I needed a Jab (pad?) saw to help me fit a loft hatch/ladder at my in laws' house. As usual I read the reviews and decided the Fatmax saw fitted the bill. The saw arrived in a retail hanging pack with the blade protected under a clear plastic cover and with a cable tie holding the handle onto the thick card (you'll need a pair of cutters to get this off). The saw blade folds into the handle when you press the big red button so it can be safely put into your tool box or a trouser pocket. When you open the blade there is a cut-out in the back of the blade so you can easily get it out of the handle. The blade locks in three different positions but I only needed the fully open one for the task in hand. The triple cut teeth cut on both the push and the pull stroke and rapidly eat through plasterboard.I'd done the same job a couple of years ago in my Victorian era house and I'm not sure that I'd have wanted to use this kind of saw on a lath and plaster ceiling but it made this latest job relatively easy.

I bought this product to take a section out of a piece of a small joist and, whereas it mostly succeeded, the excessive flex in the blade made the job harder than it needed to be. Having said that the blade cut well and would probably be ideal for smaller cutting jobs. The handle was comfortable in the hand and easy to grip and stow away in my tool box for future use.Like most people I buy Stanley because they use good quality materials and you know what you are going to get. I personally would rather pay a bit extra and get quality than scrimp a few pennies and get something that you end up ditching after a couple of uses. I can see that this Jab Saw will be around for a while, which is why I bought it.

I've bought various cheap jab saws over the years. They've all been OK-to-poor. Usually they're not as sharp, or if they are they go blunt easily, or the blade bends waaay to much when you're trying to use it.This saw is superb. Super sharp, double bladed so it cuts well. Very sturdy grip and blade. Locks into multiple positions.Had to enlarge a few downlight holes by hand and used this - it made it so easy, even compared to all the other jab saws I've had. Amazing. Seriously good piece of kit.Buy it now and have it on-hand in case you need it.

Brilliant tool!!really well made as you would expect from stanley! The fold away idea is brilliant and no more catching your hand on a blade in the tool box!!!!cuts into plasterboard with ease and as an electrician i find this ideal for cutting in boxes for electrical accessories..

Maybe I just like the idea of all my tools folding, but this is another item I bought just because it folds. I've used it a couple of times and it's comfortable to fold, rips through stuff just like it should and makes difficult custs easy.It folds though. Did I mention that?

Great little saw that is very sharp. Locks both in straight and 90 degree angled positions, as well as the locked position. Used it for cutting off a tree branch and worked well on solid hard wood. Can imagine it works even better on gypsum panels.

Goes through plasterboard like butter and cuts straight (very little flex). Folding blade means it stays nice and sharp whilst obviously being compact. Grip is comfy, and has held up very well to almost a year of use so far.

It's a Stanley FatMax tool. You know it's going to be good! This sits in my bag, not poking holes in the sides of it and it goes through plasterboard like a champ! Sturdy locking mechanism, comfortable to use. Like it.

This has to be the best tool I've bought in a long time. It's tough, sharp, comfortable to hold and easy to use. Cut through a 2 inch diameter branch like slicing butter, no strength needed the saw did all the work.

Very impressed by the quality and the lock in multi-psosition blade to handle is great. It makes light work cutting out dry lining boards. "A hot knife through butter". The handle also gives you a very comfy grip.

Sharp pad saw, and the folding mechanism saves your bag, but the end is fairly sharp on your hands if you want to knock the bottom into harder board, and the joint could possibly be an issue after some wear.

Solid and good quality. Comfortable handle and good strong/shard blade. Folds up - taking less space, protecting the blade and stops damage to anything or hurting yourself accidentally.

This has to be a 'tool-box' must have for any builder. Cuts the plaster just perfectly. After plenty us it's still sharp. This tool can cut a great rectangle/square for a socket, etc

Excellent saw which I use on an allotment. Only thing I wish was it was a little longer but great ideal to have it to fold so take last space plus ins safety feature
