The 4K revolution in home viewing keeps threatening to take off – sales of the discs are still a bit sluggish, but there is more and more 4K content, and finally there are more UHD 4k Bluray players appearing in the market. So where does this one fit in?Well, it’s a no frills, budget entry – though low budget in 4K player land is relative. No apps, no Netflix, no wifi internet, only wired.. but sets its stall to being a good player. To look at, it’s a matt black monolith.. not unappealing, but not particularly inspiring either. To use, I’m happy to say is extremely easy.. LG haven’t always been highest in my book for ease of use, but this was plug and play for me with no issues, and the remote and menu were pretty self explanatory. On switching on there are a few questions on your language and wifi and then you’re off. Discs start faster than I expected, I remember early bluray players could take a while to get whirring.I tried this out with a 4K disc of Bladerunner 20149 and Terminator Genisys. Both had real wow factor, particularly Bladerunner – the colour range popped and the shades of black were deep. I had no sensation of pixelated gradating through the shadows of black, and movement was extremely smooth. If I had a niggle, it is with the remote control. My other devices are all in the same space, and work fine – with this one, I found I had to get up – wave directly at the machine and do some contortions to get it to work. Perhaps its underpowered, only has one AAA battery – a small thing, but a bit irritating. Also bear in mind if you plan to connect this to a more complicated system, and need multiple outputs, this is a very simple model with one HDMI and optical output. Should be enough for most though. The menu screens and blank screen are uninspiring but this is not a big turn off for me – what matters is how it plays – and I think it did that well.In short, this really worked for me – and I have to say this is a sensible entry into 4K players – most 4K TV’s are high end enough that they will have all the Smart TV features you need without having them on your bluray player.. having a straight player that focusses on doing that well makes sense. The player also upscales, but I cant say I really was aware of much difference.. no doubt real cineastes would spot the difference.

I have been really impressed with this 4K Ultra HDR Blu-ray player from LG over the last few days. It's a no-frills model, that's true, but why do you need all kinds of built-in streaming services if you have a smart TV in the first place. I have just watched Eric Clapton's recent blu-ray, "A life in 12 bars" and was wowed by both the video and sonic performance of this player, as it upscaled to 4K - I had it hooked up (via HDMI), connected via my Yamaha RX-V483 amp to a Dell 4K monitor and KEF Egg speakers. The unit is pretty bland to look at, a minimalistic black rectangular box (no visual display) but it does have raised tactile buttons on the front panel to eject, play, stop and power off as well as USB socket. Round the back, you have an HDMI, Ethernet and optical connectors - that's it. You also get a compact remote control with a battery included. On-screen menus are okay and do the job but overall, it has a performance that belies it's price point, in my opinion. I also have a Sony UBP-X800 (last year's gold standard in ultra 4K blu-ray players - and this does have all the streaming services as well) and, again IMO, this LG certainly comes close to the Sony UBP-X800 in a few areas. If you want a 4K blu-ray player this is a great entry point - remember you do need a 4K screen and pair it with a good 4K pass-through av amp and decent speakers and I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised.

Delighted with product - so very easy to set up and a delight to use.One large "minus" for me though is in Amazon's product information on the website - it gives the impression that a remote control handset is NOT included in the box and whilst ordering the device I felt obliged to order a remote control separately. I checked and rechecked my own understanding of the specification and 3 friends agreed that - surprisingly - no remote was included in the box. When the blu-Ray player arrived yesterday I was therefore somewhat shocked to find a remote control and battery in the box !! The separate remote is still in transit and once received I'll simply go through the "Returns" procedures. In shorttop marks to LG for the product but to Amazon - some specification clarification needed !!

When I say it was just what I was looking for: a player that would play blu-ray discs and dvd's, WITHOUT WiFi. I had bought another brand blu-ray player couple years ago, didn't really want WiFi, but seems like all the decent players had it, so I got it. I don't know if the wifi part worked or not, didn't try. But after a year or so, it quit playing any disc I put in. So this time I found a review of bluray players that included comparisons...which one had which features, and found this one. I DO have a 4K smart TV, which is why I didn't need wifi on the player.Anyway, it plays all my discs, which is all I need it to do. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Excellent budget DVD player for the money with stunning quality when copuple with 65inch LG oled TV. Watching UHD wide dynamic range blue rays of planet earth is a real joy and the main reason for the purchase. Connnection was simple BUT beware in case you have the same issue I had...the TV failed to recognise the UHD blue ray correctly initially and I nearly sent the player back. HOwever the problem was a subtle one in that the HDMI lead was too long. (About 10ft) the signal gets corrupted Andy out of sink of this distance Andy a shorter lead instantly fixed the issue. Overall very happy with this basic player and the quality with an OLED TV.

