_______________________________MAIN HIGHLIGHTSThe E-M10ii and its big brother the E-M5ii have a lot of features that just don't exist in many other cameras. For me, the main highlights of the former are:1. the 5-axis in-body image stabilizationThis works by moving the sensor instead of elements inside the lens. The results are amazing. It is the best stabilization I've seen among DSLRs or mirrorless cameras, allowing you to shoot at incredibly low shutter speeds without a tripod.2. livebulb recordingThis allows you to see a long exposure developing on the LCD as it is being recorded so that you can stop it when you think it's exposed properly. A really clever idea.3.electronic shutterYou can set the camera to use an electronic shutter like what it uses while shooting video instead of a physical one. This allows you to shoot in almost complete silence. This is very useful for wedding ceremonies, on film sets, and at any other time you want to avoid making a lot of sound while taking photographs. The E-M5ii also has each of these features but in addition, has a high res shot feature which combines multiple shots into a single 40 mp resolution image by shifting the sensor very precisely to pick up light in between its pixel detectors. This is a very clever feature, but because it requires multiple shots to be taken, it's only really suitable for scenes where nothing at all in the frame is moving, which excludes most photographic subjects._______________________________VIDEOI'm very impressed with the quality of the video on the E-M10ii especially when recording with the All-Intra codec. It also has some great video features like focus peaking and the ability to see when highlights and shadows are clipping, which when coupled with the image stabilization and small body make it a great tool for capturing video on the move.It does all the normal video frame rates: 24 fps, 25 fps and 30 fps, as well as higher frame rates up to 60 fps at 1080p which is useful for shooting slow motion.Because the resolution of each frame of 1080p video is only 2 megapixels and the camera's sensor is 16 megapixels, it is like most DSLRs and mirrorless cameras in that it has to downsample the image to record video. Unlike the E-M10ii, the E-M5ii has an added ability to capture just the center region of the sensor which gives you a tightly zoomed view of your subject without having to do any downsampling. This is actually a higher quality image because a side effect of the method this camera uses to do the downsampling is moire patterns that sometimes appear on subjects that have fine lines (stripes on clothing, brickwork, etc.). You can switch between these two views easily, even while recording, to seamlessly shift between a wide shot and a close-up.Another feature that exists in the E-M5ii and not the E-M10ii is the ability to record video with a flat picture profile, which provides greater flexibility when color grading in post. Otherwise, the video features and quality are very similar between these two cameras._______________________________IMAGE QUALITYI love the skin tones and the image quality in general. There are some weaknesses worth mentioning though. I don't think it handles image noise very well above ISO 1600 and the dynamic range isn't as good as the Nikons I usually shoot with. Having said that, I see no difference at all between the image quality on the E-M10ii and the E-M5ii.I got the E-M10ii with the 14-42 mm kit lens. This lens is a very small (almost a pancake lens) so the whole camera can still fit in a small bag or large jacket pocket. The lens also has a power zoom function, which seems a bit unnecessary to me._______________________________HANDLINGLike the E-M5ii, the E-M10ii is extremely customizable. You can change the functions assigned to virtually every single button to set it up exactly the way you want it. This is great, but there are a few quirks. For instance, some functions like manual white balance don't stay assigned to a button when in video mode.Another nice feature is the tiltable touch screen. The touch screen allows you to alter exposure settings silently so that the inbuilt microphone is less likely to pick up handling noise while recording video. Using the touch screen can be slow though because you have to go through menus. Unfortunately you don't seem to be able to use the regular controls to adjust exposure settings while it's recording video if you want to do it the faster but noisier way, and you can't flip the screen around to view it while filming yourself in the way you can with the E-M5ii. The screen on the E-M10ii only tilts up and down.In addition to the LCD on the back, you can also use the electronic view finder. This doesn't have any noticeable lag to it, which is good, but as someone who is used to shooting with DSLRs, I do miss having an optical view finder with all the dynamic range that entails._______________________________SUMMARYConsidering how much cheaper the E-M10ii is compared to the E-M5ii, they are surprisingly similar cameras in terms of features and image quality. The E-M5ii is certainly a better camera, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the E-M10ii for those on a tighter budget.

