I have given this x700 a good road test paired with my LG 65" oled and Yamaha Atmos amplifier for a couple of weeks and very happy with it.Via hdmi 2.1hi speed cables NOTE no hdmi cables supplied in box, just remote/batteries , instructions and player and power mains 3 pin lead.Brings new life to standard 1080p blurays with amazing upscaling to 4k.4k hdr discs play seamless and look great in both dolby vision and hdr10 but the older classic films now hdr remastered look good but some do show graining in sky lines etc now and then but the newer releases REALLY pop. Its down to the disc suppliers how good the film is mastered, not the player so each movie is different in quality. The player played all audio formats inc TrueAtmos i found on The Greatest Showman 4k hdr, all others shows DD 7.1 HD which is Atmos enabled.Plays everything i have thrown at it in file form video wise, audio similar but wont play Atmos or DD7.1 HD audio via MKV files on usb 3 external drive or wired/2.4 wireless network. No biggy as DTS 5.1 is enabled in the MKV file format playback.I dont have Netflix but Amazon prime and BBCi apps play well enough , steam 4k and 1080p fine but i found they look slightly better using the apps embedded on my LG tv.Simple connections on the back, HDMI out x2 ( 1x video+audio, 1x audio only) wired RJ45 lan network socket, digital coaxial jack , 12v dc power in from supplied mains power adapter. ( note NO optical out )Region locked to B for Bluray and 2 for dvd.Remote control could be better , lightweight and flimsy feeling buttons but works fine, the HDMI ARC system allows me to turn off my LG tv and work the Yamaha amplifier volume from the players remote too.Atmos is great but not the deal breaker , the Dolby sound system is backward compatable with a simple 2 speaker tv but the DolbyDigital 5.1 DTS thats been around for decades still sounds amazing, Atmos gives it more presence.Having the best equipment shows the flaws that were missed in older movie making, 4K video is marmite...love it or loath it..Dolby audio is neutral, its as good as your equipment decoding and distributing.4stars for only having 2.4 wireless and no Atmos enabled MKV file permissions.I would recommend it.

I have owned this for a couple of weeks now, and although i have not passed any 4k bluray discs through this machine yet - what i have used (old dvd's, blurays, netflix in hdr,4k and standard 1080p,amazon prime video and youtube) has been nothing short of spectacular. Great upscalling on certain dvd's make them a much more enjoyable watch than before, blurays upscale beautifully and are more colourful than before. but what has impressed me is how the motion has been handled while watching fast scenes in movies, way less blur and no judder what so ever on anything i have thrown at the sony so far. all in all at this price their is nothing on the market to compare a great buy and so much value for money.you will not notice this machine when playing discs it is the quietest machine i have ever come across, excellent build quality and also a way smaller machine than certain rivals. HDR is a mixed bag though (but is not a deal breaker for me as tv's need 12bit or higher to display true hdr like dolby vision), sometimes great - but sometimes a little bland and dark - but like i said i have not used a 4k disc yet.

In an honest opinion it's too expensive for what it is, albeit it's a great 4k player but it's not perfectIts noisy during films can hear it over the Bose sound bar and that's pretty loud usuallyThe menu isnt high resolution which bothers me alot, as its displayed on a 65" TV which pin points every detail possible and when you see pixelated lettering etc it's not goodPicture quality on the other hand, mind blowing 4k films look awesome blu Ray's look awesome definitely no issues there, I dont use the apps on the system itself as the TV has all I need but it's good if you dont have a smart enabled TV you get plenty of featuresAlso has 3d ...not a feature I need in my life and probably not many others need eitherMy old Sony was very slow to boot up a film from a cold start, this is almost instantly on and films load quick Lacks optical audio, instead runs a digital out not sure why that was prioritised over optical for the money I'd if thought it wouldve been, does have a hdmi audio output though

I bought this having read good reviews, and, having bought an ATMOS receiver, decided to take the plunge on 4k UHD, picked out some bargain 4k discs and this the cheapest Sony, as I'd previously had an S7200, which had been pretty good too.Set up is a doddle, and I was soon enjoying the higher res of 4k video, and full fat 7.2.4 atmos with Nolan's Dunkirk, which while not atmos mixed, I found Sound and Vision, both superb, my old blu ray, an. Oppo 83SE, costing a hell of a lot more, was brilliant, and I didn't expect too much from this Sony, but for the money, it's a cracker. I then tried a couple of Dolby trailers downloaded to a flash drive, and was very impressed. I've played a couple of SACDs,and, again been very impressed crisp, accurate with authority across all frequencies. It is a bargain, it may lose out against the Pioneer or Oppo, but at a fraction of the cost, it represents greater value for money. Recommended without any hesitation!Read full review...

Bought this a few weeks ago with the updated firmware that supports Dolby Vision. Overall great image quality. The set is a bit basic in bulid and much smaller that the UBP-X800 with no digital display or screen on the set. However one huge advatange is that with a firmware update it supports Dolby Vision. This is, however SEVERELY hampered - unfortunately, the unit does not auto-switch when you play a Dolby Vision disc which means that a) the switching has to be done manually from the menu and b) if you don’t know a disc has Dolby Vision and you don't therefore activate it in the menu, you miss out on the benefits (it can be quite difficult to see on Blu Ray discs whether a Dolby Vision signal is included)Sony - this could be an excellent product...please come up with a firmware update that auto-switches Dolby Vision on when it detects a Dolby Vision signal!!

