Well, if you have played The Sims or The Sims 2 before, I don't even have to tell you how good this expansion will be, so I'll assume you're a newcomer.Right from the start, The Sims has been a hit, and the core motivation of what drives players to enjoy The Sims is the delicate balance that the developers have achieved between fantasy and reality.Just having fun and seeing your Sim families achieve success from their job was the focal point of the original Sims game. Then proceedind expansions offered alot more interactivity, building options and endeavours - including; pet training, become a movie star, casting spells and going camping to name a few. However, The Sims being as an amazing achievement as it was,The Sims 2 was a truly astonishing feature. The most noticable improvement was the graphics and realism of the little people themeselves, and the accurate 3D modelling of the household items. Also, an overhaul of the architectural facilities of the build mode was a complete delight - building homes was fun before but this was something else. Then in true Maxis style, it wasn't long befoe an expansion was released for the Sims 2 - 'University'. This allowed players to send their Sims to college and get a degree which in turn opened up new career options that paid alot more money than average jobs. The next expansion - 'Nightlife', was a diamond for Sims fans because as great as it's new features were (nightclubs, restaurants, vampires and bowling) it was the CARS (yes you read that right) that got most players excited - as cars have been on Sims players wishlists since the beginning. Now, it's a new year and a new way to play the Sims. 'Open for Business' will be a treat for players, as I can speak for a lot of Sims fans when I say that business management has a been a Sims fan's fantasy for a long time - because it offers an opportunity for playability that can be both fantastic and realistic - however you play to choose. All in all - Maxis have never disappointed when it comes to Sims games - and don't expect that they will with 'Open for Business'. It's going to be great - and I for one will be getting up early and taking the day off college come 3rd March - I advise you to do the same.Thankyou for reading, M.Gore.

This expansion for the Sims 2 is the first that I really appreciate, despite liking the other two. The opportunity to get your sims running their own businesses breaks down the divide between work and home, allowing a more inclusive experience of your sims' efforts to make money and use the skills they build up over time.Along with the obvious necessary processes in running a business, there are also some great oddball moments that the programmers throw in to make it fun (as always). Bad makeovers at the salon and untrained cashiers make for absurd, humorous situation, but all these can be overcome with a little patience.A big plus point with this expansion is that you can rename lots from the neighbourhood view even if they have been built on,or a family has moved in. Also, your sim can buy a community plot to run their business from in any neighbourhood - the newly introduced 'shops' one, downtown, university or the original. Unfortunately, whilst playing with a family, they cannot visit your other sims' business lots, or home lots(in the case of a home business) to purchase their goods or services (only those community lots not occupied by any of your business sims, as before). Whilst playing with a business sim, however, sims from your other games will buy goods and have makeovers etc., with the results being seen when you next play that family. The extra objects you receive aren't necessarily special, although there are new roof forms - dome, cone and octagonal-based cones - which are brilliant if you're tired of the regular styles, but personally I find them a little awkward to use and need a bit of practice. If you haven't bought any of the other expansions yet, I'd suggest this one on the basis of new gameplay.

This expansion pack is a great idea. You don't get other games like this one but it is quite boring. It is really hard to start a buisness for starters. You can do the home buisness but... you don't get much of a life if you want to live on your shops income. The lots in Bluewater are so expensive you would have to save up for most of your sims life to be able to aford one of these lots. When you actually have started your buisness. you can't seem to have any income anyway. I don't know if its just me that cant play the game or if its the game thats too hard. I can barely get anywhere in the game before I go bankrupt! The game if you weren't so skint would be great. You can make your own produce (like toys, flowers and robots!) or you can sell things that are from the catalog e.g furniture. The control you have over your employes is fun also, and being able to drive them to the brink of death is really fun. It is quite demanding to be the owner of a shop. For example a father is the owner of a toy store he has two boys and their mother died from being striked by lightning. He has to go to the store in Bluewater everyday. This means he has to get a nanny for the boys and when the father comes hoe from the shop his needs will be low and therefore the time with the boys will be lost.Overall this game is great once you get started but can be hard at times. So if I were you I would definetly get this game and experience the hard work that goes into a buisness.

