I've been using the 20 colour pack versions of these pens for years in my work as an illustrator and animator, as well as almost identical sets from Staedtler (triplus colour). Both companies have good colours in this range. The triplus pens feel a bit nicer in the hand.I wanted more colours so went for this Stabilo 40 pen set in metal box, as Staedtler don't seem to make more than the 20 colours. The range of shades is really good and i liked the addition of a few paler colours (skin tone, pale blues and greys e.g. for shading in clouds or glass or snow etc.).I deducted a star because the pens are not as nicely finished as the Staedtler ones, having plastic flakes still attached on some from the moulding process, which makes them look a bit cheap, despite the quality of the tips and the ink being perfectly good. Also, the metal box has two plastic inserts, which feel a bit more flimsy and brittle than I'd like. The bottom layer moulding has half the number of pens as the top, me thinks because they use the same size box as for the 60 pen set, just with a different insert. Makes for a lot of air to store. While this may make sense to them economically, it really bugs me. I'd have much preferred a shorter box with 20 pens on each level, which would have made it much more convenient to store or take with. My triplus 20 colour set is in a neat strong plastic case. Two of those on top of each other come to a size of 21cm x 17cm x 3cm high (8.25 x 6.5 x 1 inch). This set is 32cm x 19cm x 2.2cm (12.75 x 7.5 x 1 inch) for the same number of pens. For a recommended retail price of over £50 (I payed just over £20 as on sale) I'd have hoped for a bit more efficiency/neatness.Still recommended though! Do grab one in the sale. Despite the above these are still far superior to most other felt tip pens because of the durable tips, great ink and resistance to drying out.Stabilo, please offer these in a more everyday-artist-friendly packaging as an alternative to this shiny but in practice inconvenient look-how-big-a-set-of-pens-I-got-boast-box. Or at least a smaller tin. Your pens deserve it. They are good enough for everyday use and should not be reduced to the magpie bait corner of the stationery/art shop.Staedtler, please add some more colours to your range. :)

Lovely set of 40 different colours. Thank you to the other reviewer that pointed out the box of 50 doesn't actually have more colours; just four colour repeats plus 6 highlighter colours, so I agree that this is the best Stabilo 68 option available. I have the Staedtler Triplus 1.0mm nibbed pens too and am pleased to have them both, but if you want to just get one 1.0mm set I would get this one.For anyone interested these are the colours you get, with their Stabilo reference number, and a colour name/shade I have made up. I have also indicated where colours are also available in the finer 0.4mm Stabilo 88 range.Happy colouring!Stabilo 88 (0.4m)24 Lemon Yellow44 Gold Yellow Yes26 Apricot Yes89 Dark Tan Yes88 Light Tan54 Light Orange Yes30 Dark Orange40 Orange Red Yes48 Dark Red50 Scarlet Yes19 Plum38 Light Brown75 Medium Brown45 Dark Brown Yes65 Green Brown16 Pale Green43 Green Yes33 Lime Green Yes36 Bright Green Yes63 Dark Green Yes13 Light Turquoise Yes53 Green Turquoise Yes51 Turquoise Yes31 Bright Turquoise No, but 32 very similar!57 Light Blue Yes11 Pale Blue41 Bright Blue Yes32 Navy Blue22 Dark Blue/Grey Yes55 Purple Yes56 Bright Pink Yes58 Fuschia Yes11 Pink29 Soft Pink50 Scarlet94 Light Grey Yes95 Medium/Light Grey96 Medium Grey Yes97 Dark Grey46 Black Yes

I really enjoy adult colouring books and have quite a big collection of them.I have to say at first it was a real struggle to find something I enjoyed colouring with. I started off with pencils but I really dislike the way they feel on the paper and how hard you have to press to get a decent bit of colour out of it. I moved on to a pack of 20 Staedtler pens but found that their colour range wasn't broad enough for what I desired. So then I came across these online on offer for £29 and thought although it was a lot of money to pay for pens that I would take the risk. I ordered and waited (rather impatiently) for them to arrive. They arrived a few days later and I took straight to testing them out.The colour range is fantastic and the pens are so bright. I get so much enjoyment out of using them. Every stroke of the pen leaves behind a vivid splash of colour. The tin they come in is also very nice and could easily hold extra pens if you want to keep them all in one place. Any worries I had about the money I paid disappeared instantly.Overall I have had these pens for a few months now and they show no signs of drying up. I colour regularly for a few hours at a time so you definitely get your money's worth. A great buy for any colouring fan!

