If you are used to a folder but fancy an upgrade to a 'fixed blade' then a Gomtaro will suit your needs. Its a Silky so very sharp and cuts predominantly on the back cut #spend a little time on the necessary technique to utilise this for effortless sawing#. There is a variation on the standard Gomtaro, the Gomtaro Pro, which has finer teeth towards the tip, and on balance this is probably an improvement - however the Pro comes with a ghastly yellow sheath. Many first time Silky buyers consider the Zubat as an alternative. If you are predominantly limbing trees then the Zubat is great, however the Gomtaro suits general conservation/woodland work as the curved blade and false tip of the Zubat limit its use in tight spaces and sawing vertically close to the ground.

I use my hand saws for pruning fruit trees of all ages. The Silky Gomtaro is a very good sharp saw, it makes swift cuts and is excellent for pruning branches of about 2cm and larger. I still prefer my ARS PS-30KL saw for smaller diameter branches and also like the well-shaped wooden handle of the ARS PS-30KL. The ARS is a slower than the Silky Gomtaro, but it makes a smoother cut on small branches. The Silky Gomtaro is much faster on larger diameter branches, so it is great for renovative pruning, but I would stick to my ARS PS-30KL for making finer cuts on younger trees

This is one mean saw. Throw away all your other wood saws, bow or otherwise, and try this one. The Japanese have come up with a fiendishly clever product that does what it says on the tin. The only caveat is that you should have a firm grip on both saw and the trunk/branch/baulk from which you are sawing off the piece that you want to remove - and wear heavy gloves ! Its so sharp that even a slight touch from the double blades will cut you. Can't recommend it highly enough.

I thoroughly reviewed the range of saws that were out there, looking for a top quality product.I'd never heard of Silky, but the experts were lavish in their praise of the company. They were not wrong.You can't compare this saw with the sort of thing you find in the DIY stores - this is on a different level.It actually does the job with the minimum of effort, making pruning a pleasure.Can't recommend it highly enough - expensive, but worth every penny.

I bought this product from an online retailer after a recommendation from professional forester. I emailed him after seeing his perfectly cut logs for his fire on a picture of his. I use mine for camping and it's made my axe redundant - it fits down the side of my rucksack/daysack and makes easy work of branches. My favourite bit of kit bar my knife !

I bought this saw about 6 months ago and it is great!The blade is super-sharp and cuts through branches quicker than anything i've ever used before.The handle is tough but comfortable and although i've used the saw frequently I haven't had to change the blade yet.I would recommend this to anyone who needs to prune branches on a tree.

We were advised to purchase this by a tree surgeon friend of ours.It is very sharp and worked wonders on our overgrown privet hedge.You would be well advised to wear gloves as the blade on this is very sharp.Really pleased.(...and thanks for the tip, Richard)

The Silky range offer a range of very sharp and effective saws. The Gomtaro is the preferred tool of our conservation volunteers when dealing with small scrub trimming/ removal. A fast, clean cut is what we require and this saw delivers it!

Excellent saw and holster so sharp!! Makes pruning a doddle. The main difference between this silky saw and other silky's is the straight blade which helps you get into places a curved one can't.

What an amazing saw. Tested it on a 10" Apple log and it went through in under 4 minutes. A joy to use and it requires so little effort. Came from Italy in 5 days - very impressive!

Comes in a useful holder which can be attached to a belt. This is perfect for cutting tree branches at ground level, but is so useful when you have to climb up high!

This is a lovely saw that cuts like butter. Was introduced to it when working with professional gardeners and i can see why they use it.

Simply the finest saw of its type that I've ever used. Beautifully made it cuts through green wood with ease and should last a lifetime.