Got to try this out at the weekend and all I can say is...Amazing.The ability to get your Sims running their own business adds so much more to the game, not to mention the whole host of new interactions that go along with it (Being able to have your own employees, influencing customers while your trying to make the big sell etc. etc.) There are too many new and amazing things to mention in 1000 words - You'll just have to try them out yourself!Couple of minor negatives -1) The usual dropping you into the deep-end with expansions problem - You will, literally, have to try all the things out for yourself as there certainly isn't a big manual telling you about them. So it might be a bit hit and miss at first.Trying to get more people to buy the Prima strategy guides I think ;-)2) Because this expansion adds so much to the game, it starts saving your Sims games in a different format; and as it warns you when you come to install this will have consequences if you ever want to remove this expansion (It asks you to make a backup of all your old Sims 2 files first though). I'm not sure how/if this will effect players who get this particular expansion before getting Nightlife/University. That sort of thing was a problem with the original Sims I believe.All-in-all, well worth getting.

This is the only expansion pack that I currently have and it is great. The pack adds so much to the original game and extends the game life massivly. Firstly you have turn ons and turn offs which affect how sims react to each other. You then have a few added carear paths aswell as the new option to open a business at home or in a community lot. These vairy from salons, restaraunts, cafés, arcades, corner shops, Shops to sell any items for the home and ones that can sell items made at a workstation. You can now hire and fire your own staff aswell as promoting them so you can run many businesses from the comfort of your own home. You gain customer stars from pleased customers which can work towards special perks improving your business by lowering whole sale cost, improving social network, asessing customers, getting prise money and increasing sales skills. As you business stars increase more customers come in and demand grows therefore more staff are required.Home businesses are slightly easier and doors can be locked to private rooms so that customers do not eat all your food. It is also easier too keep your sims life levels up beins so close to your house. All in all a superb game recommended for everyone.

I really enjoyed this game although I would not advise you to buy this if it is the first expansion pack that you are going to buy as it is one of the harder ones. I made this mistake but I am getting used to it and now enjoy it. It is best to start of with one person living on there own so that you can focus all of the attention on just that person as all of thier levels go down very quickly as they are working. Most of the time is spent of improving your business rather than having a family but I did manage to fit a family in, in some cases when I became more familiar with the game. Another thing that is hard about the game is that if you start of with something very time consuming like alarge restaurant it becomes very hard to hire the right amount of people and give them enough brakes before they get fed up and walk giving you lots of angry customers and then ending up with very poor reviews and no business. Start of with something small like a corner shop and build your way up, it then becomes alot easier!Overall a good expansion pack but takes some practise and not advised for first time expansion pack buyers.

This game requires a little extra effort when playing. The only reason I gave it four stars was because it only adds to the game play when you add the effort. Unlike expansions such as seasons, (which adds to your game without you thinking about it), you have to create the business and run it to see the effects of the expansion. However, when I do play the expanison, it is fantastic. It can be hard to create a successful business, stopping it from being boring. You become glued to the game, trying to create a business that will start gaining your family money, be popular with its customers and give you businesses perks. There are lots of little additions and a lot of effort has been taken to make this expansion, making the game play more enjoyable. Although it can be hard to create a successful business, the concept of running the businesses isn't too difficult to understand. There is a businesses toolbar in the game, making the business feature much easier to use. This is a great expansion, especially if you are a little bored of your sims game and feel like a challenge or new interest.

As it says in the title, personally after buying all the Sims 2 expansion packs, Open For Business offers the most fun. Not only can you run and manage businesses, you can also buy and sell your own, as well as make your own business at home! It offers more to do than any other expansion pack including an entire pre-made shopping village which you can add-on to a town of your choice. Also with the expansion pack are hundreds of fabulous new items which you will want to use straight away. My personal favourite being the lift which is extremely handy and great to use.The only down-side of this game is that when you do get a business running, 100% of your time and effort has to be put towards running it.Open For Business is not an expansion pack for people who just want fun, it is in fact quite hard to cope with everything at once (more so because I own all the xpansion packs!).Otherwise this is a fantastic expansion pack, and for what you are paying, you will sure get your money's worth.

