STABILO beFab Fountain Pen with 3 Blue Ink Cartridges - Light/Dark Blue PinkThis is a sturdy, lightweight plastic fountain pen that takes standard short ink cartridges. It is comfortable to grip. The pen comes fitted with a medium-size nib and produces a smooth writing action - ie isn't scratchy at all. It produces a clear, consistent line of ink as soon as you start writing. It feels light in the hand but at the same time good quality and as if it will last for a long time and take a lot of knocks. In terms of design, the cap is a light blue colour with a navy blue end, and the barrell is navy blue with a Stabilo beFab logo in the same light blue colour. The clip is metallic silver with a Stabilo swan logo indented onto it.The whole pen has an attractive glossy finish, apart from the part where you grip the pen which is matte and in black plastic. The pen comes with 3 ink cartridges, one of which is tucked inside the pen lid. A spare cartridge can be carried around in the cap so you won't unexpectedly be left without unable to write. Overall, this is a practical and well-designed writing implement.=== THINGS I LIKE ABOUT THIS PRODUCT ===* The pen is nice and light, making it easy to hold even with the cap on the end* The pen is comfortable to hold and grip* Nice smooth writing action that begins as soon as you place pen to paper* Produces a good, clear line of medium width - not too narrow, not too thick* The cap fits snugly onto the end of the pen, where it stays in place when writing* The pen lid has a sturdy clip that means you can attach it to a pocket* Sleek, conservative styling, suitable for adults or children* Takes standard ink cartridges (ie you don't have to buy Stabilo ones)* beFab pens come in both rollerball or fountain pens and in dozens of different colour combinations* The cartridges are easy to fit into the pen - just push into place till you hear a click - and you can carry a spare one round with you in the pen lid so you won't run out of ink=== NIGGLES ===* This is a fairly staid design - perhaps appealing to an older demographic where the main range seems aimed at older primary school-age children and teenagers* The part of the pen that you grip - and which is standard across the beFab range - is black in colour and doesn't gel with the rest of the pen's designFor sale at the time of writing this review at £9.99.

The Stabilo fountain pen has a comfortable rubberised grip and does not slip in one's fingers, writing with it is easy because there is no friction on the paper (unlike a ball pen) and the ink flows very well for an even trace. When writing, the balance in one's hand is slightly top heavy with the cap stuck on the end, but neutral without it. The cap clicks into place positively when covering the nib for storage and the ink does not seem to dry out much or need helping to flow, but then I've only been using it for a week or so.As supplied it does not write, but this is because there is a dummy cartridge in the normal loaded place, and it is necessary to swap over the dummy with the filled one hidden above it inside the pen,or alternatively swap the dummy for a full one and keep the spare full one in the pen as the spacer. Always remember the usual trick of keeping the nib uppermost when tightening the pen halves together to pierce into the cartridge, just in case there was an air pocket under pressure. I used to live at altitude when at school and most of us were only ever caught out once by a flood of wasted ink.The nib looks good, but only time will tell how well it lasts. I used to wear out a cheap nib in a term at school until I changed to a Parker fountain pen, and that one I still use several decades later, and its original nib while now well worn is still good.I notice that the Stabilo

I like this fountain pen although, to be honest, I am not sure who the target market is. This version of the pen has a blue body which is the most sombre of the options, there are plenty of jazzier colours and designs on offer, and given the chunkiness of the design, I am guessing that this is aimed at teenagers. If you are a teenager, or you know one, who likes fountain pens, this is a fun pen to try. It's also incredibly comfortable to hold, so perfect for writing long essays... if you write essays in longhand. You use ink cartridges and there is space in the body of the pen to hold a spare cartridge, which is great. The ink supplied is a medium-dark blue which flows easily from a medium nib which is slightly narrower than other medium nibs I own so you can write quite small without losing legibility. The clip on the pen is nicely chunky and strong, and overall the pen looks like it has has lots of thought put into the design as well as the comfort.

I was expecting this to be a good, well made pen as it comes from STABILO.And in all honesty it is a good pen.The design as others have stated is rather old fashioned with the pale and dark blue combination, and the clunky pen clip etc. However as a fountain pen fanatic what matters is how it writes. And I am blown away, this writes so well, the ink flow is good and it produces a semi fine, almost medium nib experience.I like it, and I like it lot.If only the design aesthetic was a little more pleasing...So why 4 stars rather than 5.Well, I worry a lot about plastic waste and to supply the pen with an empty cartridge (you get 4 cartridges, one empty!!! and three filled. So why on earth would you supply an item with an empty cartridge. It is a waste of plastic and just adding to the worlds plastic landfill problem.Having had my little rant, I would recommend this low cost fountain pen, it writes superbly well.

