I can't begin to say how impressed I am with these pencils. I never knew such coloured pencils existed. I'm so used to cheap naff pencils, generally in floppy plastic cases so that they all move around and fall out easily. When I read the reviews of these, I was sold, and hoped I wouldn't be disappointed. Well, they have exceeded expectations. What a fantastic design of the case (and why on earth has it taken me until I'm 30 to see a company use such simple but effective initiative?). It beats even pencil tins, because once opened, the flap opens up to become a stand. This makes the pencils readily available, no more scrambling around trying to find the right colour, and when closed, the case closes securely - something that tins still don't provide. The pencils are soft and beautifully true to the colour on the coating. Very vibrant. They colour in very smoothly and easily, and also evenly. My experience of coloured pencils has always been scratchy colouring-in straight after sharpening, ending with shiny, blunt and hard going colouring as the pencil wore down. Not so with these, no matter if they're sharp or on the blunt side, they still colour effortlessly. I assume it's the soft lead that enables this. I always associated pencils with hard work, but these are a dream to work with. I was a little sceptical over the triangular shape; I thought it might be a tad painful over prolonged periods, but they're very comfortable to use. As you can see, I'm in raptures over these. The colours available are great, so glad I went for the 24 set and not the 12. The only little niggles I have are these: there is no light shade of pink, which may or may not be a bit problematic if you want to colour white people. There is a tanned kind of colour that might suffice. Not a problem for me as I'm not using them as children might, but using them for work. That said, the range of each colour is very good.I can't comment on whether they break or not as I haven't put them through their paces in terms of travel... though they got to me through the post and none of them are broken. As the pencils get worn down and shorter, I wonder if they will rattle around in the compartment a bit. I hope then that the anti-break technology will be proven at this point!I have sharpened one straight out of the box. The triangular shape made my (round) pencil sharpener leave little indentations on the coating. I notice that they've arrived from factory having been sharpened on each side of the triangle. I don't have the time or patience to sharpen these with a knife, so I will settle with the indentations. A small price to pay for such quality pencils. Staedtler have come up trumps.

Everything in life can be ranked from best to worst and these pencils are the best I have ever used. Although I'm not a drawing aficionado, I have used pencils before and they were normally the school's and would break whenever sharpened too vigorously, would never hold a point and the colours were dull and washed out. These pencils in a death match battle would win every time - they are strong, resilient and best of all vibrant colours that don't come out waxy. However my few small quibble is that some of the colours provided have almost duplicates. For example the darker green pencil has another pencil that is ever so slightly different. To the point where I would get confused and spend 10 mins drawing lines with them comparing in different lights to see which pencil I had initially used. The same could be said for the 2 light blues. I could have done with more purples (there is only a berry purple that's more pinkish). Mixing the colours had poor results for me, but then that has always happened whenever I have tried to get creative with pencils (even the blending pencils) so I had to make do without my favourite colour which is a shame. A burning question in my mind however is why include a white pencil? Even when drawing on darker paper it still looks so rubbish, and it also doesn't blend well so you can't even lighten up an existing shade.

These Staedtler pencils are some of the best colouring pencils I have ever used. As well as having a wonderfully shaped pencil (triangular) which feels natural and comfortable to hold, the lead is also exceptionally soft, leading to beautiful colour on the page, and with no need to press down too hard and ruin the paper. They sharpen easily, and I've only ever had one or two pencils break in the sharpener, which is a huge difference from "every other pencil breaking off in the sharpener", let me tell you. (Always the same colours: teal and red. Not sure what I did to displease the gods of those colours, but...)They're soft to the touch, and are an absolute treat to use. Unfortunately, because of the soft lead, it also means they tend to get used a lot faster, so be prepared to pay for another set within the year if you're colouring a lot of pages with them. I've had mine since May, and I'm already halfway through the pack, and I've coloured maybe ten (hardcore) pages, and another twenty less difficult ones. It depends, obviously, on how sharp you like to keep your tip for details, etc, but yes. Be prepared for the pencils to diminish quite quickly. It's absolutely worth it, though, as the colour is, as I've said, beautiful, and easy-to-apply.

coooooooooooooooooooooooooooool!!!!I am 11 and these are an inportant assential for school. The first time I bought these they wre from TESCOS (12 pack) and were the same price at amazon (6.53)!Wow who knew you could get them at that price exept amazon astonishing! But then came the love in my life! STAEDLER ERGOSOFT (24 PACK)! They are amazing and they have a wight rubery coating to protect the pencils. It is really anoing when my school pencils brake and I have to use a cheap sharpaner and it cuts my pencil. So with these you get a wide colour variaty of pencils that also work the same as artist pencils. people keep saying that they cannot be used as artist pencils and that you can't use light strokes but I think you need a wake up call!Eather you have been using the pencil roughly or you want high standards that your never going to get. There is nothing wrong with these exept that I wish there was a trianular sharpaner because with a normal one the pencil goes round but they are actualy triangular for little hands and both adults to handle. So it ruins the shape of it and makes it look terrible. If your looking for a gift to anyone then look no ferther tese are amazing as you have read! Definatly recomend.

