Build quality is as expected from Thule (excellent). Very easy to install and they give you multiple options as far as bar type and height of the rack to accomodate short or tall bindings. The spring on the end of the rack is a plus in order to accomodate the multiple size skis that are usually carried. I chose to install mine directly onto Thule AeroBlade bars using the t-slot bolts but that was not my first choice. I wanted to use the other mouting option with adjustable straps as that is easier to take off when the season is over or to be able switch to another vehicle. The reason why I chose the more integrated mount was becuase the rack only comes with four locks. What does that mean? Well,if you mount the rack using the strap option then you will need the four locks that it comes with, which leaves you without the two locks for the actual rack to lock your skis. Mounting the other ensures you can actually lock your skis and also leaves you with two extra locks...I get that it means Thule will have to spend more $$ to include the extra locks for the other option. Beause they (Thule) did not go this route, it means you will need to spend a little extra for the additional locks. The other reason why four stars is this will not be able to accomodate 4 pairs of skis based on what we ski with. Ensure you measure the boards you plan to transport so you make the right choice with size based on actual measurements vs. marketing. Our skis are a little wider and we like to trasnport them in a bag to keep junk off them. With that being said, we can carry two sets of adult skis and one pair of kid's skis and that is a very tight fit. My fault for not thinking the measurement through more but overall happy with the product.

We received this item from Vine in exchange for an unbiased review. Typically we have stowed our snowboards and skis in the back of the vehicle (since usually we only go in a pair up to Mount Hood / Mount Bachelor). This rack allows us to stow up to two snowboards (and four skis for those skiers out there... ;) ). To stow this many, you will need to insert the skis or snowboards bottom to bottom. There is enough width with most vehicle roof racks that this won't be a problem (height or width).Note: if you want extra capacity, they have the wider version for just $15 more dollars (at the time of this review). The wider version holds four snowboards and up to six skis. The unit has locks of course - very important - both on the unit itself and for the closure for the skis /boards.Rubber inserts press against and hold the skis / boards - very safe and does not damage the paint or finish on boards. If you don't have crossbars (Subaru has them standard fitted into the stock roof racks), then you will likely need Thule or Yakima crossbars (REI can get you fixed up - or contact your vehicle manufacturer). Otherwise, they are easy to install and the kit has a USB with instructions (probably just for Vine offers), but there are numerous online videos and manuals on Thule's website. Swedish practicality for you.

I've owned several different ski racks over the years and was eager to try out Thule's new Snowpack 4. Like other Thule products, this rack is of very good quality. Looks similar to their previous ski rack systems but with a few improvements. The first thing I noticed is that it's a bit slimmer than older versions, and will help aerodynamics at high speeds. This model also comes with a spring inside the rack that accommodates different thicknesses of skis or snowboards without causing one end of the rack to not clamp tight enough. The rubber on the rack arms seems quality. Nice and thick. It also comes with optional risers if you're carrying skis or snowboards with tall bindings so that they clear the roof of the car.I appreciate the oversize release buttons. This will most likely make it easier to open with gloves or mittens on. The rack came with locking cores that I had to install myself but was not difficult. The clips that attach the rack to the bars was very straight forward. It can be attached to both rectangular and round bars making it fairly a universal fit. (I have Yakima bars and it was not a problem). Overall it looks like another quality product from Thule. I will determine the durability as the ski season goes on, but I don't suspect to have any issues. Great ski rack, highly recommended.

The quality of this product is exactly what I would expect from Thule. I have owned different roof top carrier accessories from them in the past and this is just as well made if not better. For starters it easily attaches to aero bars or square tubes - I attached them to my wife's Navigator with no issues.Pros:1. Comes with the locks and keys so I don't have to run out and buy them right away in order to have my stuff stored safely.2. The rubber gasket material that holds on to the boards or skies is very thick and would almost fit a paddle board.3. you can fit 4 snow boards or 6/8 sets of skies depending on size. that would be putting one top side down and one top side up on top of each other but you can carry a families worth of gear easily.4.My favorite feature in this set is that it slides out to allow for easier storage and access to the gear in it. I wish other things I owned had this ability (my paddle board holder for example). This kept me from having to go to the other side of the car / SUV to load more gear evenly. I love this feature.5. Rugged and durable finish that will last many years of hard abuse.Cons:1. the only con I have for this unit is the price - however, I really feel you get what you pay for and while Thule is expensive the quality is second to NONE.

Never have been disappointed with any Thule product we've owned and this Ski/Snowboard Carrier doesn't disappoint either! Upon opening the box I was thrilled to receive a personalized letter to me, the Amazon Vine Reviewer and a thumb drive with 4 different videos AND an instruction manual incase you're needing that extra information while you're outside actually performing the installation. Classy. Thankful for these options as I was a bit freaked out after removing all the pieces from the box.Glad there are several options as far as height. We're a family of 5 and each pair of skis have different bindings and we were able to find an option that worked for all the skis.I was most worried about the bindings scratching the rooftop of the car. Another benefit: locks that will keep our skis safe and in our possession at all times.Complete installation was about 30 minutes. Easy once I figured out which attachments we needed for our factory-installed cross bars. Note: your vehicle must already have cross bars attached to your car in order to use this Thule carrier system.

