I am relatively new to die cutting, I began with the Sidekick and thought a step up would lead to bigger, better, brighter things: I hope that in due course it will. When it arrived one plate was ajar in the box and no wonder. One plate opens and closes with ease, the ajar one involves a wrestling match between me, my husband and the heavy lump of plastic. It can be done but my god it's hard; looking online this doesn't seem to be an issue so either mine is duff or it will gradually ease with use.I also have some difficulty in turning the handle but I am sure that, with the physical work-out this machine provides, my right arm will soon match Rafael Nadal's left, not bad for a 60 year old arthritic.Following comments by other reviewers I ordered a second pair of plates so have a sparkly one at the bottom and a plain on top. The top one is being marked in one side whch, given the strength of the pressure, is hardly surprising. Careful maneouvering and placing of dies will spread the damage until the time the top becomes the bottom and a new plate is used for the top.I am enjoying using this beast, the foldaway aspect makes the storage simple and reduces dust pollution, overall I am pleased but wish it was easier to use; maybe I am too old and enfeebled!A later update: I eventually came to the conclusion that I had a duff one so, when the price was too good to ignore, I ordered a second one. It's brilliant because it opens and closes with ease. I gave the first to a friend who wanted to try die cutting and had the room to keep it open. I also have the Cricut Cuttlebug (the one that looks like a handbag) and the build quality of the Sizzix is far superior. Don't waste your money on the Cricut (and anyway I think they have stopped making it?)A further update in April 2021. The handle is kaput in that it no longer stays on unless I push whilst turning (which with arthritic wrists and fingers is too demanding). Possibly an internal split pin held it in place and gawd knows if I will be able to repair it. Amazon don't currently have this in stock but Creative Rox do - with a Bank Holiday offer too.

I was very happy with the speedy delivery and the item very well packaged. On opening the box I didn't have a clue what to do as I've never used one before but a few YouTube videos later and I made up the gift boxes and tried everything that came with the starter pack, this is lovely as it means you can start creating straight away. However I definitely would watch a tutorial so that you know which plates to use before you start. There was no embossing folder so I couldn't try this feature and also after watching tutorials I know now that I need to buy more plates ie the impression plate and rubber mat so it is going to cost quite a lot more to use it to it's full potential! The cutting dies are also quite expensive but you can at least do some basic cutting straight out of the box.So I give stars for that , but on the down side it's going to be an expensive hobby I think, as I've already got more than the amount the Big Shot cost me in my Amazon basket for ordering ..lolHaving said all of that it's very good and I will be using it quite a lot and I'm glad I opted for the Big Shot plus for the larger platform and more scope for later on once I've purchased more cutting dies I'm also wanting to try making fabric squares for quilting which is the main reason I went for this model, although I didn't realise that the fabric dies were so expensive

Further to my first review I have been reading the low star score ratings and find them difficult to understand. The warping of the plates can be reduced by turning them over occasionally and a cracking noise is normal (even my electronic one does this). As for the dies marking the plates this is only natural as the dies have sharp edges, it happens on all machines be they manual or electronic. I ensure I use the same plate for the dies to cut into. On my old machine which I had for 15 years I only replaced the plates once. The new machine plates appear to be wearing well. As for dies not cutting through completely this is down to the die.I purchased a multi purpose platform which is a great help but there are still some dies in my collection that need extra padding - I usually just put a couple of sheets of printer paper in the relevant area. As for the types of dies, I use all kinds - big names to foreign imports (from Amazon). I find these great value though it usually takes several weeks for them to arrive. I suppose it is down to different people have different expectations but so far I have not been disappointed.

I have the Big Shot Pro and absolutely love this machine. I bought this smaller version so I can take it with me as the PRO is very big and heavy. I also wanted to have this one to cut the smaller dies and I can put on my crafting table beside me. Like the PRO this is a very well built machine; it is solid and very sturdy when you are turning the handle. It cuts dies with ease; you may have to run some of the more intricate dies through more than once and this also helps to bring out the embossed detail more. I also find that by using the smaller plates and putting more than one die on at a time; it helps with keeping your plates straighter.A great versatile machine and I would highly recommend this machine to all crafters especially those who are just starting out crafting; you literally take it out of the box; attach the handle and away you go. The multipurpose platform has instructions on what sandwich to use for the various dies; thin dies; bigz dies etc and also what sandwich to use for embossing. Very easy and simple to use.

I bought this before Christmas because my Grand Calibur of less than two years old fell to bits. My husband declared it a complete heap of rubbish! All plastic inside driving two metal rollers. Why did I go for this machine in particular when there are lots out there? Reputation! Reviews, forums professional crafters all recommend the Big Shot. Price also came into it. I didn't want to pay over £100 asI have to pay a hefty postage out to Spain. Since using the Big Shot I can advise that it is a sturdy machine and doesn't move around like the GC did. Have had no problems whatsoever with cutting or embossing. I have watched Sizzix demos on Hochanda and the demonstrator has mentioned the 'all metal'inside which means it shouldn't suffer the same fate as the GC. The only draw back for me is that it has a large foot print and therefore not as portable as the GC. Still think it's worthy of 5 stars though.