I have 2 children who love to colour in, both at home and in school (where pencils are only allowed) but I have wasted more time and money on trying to get colouring pencils which did not break everytime pressure was put on them and a nightmare to sharpen. Believe me I have tried them all from ELC to Crayola to proper artist pencils. However, last September I came across the Staedtler range in my local Stationery Store. They were expensive, but the colours were beautiful and they came in a really handy case. Since I had tried every other brand, I bought them. That was my turning point! They really do what they promise. My kids scribble all day and as for dropping them - that's power for the course. However, the leads never seem to break and when they do wear down - my heart is no longer in my mouth - they sharpen to a lovely point for precise work.Since they were so expensive I checked on-line and found them for half the price, so I am delighted. It turns out that buying them this way means they are no more expensive than the other high street brands. Perfect. Next year my wee ones move on in School and are allowed colouring pens - there is no doubt that Staedtler will be my first choice to try!

They're expensive yes, but worth the money. I'm on a phase of colouring in adult colouring books and these are better than the standard ordinary pencils I bought from W H Smiths. They are really comfortable to hold and feel almost rubberised in your hand, and warm to touch. At this price I felt it necessary to also buy the Staedtler sharpener because it sharpens the pencil at a more oblique angle therefore wasting less of the inner lead. They layer well, don't smudge easily and importantly the lead never seems to crack or split. With a newly sharpened tip, I can work in the smallest of gaps and they aid much more accurate finer work. For colouring in, I won't be going back to 'ordinary'pencils and I notice that they don't need sharpening as often as the cheaper types so I feel they are cost effective depending on what your requirements are. I've added a photo or two to show the type of work you can do, but I'm not yet fully proficient or skilled. The case that they come in is very useful too, and obviously a lot of effort has been put into the overall design and implementation of these pencils. Top marks!

I ordered these because I want to try layering techniques but didn't want to fork out for full on artist quality pencils, of which there is a bewildering array of choice, in case I was rubbish!Although these are marketed for schools they are excellent quality. Soft enough to layer and blend but hard enough for detail. I like the fact that they have the protective layer as soft pencils are a pain when the leads constantly break. The easy select plastic holder/case is brilliant, stores your pencils safely and neatly. Not a huge choice of colours if you want to do coloured pencil seriously but a good way to start.Great for kids, students, office use and budding artists. In my art class pictures done using these pencils stood out over much more expensive pencils.I would like to see some colourfast ratings for these and more colours but otherwise definitely recommend - less than half the high street price. Update: leads are only 2mm wide so you don't get a lot for your money but hard enough to wear well.

Incredible pencils for the price, I had read the reviews but am still astonished how good these are. They are softer than I expected and the colour pay off is amazing especially compared with the Staedtler Noris colour hexagonal I've been using lately, which are very hard pencils. With the Noris you need to apply a lot of pressure and the shades are still quite pale but these Ergosoft give rich colour without the need to work hard, they have a really nice feel. I'm astounded by how soft they are and how beautiful the effect is. The selection in the 24 pack is pretty good though for me personally another brown or rust would have been more useful than the white or second yellow. The only drawback is that they are perhaps not as precise for tiny detail compared to the harder pencils but the fact that the ergo soft are far more blendable makes up for that and with both sets I think I have a good combination. It is unsurprising that Staedtler seem to be the pencil of choice for so many colouring book addicts.

Having been disappointed by adult colouring books and the way fibre tips often transfer through the pages I tried to find decent vivid pencils for a good price. I opted for Derwent academy and these Staedtler ergo soft pencils. These far outshine the Derwent pencils even though the colour selection is wider in the Derwent pack I purchased. I have had no issues with the core breaking so far, and the lead can be sharpened to a fine point for detailed work. If using for freehand art work they cope well with cross hatching and other forms of shading and colour/texture control and the depth of colour can be laid down very vividly without creating too much of a 'sheen'(although not totally without a slight satin effect when put down fairly thickly). The colours can be blurred and mixed to a certain extent so give a decent added range of colours if the exact one isn't in the pack. The colour goes down evenly and smoothly giving a lovely finish. I will be ordering again.

