this was a gift for my daughter's 6th birthday from her best friend so she was already keen to do it. She has had a fantastic time with it with a little help particularly around the moulding. You should sprinkle the powder into water (not too much water to start) rather than water into powder as it makes a smoother mix with less bubbles. There is no need to completely fill the moulds to the top and if you put less in you will easily make 6 fairies out of each of the 2 bags of plaster. They actually look better than the thick ones we made with the first bag. I agree the colours are limited - pink, purple, blue, yellow and white and there is not nearly enough white to make enough 'flesh' pink,or many other pastel colours - we had to go and buy some more white but it was worth it as my daughter spent several hours on several days doing these. I found it less messy to dip the freshly painted fairy in the glitter rather the sprinkling the glitter over the wet paint. We stuck the magnets on with superglue and they are still up on the fridge (apart from the ones she has proudly given away). we didn't use the badges as we forgot to put them it but I think they would be quite heavy to pin to any clothing. would definitely buy this again - not sure what the reviewer who filled their bin with them was doing!!

This is the 5th of these mould sets we've bought or received as gifts, we are big fans!In my rush to purchase I didnt realise that unlike the other ranges, this one only includes 1x bag of plaster, hence why it is half the price of the others. The detail of the mermaid design is a lot more intricate than other sets, (e.g. cupcakes) so would suit an older more careful child 7yr old+ more than a rushing 5yr old. Due to the need for precision, the makers have kindly included a finer point paintbrush and still the same amount of paint as other sets. You are expected to mix your own colours. This is not realistic for very young kids to achieve with these miniature pots so I always have our own ready mixed poster paints at the ready.Lovely craft set to kill a few hours. When mixing the plaster and filling the provided mould tray, we always have enough leftover to fill 2 or 3 extra moulds from our other design sets (see photo showing our bonus extras we made). If the child mixes the plaster gently they are less likely to get bubbles which make holes when the plaster is set.Fab set, but trickier intricate design than others.Amazing value for the length of entertainment it provides.

This is a great set! I bought this after warily reading the review where someone said it would be better as a bin filler and I was pleasantly surprised. My 8 year old daughter absolutely loves it. I put the water in all at once by accident though, so took about 2hours to dry instead of 30 mins! We now have two glitter fairies on the fridge. Another broke because the plaster was too thin (1 pack of plaster fills up 4 and a half moulds) The trick with the magnets is to let the plaster dry completely before attempting to stick them on - as we found after one fell off with bits of not-quite-dry plaster stuck to it. My only complaint is really that the paint colours are not diverse enough, meaning that there was a pink, blue, yellow, white and purple. In my experience with paints it is much better to have all primary colours that you can mix on a separate palette, as we could not make red, a proper orange, brown or black which was quite frustrating. Other than that, it's brilliant.

We were looking for something different in the presents line for our older granddaughter (aged 4) which was not already on her list. I had read reviews on Amazon for this and similar products but of course it may still be a risk with the individual child. This was a gift to help the child learn some craft skills and therefore to make the moulds and paint them under supervision. My wife helped our g-daughter make 3 moulds and paint them 2 weeks after Christmas and neither of them were disappointed! Yes they are small and not easy to paint but a fair result was achieved. She wanted to do it again 2 weeks later so definitely a success and from our point of view good value for money.

Bought this as one of many birthday presents for my daughter, I have to say it went down a treat. Being a novice at plaster casting I was rather dubious but our first attempt turned out rather good! I didnt get quite all of the air bubbles out of the mix after I'd spooned it into the mould but will do better next time around. I love the fact that there's enough plaster powder for 2 goes. Just need to buy a few more magnets to stick on. And another great thing, I've bought it the other mould and glitter designs as gifts for my daughters friends and we can swap moulds! excellent. Great value for money! My daughter was so proud of her handiwork!

We spent a lovely Sunday making these. We over filled the moulds a bit - they don't need to be flush to the top, and the badges were a bit fiddly to keep out of the plaster of paris until it had set. I took off one star as my son really wanted to make badges and only a couple of badge pins were provided. As there is enough plaster in the kit to make a dozen moulds I'd have thought at least half a dozen would be in the box. However all other aspects are great. My son really enjoyed mixing the plaster and pouring into the moulds. And he loved painting them once set later in the day. Really nice product.

Sorry to read previous review as I think these plaster of paris mould sets are great (unlike shaker maker which was a messy waste of time). Add a little water to the bag of plaster of paris, mix, pour into moulds (you can add a magnet when its just starting to thicken), leave to set for a few hours, carefully pop out of the mould,(the fairies should be hard and shiny) and then use the paints to decorate. There are two bags of plaster included so you can make another batch of fairies another time.My five and 10 year old love them and enjoy giving them to gran or whoever afterwards.

We bought these originally as a gift for a 6th birthday present for a friend and it was such a success I've now bought them for my daughter and another friend. It is a lovely activity the plaster part needs adult help but the decorating can be completely child led. We forgot to put the magnets & pins on while the plaster was drying so added them with super glue when they were dry. We are looking forward to doing a second lot with the rest of the plaster. Highly recommend for girls from 4-8 with varying amounts of adult support.

Bought this for my little sister who is 4 for Christmas. The name alone sounded fabulous, the sound of ''Glitter Fairy's'' made her eyes light up. She really enjoyed painting them and glittering these up. They are a little messy with the glitter and obviously the paint so that is something to be cautious of if your a bit of a clean freak. Overall for the price of £8, absolutely fabulous present for a young girl! 9/10

My 6 year old daughter had fun mixing the plaster and pouring it into the moulds to make mermaids. It then kept her quiet for ages painting them. She really enjoyed this and the mermaids are proudly on diplay. I would point out that the mermaids are small approx. 2 inches high. There is enough plaster and paint to make all the mermaids twice and the paint is lovely quality and nice colours.

I bought this set for my 6 year old granddaughter and she loved it. The set comes with six moulds which are adequate for the purpose and two bags of plaster. Each bag is sufficient to make the six moulds so you get 12 figures. Also included is a set of five or six paints which again are adequate for the job. My granddaughter had great fun making and painting the figures.

My 8 year old daughter got one of these when she was a bit younger and really wanted another so I got it for her for christmas and she absolutely loved doing it again. Many hours of fun making and then decorating them. fun and easy to do. Not a lot of mess. If your child likes making and creating and they are girly this will be a perfect present.

I like to give my niece and nephew presents which they can spend some time assembling, and then enjoy whatever it is they have made & customised. It helps keep them quiet for an hour on a rainy day, and maybe even helps nurture their creative skills. I think they are great presents, and the children enjoyed decorating them.