Delivery was a bit slow - they took 14 hours. I was expecting it in 13 and a half. LOL. With the extras this really is a fantastic price. (Someone else on Amazon is selling just the machine - not even the basic plates - for far more.). It is very easy to put the handle on (make sure you keep the allan key handy as the handle does sometimes work loose). It is fairly light but robust enough to do the job well. All the plates you require are included (except a rubber mat for embossing without an embossing folder - however at this price it's no problem to cough up 10 or 12 quid for the mat to further enhance the versatility of this machine). If it lasts as long as my previous Big Kik (same manufacturer)it will be excellent value. If you have read any of my previous reviews you may know I teach paper-crafting so my machines take a hammering. If you need further info please let me know.

I don't know why I waited so long to buy this!Excellent addition to my crafting room. I can use it for numerous types of crafts and for many purposes. I initially bought it to make cut out large felt shapes for Christmas garlands but am now using it on shrink plastic to make jewelry and accessories. It is very easy to use! All you need to do when you take it out of the box is attach the handle! And then you're ready to cut! This price is very VERY good as the US Amazon charges nearly twice the price for the same thing! They retail for well over $100(£80) in shops here in Ireland and the UK. If you're a crafter, it's the best £50 you'll ever spend!Note: This item is for the die cut machine only, the thinlits die cuts in my review photo were a separate purchase. They do not come with this item. I posted them to show what the Big Shot machine can do.

For this price you might have to buy additional plates or a platform for thin metal dies. However, the plates, platform and shims to make this compatible with all except the biggest die cutters for Bigshot Pro or Accucut machines were supplied. Moreover, there was a free thin die cutter A4 size to make a small gift box plus embellishments -Together with a Bigz die giving you dies to make 3d flowers with leaves, a butterfly , hearts and circles -Plus free backing papers! All this with free post! If you need a die cutter or thinking of a gift for someone who like craft then grab this while it’s available at this price.(Dont forget it will cut fabric so appliqué or quilting is made much easier. It will also cut lots of other materials using the Bigz dies or wooden Crosscuts etc)I totally recommend the product and this seller

Received this as a birthday present and being new to card making took a while to suss it out. After looking at the range of machines on offer I made the decision to have the Big Shot. I am so glad I did as it has enabled me to produce beautiful cards that look so professional. Having previously only used my neighbours different branded machine I wasn't sure but in a couple of days i'm an old hand at it! The ease of use and the robust construction will allow me to go on making cards as a hobby for many years to come.It comes with 1 Platform, 1 Thin Die Adapter and 1 Pair of Standard Cutting Pads. The dies are widely available on Amazon etc, with lots coming from China at silly price ranging from 99p upwards but well made and as good as you can buy for 3 times the price at craft shops. Go on treat yourself!

I started making my own cards before Christmas. I live in France and even in the best of times, it's hard to get cards. They're so expensive, and what with Lockdown there was no way I could get cards here. Never done them before. After a while I started getting into them and then I saw these die machines and I was intrigued. Bit expensive I have to say and it needs getting used to with all the cutting bits and pieces and all the Thinlits, Framelits, etc. It comes with paper instructions but I would prefer a proper little course to download. That's the only reason I gave this a 4 star. There's no way to get on an evening or day course here like you do in England. Download, please. Thanks.

Ordered this to take on holiday up to Scotland, so I could use a collection of my dies that I can not use on my smaller machine. This new machine is so very easy to use with some nice features such as the ability to fold up and not take up too much space, the ability to fold the handle out of the way, the two internal storage areas ideal for little bits and bobs that easily get lost, all cutting plates you will need including a new plastic shim I haven't seen before for the use of thin metal dies which there are some included along with a mini paper pad, material and felt packets. Overall very happy with this item for such a great price. Would fully recommend this for any die cutting fan

This Sizzix die cutting machine is simply fantastic for quality, versatility and tackles just about every die on the market (with a few limited exceptions). It's very smooth to roll the handle and obviously not noisy like many of the electric die cutting machines. I only wish I'd bought one sooner but I thought I wouldn't need a bigger machine, since I only make tiny cards. However, I have since started getting into various other craft projects and soft crafts, as well as journalling and mini books, so this machine became a must-have for me. I'm very excited to run it through its paces and I don't think it'll disappoint me somehow. Jingle bells Jingle bells..Sizzix all the way! :D

Excellent quality machine. It comes with all I needed - i.e. multipurpose platform and acrylic cutting plates. I did not want the starter kit version, as most starter kits do not suit my needs. I already tested it with a number of dies and the results are awesome.I want to say that I do not need the die cut machine for all my crafts - I have been using plotter cutters for a long time and they are my main crafting tools - but the machine like Sizzix helps me a lot whenever I need to cut a a repeatable pattern (eg. a frame or a gift tag) - it saves me lots of time.It is a good idea to purchase a magnetic platform (sold separately) for thin, metallic dies for precise positioning.

I purchased the Sizzix Big Shot Plus for embossing and die cutting to make my own personalised Christmas cards, i already have a smaller machine but I find it hard to keep the stack level and difficult to push through, with the Big Shot it's so easy it has a large platform that holds the plates in place making it easier to wind through the machine. It's very sturdy and quite heavy so it doesn't move around like my old one did. My only issue is that the plates get marked from the very first use and even though I switch them around and turn them over to help prevent the warping they did look very old after just a few uses other than that I'm very happy with my purchase.