Just wanted to add a comment that this is ALL the colours available in this Pen 68 range. There aren't any other ones you can get by mixing sets available on Amazon unless you are after the 6 highlighter colours. I would therefore agree that this is the best set available. These pens feel great and work well, allowing a high degree of precision with your colouring. I've not really got any complaints! Here are the colours with their numbers and proper names:11 Ice Blue13 Ice Green16 Light Emerald17 Jeliotrope19 Purple22 Prussian Blue24 Lemon Yellow26 Light Flesh-Tint29 Pink30 Pale Vermillion31 Light Blue32 Ultramarine33 Light Green36 Green38 Sanguine40 Light Red41 Dark Blue43 Leaf Green44 Yellow45Brown46 Black48 Carmine50 Dark Red51 Turquoise Blue53 Turquoise Green54 Orange55 Violet56 Rose57 Azure58 Lilac63 Earth Green65 Umbar75 Sienna88 Light Ochre89 Dark Ochre94 Light Cold Grey95 Medium Cold Grey96 Dark Grey97 Deep Cold Grey98 Paynes GrayThe six not included are:24 - Fluorescent Yellow31 - Fluorescent Blue33 - Fluorescent Green40 - Fluorescent Red54 - Fluorescent Orange56 - Fluorescent Pink

Stabilo are my favourite brand of coloured fineliners. Stabilo have the most extensive colour palette and most colours are available in both the 68 (0.3mm)and 88 (1mm) point range. This selection of pens are the slightly thicker nibs, making them perfect for colouring larger areas and are great for the popular adult colouring books. The colour selection within this box are (as taken from a previous reviewer's review) 4 shades of grey, 5 shades of Browns, 7 shades of greens, 5 shades of blue, 3 shades of purple, 5 shades of pink, 3 shades of red, 3 shades of orange and 2 shades of yellow plus 6 neon colours which means that this one box gives a great colour palette for many projects. The pens are despatched in a great metal tin and when opened a beautiful rainbow is contained. The tin is perfect storage and is thin enough for easy storage in a drawer or on shelves etc.I love the Stabilo products, the ink is always vibrant and long lasting, I have never had any problems with ink drying up or leaking. i also like the pen design, with its multi sided design pens do not role off tables etc.Great for students, children or adult colourists.

I have many different brands of colouring pens and these are my favourite. The price seems to be a bit 'ouch' when you view the listing, and I hesitated on the 'add to basket' button as a result. However, I took the plunge and I am so glad I did. The colours are so vibrant and beautiful and the nibs are a fantastic quality, resulting in nice, smooth colouring. I would highly recommend these pens. These are definitely my favourite out of all the brands that I've tried. One pen lost the lid well over a month ago, and yet it's still going strong - I use these on a daily basis (I have health issues and am unable to work as a result, so I need something to fill my days and when my doctor suggested 'art therapy'as a way to pass time and get myself out of my own head, I thought, well, why not?) I bought these pens back in April, 2015. It's now August, 2015, and they're still going strong - not even a hint that any of them might be losing their ink (and sometimes I spend the whole day colouring, just to pass time). I simply adore these pens. If you like colouring in, or are just getting into it, then you will want to buy these pens.

I already own a set of these pens for my own use and this set was purchased as a birthday present for my granddaughter, who likes to use my pens every time she comes to visit. I like these pens as they have the biggest range of colours you can buy in this type of pen. Unfortunately there are quite a lot of dark colours, but I really like the range of yellows/oranges/reds which are numerous. I use my set in conjunction with sets of other makes to get the biggest colour range possible. They are very good quality and last a long time, even if you are a fanatical colourist like myself. The tin is also very useful to keep the pens sorted in colour order for easy access. This set contains all of the 40 colours that Stabilo produce.Don't be fooled by the tin of 50 - this contains the 40 colours plus 4 repeats and 6 highlighters, so unless you particularly want the highlighters there's no point in it.

Presented in a metal tin, these fibre tip pens give a stylish impression right off the bat. The pens in a good selection of colours, have a decent texture and shape when held, and don't feel fragile to work with. The tip size of the pens is fine to medium, better for outlines than colouring (but only because it would take a long time to cover a moderate area). The drying time of the water-based ink is fast, with strong coverage and wonderful bold colours. While the colours do not blend as such, you can overlay them to create further shades. This also counts with the same shade - overlaying a colour onto a dried layer of the same shade intensifies the boldness of that colour.I cannot really find anything bad to say about these pens, bar the fact that the size of the nib would not be beneficial for colouring without it taking a long time to do so.

