Ok so it's a long time since I played the original Beyond Earth, and whilst I can see some obvious changes, I'm not entirely sure why this game feels so much better than the last (pre-Rising Tide) time I played it. Certainly a lot of the original niggles have disappeared and much of the new(ish) format feels more intuitive. I have to admit I play this as a war game. All victories apart from Domination are turned off, I play the massive map (it's odd but the Map goes from 'Standard' to 'Massive' - what happened to 'Large'?). I start by exploring everything, build up my forces, then it's all out war with everyone and everything! Not very subtle I will admit, but very satisfying!Anyway my point is the game is now playable and apart from a bit too much unnecessary diplomacy (and I don't mean just cos I'm a warmonger), and a bit of uncertainty with the Tech Tree, this is a fun game. It's still Civilization in another costume but I like it.For anyone interested here's how I play the North Atlantic Alliance (water based). I follow three main stages.Stage one: Under no circumstances attack any alien (hit one and they all respond). Set the game up so you have a 'soldier' in your first city. In water cities this becomes a boat which is a big advantage. It is not just your explorer which can pick up the Resource Pods, any of your units can, so set your boat (which has a far greater range than your explorer) to collect these pods in the water. That said, I immediately build another explorer and another boat and the whole of the first stage is exploration and resource/expedition collection. If you've left the aliens alone they may be a pain but not a threat - with one exception, NEVER send your new colonist off without protection, the aliens will take out unprotected colonists and workers not in their own territory. The aliens may also pillage around your cities but they won't actually attack the cities or explorers or units unless provoked.Stage two: Once you have better forces and they've been upgraded a couple of times it's time to wipe out the Aliens, but be careful they can destroy your cities, so work outwards.Stage three: You should now have a virtually open map, few aliens to bother you, and some powerful weapons. Time to wipe out the competition.I go Purity but I'm not sure it matters that much. Have fun but please remember this is only one way of playing the game.

I've invested quite a few hours into the expansion to Beyond Earth after reading a few reviews for it. I really enjoyed Beyond Earth but I felt there was quite a lot missing, especially when compared to Civilisation 2 Call to Power and Alpha Centauri. I liked the Diplomacy on them games, and the fact that you could change the personality of your leader/government to refine your motives towards tech, economy, dominance. I was very pleased to see that Rising Tide has done just that.Your leader can earn Capital (a new kind of currency) which can be used to barter perks and upgrades with other factions, or you can use it on yourself to boost your perks such as defence, home economy, and special unique perks to each faction. I really like this and feel it's very successful. The whole diplomacy part of the game has been overhauled. To join an alliance, you have to score respect/fear points, but having this alliance means your trading and Capital bonuses get better (similar to how repeated trading with a Station raises your tier to get extra goodies). You no longer trade items with factions, but instead use the Trade Convoy to gain resources. I don't like this part so much because, for me, resources become quite vast compared to the real world situation. I enjoyed the idea of holding a monopoly on Floatstone limiting other player's use of it.I think the game brings a lot of new features to the original, including floating cities (which is a feature I loved on the early games), and hybrid affinities which unlocks new units. There is also more mini quests and artifacts in the game, which adds a real nice story line. It's still super addictive and many hours have been gratefully sunk into this game. If the prices goes down/goes into a sale, I would definitely get it; £15 is slightly steep.

its strange how much an expansion can improve a game, civ beyond earth is good as it stands but rising tides adds so much more to it i was amazed, the big thing i noticed was being able build cities on water , it adds so much to an already great game, there are some other little tweaks in the actual gameplay aswell but you can find them for yourselves, i am glad i did not buy civ 6 as there has been a lot of negative press on that but if you have beyond earth why not upgrade with this you will not be dissapointed

This is Civilization in Space, and if you love Civ you will love this.I bought the original last year and this is an extension to the game which ties up some of things you would have liked in the original game. It is great fun to play for those of us who like taking over the world, or in this case another planet. It is very addictive, so put a few hours aside when you start playing.

Thoroughly enjoying this add-on. I seems to play a bit better and fairer now, especially if going all out to conquer! Only real gripe is what I would consider to be very slow start-up

Base game was ok but a little lacking. Rising Tide is a much needed addition that makes the game a lot better.
