had an earlier version from Amazon; and recently received the free upgrade to TS 2014. Of course there are only a few routes and trains in the basic game, but more than enough to begin with. Think some people want something for nothing. Two or three times a year the manufacturers have a 50% off sale; well worth doing the add-ons then. I've been able to gradually extend my add-ons over the last three years. The manufacturers support is good too. Graphics are excellent. I'm an I.T. professional and I know how to evaluate software; and this is good. Please don't be put off by any negative comments.Enjoy a great experience with TS 2014 (I'm nothing to do with the manufacturers).

Purchased to run on Toshiba Satellite P875 and had memory dump problem preventing it running at all. Tried every trick on the net to no avail and almost gave up. By chance I tried running from the home screen right clicking the mouse and selecting the run with graphics processor using high performance graphics card option. Success!. It seems that these high performance notebooks have two graphics cards and TS 2014 defaults to the intel low performance card even though the nvidia is the set graphics card in the control panel of windows 8. Running from the desktop start menu and selecting high performance graphics works every time. We'll worth the effort, awesome programme with excellent graphics.

I've had Railworks from the 1st version and it just keeps getting better. Graphics have improved and the new routes are a great inclusion. Finally has a scrollable zoom in Cab which for me has been a long time coming as it meant one had to go to an external view to get a proper view of distant signals. Had quite a few SPADs due to not realising a signal was at red until too late.My only criticism is that there is still no TrackIR support and only X-Box hand controller option. Still not enough to reduce my star rate though

My 2 boys (aged 8 and 9) have 2 copies as they hate sharing (:|) and totally love playing the game. I do seem to shell out on 'special' trains/routes fortnightly but hey, if they are happy, I am.I'm not sure what the minimum specs are but it runs like magic on their custom-built (powerful) gaming computers. We bought TS2013 and got free upgrade to TS2014 which they agreed was much better in terms of graphics. Now, they're both looking forward to the free upgrade to TS2015 in a month or so.

Excellent,Only drawback is the complicated system set up by the "valve Company" who develop this site and make problems and disputes very difficult to understand. To this extent I have practically given up using this product because of the awkwardness of attempting tp re-log in this game when I had a fault on my computer and had to reload it

This is probably the best game I own, it is realistic and there is a wide range of mods to buy an download, the best mod I know about is the west somerset railway, there are 2 parts the first part you have the map and 2 trains and there is a second part which gives you an extra 2 trains

This product is value for money at this price. Does what it says on the box. Runs well on my new PC with Windows 10. No issues loading. These people have a business to run, all of you critics let us know what you have developed for a similar price?