I wanted to write a glowing review immediately after the first stroke I made with one of these pens, however having been caught out by seemingly-amazing pens in the past I decided to use them for a little while before making up my mind. I needn't have waited. These pens are absolutely amazing - intensely-pigmented colours, light and easy to hold, ink that flows freely enough to make colouring a pleasure yet not so freely as to make fine details challenging. Just fantastic. The only disappointment is that there aren't more colours available - if Stabilo ever markets a larger set than the 50 I will be first in the queue! There are still more than enough shades to create a wide variety of colour schemes. While they can't be described as budget pens, at this level of quality you really do get what you pay for. Very highly recommended.

Very stylish and good quality set of standard nib felt tip pens. Much easier and stylish to store than wobbly plastic packets but also eye wateringly more expensive. At just over £15 this works out at about a £1 per pen for the 15 included in the set which is not cheap. The colour quality is good but a few of the pens did seem to dry out just as fast as very cheap supermarket kids pack ones although none were dry on opening the lid for first usage. My older daughter who draws loves these. They match nicely with her tins of Cumberland pencils and Caran D'Ache crayons and Newton Inks and look neat in her basket. I don't think they would be worth the expense for young children. We are trying to see if we can buy single replacements for pens in the set like you can do with pencils from specialist art shops.

Bought these with some of my birthday money, as I'm creative and always doing something with colours! The tin is lightweight and about the same size as a normal computer's keyboard (rectangular). Inside there are two layers; one in a black plastic tray and the second underneath in another. There are 25 of the most bright, vivid colours on the top layer and (15) more dull colours such as greys and browns and deep green and blue on the bottom layer. About 6 of the pens are almost highlighter shades, which are bright and cheerful.40 is definitely the best tin size, in my opinion. My friends has a tin of 30, but I much prefer mine! There is a great variety of colour! The pens themselves have quite fine tips which are perfect for detail and brilliant for larger areas too.Amazing buy - don't miss out!

A selection of 15 coloured felt tips in a metal box. There is a good selection of colours in this box of 15 (there are 46 colours available in this range and 4 neon colours) and the box is ideal for storage. The pen nibs are robust and do not have a tendency to bend unlike some cheaper brands. Another plus point is that the ink doesn’t smell. It takes over 24 hours for them to dry out if the cap is left off. They are quality felt pens though at this moment in time the full range of 50 pens including the neon colours is just a little over double this price where you only get 15 so it might be worth considering going for the whole set.Makes an excellent change from colouring pencils and they are fine enough and much more vibrant, ideal for Mindfulness colouring books.

This is a nice set of coloured fibre-tip pens from Stabilo, one of the big names in graphic materials.I expect they are generally aimed at the colouring book market, but from an artist`s point of view the 15 pens in the box provide a good range of colours; water-based, they are soluble to an extent so they can be used with watercolour and are very useful for mixed media. They are well pigmented, though there is nothing to identify the individual colours and no information on lightfastness; they are fine for general sketchbook work, layout for computer scanning or preparatory work, but without assurances on permanence I wouldn't use them for finished artwork.A very acceptable set of pens I'mhappy to use with other markers and media for sketching and general artwork.

These worked really nicely on Jeremy Mariez' Star Wars book; it's also a great book, with the exception that the pages are double-sided, so alcohol-based markers will bleed through. I bet the Stabilo 68s will also be appropriate for this book. The nice thing about them is that you can buy packs of individual colours if a colour in the main tin runs out. I'm not sure if Amazon carries all of the replacement colours, but so far I haven't been disappointed. I really recommend getting the pack of 50, rather than smaller packs, for the different shades. I'm also looking at water-based Tombow markers for flesh tones and greyscale, which is something that this pack could do with having.

The pens are really nice quality but I wish they did not include duplicates (there are 2 each of black, a red, a blue and a green) and I wish that there were more paler shades rather than the very dark blue, dark green, etc (these come out as almost black). I would also have preferred alternatives to neons. When you use the pens it seems that they are going to leave visible stroke marks, but for the most part they dry to a nice flat finish (I have had to apply a second layer with some colours). Some of the pens are beautifully smooth, others less so, but they do seem to become a little smoother with use.I do really like these pens, but now want some promarkers as well!
