If you want a modestly priced fountain pen with a modern look then this Stabilo is a decent option. It features the sharp styling for which this brand is famous with an abstract design in bold colours which fits into a modern office. In the hand the pen has some weight but it is not heavy to handle or to write with offering a comfortable as well as stable platform for working. The nib is strong and writes fluently although I found the ink coverage a bit uneven if you write something very quickly like a signature or similar. Three cartridges are supplied-they are the short generic kind that don't last terribly long, but on the other hand are cheap and easy to find when you need to buy more.Changing one is easy and mess free. The blue ink is somewhere in the middle of the spectrum neither a very dark shade or certainly not a sky blue type of shade. My only other observation would be who writes with these kind of pens these days? Those that do tend to want something which is top end, but if you love writing with a fountain pen and want something reliable and relatively inexpensive you need not hesitate.

This is a good, basic fountain pen. The ‘medium’ nib produces a line width of about what you would expect (0.5mm, according to the packaging), the ink flows freely, and it is convenient that it uses ink in cartridges. In both colour and permanence, the ink is somewhere in-between the old Parker standbys of royal blue washable and permanent blue-black. It is neither as bright as royal blue nor as dark as blue-black. If splashed with water it runs a little, but the writing remains legible. If any ink gets on your skin, it is easily washed off.I thought at first that my pen was supplied with only two cartridges, not three, as advertised. An empty, open-ended polythene tube occupied the space inside the pen where I expected to find the third. Then I found that the third was also inside the pen, but tucked away in the upper part of the casing. That ‘secret’ space means that you can always keep a spare cartridge with the pen, as well as the one in use. A good idea, especially as the cartridges are rather small. It looks as if these are the designated replacement cartridges –

This pens writes very smoothly, it having a traditional fountain pen steel nib. This nib being a medium, It produces a good thickness of line for handwriting, and will keep the ink coming as quickly as you can write. It comes with three refills - 38mm long cartridges. These slot into place in the usual manner. There is space inside the body of the pen to store a spare cartridge. As fountain pens go, this one is a winner. Its design is colourful diagonal stripes. This is fine for children and casual use, but probably not a great look for business, where something more traditional-looking might be expected. The red plastic end caps are particularly cheap-looking. At £9.99 (may 2017)this seems expensive for a plastic pen, even if it is a fountain pen. On the plus side, it is from Stabilo, which is an excellent brand in pens for illustrators and artists.

I used to love writing with a fountain pen when I was at school so it was interesting to see what my 13 year old daughter thought of this pen. It writes beautifully, really fluidly and there's no irritating scratching sound. Its chunky, funky design will appeal to teens but I'd quite like one for myself as the design makes it easy to find in my handbag. The clip is really sturdy and you can store two ink cartridges in the pen. It claims to be erasable and results using a Lamy ink eradicator pen were very successful and ideal to use if tippex isn't allowed e.g. at school. This would make a great gift for anyone into handwriting, scrapbooking or calligraphy. It's not as sleek and pretty as more traditional models but it certainly brings the fountain pen to a new generation. Of course my teen now wants several of the designs.

Although fountain pens are not particularly common now, my husband always uses one when writing and so he was keen to try this out. This comes with three ink cartridges and one can be stored inside the pen, so you have a spare while you are using it.These come in various styles and I am not sure about the colour of this – it is light green, with a red and white pattern. It looks quite chunky and the styling/pattern is reminiscent of the 1980’s. Either you will like the retro design, or you won’t, but it has a substantial clip and writes smoothly. If you are thinking of trying out a fountain pen and do not want to spend too much, this could be a good buy to try one out.

It would be nice to think that young people still wanted to have nice handwriting and an elegant signature, and if that is the case this product seems designed to fulfill that market niche, being a chunky, garish, 80s retro item in the style supposedly loved by pre-teen girls. The body of the pen is big enough to contain a spare refill, to give you an idea of it's bulk. It seems quite fragile, as if it won't last long, but it writes well. However, even if you are of the aforesaid niche market, surely you'd prefer something a bit classier in stainless steel or wood, both of which styles are available from reputable manufacturers for the same price as this?

I love writing with this pen!I think a lot more people would write with fountain pens if they knew you can get really great cheap ones like this. The fountain pen has three image problems I think - first that they are old fashioned, second that they are messy and third that they are expensive. But these days there are quite a few good cheap fountain pens like this that write smoothly and make the whole affair much more pleasurable. The ‘medium’ steel nib produces a line width of 0.5mm and the ink flows freely. There is space within the body of the pen to store a spare ink cartridge.Very happy.

The performance of this ink pen is good. The ink flows evenly, and the nib writes smoothly - there was no scratching on the paper. On the down side, the pen is very light weight, and feels a little top-heavy if used with the cap attached to the top. I also feel that the cap looks to be rather brittle plastic - I wouldn't be surprised if that cracked after a few month use. These, though are minor niggles, and certainly not deal-breakers, especially considering the cheap price.I'm not sure if children still use pen and ink; but if they do, this would be a great choice.

When you think about it, it's surprising that fountain pens have not come back into favour. They are so much more environmentally friendly, nothing gets used up except ink (is ink bio-degradable?) , but most of us use plastic biros and chuck them away by the ton. So, here is a fountain pen, not looking like the sort of thing you are given on retirement (and keep in its box) but a snazzy red and gray number, very nice and easy to write with, which has nice clean little ink capsules instead of all that messing around with ink wells (remember them?) Definitely a winner.

A good pen begins to write immediately an ink cartridge is pushed into the barrel and this one does. It gives a nice clean line that is quite fine and is very smooth to write with. It comes with 3 cartridges, two in the blister pack and one already in the barrel of the pen. The cartridges are standard size and although not a large capacity the ability to keep a second in the barrel makes up for his. Love the funky design of this one with the markings that line up. A good pen, just a little expensive.

Stabilo has always had a reputation for good quality stationery products and this 'fun' fountain pen continues that tradition.Finished in grey and red helix stripes the pen has a push-on cap, a medium width stainless steel nib and three blue ink cartridges. While it will never emulate a Mont Blanc fountain pen it writes smoothly and without scratching. My grand daughter has just started using a fountain pen at school and I'm sure she'll be delighted to add this to her pen and pencil case.

This fountain pen is cheap and cheerful, and reminds me of the ones I used to use when I was a kid at school. It has the same scratchy feel on paper if you don’t hold it properly, it has the same type of cartridges that leak if you’re not careful, it has the same thick structure that takes time to get used to, and it still look rather cheap. That being said, it is fairly reliable and the ink is of good quality.

it's a long way from the worst too. It's great in that it takes the easily find universal cartridges and they are easy to fit. That's a big advantage, in findability and cost. It's comfortable to hold and has a nice softish grip area. I like the thickness of the barrel. It has a good flow of ink and I find I write well with it. If you want an everyday fountain pen I've used worse.

I love these funky Stabilo pens. This fountain pen has a good nib for the price and the plastic pen feels nicely chunky in the hand. It's very light and comes in a range of fun, bright colors. The refills also fit the Stabilo roller-ball pens in this range which is handy. Great if you love writing with a 'proper' pen but are worried about losing your Mont Blanc when out.

My partner has permanently borrowed these pens so this is largely her take on them. They are beautiful to write with and don't blot like traditional fountain pens. Most importantly she says they have not leaked at all during all the time she has been carrying them around in her bag. She also likes the design of the refill being inside the pen(?) Top marks all round.