Bought this player as it was Dolby Vision compatible and because I had read good reviews in the press. The picture quality is first class and the player runs very quietly, as opposed to some reviews I have read. I have connected the player using Ethernet for the smart features and have had no problem connecting to the internet. My only gripe is that there is no way I can add my own apps and I am restricted to the ones that Sony have supplied. Sound quality is good and I connect the player to a soundbar via the HDMI 2 audio output. I can’t comment on the quality of the hi res audio but am planning on buying some SACD discs to try out. This Sony delivers a cracking picture and great sound but in my opinion is let down by the so called smart features. Would have been 5 stars if the smart features were better.

I bought this as an upgrade to a consul with 4K. This is stunning, the picture is just brilliant, very rich colours, superb detail and magnificent sound. It loads very fast, it runs very quietly which could have been a bug bear. Simple to set up, I advise a straight forward set up as they give options for everything. Once used to the machine then by all means muck about with the settings. I had to tweak the sound for example. The remote is small but who needs a half brick. The unit is small and neat, and fits in just perfectly. I would advise to consider this, enough said, oh, one more thing, you must have a 4K tv or otherwise known as UHD.

What a player! Absolutely superb :-D.Has some excellent features, and a LOT of advantages over other players, especially the sound quality... Hook this up to an amp, and you’ll definitely hear what I mean ;-).Does EVERYTHING I need it to, and does it VERY well ;-).Little tip: If you’re having issues with A/V sync on digital content, Amazon Prime etc., try disabling Dolby Vision, and this should solve your problems ;-). However, I would definitely recommend leaving Dolby Vision on when playing Blu-Ray discs, makes a BIG difference ;-).Worth EVERY penny! :-D

I was a bit skeptical to buy this player after reading reviews of 4k movies freezing but I didn't come across any such issues. Quite compact, easy to use and no issues with the quality of movies. Tested on 4K bluray as well as 1080p bluray movies. Tried playing 4k youtube videos and there were issues where the screen would freeze and I can hear audio. Upscaling is not great compared to my Sony XF9005 TV when I tested watching a movie via Plex. I decided to use it only for bluray movies. If dolby vision is important I would suggest you buy this or X800 would do.

Bought so we don't have to use a PS3 for DVD/Bluray playback, this is a big improvement. Vastly better for visual and audio quality, boot up and disc loading is very quick, plus its very quiet in use, far quieter than the PS3. Online access to BBC iPlayer, etc., is easy to use but sadly does not include All4 access, shame and why not. The remote control works with our Sony TV too, a bonus. Not the cheapest player, nor the most expensive, but well worth the extra money over cheaper inferior models. Its a Which? best buy, rightly so.

I purchased this to replace my BPD-s5200 Blu-ray player. It's unsurprisingly a slightly more advanced device, but effortless to learn. Its apps run much more quickly. The main menu screen is more intelligently designed so there is less need to hit the arrow keys. So far I've not suffered the nuisance loud vibration experienced with the BDP-s5200 on certain films. I withheld one star because it's an ugly-looking beast, boring and black like some hardback book bereft its dust-jacket. But overall it performs very well, if overpriced.

I got this unit after doing much research on the Internet. As well as wanting a 2018 model I wanted a player which had dolby vision as my uhd TV supports it, and although this isn't currently available on this unit it has been promised by Sony in a near future firmware update. The unit looks nice and sleek, was easy to set up, has nice quiet smooth disc draw and the unit operates nice and quiet. The picture and sound whilst playing 4k bluray is Jaw dropping! Beautiful picture and perfect sound.

I bought this two weeks ago and set it up expecting to update the firmware for Dolby Vision but It was already uploaded.I had to follow the instructions to set it up to get the correct sound from my Onkyo Amp i.e. Disable the Arc to the Tv .This then enables the tv to show HDR or D.V .So no need to go out and buy a new amp just remember to use both hdmi inputs on the back if you are using an Amplifiler for home cinema surround sound. For the money it is the best on the market at the moment.

Finally Sony updated this player with Dolby Vision. While it looks amazing and the price/value of it is great, Sony dropped the ball by making the update be either forced or not forced at all. Meaning of you turn on Dolby Vision it will stay on even if you're watching a DVD. If you turn it off, discs that have Dolby Vision will not playback in Dolby Vision. Same goes for Netflix, Amazon etc. But for the price it's a great player and has much more features and benefits than those of LG UPK90

I've just had this player a week so only have first impressions. It worked straight from the box and only setup apart from connections was to input wifi password and put batteries into the remote. I've chiefly used it for playing 4k films from You Tube and playing films from my local pc network. Both these tasks were carried out well. I must admit I haven't tried a disc yet (a bit of an overisght!). I recommend this player, though I did find it's quite a bit cheaper in Europe