I'm no expert photographer and therefore will not make any attempt to try and compare this with a whole range of potential options. In my opinion, once you have decided to spend quite a bit of cash on a piece of technology, all of the basics are a given. The photos will be no issue in terms of technical properties, the lens etc will be more than adequate. It is a long time since I used my Nikon but one thing most people would agree is that you can get a sense of quality build just by inspection and feel of the device. This one is no exception - with one comment against the build. First the positives. I has a very professional build, full of features and an endless set of options. It really is good.Customisable buttons and a great monitor with on screen help to make sure you know what you are doing or checking on what you think the option is going to do. It comes with a very brief manual that really isn't a great deal of use but after some digging I found the one online See http://download.aws.olympus.eu/consumer/manuals/cameras/E-M10_Mark_III_MANUAL_EN.pdfI'd recommend looking at this first before purchase. There are 170 pages in this and it is the English version, there is that much to say about the camera. In the box you get a charger for the battery, a strap (good quality too), USB cables and two input cables for the charger. What is missing is a case. Personally I think this is poor. When I bought some Olympus binoculars recently for a fraction of the cost of this item, there was a case. The omission of this is bad customer care in my opinion. The one thing about the camera I don't like is a common one on much tech gear and that is the cover for the HDMI and USB connections. It seems as if every time you want to put in a cable, there is a risk of snapping off the cover. I wonder why they don't use a proper latch like they do for the battery and SD card slot that is on the bottom? There are mini connectors in use of course and these can be fiddly at the best of times.I downloaded the software to do a firmware update. This worked first time without issue which while seeming an obvious achievement, is not always smooth these days. No firmware was needed as it turned out. You don't download the file, it checks on line and then fetches it if needed.I also had no trouble installing the companion app on my phone and connecting to the camera's Wifi. However, the instructions in the manual weren't right. The simplest way for this is to touch the Wifi icon on the monitor of the camera. This gives you a QR code to scan on your phone and off you go.That's it. This appears to do everything it says it will and do it well. Great professional appeal but like all sorts of tech, people tend to have their own personal favourite brands which skew comparisons in many cases. However, as someone without that loyalty, I'd say this is a great item but no doubt there is plenty of choice.

This is my first dive into the realms of serious digital photography and after a lot of research and nail-biting decision making, I am delighted that I went with this camera. The camera body itself is compact, robust and looks great. There are so many great features packed into it that I shall only touch on my favourites for the sake of this review. The first point I would address is the menus, as this was one of the key gripes I noticed in reviews when I was researching what to buy. Some people were saying that they found the menus overly complex. As I mentioned, there are a lot of features packed into this camera and, as a result the main menus are extensive. If, like me,you are willing to invest a bit of time in reading the manual, googling and playing about with it, you will soon have most of it under your belt; until you're willing to venture out of the full auto mode, half of the features and settings won't need to even be considered anyway! On top of this, olympus has designed several quick access features to ensure all the essentials are at the touch of a button - there is an easily accessible super control panel and three physical buttons on the camera that you can program with your preferred features. On top of this, there is a facility to save custom setting profiles, if you have a specific combination of settings you are likely to frequently use.Another feature I find really useful on this camera is the built in WiFi - not only is it so easy to transfer pictures straight across to your mobile, it also gives you full remote control of your camera, including live preview. This will be a big win for all you selfie lovers, as well as providing a great way to take a picture when you want to completely negate camera shake.Another feature that makes my top list is the in-camera anti shake technology which makes handheld photography a pleasure. It's very effective and also highly configurable, depending on your situation and what you are trying to do.Battery life is much better than I was expecting, having read a lot about how mirrorless cameras eat through battery. I bought two spares (they aren't too expensive) but have yet to need more than one change on a day out with the camera. The included tele lens is great value for money if you buy the bundle - it's compact, great quality pics and alongside the great kit lens, you won't need anything more for the first few months at least (unless you are a spending addict like me and end up buying a wide angle or something!).There's loads more I could say but in essence, this is a fantastic camera for the cost and you can have so much fun with it and get some great results.

The Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III is a great camera for travel and holidays as it’s small and lightweight so can easily be thrown into a bag. It has a cool retro look and a nice, refined grip that feels comfortable and secure in the hand. I would recommend this camera for those looking for something between a basic digital camera and a more technical DSLR.Although it is considered an entry-level mirrorless camera, it packs in plenty to play with so there is definitely room to develop your skills, while still being user friendly. There are four shooting modes to choose from, including the Advanced Shooting mode, which provides more scope for creativity.I’ve had particular fun playing with multi exposure; overlapping two pictures to produce more abstract photos. The Art Filters mode won't displace your Photoshop software, but the instant Instagram-like effects and built-in Wi-Fi allow for quick and easy sharing of pictures so you don’t have to wait until you get home. Within these modes you can also create shortcuts with preferred settings; this proved handy when I was trying to quickly capture a panoramic sunset. In terms of practicality, the tilting LCD screen is a particularly useful feature for shooting tricky angles. It is also touchscreen, which I find convenient for changing the focus of the picture without fiddling with buttons. The video quality is as good as expected from a 4K camera. You would think walking and recording could be problematic but I found the footage to be amazingly smooth and crisp thanks to the very good image stabilisation which reduces blur and shake. In general this compact interchangeable lens camera is accessible yet full of functions to keep you occupied. On the downside, buying a host of lenses for the camera can be very pricey, and the zoom only allows 1x or 2x and nothing in between which is limiting. The viewfinder makes for more pleasant shooting although that’s not to say it is a DSLR replacement. Overall this is a versatile camera; perfect for dabbling into more advanced photography but also ideal when on the go as you can snap, edit and upload there and then.

My back told me I needed to swap to a lighter camera system - I have carried two Canon EOS (latterly 7D and 5D) bodies and 'L' series lenses around for years. I now have a pair of OM-D M10 MkIIs, one with the kit pancake lens the other with a 9-18mm on the front to cover essentially the same focal lengths as per my EF canon lenses. Two cameras is due to me needing to swap quickly between different types of shot and not risk a lens change in less than ideal conditions plus back-up if one body / lens fails. Bad points are slow burst rates which would be a pain for action shots if I took them and the LCD being hard to see in bright light. The EVF is good for framing but not 'realistic'and of course the camera needs to be 'on' for it to work, unlike a DSLR. I have not mentioned the most important point, image quality, simply because it is absolutely fine for me. I cannot tell if an image has been taken by my DSLRs or these bodies on my iMac 27in with retina display. I also get more keepers, the ability of these little cameras to work in less than ideal conditions needing less effort. Further, I find the JPEGs to be so good I have stopped bothering with RAW. I have used RAW for years but with these bodies I have found the in-camera processing to be excellent - and my version of LR does not support the MkIIs .ORF files! The key is to use the best settings and ensure you set the JPEG to super fine, check the ISO and look to see how the sensor 'sees' the image before assuming you have the correct shutter and aperture settings. I have now sold my Canon gear and that 'paid' for these two bodies and another long lens that came as part of the two lens kit I initially purchased. I tried the M5 MkII as well - bit meatier and weather sealed to a degree - but to benefit from sealing you need to go for the PRO series lenses so I bought the insurance of a back up body instead. I am happy with my choice but look at Panasonic as well. They may suit you better. I went OM as my first SLR was an OM10 back in the early 80s and these bodies remind me of some happy days.

I own this camera for more than a year and I'm still in love.It is a beautiful camera with pro level functionality and options that I am still learning after extensive use.Stills and Video are excellent even in low light. I have no problem to push ISO to 3200-4000 (I never tried more) and the result are more than acceptable. With the 14-42 EZ kit lens the camera is perfect for portability and a perfect companion for urban or nature trips.I can also use my old 70-300 lens using a low cost Chinese adapter and once you learn how to overcome the slow focus (use pre-focus) the results are better than with my old e-520.I have an old M-42 manual lens which is now fun to use with the focus peaking and magnification focus aid.One of the most useful features of this camera is the "my settings".I have a dedicated mode for each of my lenses and it makes life much easier.I also like the "Dramatic Tones" art filter - in the right lightning and in cloudy days it may yield stunning photos - see the attached picture. The only problem I have is the short battery life. I have 2 batteries and a USB charger, otherwise it is difficult to complete a whole day of photographing.I also had a problem with the touch screen - although I disabled the selection of focus point, when I use the EVF my nose sometimes move the focus point from the one I wanted. Recently I learned how to solve it - use the EVF and double click the touch screen - it will disable the focus point selection. To summarize, I really recommend it (and probably it's successor - the mark III although I didn't have a chance to use it). It has one of the best price performance ratio in the market and I never felt that I did any compromise choosing it over the Sony or Fuji.

