I have some expensive Canon and Sigma lenses. Unless you make your living from photography or are a serious hobbyist, you really won't mind or even notice the slight loss of performance of this lens compared to the L/Nikkor/Deluxe lenses (under normal lighting conditions).It's very light and has an impressive zoom range. It's small form factor makes it perfect for street photography or when you're traveling in other countries: people get very annoyed when you point a 2 Kg lens in their direction, and I've learned that the hard way!The optical image stabilization allows me to take very clear photos in low light conditions and with full zoom.If you have a good camera with 6400+ ISO, then this lens'

I traded in my 18-250mm lens for this, as I found that I used the 250mm focal length more often than the wide angle. I find this lens performs very similarly to the previous one, giving bright pleasing images. I've taken shots in a variety of circumstances including landscape, portrait and photographing fast moving aircraft. Every time I take it out I get some pleasing results. The biggest draw back is the fact you are limited to an aperture of 6.3 at the 300mm end, which somewhat limits your flexibility - but this is the same for most super zooms.It is never going to be as good as a fast prime lens at any given focal length, but with the right settings can take some very good shots.

I have numerous prime and f 2.8 zoom lenses for my Nikon APSc and full frame bodies. This wonderful 28 300 is a fantastic daytime walkabout lens. On f 8 this lens is just about as good as the primes on f 2.8 from 30mm to 250mm. For a day out and at ISO 2000 at f.8 between 30 and 250mm the results from pixel peeping are the same as my expensive bulky prime lenses. Not recommended for low light photography. Please check the MTF charts to see the recorded performance. AF is well fast enough for normal photography. VC is a great bonus. Thoroughly recommended.

This is a very nice piece of lens only problem is like the other reviews about you are limited to an aperture of 6.3 but all in all a good lens for the price.It saves you changing lenses but I do wish I would have seen the 18-270 before as I really would have bought that, so mine will be on sale soon (without a box) but sporting a Hoya Skylight for the £200 mark... anyone interested email me.

I needed a lens for my full-frame Canon that covered the range from a reasonable wide-angle to about 200mm. I was not looking particularly for a Tamron lens but the Canon option was approaching ten times the price. The images from this lens are to be used on web-sites so the quality can be compromised to a certain extent: it is a great little lens that is performing well.
