Previously I owned a Canon 5D Mkii but a few years ago I was persuaded by my wife that the bulky 5D and its accompanying lenses was not the camera to take on a long weekend trip to Amsterdam. As a result I bought a Sony A6000 for the trip and was so impressed that I replaced my 5D with a Sony A6500 that I have owned since it was first released. However, brilliant though the A6500 is (speed of focus, rapid shooting rate [11fps], small, lightweight etc.), I have come to miss the full frame capabilities of the 5D.I have just purchased this used Sony A7r Mkii and am very pleased with my choice. The full frame 42 megapixel sensor is a delight, both in the additional ability it provides to substantially crop images and the way it handles noise in low light situations. Is it easy to use? Well…yes if you are an experienced photographer or you are familiar with the quirky Sony menu system. This camera is not for a beginner though but then why would a beginner spend a considerable sum to buy a top end, pro/semi-pro camera? That said, this camera was such a bargain. I paid just under £900 for it, in immaculate condition, with under 2500 actuations; a camera that when first released would have cost the best part of £3k.Admittedly Sony are now on the 4th incarnation of the A7r but for my purposes (mainly landscape and portrait) the facilities that this camera provides at the price, represents incredible value for money.Add to this its compatibility with non-native lenses (with appropriate adapter) retaining access to all the Sony focusing electronics (I believe) then its a bit of a no brainer for those thinking of switching to the Sony mirrorless system. I will be keeping my A6500, though, for those very rare occasions when I will need its superior rapid shooting rate. (The A7rII is only 5fps).In conclusion I can honestly say that this is the best camera I have ever owned (and I’ve owned a few!)Read full review...

This camera won't make you into a better photographer, however... if you want to take your photo skills to the next level, this might be a tool for you. Coming from the original A7 with a kit lens, bought my first 35mm prime after 2 years getting good feedback from my clients and friends. I realized that I was looking for a portrait, architecture, landscape, street -oriented camera. Yes, I do video on occasion, but never ever to the extend that I started looking for the S-series or a GH4/5 as my next body.On the plus side, especially compared to the original A7, amazing dynamic depth, lots of pixels, better physical size and body materials. The AF is just amazing(!) and when using native glass,it's really, really fast. I got the 35,24-70,70-200 native glass and a Samyang 14mm FE, and the body matches their performance great. Also on the plus side, the A7's in general can take a beating, no need for white gloves or worrying if you happen to bump things while in transit or on a shoot. On the negative side, you'll be burning through batteries like there is no tomorrow, but they don't take up much space when on the go, so no real problem. I usually spend about 2 batteries on a typical 700 exposure wedding shoot. Could have used a second card slot for backup, but so far never lost a card in-camera (fingers crossed). The native glass is still a bit to expensive compared to Nikon, Canon and the rest, but still, the Zeiss lenses are really performers.Read full review...

I bought this camera for its video features, but I shoot a lot of stills also. Video features are great compared to Canon cameras in the same price range. Image quality, features and design of the camera is also very good. Focus peaking is extremely useful, especially as I was used to shoot with manual focus a lot. Custom buttons are great and I got used to menu after 3 days of use. RAW files are heavy, but good for post production. Only negativity is battery life (get more than 4 batteries or some external battery solution), another thing is expensive lenses (remember you are buying camera system, not body itself), but I hope Sigma will start with manufacture full frame lenses same as they do for Canon or Nikon within the year (my dream).I didn`t have overheating issues so far, but I didn`t record over 20 minutes so far.Besides that, I recommend this camera to everybody who takes their photography or cinematography seriously and want an overall capable camera.Read full review...

Outstanding camera, with tack sharp sensor! I'm using it paired with Sony FE 90mm Macros Lens with staggering results. I would say that the camera is extremely easy to use, but I have been using for the past years the A6000, therefore I'm very familiar with the Menu. Don't be afraid of the complex Menu! There are several very good tutorials on Youtube where you could learn to navigate through the Menu. If you hold the lenses for Sony APS-C Sensor - No Problem! You could set the camera on Auto, and the camera will switch automatic from Full Frame Lens to APS-C lens, bearing in mind that the picture will be only 18M Pixels! If you are a RAW shooter, No Problem! If you are video shooter the camera have 4K capabilities!Everything You Need! Not to forget, the camera was coming with the latest firmware 3.30!Read full review...

This is a fantastic camera for landscape and portrait photography the megapicel count allows you to crop in on your subject so the detail is still there in post. not to sure for sport though with the burst rate but I use my a7iii for fast action also the low light is very good on the a7rii,this is more camera than say 95 percent of photographer's will ever need ,this was when it first came out a 3000 pound camera and at the price I paid at just over a thousand pound makes it a bargain just because the a7riii is out does not make this a bad camera it really does take fantastic pictures you only have to look on YouTube to see for yourself highly recommend

Full frame mirrorless 42 mp camera which is smaller and lighter than a dslr, has 5-axis in-body stabilisation using both phase and contrast focus points.I got all this new and unused for less than £1K. Battery life could be longerbut carrying a couple of spares is no problem. Single SDXC slot but just getting a large capacity card solves the problem (unless the card fails) but that has never happened to me and I'm only an amateur anyway so it's not life or death. Back screen not fully retractable but I only use the camera for stills so no problem.

I had a great experience with this online purchase. Good communication since the order was placed and it came several days ahead of schedule! The product has been nothing short of amazing. This camera makes me want to go out and shoot even more than before. Coming from a crop-sensor DSLR, the A7RII has been fantastic to work with and I can feel that I'll be using it for a long time. It's packed with resolution, image quality and features that I'm eager to use every day in almost any situation.

I’m gritting my teeth , determined to cope with the design. I’m not a big fan of thumbwheels and endless choices and buttons and dials splattered all over almost at random. But it allows me to use my legacy lenses and shoot 4K and get high quality images. In my fantasy world I’d like the design of the Fuji XT2 mapped onto the capabilities of the Sony.

After nearly 30 years a an enthusiast photographer using many film and digital cameras. I have yet to discover a better value for money camera with such stunning image quality. Its quality results especially in landscape photography. Makes this a highly recommended camera. Beats other cameras in class on size and weight etc.

Although not top of the line anymore this camera is still very, very capable. It works okay with my Canon glass but Sony lenses? well, I would have to sell a kidney or some other body part. Overall fun to use with a great sensor with lots of detail.

Swapping from canon, it feels less professional, and yes the menu system is a pain. But I always seem to be searching canons menus as well. 80/40mb un/compressed raw files are also a pain. No smaller size raw options as with canon.

Used many cameras and best lenses: d810, xt1, xt2, xpro2, etc. A7r2 - most pleasant to use, best files, best lenses, IBIS, etc. The price paid is really good. Tronix camera shop 100% recommended.

A great camera - I particularly wanted the 42mpx full frame sensor and the 5-axis stabilisation. I bonus is that the stabilisation works with legacy lenses (with adaptor).

10.5.2018

I have yet to test all it's potential but the camera so far, is very easy to use, twice the resolution and facilities of my old DSLR and only half the weight.

6.3.2018

it is new "Leica" standard , trans photo and video camera in one body.