I love the idea of this expansion pack and it gives a whole new meaning to the original sims game, however i am finding it quite demanding and some what hard to keep buisness running sucsessfully. This may be because i havent quite got the hang of it yet having only installed it this afternoon but i havent dared let my current sims couple have a baby or adopt a pet until my shop workers are talented enough to run my sims buisness on their own and my sim has to stop driving down to the community lot everyday to keep the buisness going. There are some nice new objects with this game aswell which can be placed in your sims home and of course loads of display cases and shop stuff to place on yourcommunity lots. The current buisness im trying to run has my sim selling their painted canvas art work and flowers crafted from the floral stand, but you can really sell anything so there are lots of great things you can try out! Hard work, but i really do recomend this pack for any sims 2 fan! :)

I have played almost all the Sims games, pc and console-wise, and I would like to say that the Sims 2 on pc (and I own it on pc, gamecube, and the gameboy), is by far the best Sims games I have ever played. Much more real-life than all the others.I would like to be able to center furniture and stuff when placing it, or caddy-corner it. But I love the way the appliances go into the counter like real life and the counters follow around the corner. That was really cool! And I love the fact that you go through different stages of pregnancy, but I think you should have cravings (like a pic of certain food pops above your head) and you should be able to have twins and triplets. You should also be able to do all this on the console versions of the sims games (gamecube, ps2, xbox) because the way you have babies on there really sucks thus far!Over all I am a HUGE Sims fan, I love all there games I have played. Including the gameboy versions, which are more for little kids.

I have to admit I was getting a little bored with my sims until Open for Business came along. It opens up a whole new dynamic to the game, unlike Nightlife which basically was a better version of Hot Date for the original Sims game, this expansion is completely new. You buy a business, hire employees, keep track of cash flow, improve the business, get rewards and perks. The only problem is it takes a really long time to make any money. Even with cheating a little. University was good but I got bored as it took too long to graduate. This expansion just has something that appeals to me, I love games like Sim City 4, where you control the finances, this has a small element of that. The new clothes are cool but there is very little new furniture. And isn't it about time we got some new plants for the garden Maxis? Pleeaasee.Overall I believe it is the best expansion yet.

When I saw the trailer for this expansion pack I could see it was awesome but I had no idea how awesome. I really enjoy this game and have so much fun with it. If you have Pets you can have your own Pet Store/Animal Shelter. My rank 10 business is called Pet Pantrey, a small pet shop and adoption center. You can have your own simply market, game store, furniture store, even a Wal-mart! Also you can have a Bakery, Salon, Restaurant and a Toy store. It might seem confusing at first but you catch on really fast. As far as running your own animal shelter as far as I know you can't purchase kennels like at a real shelter but you use the Display cases the pets are in like at the pet shops that come with Pets. Its a great game and a must have to your Sims 2 collection

I bought The Sims 2 game after playing the original Sims on PS2 with a friend. I loved the game! Then, I was scrolling through Amazon and saw Sims 2: University, bought it, played it - that was great too! Then I saw Open for Business. Bought it, played it and it's the best expansion! It offers loads of new items, great gameplay and is generally excellent all round! The reasons I've only given it 4 stars is because, like the other Sims games, it takes ages to load (depending on your PC) and occasionally crashes if you need a virtual memory update or your running other programs accidentally. But overall, a really good buy!(Don't run any other programs whilst playing the Sims 2 games.Particularly things like MSN and internet browsers etc.)

I think it's fair to say that Maxis have effectively bled the Sims 2 series dry, making a LOT of money from it. In this expansion, I believe you actually get something new.Creating a business is probably the most rewarding experience I've ever had on the sims, and the most challenging. From managing your employees, to making sure you're not out of stock, things can get a little stressful but that didn't stop me from making a three storied furniture store! This game is undoubtabley a challenge, even more so to the regular Sim fan. I'd only get this if you want a completely new Sims experience and are up for figuring out the kinks. Best expansion to date for the series.
