Received this as a christmas present, I chose it myself though! Along with a green wood blade (not yet used) I've just used it to go through a small amount of my log pile (cut wood been sitting for 4-6 months) and using the normal blade it's very good. As the stroke is so long, it only takes very few stroked to go through normal arm thickness pieces.Only think I'm not keen on, and this happens with ALL bowsaws, is that it curves whilst cutting to the left like a jigsaw does, so cuts aren't flat (probably due to narrow depth of blades of this type), but this is for firewood when I don't want to start my chainsaw and need a workout, and for that it's excellent! Hand guard very effective and build quality good.I'd probably also buy a smaller one for hard to reach places and use this larger one for sawhorse and felled work where the extra stroke length really makes a difference!Blade quality seems excellent, only wish there was a way to purchase additional blade guards for the blade I have that's not currently being used, but that's a wish, not a fault of this item!I'd recommend this item for felled wood up to maybe 8 inches diameter either flat or using a sawhorse, due to it's size you'd probably want a smaller/shorter one for tree work./limbing, maybe the 21" version. Professional quality and safer than a chainsaw provided you follow common sense rules! it would cut thicker than this but you'd be tired! I'd probably also say the blade makes a difference and it'd be worth sticking to bahco blades (green or standard) for the job you're doing, as the right blade makes a huge difference too!

I set out to find this particular make of bow saw because in the middle of an awkward job a few weeks back a colleague lent me one and everything about it was right. You will only know this if you have grown up with saws and have had some duff ones. So what is different about particular one? Firstly it has a very simple thumbscrew method of tightening the blade to get the tension just right for the job. It is not a one size fits all system. It is totally variable. Next in order to reacte to that tension one needs a strong frame and Bhaco have provided this is a deep elliptical tube section frame. Then to add a touch of comfort they provide you with a good handle. You have choice of blades but what comes with the tool is likely to be right for you. Very very sharp, almost all teeth and nothing to spare which is fine because you will not be working against much friction due to too wide a blade face. This bow saw is a masterpiece of value engineering. Buy one and you will be pleased, Take care of it, clean it, give the blade a wipe with an oily rag. Keep your hands away from the teeth, make sure you put the guard onto the blade when the tool is not in use and enjoy using and the pleasure of having it.

This is the business: having seen a review for a Bahco bow saw on youtube by a logger who recommended it over chain saws, I decided to try it.Having tried, for a full afternoon, to cut some root balls with a chain saw with a brand new oregon chain, and got nowhere, I was looking at every alternative: a better chainsaw- a buck saw- a japanese saw. But they all cost 100s. Asked others what to do, how to do it, how much to spend. It all seemed like more work than it should be.Saw cheap bow saws on eBay, went for a review on youtube, and this is what I came back with. I thought for £18, it was worth a punt. All I can say is I wish someone had told me this earlier. 15 minutes with a chain saw,and I got 1 inch into this stupid lump of wood, smoked myself out and was worried what I was doing to the expensive machine.I timed myself with the bow saw: 30 seconds, and it was through. I built up a sweat, sure, but it worked.Tried it on a different bit of timber that had given me no end of grief with a chain saw and a regular wood saw. Straight through. This saw has deep, nasty teeth, and rips through wood very quickly indeed. I heartily recommend it.

I was impressed with this product, made light work of taking a tree down that had fallen on the fence, was a good 40ft long but quite thin. It was on the maximum size for the bow saw but it still worked very well. Gave a very smooth cut. It was a basic cut and drop job but none the less it saved me a considerable amount of money - the tree surgeon was going to charge at least 5x as much. It was very comfortable to use and the motion was free flowing due to the sturdiness and sharpness of the saw. Obviously not as quick as the chain saw but perfect to use one handed due to a sprained left wrist. Ladies - you may want to consider this saw if you need one as I found it to be a good weight but not heavy,it had a good grip and it was surprisingly good at getting the job done. I have subsequently used it to saw the branches off the tree and it did a good job there too and it is still sharp. Am very pleased with the product. A good buy and would not hesitate to buy again.

Daughter bought this as a Christmas present for 2014 to replace my cheap B&Q bowsaw that I'd bought about 4 years ago when we got the woodburner and needed to saw up logs and which had got progressively more useless as time went by. This is very impressive: cuts through even the hardest of seasoned oak easily and with little effort. Lightweight frame but this doesn't pose a problem and the grip (for me) is fine. The length makes it a very efficient saw and although effort is required it's manageable. The blade is very sharp and only time will tell how long it lasts, but it's certainly sharper than others I've had and despite sawing up a lot of oak, birch and beech it hasn't lost it's edge.If considering buying one make sure you get the right one for the wood you intend to saw: this one is for dry, seasoned wood and you'll need a type 23 for anything still on a tree. For the money this can't be beaten I think.

I have found this to be a fantastic tool and worth every penny. I bought it as I need to saw up a lot of logs for our wood burner. I considered buying a chainsaw, but I'm very glad I saved my money. It was promptly delivered and well packaged. The blade is very easy to fit and to tension.I find the cutting performance to be easy and thorough on both old dry logs and fresh new ones. I've been using it a lot and it is still sharp and cuts brilliantly. I'm not exactly strong, but I find this saw easy to use, it is extremely sharp and well balanced, so I don't have to apply much pressure. The blade can get a bit sticky after a while, but I just apply a bit of oil to the blade. So,if you've got a lot of wood to cut then don't waste money on a chainsaw, buy this surprisingly brilliant tool for the job instead. Based on my experience with it, I cannot recommend this bow saw strongly enough.

