I have been using DAS for many years and I keep coming back to it for two reasons:1) Once 100% dry (inside as well as out - it may take a few days) it is easy to carve using an X-acto knife. If the blade is sharp it can be craved to very fine detail.2) You can add fresh clay to completely dry clay and it sticks perfectly. This is a great feature as you can keep working on a piece that's already dry. I don't know of any other clay that can do this as well as DAS.I find that DAS works best as a thin layer over a core of wire and tinfoil, this way you use less material, it dries faster, the resulting piece is much lighter and, if you have a strong wire armature inside, you can create complicated,gravity-defying shapes. On the downside, DAS can be frustrating to model when wet as it won't take fine detail (it's a bit like trying to model chewing gum). Also, although easy to paint with acrylic paints once dry, the paint just "sits on top" of the clay and does not bind to it, so it scratches and peels off very easily, although it can varnished with a suitable matt varnish to get a durable finish.

Bought this for making some decorations for a secret santa gift with a very low budget- bit disappointed that the price halved about a week later! It worked fine- it's a little difficult to get a smooth finish without sanding the finished result, but it dries in 24hours (thin pieces) and a few days (thicker pieces like the enterprise below). Painted it up with nail polish (as I'm a nail artist and have a lot of it on hand) and moulded the clay around the ribbons which will be holding the decorations up. The polish once completely dry set pretty hard and I couldn't scratch it off with my fingernails but I'll probably finish with a coat of varnish anyway just to be safe. Overall it was easy enough to mould,I had a dappen dish of water to keep it wet and smooth while I was working with it, it sticks to itself well, it's fine for a low budget craft project and it doesn't seem too fragile (although I'm reluctant to properly test it by dropping the larger pieces, I did drop the emblem by accident and it didn't chip or anything!)

Bought this to make a little clay keepsake but as in a uni room didn't want much hassle or mess. This was perfect. Was advised air-dry clay by a friend a d it's amazing! Needs no tools to mould and dried in less than 24 hours!! Bare in mind I had made a little 3d model about 7cm in height but have read online it shouldn't take longer than 3 days which baring in mind this is an alternative to firing is fab! I left mine out of the sun when drying as I read it can encourage cracking. Found that attaching any bits together needed some water between so good to have some on hand! seriously easy. Painted this the next day and had a lovely finish! Couldent be happier! The paints I used were just crayola washable paints and they worked fab so I'd say any paints that aren't watercolours should be fine. Would highly reccomend!

I bought this to model on to a plastic base, so oven-drying clays were not an option. I cleaned the plastic and wiped it with meths, and had no problems sticking the clay to it without extra glue. I've been working in small bits at a time, and not wanting to wait, have been propping it over a radiator to dry. Drying like this takes minutes, and hasn't caused cracks. Once dry, it's easy to sand. There are no instructions with the pack. (Nor did the one I bought have a sealing tab.) I went online for tips. To smooth the surface, or if it gets a little dry, use a small amount of water. Close the pack carefully after removing clay so it doesn't dry out. When doing very fine details, you will notice the slight hairiness of the texture, which may be a problem. The smell isn't too bad.

This is great, perfect for what I had wanted it for! Easy to work with and once it’s dry the effect is very good. Only thing I found was that as it’s air drying it does tend to dry out quickly while you’re using it (maybe half an hour it had started to dry out a little) if you’re not careful so it’s best to think and plan out what you’re going to do with it before you start to use it. I was a little bit dubious about using this as thought maybe it would look a bit cheap compared to clay you fire in a kiln but once dry I don’t think I could tell much of a different in the effect, so was quite pleased and so was the perfect who’s Christmas present I had made with it.

