The FatMax 5-in-1 hacksaw is a full-size hacksaw with a few upgrades. It can operate as a normal hacksaw, with the blade straight. Sliding open the catch on the bottom of the hacksaw handle exposes the tensioning nut, allowing you to change the tension in the blade. The blade can be removed and used at a 45-degree angle, useful for making cuts close to walls or other obstructions. This is where the similarities to standard hacksaws end, and the FatMax hacksaw brings in some of its own innovations. Once you have removed the hacksaw blade, the rubbery corner of the hacksaw can be pulled away. You will find a drywall blade stored in the top of the hacksaw with a retaining screw.Removing this screw allows you to combine the drywall blade and the part of the hacksaw you just pulled away to create a drywall saw.You can also take the hacksaw blade and feed it through where the drywall blade was held. This can be good for working in tight spaces, where you may not have enough space to get the hacksaw above of below the workpiece to cut it.And finally, you can position the hacksaw blade diagonally, from the base of the handle to the rubber corner (with the rubber corner itself removed). This doesn't cost much more than a good 'normal' hacksaw. Bahco do a high quality hacksaw, with comfortable grips like the FatMax, for about £16. For a little more cash, you can get these extra functions all in one package.Something you might worry about when looking at this is how stable the saw is while cutting. It's a hacksaw that splits into two pieces, and when stored under low blade tension, the part that makes the drywall saw handle is a bit loose. However, when the blade is fully tensioned for cutting, the whole frame is completely solid. Not sure if it was DeWalt or Stanley that invented this design, because DeWalt sells what looks like the exact same saw in the States. I think FatMax is what Stanley Black and Decker brands DeWalt hand tools outside of the states.I think this is a fantastic bit of kit at a reasonable price. Buying all of these saws separately, at good quality, will cost more than one of these. The best thing about it, is that it does all of these jobs without sacrificing quality. It's comfortable to use and very innovative. I'd recommend it as a buy to anyone.

Overall pretty pleased with the product with some non-deal-breaker niggles. Comes with 2 blade types and the multi-functional transformer like hacksaw is coming in mighty handy. However, there were no instructions on how to break it down (although mostly self-explanatory to all but a small child) and I found that when I tried to the black foregrip part on it's own in combination with the short jabsaw blade, the blade couldn't go far enough into the handle for the thumb-screw to engage the pre-drilled hole to hold it securely. What this means is that I'd either have to doctor every blade in future with a dremel, or small file, to fit in to this poor-fitting receptacle in the handle,or I'd have to somehow doctor the handle itself. To be honest, I'd rather just use a separate pocket jabsaw and keep this a large scale hacksaw in 4 of the 5 modes it's capable of.It's also pretty large and heavy which depending on your most common use cases will either be reassuring or a bit of a pain. Since I will mainly use it for house-hold DIY and so fitting it into, or carrying it in, my day-to-day carry toolbox will not be an issue for me. For a daily professional I reckon you could probably buy a much small variant that would do your use cases just fine or leave this one in your van :-)

I think this saw is brilliant. I bought my first one from Screwfix for a few jobs around the house I needed to do, however I was so please with it I bought a second one off of Amazon, because it was cheaper, yo use at work.Robust saw and with its ability to be easily changed into different shapes and sizes it is perfect for getting into all kinds of different places. It also comes with a "scabbard" like saw for cutting/pruning wood. though I wouldn't recommend using it for neat cuts. More cutting through bits of branch, quickly cutting timber etc.The only thing I cannot comment on is the durability of the blade,it have used it a few times but only chopping off bolts or through pipe with out any problem and was excellent at cutting some plastic guttering for the shed.Well worth the money, don't waste your time with cheaper saws. this is a great tool.Would buy again, would recommend

A very robust well engineered tool that is a must for any toolbox and far surpass's the flimsy counterpart the junior hacksaw any day. For me personally it is solid and is the terminator of all hacksaws but a wee it on the heavy side as it is. However it does become more manageable and certainly lighter in one of it's other configurations which provides an endless use for this tool. An added bonus is the blade storage which mean you can store it anywhere without loosing the spares or damaging the blade you are using. The grip is very comfortable so I would imagine prolonged use would not be an issue and it will protect you hands against sore spots.Don't forget Stanley and Dewalt are two of the same company,so you know in every tool there is a great deal of thought, product design and rigorous testing to make sure these tools last and perform to a high standard.

Really nicely made and finished, the ergonomics are excellent. The jab saw is a nice touch as is the onboard blade storage and 45 degree cut capability. All these extra features come at the expense of weight! In some instances, the extra weight will be a help, but if you are doing a lot of cuts at an awkward angle or overhead, this hacksaw will soon become tiring to useThe blade change, on paper is very good, but in practice, it can be insanely fiddly to get the blades onto the lugs, the red bracket that has the rear lugs on, moves about when trying to get the blade on, so it's almost a 3 handed job. Maybe this needs practice?Glad I bought it and I will use it a lot,but I'm also going to buy a lighter one for those other jobs!

Excellent addition to the toolbox! Very sturdy build, not the lightest of tools, but it's not too heavy either. Some people complain about the level of instructions that come with the Stanley tools but they are pretty straight forward with a small bit of thought, extra blad stored in the top part of the tool! A bit more expensive than the other options available, but this has multiple options for it since it is the 5-in-1. Highly recommended to add to your toolbox!

happy overall - Sturdy and weighty workmanship, good functionality, the only reason I have given 4 stars rather than the full 'shabang' is that the blade tensioning could be improved. I use quality blades and tighten yet the blades still manage to twist slightly. Don't let this put you off though.Used as an electrician in an industrial setting.

This is a very sturdy product, I've had and used a few hack saws in my time but this is the chunkiest I've ever seen but this means the grip (rubber coated) is comfy and the second rubber grip at the other end makes 2 hand use much easier. Not tried it as a jab saw yet but comes with the blade which stores discretely in the top of the saw

Initial impressions: a solid (and therefore quite heavy) very well made hacksaw. Tested in hacksaw mode and works fine - remember the adage to let the saw (and its weight) do the work, You will need to increase the blade tension (simple knurled screw) adjustment before use. Comfortable handle (especially for the larger hand).

This saw is built like a brick privy. It's strong and has several different ways of being used, though these are poorly documented. It's going to outlive me, that's for sure. But it is very heavy for extended use. It is a quality product, though and you will probably only need to buy one of these to last a lifetime!

I wish there were more instructions to convert the multiple uses; I've still not figured it out completely, but I bought for use as a hacksaw and it's worked perfectly for that. Very heavy-duty as you'd expect from Stanley, the handle's comfortable enough for long use and the blade included is high quality.

This is a robust hacksaw, perhaps a little heavy for some but certainly sturdy and comfortable to use. Replacing saw blades is simple as easily achieved. The only downside is its a bot chunky and not great for sawing close to a vertical surface. Aside from that, its a great hacksaw.

As much as I love this hacksaw due to its weight making a substantial contact with the material. I personally use this whilst working at height and have found it heavy and bulky. I'm currently using it stripped down and diagonal which is perfect for me

Great peice of kit and has all the features I needed. Saves having to carry 3 saws. Very good quality (so far).Arrived sooner than expected and can't fault the product or the transaction. I would highly recommend this.

I have about four hacksaws of different sizes and manufacturer, but not one of them is as good as this Stanley example. Very nice to use, incredibly versatile, and most importantly of all, effective. Highly recommended.
