A couple of years ago my daughter was given some Moon Sand for a birthday present and I still recall the huge amount of mess with horror, so when I was offered the chance to review this I felt some trepidation. Of course, although Moon Sand was the first such product on the market, there are now a huge array of various play sands, of which Kinetic Sand is another brand.Aimed at ages 3+, this set contains:1ib of purple Kinetic Sand4 plastic sand moulds1 plastic sand box trayThe tray is quite small, but it does help to contain the mess – however, you might still want to put some newspaper or a plastic cloth down before beginning. It was a shame that the sand came in only one colour – if there was not a choice of colours,then a more neutral ‘sand’ colour, might have been better than bright purple, but at least the colours cannot get mixed up if there is only one to choose from.Comparing this to the previous brand my daughter had, this seemed to keep its shape better. It was less crumbly and, consequently, less messy. However, as it is bright purple, then any bits which do escape are quite visible. If you build a tower from the sand, it seems to gently fall apart, rather than ending up as a powdery mess, and it keeps the shape you make well. When you pile the sand up it seems quite firm and if you cut it, then it has a distinct ‘crunch’ and does seem much improved on the brand we had previously (although obviously that make may have improved too).Overall, I was relatively impressed with this product. It was not as messy as I had thought it might be, but the relatively small amount of sand in the pack could be improved upon. I would consider this as a ‘starter’ pack and possibly buy some extra sand if you are considering buying this for your child. Also, be aware that the sand has to be stored in a sealed container and, as it comes in a plastic bag, you will have to have something to keep it in. Also, you are supposed to keep it dry, so don’t put it in a sandbox which has a water compartment. As a toy though it offers a lot of fun and imaginative play.

Bought as a Christmas present for my 6 year old daughter I thought the price was a little high for the product nearly £10 more than the basic set and the only difference is a bit of extra sand and a couple of moulds but it was a very much wanted gift from Santa so I purchased the set. The tray is not deep enough to play with the sand in ito to shallow and most of it ends up on the dining table or the floor, the moulds are ok but my initial reservations about the cost were right as th the tray and moulds are easily bought in for a couple of pounds so the £10 this manufacturer has charged is a bit cheeky really and I have cashed in on a new product that is a popular Christmas present request.The sand it's self it's fun to play with it is not however fun to get off your skin afterwards I would after a couple of playtimes recommend that you get sum latex child friendly gloves it's hard to clean off and gets stuck solid under even the shortest of finger nails. You do get a good amount of sand wit the set but it's all the same colour (blue) so extra bags of the other colours have since been purchased as has a deeper tray (cat litter tray from a pet shop) I would say that if you are going to buy kinetic sand don't buy this set get the basic set which has the 3different colours of sand in and then buy ur moulds and tools separately.

This set is excellent. I've always been keen to try after seeing the countless adverts advertising this item so was pleased my daughters birthday was approaching to be able to buy.Upon opening the box it is pretty much ready to go once you have emptied the sand from the plastic bag it came in. The great thing is that once you have finished you can simply pop the shapes into the tray which already contains the sand, and because it never dries out you simply slide into the box ready for another day.The sand itself is great and very addictive for play! You can mould it in your hands, when you pull it apart it falls almost as a liquid would. It really is as good as it looks! A bonus is if, like myself,you have younger children or siblings who all want to get in on the action and can spill the sand onto the table - you simply push a bit around and the remaining sand clings to it - hassle free clearing up!There is one slight thing, although this could just be where it has spilled over out of the tray (like the rug for example), that when we next go play there are tiny little grains of hard sand type bits with a stony feel - as mentioned though this could be down to us and possibly contaminating it a little. I really cannot fault it otherwise though although being a bit cheaper would of course be wonderful!

This sand is awesome! Literally everyone who has seen it, has played with it and said the same thing; "That's amazing". My 4 year old loves playing with it and it's reasonable mess-free. It doesn't stick to your hands or anything else really. A few things worthy of mentioning:1. You don't get much sand, certainly not as much as shown on the box so don't be fooled. To be fair, too much more and there would likely be more spillage so the amount you get is about right.2. It's not totally 'mess-free', if the sand drops out of the tray you will need the hoover! This is obvious to some but not to all.If you're looking for something for your little one to enjoy then this is the perfect purchase for you.As a tip, buy a matt to go underneath the tray to catch the overspill!