Very good quality, no real downsides. I ordered this to make a few small models for my window sill. It was really easy to sculpt with and was very good quality once dry, especially with thinner and more delicate parts. The clay is initially a very light grey, but once dry it is most definitely white as described. It was also very easy to paint (I used acrylics). I would recommend you keep some water nearby while sculpting though, just to make sure it doesn't get too dry while you're working. It was a great product and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes this sort of thing. Was delivered fast and great for the price :)

I haven't received this item yet and I will update when I do but, but my reason for buying this was to make impressions of my children's hands and feet as the actual baby/child impression sets are so expensive its ridiculous! I have used this soft white air drying clay before in a baby hand/foot impression kit and found it perfect to work with as if the hand/foot impression doesn't come out right all you have to do is re-roll it and you can try again till you get the perfect hand/footprint, other plaster type sets dry far to quickly so if it goes wrong you cant re do it.. I cant wait to receive this item :)

This is my first experience of modelling with clay and I am enjoying it. I chose air-dry as I don't have options for baking it. I found it easy to work with and just needed to wet my fingers a few times while working. I found when binding two pieces together to score each piece and wet them, then work to smooth them together.I only needed to cut small amounts off the block to have plenty to work with. The block has to be properly sealed again straight away and stored somewhere cool and airtight. If some of the clay starts to dry out, just wetting my hands and working it brought it back to life again.

I bought this to repair an antique ceramic dish where one of the two handles had been broken off ... I needed to make a complete new handle and have that stuck in place at one end of the dish. The DAS clay seemed to work very wel for that and it was quite easy to shape a new handle to almost exactly match the original handle. As this is a very rare 200 year old pottery dish, the repair is only intended to improve the appearance of the dish on the display shelves of my dresser, so I have no idea how strong that new handle is (and I'm not intending to test it), but as a cosmetic repair it's very good.

This is the second pack of DAS clay we've bought. It's great value and, because it doesn't need firing, it's very straight forward to use.The kids love it - My eldest can make intricate models with plenty of time for etchings and decorations before it dries out, whilst my 8 year old is able to scrap what he was doing and start over by using a sprinkling of water. There's easily enough in there for two kids to have a go at creating something - even after I've pinched a chunk of it to play with!A great next step for when they grow out of play-doh and plasticine.

This clay is a timeless classic I keep coming back to. It's easy to use and drys quickly with no need for ovens or hardeners. You can paint it, varnish it or leave it as it is. I use it for my own things like decorations and my kids love using it too. You need to work fairly quickly with it and seal it up really well if you don't use it all at one time so it doesn't dry out. And only other thing I would say is if you roll it too thin it can be delicate when dry but that is the same with any clay. Good value and great fun.

23.4.2015

It's very soft and pliable and moist from the pack. Easy for children to use and mould into shapes. We found we needed to use a good deal of water while working with this, in order to keep the resulting model smooth and intact. Otherwise the models start to crack up and fall apart within hours after being left to dry out. Takes about 2 days to dry out in our house. Probably will take less time if we place it outdoors on a sunny day to dry. I am going to buy it again. Good fun.

It’s brilliant, slightly different composition than I remember from 30 years ago, but no problems using it!If your work starts cracking use a little water and re smooth it, dry your work partly covered so it doesn’t dry too quickly!I have been having fun making 1/12 food items for mini Viking meal tableaux and other 1/12 items, it’s as much fun as it was al, those years ago! It’s a fantastic product at a great price and I am glad I have come back to using it!

The reviews on this item were very variable, but I have found this to be a brilliant product. The packagiing has been opened and closed over a few months and the clay is still as soft and flexible as when it was packed at the factory. It has not dried out or hardened since its first use, as some reviewers claim, as a result I am happy with this product and have used it on a number of restoration projects. I would certainly re-order when more is needed.

Cheapest price on the net and superb fast delivery. I use this stuff to keep the small grandchildren occupied (4 and 6). Last time round we made Wols which we dried on the radiators then painted and glittered and off went the Babbies with their new owl pendants. Next time round I believe we're making tea sets. Or bells. Or whatever we want to. The only limits to the wonderfulness of DAS clay is the imagination of the users.
