With super-zooms it's always the same:I buy them for their convenience, knowing that they will not deliver as a prime lens does, but then I luckily have a couple of those as well so I don't bother too much. After all, I just want a walk-around lens, right? So the "add to basket"-button is activated. Then comes the first field test on a sunny day. I'm so happy I can take a close portrait directly after framing a huge landscape. I don't miss a shot and everything works out just fine. ......until I come home and see what I got on my computer: soft edges, smudgy contrast, distortion and chromatic aberations galore....That is what I bought a DSLR for? Hell,I could have sticked to my bridge-cam!And the "not so super"-zoom goes right back to the dealer. End of story? It was like that with a Tamron 18-270 pzd for Canon, a sigma 18-200 f3.5-6.3 DC HSM OS II (the new one with the so called fluorite like glass) and with the venerable Canon 18-200 IS.BUT NOT WITH THIS TAMRON FOR NEX SUPER-ZOOMMy first shots really impressed me. Very sharp at the wide angle. Very sharp even at full tele and with the widest aperture available. Contrast is good throughout the zoom range. The silent image stabilizer works efficiently and the AF - though not on par with the best - does a pretty good job as well.I just couldn't find any reason not to like this product. Now of course we are still talking about a super-zoom here. So please don't expect miracles. But I must say. The results you get from your NEX with this thing are really good and thus absolutely adequate for all purposes you might buy this thing for. After all: if you plan to publish your work or want to print big, you would not consider to pick a super-zoom anyway, would you?So after all this lens makes a superb add-on to any ambitious amateur's lens collection. Buy this one and one or two prime lenses and your set.I am really happy with my purchase. Good luck with your choice!PS: If you ask, how the Sony SEL compares to the Tamron, I can only give a general advice since I had the Sony only for a very short time.As almost everybody on the internet confirms the SEL 18-200 and the Tamron for NEX 18-200 seemed to me very very close in terms of image quality. The Sony had a better AF imho and the AF and the stabilizer were even less noisy than the with Tamron. The latter is smaller lighter, cheaper and suits the black NEX better. So what do I suggest?Well, if two product are so close in terms of quality, I'd suggest that you stop brooding and just chose one. You cannot go too wrong, can you?Good luck once more!

I bought one of these a few weeks ago after comparing reviews between this and the Sony equivilent and am very pleased with it so far. I have two NEX 6s and an NEX 5n and have used it on all three without any issues ( a couple of reviews have said there were focussing problems etc.) so far other than one minor niggle, that being the start up time, it takes a couple of seconds to kick in when you turn on the camera which can be all it takes to miss a shot. The weight in the hand feels comfortable, easy enough to carry around one handed. I have 2 Nikon SLRs as well as the Sonys and am going to New York for a week in May, first time there and the Nikons seemed the obvious choice to take especially as I have an 18-300mm for the Nikon but to be honest, nice as the extra 100mm is I'm happy with the reach of the Tamron and after a lot of side by side testing of one of my D7100s versus an NEX 6 I'd say the NEX 6 and Tamron take equally good pictures (in a lot of instances I actually found I preferred the NEX shots cdespite the D7100s bigger pixel count). The D7100 and 18-300mm are pretty heavy and bulky in the hand and I really didn't fancy wandering around NY, especially as it'll be pretty warm then by all accounts, with a big camera on my shoulder or in my hand and i didn't want to be constantly zipping and unzipping a camera bag, the Tamron / NEX6 combo is less conspicuous and so more convenient just to carry by hand. All in all I'm very happy with the lens (just wish Sony would make a teleconverter !) and would happily recommend it, just dropped the one star for the start up lag.

I've been looking for an all purpose lens for the much maligned EOS-M for some time. Although Canon have produced only three lenses for this camera, up until now, no third party lens manufacturers have made anything which fits the M mount. So when I saw this and looked at the youtube reviews for the equivalent lens for the Sony mirrorless range I went ahead and bought it. The size and weight are not too much to be carried around all day. The lens far outweighs the size of the little EOS-M and when attached looks a bit oversized but the flexibility it gives you is worth it.It's well built and functions smoothly i.e. the zoom is not too stiff and nicely weighted. The lens lock prevents the zoom from extending when you carry it. That's a good feature I wish Canon would employ on some of their lenses. The picture quality is very good at all zoom lengths. However, as with all long range zooms there is a sweet spot for aperture and zoom length. In the limited time I've had it I reckon f5.6 at around 150mm zoom gives the very best results for sharpness. With a little bit of post editing you can get really sharp results at all zoom lengths and I was very impressed with the quality. So, to sum up. It's very much worth the money. It's a great everyday all purpose lens you can carry around attached all day without your shoulder getting tired. The picture quality is great (which is what it's all about really) and I'd have no hesitation in recommending it to any EOS-M owners.

