Absolutely loving this bad boy! We originally had a cheap and nasty roof box from France (long story!). It sat in the garden, for want of anywhere better to keep it, and got slowly more and more rotten. Cobwebs, snails, green slime. Eventually, when we came to use it, I cleaned it all up and found it didn't fit our Thule Wing bars. Time for a new roof box.I didn't want the new one to live in misery in the garden so decided a fold up was a good move. Found this: price was good, reviews upbeat, made by Thule; sounds perfect! Took delivery, set it up, installed on car and set off for first trip. It didn't hold anywhere near as much as our old one but that's to be expected since it's quite a lot smaller. However, it didn't hold even as much as it looks like it's holding in the pictures...emptied; re-packed another time. Emptied; re-packed yet another time. I finally started to realise, and can now, much later, confirm, that there is a bit of skill involved in picking what to put in and how to put it in. It's not just a chuck-everything-in roof box like a solid one.We use it for camping so we have pillows, sleeping bags, clothes, coats, etc. Soft is key. Get as much soft stuff in as you can making a vague roof box shape. Get it all up to the front (of the car) and star to zip up. Stuff more things down the zipped sides and into the gaps at the top. Keep zipping and squeezing into the gaps and eventually as you get the zips towards the front, and you can't get any more in, zip both together and whizz them both around to the access side. There always seems to be a little pocket left you can't get to mind you :)Everything emptied, rolls off the top of the bar, into its sleeping bag and into the loft. Easy to install, easy to pack away; fantastic!

The capacity is not as great as I had expected it to but I was still able to fit a lot of stuff into it freeing up space in the car itself. Fitting it to the roof bars for the first time took about 20 minutes but that was because I was doing it alone and I was unfamiliar with it and I wanted to be sure it was secure knowing that I would be driving a lot of miles on French motorways. Now I know how it works I expect to be able to fit it much quicker in future. Removing it is a doodle and takes no time at all. I can vouch for the fact it is waterproof. We spend three days driving up through France and it rained very heavily on two of those days. The only time water got inside was when we arrived home and opened the wet lid to get stuff out.Water dripped off the lid and onto stuff inside. I can't blame the roof box for that. I should have waited or dried it off with a cloth first. The only problem with the foldaway roof box is that you cannot have it attached to the roof bars while it is empty so you have to carry it in the car itself. Packed away into its carry bag it takes up the same amount of space as a large suitcase so be prepared for that if you are intending (as we were) to use it only for the return journey.

Five stars due to value - Can't believe the cost of these things. Picked this soft top up for about half the cost of nearly all the other hard tops available. It worked great to France and back. Folded up in the garage now not taking up too much space. Also fits in the boot if you need it to.Not as big as most others but was perfectly adequate for me and my family. After bulging out the boot on previous holidays, it was nice to be able to look out the back window this time.Slightly worried about safety, but just don't keep anything valuable in there. Bedding/sleeping bags etc. ought to be fine, and to be honest no one seemed to be interested in having a look inside anyway. If you're really paranoid you could always fold it up on arrival.Waterproofing seemed to hold out fine. Zips and straps etc. were all solid. Bit fiddly to set up and take down, but nothing major. Not a massive fan of the 'quick lock' mechanisms which were a slight pain tbh. But they got the job done in the end. They are a bit too complicated for their own good.Best of all this actually fit my Fiat Bravo. And looked great.

Whilst other roof boxes have more capacity, their downside is the fact they are rigid and can't be easily stored. This neatly gets round the storage problem by folding up into a bag that can be put in a cupboard or loft.We use this with Thule Wingbars so no problems at all with fitting, and once you reach your destination, it simply rolls up and gets put away. Easy.I'd been concerned about noise, but it was surprisingly quiet in use. It's a good idea to fill up with soft items so there are no areas that can flap and cause noise. The tie down straps can be Velcroed in place so they don't start to move in the wind.First time we used this carrier was in the torrential rain over Christmas, but the contents stayed dry for about 300 miles of driving rain and sleet. It's good to check that the mounting holes on the bottom are covered, but there are little vinyl stickers provided that make sure you have no water ingress. If you don't have a garage or space to store a full size roof box, this adds extra space quickly and simply.

Great idea.I love the fact that we can fold it away so easily and it takes up a fraction of the space of a hard top. Folded, it takes up about the same space as 2 full rucksack, one on top of the other. It comes with its own 'stuff sack' for storage, along with a pull-string bag for the roof-rack brackets, and 2 belt to secure your stuff inside the "ranger." It goes into the attic when not needed. It can be fitted to the roof rack in less than 5minutes! and removed just as easily. We use it to go camping; throw all the camping gear on top - 6man tent, 5 sleeping bags, blow up mattresses, foldup table and 5 chairs and camping stove. And when we set up camp,we can then take the "ranger" and roof-racks off and stow them in the boot. This is not a huge roof box, but it is a best-of-both-worlds solution. Big enough for our summer camping and occasional weekend trips, and when folded, small enough to take up no space at all in the attic.

