This lens is great in my opinion. Paired with the NEX 6 it makes for a versatile comparatively light weight but high quality lens and though its bigger than my primes its slightly shorter, though wider than my 55-210. I've not used the older non LE version, and in honestly having read reviews of it I was actually trying to find one of the older versions, but having tried the LE version in a shop I thought the slightly lower price and significantly lighter build would be a good trade off for what some people describe as "slightly sharper" images. But I was impressed with what I saw non the less.So what was important to me? Well compared to my 55-210 lens or my 16-50 lens this one trumps them both in quality and sharpness,as well as being able to cope with the full range of magnification pretty much of the two combined. I can't ever see myself using the before mentioned lenses again. Its not a fast lens, but autofocus gets there in good time and the quality is high and pretty sharp, I've had low light indoor shots as well as outdoor fast motion shots with this and I've been impressed with both. I'll still be using my prime lenses for the really high quality shots, but the versatility of this lens with very little bulk in honesty is just amazing. It turns the NEX-6 into a camera with the capability to take stunning photos in pretty much any situation without the hassle of changing lenses. I'll be using this as my main lens from now on I'm sure of it.As others have mentioned, the build quality is great, though the zoom itself is a little stiff you do get used to it... but then the older non LE version did creep, this one wont! The autofocus does make a little noise with, so if its movies your doing take that into consideration quiet scenes will no doubt pick that up. But for pure photography, this is great. If you have the 16-50 or 18-55 stock lens and thinking of just adding the 55-210 to extend your range, I suggest you save up and get one of these. Its worth the extra cash! Like I said, I can't see me ever using the other two again.

Bought this lens up here in Iceland for only 445GBP new (minus the tax) Having tried out the original Sony E 18-200mm, the first thing I noticed with the LE is that it is considerably less bulky than the original SEL18-200, being 12% lighter. Had read in other reviews that it isn't as good as the original for videos, but hey, it still performs more than adequately in that area.Images were surprisingly sharp at the long end compared to the SEL 18-55mm kit lens which was unreliable after 50mm. Been trying the LE today in the 150 - 200mm in overcast light outside and can only say it works well.Compared to my vintage Pentax Takumar 200mm this is so much more portable. The build says 'quality'and it is a pleasure to use. Five stars.Update Nov. 24th Just to confirm how well the lens is performing. Have taken some stunning long exposure (15-60s) shots of the northern lights/ aurora borealis in cold conditions with the lens mounted on a tripod. Even at the long end, with the lens stopped down, and capturing the moon with the aurorae I have been pleased with the results. Tried the lens at an indoor sporting event and the autofocus seemed fairly snappy as well, for a lens that could hardly be described as 'fast'.

Rather slow to focus compared to the lenses I'm used to on my DSLR but acceptable once you get used to it; though pre-focussing definitely helps. This is a nice compact walk around lens though it's not great in low light on my NEX-6. But during the daytime for general scenes, landscape and snapshots it's fine. Too slow for sports and wildlife - focussing, light gathering and general handling/ response let you down. It's reasonably sharp, though it requires care at the long end, in spite of the OSS, and you need to stop down to at least f8 for best results. This lens is s reasonable companion for my old NEX-6 but if you've got a higher resolution CSC with a better sensor I would look elsewhere.Similarly, if you need sharp images, work low-light or shoot fast action, get a couple of better quality zooms with less zoom range or wide aperture primes if you can afford it.

Taken great shots with this puppy. Went with this (over the SEL18200, "non-LE" model), because it's a little lighter, and specifically designed for still cameras. The SEL18200 came from a video camera lineage. My only small gripe, is that it's not user up-gradable to Hybrid-AF. My lens came with firmware V1, and to get the HybridAF working (which you want, if you have a Nex5R or newer) you need to send it to Sony Service to get upgraded to lens firmware v2. This was a hassle I didn't really need. Since getting upgraded however, it's a fantastic bit of kit and very pleased with it.I suspect mine was V1 firmware, as it was a Amazon marketplace purchase, and new items will be already V2,if you are buying from the marketplace, if you are concerned, ask the seller. The lens firmware can be checked when connected to a camera in the Version page in the camera settings.

just got this lens. love it .have noticed there are some reviews saying this lens is no where near as good as the original sony 18/200 lens . I love this lens and have some really great photos. I am not an expert photographer but love the photos . I have a 55 to 200 mm lens and 18/55 lens and will now use my new 18/200 lens instead. I cannot see any difference between the 18/200 lens and my 55/200 sony lens when at max range.would definitely recommend this lens I have not taken any videos -but I mainly use my camera for still photos. it does feel quite heavy but I am sure I will get used to it. hope this helps anyone making a decision - I was on fence about buying the original 18/200 lens -butwas put off by weight and size-as the 18/200 sony LE feels heavy enough !

Fit and forget lens that covers massive 18-200 focal range. Used it for safari with the 2 x digital doubler on my Sony Alpha 6000 APSC camera which gave me the equivalent to 600mm in 35mm values in a compact form factor. Very sharp photos, helped by abundance of light in Africa. Not too heavy and balances nicely when at wide end. Advantage of single lens whilst on holiday is that I was not constantly swapping lenses and getting dust on the sensor. Broke mine afters a few years of heavy use and abuse and purchased a replacement straight away. Have a bag full of lenses which are left at home.

Do it all lens that goes from 18mm to 200mm on an Amount camera or 27mm to 300mm as a full frame equivalent. Great travel lens that means you are not taking your lens on and off every 5 mins letting dust and muck into your camera each time. Bright enough for sunny locations and general outdoors photography. Not so great in low light at the long end but F3.5 at iso 800 gives reasonable exposure time and is still sharp. This is the newer, lighter version that has the "LE" at the end of the name, the original one is a bit heavier and more suited to video. Great lens, just buy one!

A good buy for my now 5 year old Nex-7. Easier than changing lenses with the twin lens kit and you will get less dust on the sensor. You won't be able to use the pop-up flash if you zoom in at all. The lens block the light at the bottom of the frame. Quality wise it seems very good and it is a great travel lens.

22.2.2014

Great focal length range but slow to focus and distortion at wide end can be a bit severe. It's a very expensive lens so I was expecting good quality but so far it's a bit of a disappointment.

27.8.2013

Met my expectations. The zoom is a little stiff but this does have the advantage it does not move when not in use; unlike the Tamron 18-270mm. The zoom lock is not needed.

18.11.2017

Among many other lens I usually use this, because this is suitable for almost all situation. So I like it. Of course for special purposes I use the special lenses.

A very nice lens for every day and for every purpose! With my NEX 6 it is perfect. You have the versility and the quality that you need!

12.11.2019

Great image stabilisation. Image pretty sharp, consistent with cost of lens. Would recommend.

7.12.2019

Really wonderful lens, it’s the only one I took travelling and the only one I needed!