I've bought this for recording the first few years of our first child. We needed a high quality camera that was small enough that we would actually like to carry with us.Firstly a word of WARNING: If you want the 14-42mm lens make sure you get the camera with the EZ lens (like this one). We got caught out when we bought from another retailer who was selling the kit with a cheaper and fatter 14-42mm non-EZ lens and had to return it.Once we got the right kit, the camera has been amazing. It is easy to take simple snaps and the quality is fantastic. You must at this point have read some of the reviews of these cameras and know about the highly regarded image stabilization. It really is amazing!Videos taken by hand look like they are on a trolley, its really cool. One thing I love about this camera is that the flash does not pop up automatically (although you can probably change a setting for it). That was always a pain when i was using my EOS 400D.There are a lot of settings on this camera. I usually pride myself in changing every little configurable detail on my devices and on this I feel after 3 weeks like I've barely scraped the surface!Art modes are fun, and the scene modes can be quite useful and very easy to use. Of course all the settings are there if you want to do anything manually. Finally the ability to send photos directly to your phone is very useful. It takes some tweaking on Android to stop auto-disconnect when the phone decides there is no internet. Once this is done the app works well and you can control the camera (and see what it is looking at) straight from your phone.

What a fantastic little camera system!Coming from a "full size" (= weighs a ton) DSLR, this is a compact, lightweight system you can take anywhere and means you will take more pics,The features on the camera are massive, although you do need to learn them to make the best use of them. The camera is in the style of the original 35mm OM1 film camera, so gives a warming hint of "retro" appeal. The kit was a great price, so I made the move into Micro Four Thirds - glad I did.The standard pancake lens is not the sharpest in the world, but is really useful and compact, so will get a lot of use. The tele-zoom covers a great range (40-150) so complements the pancake lens well, is lightweight and the image quality is excelent,a really good value lens.So in this kit you get 35mm eqivalent focal length range of 28 to 300mm.Image quality is good enough to make decent sized prints, A4, A3 or larger. There is a large range of other lenses available for this system, so you can get a lens to cover your every requirement. The Olympus editing software is really good, so you can perfect your images in raw or shoot jpgs or both at the same time.As the camera is so compact, some of the buttons need careful operation if you have sausage fingers, but it is something you get used to.There is loads of stuff in internet land about MFT vs APS-C/full frame etc. so you need to make your mind up about that one - I won't go there.Overall though, I'm looking forward to getting a lot of use out of this great little system.Highly recommended!

I bought this camera recently as I wanted a small camera with the characteristics of an SLR without the weight. I already have a Fuji X100T and I love it but I still wanted the flexibility of interchangeable lenses. Couple this with the fact that I have a Panasonic G3 and Micro Four Thirds Lenses (sorry I should have said 'Had' a Panasonic G3, my wife has now swiped that for herself) and it seemed only natural that I should get the new Olympus body and make use of the Pany lenses. I don't want to get technical here but, OMG, this little camera is beautiful! Just to hold it in the palm of your hand make you drool, it is just so pretty! I slapped on my 14-42mm Panasonic lens and went out to give it a try and it performed just as I hoped it would, perfectly! Since then I have bought an Olympus f1.8 45mm prime, an Olympus f1.8 17mm prime and a Samyang 7.5 fisheye lens and the little camera has accepted them all with good grace and the photographs have demonstrated the quality of lens and camera to be excellent. My expertise as a photographer is of course cr** but there you go! There is one mini gripe I have and that is with the tilting rear screen, which though nice would have been much better if it had been fully articulated. Don't let that put you off though, it really is a great little camera with it's retro styling and qualiity feel and a great choice of Micro Four Thirds lenses. I should also mention I call her Betty (yes she is a girl!) 'cos she's better than my other cameras!!!