Great product for those that don't have the storage space for a hard shell roof box. I keep mine in the loft when not in use. Overall the build quality is great and it feels extremely robust. The zips are strong and can be a little tough to zip up. The box is fairly easy to attach to your roof bars, with the fixings taken some getting used to, but once you have taken the box on and off a few time they are pretty easy to use. We took this camping this year and as we have a small car it provided tmuch needed additional space, basically added the equivalent of my boot space. We went through constant rain and a thunderstorm with HAIL! over our 4 hours of motorway driving and everything was dry inside!Remember to use the provided patches to cover the fixing hols that you don't use. Used it for boot fairs also. Take me about 10 mins to retrieve from loft and fix to the car now.

I'll leave a compact review: It's a great premium box with advantages and disadvantages.Cons: It's not vast but adds valuable space I needed after downsizing from BMW 5 tourer to an Audi S3.You're not supposed to drive with it empty, though It can be done.Security is not great and not really worth locking the zips. The locking mechanisms are a bit obtrusive, though we use sports bags rather than hard suitcases, so impact for us was not too bad.Pros : Storage, this is its main selling point, folds and stores in a well made bag.Flexible material makes use of space easier. No noticable noise or flapping I had expected.Fitting and removing is super easy and offsets concerns with security and drivingwith it empty.

this bag was brilliantso so easy to put onto the roof bars.literally four U-clips into four connectors... click, click, click, click done.We got in 4 packed sports bags plus various towles/blankets/dog stuff... very quiet even on motorway. ANd no danger of ripping like the cheaper alternatives as the material is very strong indeed; as expected from a Thule product. Now its neatly in it's bag on a shelf in the garage tucked out of the way til we need it next.I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND this bag. Brilliant piece of kit by Thule.

For people who want a roof box but don't have the room to store it, this is the only alternative. It comes in its own carrier along with the bits you need to fix it to your roof bars. I managed to get it all fixed to my Ford Galaxy in about 10 mins, taking it down and stowing it away was equally as simple.Yes there are cheaper alternatives out there, but read the reviews on them, they're awkward to assemble, they leak, they're noisy in transit and made of inferior materials, the Thule is none of that.My trust is in Thule

If you don't want a solid roof box lying around or don't have space to store one, this is the answer. Folds down remarkably well. Tough material. Only used once so far but stayed dry inside when rained. Down sides? You have to pack it fully to get less wind resistance and noise and you can't just pop the lid to find that thing you forgot to take out. You o need to take it off when it's not packed but the quick release clips make that easy. All on all, ease of storage make the odd inconvenience well worth putting up with.

I have used a Thule Ranger for three years now for family holidays - it can comfortably accommodate a couple of 90-100 litre holdalls (e.g. North Face duffel bags) freeing up valuable space in the car.It is easy & quick to put on and off & it folds up small to go in your loft, shed or under your bed for the rest of the time when you don't need it.No huge noise from running it so long as you stay below the 70mph limit on motorways & dual carriageways.

We haven't used the item yet for a journey but we've put it on top of the car to check it works. Very simple to put on and take off (you do need someone tall or a step ladder). Looks good. Think that we'll make sure we wrap everything up to prevent water getting in bit it looks like it should be well protected. Best part is that it folds away small enough to pop in the loft! We didn't use Thule roof bars and it works fine.

Great product. Lots of extra room for a family camping trip. Easy to attach to roof bars.We travelled to Cornwall and had very very heavy rain for over 2 hours. One sleeping bag got slightly damp but everything else stayed dry.I would really recommend. Stored in our loft and stored in the boot whilst on holiday so we didn't have to drive around with roof box all the time. A brilliant product.

25.4.2016

The perfect answer to a roof box without the storage issue. Very good quality build. Arrived promptly. We did however send ours back - our car is high (Ford Ecosport) and this made it a big problem with fitting it to the roof bars, even with a step my husband couldn't see inside the box to locate the fixings - such a shame this is a brilliant product. Excellent service by the seller on returns

7.8.2016

Absolutely perfect for using on holiday. The first time attaching the box to the roof bars using the instructions was slightly fiddly but subsequent times were much faster. It is capacious enough to take care of carrying extra luggage (eg. blanket, clothing and walking equipment) and Storage is excellent, as it folds up into its bag and fits into the coroner of a wardrobe ready for next time.