What really pleases me is the simplicity and practicality of this unit. It's all very well having a marvellous Ultra HD player that you can't really use. I would rather have a slightly more straightforward one that just does the business. That's what we have here.Even then it is really only the sound that is less than ideal, and by that all I mean is that it's not audiophile quality. Everything else seems great to me. However I do not have a giant TV which may. I suppose, reveal faults I cannot see.Note that the unit comes with just a power cable; there are no connectors. So you need to separately buy a decent HDMI cable.

The sound and picture quality of 4k is such a nominal advance upon HD that the human eye can't actually resolve the extended resolution on a domestic TV set: the visual cortex quickly adapts to what it is seeing and normalises it. So apart from enhancements to colour saturation, especially in greens and yellows, you might be disappointed by whatever the hype has led you to believe. That aside, this box of electronics does everything it says on the box to the standard to you expect from LG (middle market lifestyle) and can therefore not really be faulted. It'll last until the next unnecessary TV format change happens.

This 4K uhd is a brilliant dvd. It arrived on time and well packed. This unit is easy to use and I didn’t really need the manual. The picture is clear crisp and well defined and the sound through my external amplifier is just fantastic. The unit has HDR10 which produces brilliant colours on a uhd LG tv screen. For the price I wholeheartedly recommend this UHD 4K player. All the reviews on different web sites also agree this is a great player. A couple of reviewers said the player was noisy but I have found this not to be the case. I give this player a strong five stars.

Set up easily in 5 minutes. Very simple.Removed the old 2012 Sony BDP S790 blu ray player & replaced with the LG UBK80. Out/In.Straight away on viewing there’s a difference. A gulf. The sound is much better & the image is also much better. Excellent detail.Start up is fast. At least twice the speed as the Sony.No noise issues. A lot of reviews mention disc noise. I’ve played several discs without issue.I’ve no need for WiFi or features. Just needed a good player. This is a very good player at a very good price.Does the job very well.

Stellar deal for the features! My 55" 4K LG TV already had all the apps I needed and I didn't need to use them on the Blu-Ray player. So I saved a ton of money with this 4K LG Blu-Ray player that didn't have those features. At first I thought it would just be bare bones, but it plays HDR, and 3D Blu-Rays. My favorite part though is the USB support. FLAC compatible for lossless audio output - UNPARALLELED! Mpeg4 video, MKV, XVID, Mp3, 3GP, AVCHD, FLV, MOV, backed up movie TS files! EVERYTHING! Bravo you guys! Keep setting the bar! Cheers!

This player is a good value for its price. It doesn't have top-of-the-line features like Dolby Vision, etc., but then it doesn't have a top-of-the-line price and doesn't require the most advanced audio/video equipment to enjoy it. It handles your Blu-rays in a pleasing, workman-like manner. The remote is small and can be a bit difficult if you have large fingers, but it's fully functional. An appreciably better player will cost much more than this one which handles everything just fine for me, so I'm quite satisfied with it.

What can you say about this 4k player, well its cheap that's for sure and yes you can tell when you start the unit up.No real menu to speak of you can change some basic options. But all you are presented with unless there is a disc in the machine is a white screen no icons no pictures nothing, actually thought it was faulty to begin with. But that aside it plays 4k discs picture quality is good unfortunatly occasionally the sound and picture become out of sync by a second or two which can be very off putting

Ultra high definition Blu ray, perfect as long as you don't use the Belkin F3Y021BT5M HDMI cables sold on here for it, they don't work as they are too long at 5M due to signal degradation, even says so in the instructions. The software operating system looks dated. But I have to say.... it shows a cracking picture, assuming you use an Ultra high definition blu ray disk, and an appropriate high definition high speed HDMI cable. I went and bought a 2M cable, and it then worked perfectly.

Great picture and sound quality.. Great price (£89 paid)This unit routes to my LG OLED TV via a home cinema receiver.Picture & sound quality is truly great, both being routed to my Onkyo receiver via HDMI, with picture directed to the 55" OLED screen and Sound processed by the Onkyo, correctly identifying the relevant encoding process for the surround sound.Just wish there were more 4K blu-ray discs that match my taste in movies and music concerts etc.

This is the first Blu ray /dvd player I have had what can I say! It does everything they say it does, it plays every kind of disc cd, dvd etc.I think the best feature is it’s ability to up- scale, it plays older dvd’s with a load more clarity , sound and picture quality than my previous dvd player. I’m very pleased with it and there’s good interaction between my LG tv with the remote controls etc.. If you’re thinking of buying one! Go for it!