Having bought the Canon EOS M Camera with the 18-55mm lens , I added the 11-22 mm for landscape shots but wanted something with a bit more reach . I was looking at the Canon 55-200 mm but was put off by the reviews of the plastic body and was dubious as to whether the alternative of the Tamron 18-200 mm lens would be able to cope with the earlier known problems of focus lock on the EOS M camera .After a few weeks of debating the Pro,s and Con,s , I took the plunge and ordered through Amazon choosing next day delivery , this took 2 days and is my only negative comment .The lens is a very comforting chunky build and obviously weighs a bit more than the Canon version but is more than able toperform what it was designed for and I now find that this lens is the one attached to the Camera permanently and the original 18-55 mm lens is now redundant .I wish I had ordered sooner .

I've been using this on my nex5n for just over a week now and am really impressed - very quiet and fast, great image quality, just what I needed - I use the camera mainly for travelling, where size and weight are critical. A few weeks ago I bought the LA2 adaptor so I could use my existing sony lenses (especially my 18-250), but with adaptor and lens fitted, I might as well have taken my dslr!(so LA2 returned). Instead, bought this and am very pleased. It is far lighter and smaller than the sony 18-200, and while it is not cheap, it is £200 less than the sony. And as I said earlier, the image quality seems to be very good - far better than I'd anticipated from a zoom. Will update after a couple of moths use,but so far so good!

A lens that does the job. The focus ring feels a bit too stiff and harder to move (but you don't want it too loose - Canon has the right amount of friction with their lens). Of course it won't get the performance of my full-freme 200mm f:/2 or my 400mm f:/2.8 but this is in a different league and is ideal for my jacket pocket if out with the EOS-M at a time I don't want to take the full kit.I just wish the damn lens cap would stay on. It feels a very poor connection or click and you only have to breath near it and it jumps off (slight exaggeration but you get the point). That said, I could have returned the lens. I didn't and I do use it. So for what I got I'm not dissatisfied.

I am a traveller and I wanted all rounder lens which can do landscape to Portrait. I found this lens is helpful for my Canon M50 whenever I am going for a vacation. Its a nice little lens (compared to other 18-200 lenses) which is capable of taking decent images in day light. The focus is very fast, provided you have enough lights available.I do not need to change my lenses as this can do Landscapes, Macros and Portraits. Stabilization is decent. I recommend this lens who loves travel.

This lens is a great addition to my collection lennses came well packaged in the box and was suprised with the quality of the lens itself nice feel, lock to the camra smoothly and fits firm with no movment or shake, feels good in your hand and when the zoom lens is fully extended it does not collape on itself like the sony version. overall this is a great lens and would recomend it to anybody who was on the fence

I don't have time to write a great review however what I will say is that you can read all about this elsewhere but what you won't read and what I have come to find is that if you are planning on taking any action shots...forget it. It uses only 5 pdaf points of the 190 odd that the A6000 has. Other than that its a great lens. However, it isn't good enough for my needs so I have returned it.

I think wolf's head was unlucky, I think that the lens meets and surpasses expectations. It's relatively sharp through most of its range and it's focus is fast acceptable for stills- not so good for video. I would rate the lens 8/10 for build- 7/10 for performance, great travel lens.

1.5.2015

This lens has enabled me to take lots more interesting photos. I now take my Canon EOS M with me wherever my DSLR would be cumbersome, in fact I often take both!

18.11.2013

What can you say about this lens other than it is well made and does the job. I have used it only a few times so far but it has met my expectations

23.2.2013

Excellent lens for the Sony Nex5r, a pity the camera isn't supplied with this lens as original equipment. Makes the standard 18-55mm lens redundent

3.9.2015

Fantastic Lens, works flawlessly with the Canon eos M system & produces great images. Very robust & well made. I highly recommend this product.

14.3.2015

Much smaller than I expected but heavy for it's size, the weight however balances the camera well so this is not an issue.