There aren't any instructions but it seems quite obvious to take out the empty cartridge and insert a full one. I was puzzled by the claim the ink is "erasable" - with what? I have to say I think it writes beautifully (I haven't used a fountain pen for years) and I like the retro idea of cartridges. I was also glad there was no smudging, my memory of anything involving ink cartridges was of smudged forefingers. The ink is very fast-drying.The pen is quite chunky as is the stainless steel clip on the lid.The blue colours are quite classy but I thought the "stabilo" logo a bit unnecessary - why not just stick with the far more attractive swan logo. When the pen is out of the lid the grip section is excellent, but I don't like the clear plastic ridged "waist" around the pen.Generally an excellent fountain pen with a few design idiosyncrasies.

I used to love writing with a fountain pen when I was at school so it was interesting to see what my 13 year old daughter thought of this pen. It writes beautifully, really fluidly and there's no irritating scratching sound. Its chunky, funky design will appeal to teens but I'd quite like one for myself as the design makes it easy to find in my handbag. The clip is really sturdy and you can store two ink cartridges in the pen. It claims to be erasable and results using a Lamy ink eradicator pen were very successful and ideal to use if tippex isn't allowed e.g. at school. This would make a great gift for anyone into handwriting, scrapbooking or calligraphy. It's not as sleek and pretty as more traditional models but it certainly brings the fountain pen to a new generation.

Fountain pens have become less popular in recent years, mainly as they are a bit of a pain. The need to replace the ink cartridges and also the likelihood of smudging the wet ink has led people to use biros and rollerballs instead. This pen from the very established brand Stabilo is a great purchase. Whilst you still have the two drawbacks above, it's a good quality and comfortable pen. It's smooth when writing, easy and comfortable to hold and also good value. Yes you need to replace the cartridges, and due to their small size you need to do this quite often, but I do believe fountain pens provide a superior writing experience and this is especially important for presentation reasons.Overallthis is a great fountain pen.

I always used to use fountain and cartridge pens from primary school onwards, but I got out of the habit in my late twenties when the jobs I had weren't really conducive to writing with them. Using this pen has reminded me of how much nicer they are to use than biros - smooth and needing a lot less effort. This has become increasingly important to me as my writing hand has been affected by MS.The chunky lines and rubberised grip of the pen mean that even with the altered sensation in my hand, this feels comfortable to use, and more importantly, produces legible results without me having to resort to block capitals. The supplied ink runs well, and is a nice intense blue.A pleasure to use.

A good beginners fountain pen this, they come in a variety of colours so good for kids wanting to get into using fountain pens. The one I have tried is a blue colour with a sky blue cap. Comes with two blue ink cartridges and the flow of ink is good and writing is smooth and problem free. A decent basic steel nib and price wise pretty fair about the same as a Lamy Safari which if anyone hasn't tried one is one of the best basic pens you can use and lasts for years. Time will tell how long this will last but all in all a good pen.

This pen writes really well, and I love the soft rubbery grip. Three cartridges are supplied, and when one has been inserted into the pen you can place a spare one on top on it in the pen body. This blue design is a bit plainer than the previous water melon one I got, but it is much better suited to my son as he didn't fancy using a pink water melon pen!An ideal first fountain pen, really easy to use and good to write with. Would recommend.

A good pen begins to write immediately an ink cartridge is pushed into the barrel and this one does. It gives a nice clean line that is quite fine and is very smooth to write with. It comes with 3 cartridges, two in the blister pack and one already in the barrel of the pen. The cartridges are standard size and although not a large capacity the ability to keep a second in the barrel makes up for his. A good pen, just a little expensive.

A great first fountain pen for our daughter, aged 8. She feels very grown up, and likes writing little messages to us. The pen writes nicely, for a relatively cheap children's pen, and I like that it is fairly chunky and easy to grip. The cartridges are easily obtained from WHSmiths and their own brand fit it well. Is it as good as a Parker? I'm not sure, I would say Parker pips it, but for price you can't go wrong here.

Good, basic fountain pen for everyday use, nice balance, writes well with a good flow of ink to a solid nib making for a very smooth overall writing experience. Cartridges easy to install and the whole pen has a decent feel and ideal for those who like to use fountain pens for specific tasks, or for younger people who want to give 'proper' ink pens like this a go.

For the price charged this is an excellent fountain pen - aimed at the school market rather than business use but writes surprisingly well.Comes with 3 blue cartridges - universal ones that are cheap and easy to find.no flash but perfectly fine.