Purchased after considering many alternatives and really pleased with everything about this camera. Build quality is excellent (metal body), it is easy to use with loads of creative options. There are so many menu possibilities that I expect it will take a good few weeks/years to explore and get the full benefit. It is really difficult to say that it will suit everybody though as there are so many personal preferences to take account of. I was influenced by the compact body size (with standard pancake lens) and the extensive feature list. Also so many strong recommendations across review sites. This is one of the very few purchases that I can say exceeds expectation.Added to this,Olympus is a camera company (they don't do vacuum cleaners and TVs)so when you need to discuss anything you are put in touch with people who know about the product. I have had excellent pre sales and subsequent help from Olympus UK. They provide free online tutorials and if you sign-up on line you get an extra 6 months warranty on top of the standard 2 years. Think about that when comparing with Sony and Panasonic (as well as what others have said about their customer experience issues when dealing with these companies). It was a bit of bonus to find that I can even use my old T32 flash (on manual) with the M10.

I wanted a backup for my E-M5II and was about to buy a E-M10II body only - until I noticed the two-lens kit cost only £30 more. Bargain :-)I didn't need either lens but they sell well on a well-known auction site for anything up to about £200, making the body an astonishingly low price after lens disposal, and it's a really nice camera. It's smaller and lighter than my E-M5II but apart from lack of weather sealing it has a very comprehensive feature set that almost matches its more expensive sibling and a huge improvement over the original E-M10.To be honest I actually prefer it to the E-M5II if only because of the slightly lower EVF magnification (better for glasses wearers like me)and a tilt LCD which I much prefer rather than the fully-articulated screed on the E-M5II. That and the lighter weight make it a pleasure to use in fair weather.Incidentally the 40-150 is a rather good lens (I already had one) but I'm unimpressed by the 14-42 PZ which produces rather flat, lifeless images. It is however very small and light, so I decided to keep it "just in case" and sell my existing copy of the 40-150 (for about £80), so the "kit" remains intact while under warranty.Very good buy, highly recommended.

This was a great buy. I was looking for something that I could 'grow into', ie coming up for retirement, an interest in photography and something that is easy to carry. DSLR is good but it can be cumbersome to carry around on walks, etc. I wasn't expecting such a great camera at what turned out to be a good price. I tried 'auto' to start with and was surprised at the very good results. One of the reasons I liked the idea of a compact system camera was the ability to keep it lightweight but allowing me to add lenses at a later date. I then looked at different makes. The appeal of Olympus was the image stabilisation in particular. It is good. The one slight drawback is that there is a slight delay between pressing the button fully and the photo being taken...perhaps as a result of the image stabilisation kicking in (but I am not expert enough to know for sure). However that has worked to my advantage at times ;) I am looking forward to trying out all the settings and facilities as time goes on.

A fantastic camera very easy to use and learn. The picture quality is outstanding and the kit lenses are of a very acceptable quality, and is on par if not better than my canon dslr.Because I am getting problems with my finger joints etc I find using this camera much easier and less painful than my larger and heavier dslr I can work with the camera much longer with less pain and also find the 3 programmable buttons of great use and combined with the touchscreen operation I have much more control and quicker ability to change the important things to me on the fly.I wish I had went mirrorless years ago it has put a new energy into my photography and I can operate the much lighter camera longerbringing the excitement of taking photos back 5***** in every respect well done olympus also the service from Amazon was outstanding being a prime member I had the camera outfit less than 20 hours after ordering with no postal charge.

Outstanding camera and lenses. I upgraded from the Panasonic LX100, and the difference is immense. Its not that much bigger physically or in terms of sensor size than the LX100 (both technically micro four thirds, but the LX100 only ever uses a smaller segment of the whole sensor) but the photos are in another league, even with the kit lenses. I've also got a 30mm Sigma lens and the results from that are breathtaking. This camera really is the perfect package - small, light, packed with features (the list is too long, but some of my favourite things are the IBIS, dial layouts, ease of use, brilliant view finder, touch screen, articulated screen),decent price and solid build quality.I cannot recommend this camera highly enough.

I wanted this camera ever since it first came out, but thought it better to wait a few years till the price dropped a bit. Now, several years later, I was worried it was no longer up to the standard I remembered when I tried it briefly the first time, but boy was I wrong. Was I happy with this camera? Absolutely. The video stabilization is working magic, its really light, and the Manual settings are really pulling weight for the lens to do its absolute best. The quality and subtlety of the features are nothing short of golden, and I couldn't have been happier with anything else, even knowing there is a mkIII out there. Looking forward to buying more lenses to this one. It gets a A+ in my book, even 5 years after launch.