My son is so happy with this Kinetic Sand. It is a vibrant bright purple shade and comes with a play box and 4 moulds. The sand is very easy to mould into shapes and it retains the shape until you are ready to start again. It is so easy to clean up any mess, simply hoover away, it doesn't stain surfaces or get stuck in carpet. It feels soft and is ideal for sensory needs children as it has a calming effect on their senses and they feel improved self esteem when they can make something so easily especially with the moulds, you just press them onto the sand and it makes the shape, no need to put the sand in the mould. highly recommended.

This is fantastic stuff got it next day through prime, the kits are so good, they come with a tray and plastic shapes you can use to make sand castles or sand crabs or any other shape, best thing I ever bought, so much fun to play with, the way the sand comes together to make the shapes but if you start to move it it falls apart like real sand, but with no gritty feeling, it doesn't smell bad and the glitter just adds to the look of it, bought it for my daughter but I spend more time playing with it as I find it relaxes me

I recently purchased kenetic sand for my daughter she absolutely loves it! It helps her develop her imagination of what she wants to make every single day. It helps her to be creative and also challenges her self to set goals of what she wants to achieve to make. The quality of the overall product was amazing. Overall Argos has amazing delivery service which I recommend it was fast and quick and the service overall was brilliant I definitely will be purchasing of Argos’s again very soon!

This stuff is great non toxic and doesn't seem to dry out even when left out in the tray. Not at all like play doh that hardens. Also if it gets on your clothing or carpets it doesn't stick it will brush off and Hoover up. Everyone was fascinated by this stuff so much so I bought 2 more sets. The only down side to this is the smell and it gets worse with time. It's hard to decribe but it's like old cooking fat. It's not strong by any means but you can smell it when you play with it.

I bought this kinetic sand kit for my 4 year old niece, she loves it and usually wants me to get involved in her ‘play time’. Usually I get bored and have to fake my amusement while I’m held captive in her play room... HOWEVER, I must say I was kept entertained for hours playing with the kinetic sand with my 4 year old niece. It was great for her and for me too! Really served as a form of stress relief for me, I also felt like I was at Hogwarts, ‘cos the sand feels like pure magic.

My kids love this. Play doh was a firm favourite until we stumbled across this. This item since purchase has been played with everyday by a 2 and 4 year old. Never dries out when left out so you can go back and be creative again and again, the included tray makes for little or no mess. Well worth what we paid for it. Never mattered too us but from looking at the packing online and from a previous question answered by Argos you would expect purple sand, however we got green.

This is is an amazing product for kids. It's a type of sand but interestingly it doesn't stick to your hand. You can use the moulds to make any shape as you want, but then when you want to change them, it changes so smoothly that you can't imagine. Once you have it in your hand, you would not let it go from your hand. You can't stop squishing the sands. I would recommend it 100% and also would buy some more colours of it to make a great combination for my kids.

Absolutely brilliant. Very unusual texture. Bought it for my 2 yr old grandson and he loves it. I read many reviews before buying it and a few people seem to think that there wasn't enough sand but I found that there was more than enough. I love the fact that there is no mess whatsoever and my grandson hasn't stopped playing with it. I have improvised with different moulds from the kitchen such as cake cutters etc. I would highly recommend this product.

Both my 2yr old & 5yr old love playing with this. It's great that it comes with a plastic play tray to contain the sand whilst playing. It doesn't come with a great deal of sand, there isn't enough to cover the bottom of the tray. Enough sand for having some fun but I'll definitely be buying some more to add to ours. This sand is so much fun, moulds so well and makes perfect shapes. I think most children would love this as a gift.

This is great . especially for a special needs child because of the texture. There's enough sand for the four small moulds you get. With plenty of sand left over. Think it's great for the price. The sand feels like sand but also a very soft play dough that is very light weight but the moulds when moulded from the sand stays in one position for ages. Be. Great eventually I they made this in to a large pack with more moulds

I bought this for my great niece who loves this kind of thing. The way the sand works helps to keep it to clean fun. You can add your own moulds to expand the game. It comes in two colours but you can't choose which is a shame especially if you are buying for more than one child. I was sent purple which was a relief as this is my nieces favourite colour. There is no lid but you can make use of the box.