As this is the first Bahco bow saw I have owned, it differs in blade assembly to other "standard" fitting bow saw blades. Despite this there are no instructions or other paperwork whatsoever in the box, nothing at all. How do I remove / change the blade??? any suggestions would be much appreciated. Note to Amazon: please ensure some form of instruction provided in future for this potentially dangerous product if handled incorrectly!!Thank you.Bit of an update: used it to saw green timber max dia 4" and goes thru it like the proverbial hot knife. Teeth as sharp as h*ll so be careful particularly with the guard which in my case was not correctly fitted. You need to widen the slot in the guard to locate the blade safely.Still waiting to find out how I change the blade and adjust the tension.

So far, this is a superb saw - went for the 30 inch instead of 24 which I’ve had previously. It’s a little more unwieldy when you first use it and there was some hand cramp early on because of the extra length, but those 6 inches make a big difference when it comes to the effort required to cut wood. The blade is extremely sharp and comes with a plastic cover, which is a nice touch. The only thing I would change - the plastic grip is a little smooth, a little more knurling would be good. Using some climbing chalk or wearing a glove helps until you get used to the weight/length.Have only used a few times so can’t yet comment on durability etc.Highly recommend this for cutting tree limbs and trunksup to about 15 or 20cm diameter.

We had a lime tree around 7 metres tall with a trunk of around 80cm in circumference at its base. It needed to go as the roots were getting close to the house. Tree surgeon quoted £200 just to cut it down and remove the debris - removal of stump a further £150.Decided to consider the DIY route and bought the Bahco bowsaw with the greenwood blade, which made very quick work of the branches and trunk. Apart from the cost of the saw, the only other expense was petrol for 4 trips to the municipal skips. (I'm not counting our time, since it was actually good fun!). Saving of around £190 quid, plus we still have the saw for any further felling adventures.Excellent product with superb performance. For a tenner, an absolute bargain.

Just got this through the post as misplaced other bow saws (think I left them in exasperation where I found some tree trunks and tried in vain to cut them up). I had to haul the trunks with help into my car as my chainsaw is electric and an extension lead would need to be 2 miles long from my house to the site! Tried this saw on the trunks at home and it's almost like cutting through butter with a hot knife compared to the other saws I had. Brilliant! Hope it doesn't go blunt as I now have enough wood cut and split for a couple of years even with my girlfriends need for sub tropical heat from my log burner (how come it's always cold at her house?).Good luck to anyone who found my old saws - you can keep them!!

I bought this for sawing up the odd bit of wood that's too long for my wood burner. It's really great for cutting down thinner bits that are just too long - branches a couple of inches diameter can be sawn in just a few seconds. Larger logs, say 4, 5 or 6 inches thick (especially seasoned hardwood) are a lot harder work and I find the handle makes my hand ache after one or two of those, but that is probably more of a reflection of my lack of sawing experience and knowledge. Maybe the grip is too big for my hand, or maybe it's my poor sawing technique, I'm not sure. Either way some kind of system for holding the wood in place while you saw helps a lot.

I'll keep this short. I paid £14.95. For that price I got a saw that is better than any available locally, which includes an equivelant Fiskars model and other budget brands. The handle is far superior and more comfortable. The saw feels solid and simply glides through live wood with ease. The first job I used it for was cutting down a live Ash tree at the foot of my garden, handled with ease. My dad owned a Bacho model years ago and it lasted for years and years, but we could no longer find it. This has been bought as a direct replacement to the old model and I can confirm build quality is just as good.

I needed to cut down a fairly solid 20ft tree, so after a little research I bought this saw, I also bought a spare blade because of the amount of sawing involved, not just cutting the tree down but also sawing the tree into car boot sized bits (there's more tree in a tree than you think, I know it sounds mad but its true) anyway the saw behaved perfectly, the blade was very sharp, as you would expect but it remained sharp throughout, so much so I didn't need the spare blade, if you have to cut a tree down and need a tool that will do the job then the Bahco 30in saw is the one to go for.

9.4.2020

Bought this after my chain saw gave up on me to enable me to get through the boughs I had amassed. I don't particularly like chain saws and this comes a very close second when it comes to sawing logs. OK it is not as quick but glides through boughs and branches with little effort. There is less mess than a chainsaw as well. Would thoroughly recommend. (A word of caution. When I first had it I was a bit over-enthusiastic and managed to cut my fingers quite severely so it needs to be treated with respect).

1.8.2015

The saw does what it is supposed to. With the type 23 blade it cuts through green wood with ease. I've cut through six inch branches with no problem. The hand guard is good for avoiding banged knuckles. If you are having problems getting the blade guard on, the trick is to fold open one side, place on blade, then fold closed. It's more obvious once you try it. It took me a couple of goes to work it out but I presumed it shouldn't be as difficult as I first found it.Very happy with this purchase.