Over the past season this has worked perfectly for us.We recently moved near a ski resort and got ourselves four passes. We quickly realized that all our equipment and ourselves would not fit together inside our Hyundai SUV. So, I got this, installed it and it's worked great for 1 snowboard and 3 skis. The best part is definitely the slide-out feature. It's a good thing though I am 6'4" because I don't think my 5'7" wife would be able to manage it.We've even done a good job of remembering not to drive into the garage with it. It'll fit just under the door as long as there is nothing in the rack. On the highway, you can definitely hear it but it's not crazy loud. The ol'SUV only get 19MPG anyway and as far as I can tell this really hasn't affected anything in that regard.Sadly though, our Hyundai SUV is being sold including this ski rack. I will however be buying Thule cross-bars and this ski rack again for the new SUV. That's how well it works. I just wish it came in all black to match the new car.

First I’d like to state this will be a somewhat biased review since I am and have been a Thule fan since I bought a non-Thule rack years ago, only to see it blow off my roof along with my long surf board on the freeway. I called in the mishap to highway patrol and they stopped traffic to retrieve the pieces of the rack and my cracked surfboard. So needless to say, I didn’t spare any change in purchasing a top of the line rack to avoid a dangerous mishap such as this, and in that regard, Thule has been spectacular.Anyway, I have had nothing but positive experience with this Thule rack as well. Installation, and especially the instructions via manual and USB drive are very user friendly.Quality is top notch as expected, and rack is flexible. The design and functionality is a marked improvement from the set I bought over 10 years ago; better aerodynamics via the low profile, and thinner/lighter/more compact. Very happy with high quality and durable product.

Have had four pairs of skis on this rack this winter ... I have a large family estate car, this solution was perfect for my needs, it left space for a half-width roofbox, I looked at the more expensive versions that slide out from the car to load the skis and I certainly would not have needed to spend the extra cash.In use: Once mounted - which can be a bit fiddly so worth doing when you aren't pushed for time - it's secure, easy and quick to use.Height: It comes with extensions to raise it high off your roof in the case of large bindings but with Thule standard aerobars mounted on my roof rails I did not need them.Noise: Not sure if it's the aerobars (without the rubber inserts)or the ski rack but it is quite noisy (hence not 5 stars)Overall: I'm very happy with my purchase and would both buy again and recommend to a friend. Final point is that with 4 sets of skis your poles have to go in the boot

My family has long turned to Thule for great bike racks. We have found Thule racks to be secure, to not damage the car or the equipment it is holding, and to not be overpriced. This ski/snowboard carrier follows suit. Same great quality we have also gotten from Thule.Hurrah! The instructions are clear, detailed, and have lots of illustrations. I hate it when a great product is hampered by difficulty getting it set up due to poor instructions. Not a problem here. This rack is super easy and intuitive to use. No struggling with my skis. I’m pretty short and it’s slightly awkward to handle long skis on top of a car that is about as tall as I am. This rack doesn’t make putting my skis on or off the car a difficult task.Thumbs up to that.Thule's one key system, in which one key does it all, is an extra plus. Just making things easier and easier.

I just drove almost 2,000km with this rack carrying my skis. I use it with the factory rack on my Subaru Forester. I’ve been through all sorts of weather: heavy snow, light snow, a moderate rainstorm, even a heavy windstorm that would blow my car out of its lane. The skis and my poles never moved through it all! There is a weak rattling sound coming from it, but everything is solid whenever I checked: the ski, the poles, the rack itself. Whatever is rattling is annoying me, but not affecting anything. I will find out what it is and tape it. Also fuel economy suffers a bit, but that was expected. Not sure what else is to say. I wish it was cheaper. Like my other Thule rack, the ski rack is excellent, but probably overpriced.

This roof rack made my life sooooo much easier. I went from hauling snowboards on a little car to using a small SUV (Subaru Forester) and the height difference was making me crazy. I'm tall, 5' 10", so it's not like I can't reach the top of my car... but this rack just makes everything easier. Also, being able to load the whole rack from one side gave me the advantage of being able to park up against snowbanks or other tight spots. The rack itself is the high quality I expect from Thule. It was easy to install on the factory rack and easy to use. It hasn't had any problems with ice either! I'm very happy with it!

The Thule Snowpack is a sturdy rack capable of carrying four skis or two snowboards.Whether it's worth paying more for the extender rack is a personal choice. On the plus side, it brings the rack closer to you for loading. On the down side, it raises the rack up, moving it further away from you. It might be worth testing at a local shop. If the extender allows easy loading, it's a good deal. If you still can't reach it, it's pointless. The rack mounted on my factory Outback rack without issue. I already own a Thule Hyper XL roof box, so after some testing, I have decided to stick with it over the Snowpack

7.3.2020

Easy to install myself. Directions were pretty bad though - all pictures, no words. You can find plenty of videos on YouTube on proper installation. Extender makes it really easy to get the skis/snowboards on and off. Rubber straps are really hard to secure and harder to get off. I used a shoehorn as leverage to pry them off.

This product arrived on time. I do understand that the packaging was a little damaged, but not very much. All the parts inside the box were still in their original packaging and most it was clear had never been opened. I'm sure the rest hadn't but I couldn't tell as the bags had never been sealed. All in all I am delighted.

26.4.2017

Extremely simple to fix to the roof bars. When the skis were mounted, the carrier held them firmly. The carrier's "clamping" bars are faced with thick rubber pads which grip the skis well and in conjunction with the multi position bar lock, ensures that skis of varying thickness are accommodated.
