I bought this lens about a year ago and used it primarily for wildlife photography with my D500. Having used pretty much all supertelephoto lenses up to 600mm compatible with Nikon bodies (including the behemoth of 600F4 prime) I do not think it produces results much different than the competitors. It is the lightest of zooms, produces very decent results when used correctly and will not break the bank. Personally due to its weight and versatility i prefer it over 500F4 prime when traveling. I shoot 90% of my photos handheld (BIF) and when used at high shutter speeds have no reason to complain about quality. Having said all this,as all things in life this lens has a number of relatively minor flaws: VR is not as good as the numbers or reviews would make you believe. When shooting BIF, the best results require speeds in excess of 1/2500 and ideally 1/3000, or at lest that's my experience. The switches are annoyingly easy to move so i have to turn the lens in its collar when mounted to a strap as otherwise rubbing against my leg the AF/VR and range switches end up in random positions. The lens hood is a bit flimsy and I managed to lose one while on the shoot. The replacement from park cameras was £40+ so beware. Overall I think it has a slight advantage over competitors from Nikon and Sigma due to lower weight and/or longer focal length. I was considering selling it when I bought my 500mm prime but decided against it due to the convenience and versatility it offers.

Really nice lens, bought to complement my 500mm prime. Image quality is very good, not as good as the prime, but that is 12 times more expensive, so not exactly a surprise. It's plenty good enough for professional use though and I know a fair few pros who use this lens for their work. It's a lot lighter than the prime, and a lot lighter than the sigma equivalent (the sigma is only a few hundred grams lighter than the 500mm f/4, this is over a kilo lighter than the 500!) Making it easy to carry around and much more aeroplane friendly.Reach is very good at 600mm, bokeh quality is very good but not super smooth due to the aperture. Image stabilization works very well, but I find the image jumps around the viewfinder, not like the canon implementation which is much smoother, this is a little distracting until you get used to it, but it physically works fine. It's very quiet in operation and focuses very quickly even through foliage, which the canon prime sometimes struggles with.Zoom lock at any focal length is a nice feature. Build quality seems very good, it has a slightly soft texture finish to the outside on parts of the lens which seems to pick up mark's easily, not that it bothers me as my stuff ends up covered in mud and scratches anyway, but may be an issue if you're concerned about resale value.Other than that, it's an excellent lens, very flexible, easy to carry and performs very well for the price.

I bought specifically for a 5 week trip to Sth Africa, with approx 20 safaris. What a dream, used almost exclusively at 600mm and hand held. Superb quality. In my small group of 7 there was also the Sigma 150-600mm Sport and the Sigma 150-600mm C. We were intrigued to compare at the end of each day and asked the other members to decide which photos were "best" quality wise. Not once could they pick which lens was which. We were all in the same vehicle and the photo's were all hand held. What was noticible was the weight difference, the Sigma Sport half as heavy again, very telling after a whole day carrying it. Only real advantage is it's weather proofing. However the Tamron does have some weather proofing and was subjected to a fair amount of dust and rain showers. Considerably cheaper then the Sport and slightly cheaper than the Sigma C. 2 minor gripes the lens hood although deep is reletively flimsy and often difficult to attach, the Sigmas far superior. The autofocus M/A switch is easy to knock of it's setting as it lies directly under where you hold the lens. A bit of black tape solved the problem, but still irritating. I did not buy from Amazon and paid about £850, this is for the new G2 version. Incredible value, and a MUST for anyone going on Safari where you are limited to staying in the vehicle and it is restricted to staying on the roads (which is very common) no more chasing the animals off road.