These are our favourite pencils! Used by myself, my two daughters and occasionally my son, these type of pencils are a firm favourite and are lovely to colour with. They really are soft on the paper so you can be gentle and get some good effects. The triangular shape is perfect - especially for one of my daughters who uses a triangular grip on her normal lead pencils so can hold these properly without difficulty. We often get packs of these pencils for birthday party presents etc and they are well received too. I love how the box is sturdy and protects the pencils properly so that they last through repeated resharpening, and also how the box can be flexed backwards so that it becomes a stand to display the choice of colours available.Would definitely recommend these (putting aside the debate over whether it's better to colour in pencil or pen!), no matter what type of colouring you are doing on paper or in colouring books these are a delight to use. Thank you.

I bought these coloured pencils to use in adult colouring books, and they are excellent for this task. Firstly, they come in a useful stand up plastic box which means you can easily select the one you want and keep yourself organised. The crayons themselves are as the name suggests quite soft. This means that you can put down layers of colour very easily and you can blend two or more colours very well. You can sharpen them to a very fine point for detailed work too which you will need to do with images like those in Johanna Basford's beautiful books. There are a good range of colours including plenty of blues and greens (my two favourite tones). One thing to bear in mind is that because of their softness they do need sharpening quite often, and consequently, the popular colours in your set will get shorter at a fairly alarming rate. I tend to buy a couple of sets when they are on offer to keep my stash topped up so that I don't run out.

Best pencils I have used. Love them. They were brought for me as a present. I had heard about them and seen them on several journalling blogs and heard several good reviews so I added the, to my amazon Wishlist. The case is super handy and stand on its own so you can easily select your preferred colour. The colours are strong and vibrant and colouring with these pencils are so smooth and doesn't give you wrist ache like some cheaper pencils do. You don't have to press particularly hard to obtain a good colour and then led is extremely strong. I've had the, for a bit now and none of the leads have broken at all. This pack contains a good selection of colours suitable for a variety of differentuses and in conjunction with a range of different medias. These pencils last for ages and you can obtain several different colours from one pencil by just using different strokes and dependant on how hard you press. They really are brilliant!

These are special pencils indeed, they last for such a long time, we've been using the same pack since early 2012. I've only now come to have to replace them. We only draw and colour for fun with our children however it's nice to do it with good materials. These are very good at shading from light to dark. Their is a good selection of colours and have every colour we've ever needed. They sharpen well and they don't break even with my youngest doing it, it is quite frustrating when you sharpen a pencil and it breaks and you have to start over, and then you've lost a bit of the pencil. When you are paying a premium for a superior product whilst these are worth their price, you don't want waste with breaking. The triangular shape makes them easy to hold and helps with intricate sketching and colouring in. It may sound daft to some but my eldest is left handed and especially finds these easier than a circular pencil.

I had previously bought the 48 pc set of Faber-Castell eco pencils, which were good but which I wasn't totally satisfied with. I think these pencils are much better. The colours are rich and go on smoothly. They hold a point well and can be used with great precision. The triangular design and barrel surface - which feels slightly waxy - make the pencils very comfortable to hold. I also love the case. The whole set looks and feels like a quality product. The only downside is that although you get a nice selection of colours, there are only 24 and there are no others in this design. If you want the other shades Staedtler do, you will need to purchase the Noris Club 145 36 pc tin but that will duplicate all 24 of these colours.Anyone wanting the full set of colours might be better off buying the 36 pc set (which seems to be of comparable quality) rather than this. Otherwise, I recommend them highly.

I honestly cannot rate these highly enough! I got a set of these beautiful pencils for My birthday, when I was 12 and now I'm 13 and a half and they're still going strong! The colours are rich, vibrant shades and look beautiful, whatever you're drawing! In fact, they appear to make my drawings seem better than they actually are!The triangular shape is perfect, and the pencils are soft and easy to hold as well! The lead coating works well; the lead has broken once or twice, but I feel sure that this is just due to me pressing too hard! I really do love the blue box which works as a stand, they look so lovely when on your desk! I will probably buy a brand new set of these for going up to my new school next year,as mine are becoming tiny from such regular use! But it's worth it!Definitely an excellent buy, worth every penny that you pay!!!!!!!