I pondered over this for a while as I have the excellent 100-400 already. I just got this and had a little trip to a local country park - I had it with the 1.4 converter . I got some great shots of birds that would hiss and spit at me if I got closer . The magnification was so close I could see the teeth in the geese beaks so I’m glad I didn’t get too close ?. The auto Focus on my canon 6d mk 2 takes ages when the converter is on but I had a good deal on the lens with converter so it was worth getting even for now and then use . Without the converter the lens is great. A bit heavy and now I need a new tripod but that was expected .So a work out every time I go to shoot birds and wildlife and less chance of being bitten or spat at by angry geese - bonus . I’ll keep the tamron 100-400 for times when I don’t want to carry so much weight but this will probably take over otherwise as it’s great

I had the previous Tamron 150-600 lens for four years before buying this one, and was generally pleased with it. After a few outings with the new version, I'm pleased I took the plunge. It feels more soild, with better build quality. It's hardly any heavier than the old one, and I can walk around with it for a good while without any problems. The autofocus is excellent, and the images seem sharper overall than before, right across the zoom range.I tend to use it for aircraft photography mainly, and it is perfect on my full frame D750, or my crop sensor D500.I would heartily recommend this lens.

Superb focal range of 150-600, using with Nikon D3 and no in camera focal adjustment necessary. Producing sharp images at all focal lengths. Built like a tank and weathersealing is excellent, it has been rained on a few times and zero issues. The stabilisation is unreal, it seems to be magical. Acceptably sharp images even at 1/15 of a second in low light conditions. Sometimes hunts for focus when foliage is in the way between your subject. No wonder it is one of Morten Hilmer’s favourite lenses for wildlife. Over 90% of shots so far have been hand held the VC is that good. Highly recommended.

AF telephotos probably don't get much, if any, better than this at this price range. With the multiple focus range selector, focusing is pretty fast instead of it trying to focus across the entire range. It's very stable attached to a 90D on top of a MePhoto tripod, but with the multiple stabilisation options hand-held results are really good too in the right context, holding the lens via its shoe. I still need to give it a solid workout in the field (frankly I need a new camera bag first that's big enough to be able to take it out!). The package includes a soft cover and large lens hood.

I think the Sigma is on a par image wise, even with the sport Sigma, there's not much difference between the Sigma's, image quality wise. The Sigma Sport has better weatherproofing, but a rain cover solves that. It is also VERY heavy ! the cheaper Sigma does not have as good weatherproofing than the Tamron The tripod ring has a much longer base than the Sigma, much more stable it is also Arca swiss compatible. Same filter size as the cheaper Sigma so I can still use my 100mm filters

I like this lens very much because of the sharpness it gives for the money spent. It is not as sharp as $10000 canon lenses but almost as sharp. It is very hard to see the difference. Of course I do not like the aperture of 6.3, but if I use sunshine or a bit higher ISO it works perfect. The auto focus is silent and fast and hits its target pretty good for this amount of money.I am surprised over the image quality I got from it.

7.2.2020

It’s a great budget lens. I mainly shoot auto-sport, it requires quick AF, which this lens definitely has. Stabilisation is good, but not great if hand-held. Also low-light performance is poor, but that’s pretty normal for such aperture. Overall- I would highly recommend for users that are lucking for long lens, it’s a little bit “soapy” at 600mm but sharp as an eagle eye between 400-500mm.

This is an excellent lens, I am delighted with its performance hence I award it 5 stars , it is a heavy item though I expect that for the range that this lens covers, comes with a 5 year warranty too hence a perfect purchase for me.

I wanted a zoom lens at 150-600 mm and i have spend a lot of time shopping around.this lens has outstanding stabilisér is fast and the focus is stabil, lens is very heavy, but it dosen't matter because of the quality build

I took this to the weekend and produced some awesome photographs. It is on the heavy side but still managed to use it both with and without a tripod.Worth every penny spent a marvellous addition to my kit. My Nikon

Excellent. There are drawbacks but these are highlighted by other in reviews. If used with its companion 2x converter be aware auto focus does not work with most models.

14.9.2017

Vibration control is the best I've ever seen and coupled with crisp images, very fast autofocus, no visible aberrations (fringing) makes this lens the best possible buy.
