Ive been a Civ fan since the first one.I got Civ V Game of the Year edition last year. I liked it and played it for a while. Then I stopped playing it, it just felt too 'empty' and not enough to do.However, I decided to get Gods & Kings on release to see if this made the game better the way previous expansions of previous Civ games did.It most certainly does! Gods & Kings transforms Civ V into a much more interesting game. I still dont think its perfect, espionage seems rather limited, but its much more fun now and I could never go back to Civ 4. The Civ V Gods & Kings book by Bradygames is also well worth it in my view - this book covers the whole Civ V game, not just Gods & Kings.I know you can get all the info on the net no doubt but I found the book a really good read and very interesting - would take you ages to print all this out anyway! It might be worth waiting until the inevitable box set with Civ V Game of the Year and Gods & Kings in one box though. Also - there is a major patch update coming in the next months which will fix the remaining bugs and streamline the game better.I would advise that you have a fairly good PC/laptop to run this. Im getting away with an I5 laptop with a 1gb Radeon card and 6gb ram but I wouldnt want to have less than that with this game.

Strategy games have few expansions these days and for the longest time it looked like Civilization V expansions will be nothing more than the small extra-Civilization DLC's that have been released over time. But Gods & Kings actually puts up an effort for a game released two years ago.If you also have the DLC's, then Gods & Kings makes the civilization selection truly epic in scale. But civilization shave always been a little on the shallow side when it comes to differences in gameplay, so Gods & Kings actually implements things in the game that make quite a bit of difference in terms of your strategies. The combat system takes what was good in the original release and enhances it,it feels more like chess now than ever before and I love it. Diplomacy has been much improved as well and the biggest new addition, religion, is handled so graciously that you'd have to step back and wonder why it would be a controversial issue at all. This is a great expansion for a very good game. If you loved Civilization V at all, then this expansion is a worthy reason of giving the game another go after two years.

The new espionage feature is quite good; you can steal techs from the opposition. The religion is also fun, but I have found that this religion is disabled when you play a mod. I've been playing on a mod called `yet (not) another map package' which puts the various civs in the correct city starting positions, which makes Civ 5 a better game. The trouble with this game in general is that when you get to the latter part, the turns take ages to scroll through, and the game becomes unplayable. Perhaps mega powerful computers can cope. So what you can do with a mod, or on the standard maps, is to reduce the number of civs and city states. Napoleon is a hard nut to crack and has beaten me rotten in the game; very aggressive. What would make the game better, is if they provide a map package, so that you don't have to look up the mods. As the game and expansion is cheap, I don't see how anyone can grumble about it, it's very good value for money. I've played for 170 hours so far!

As Civ IV had some of the features in this any way (i.e still a lot more civilizations and religion), these are the sort of things you would have expected to be in Civ V in the first place.Still, it does make the game better, city states have improved a great deal in my opinion, although religion is a bit of a waste of time tbh unless that is entierly what you're going to focus on.Navel warfair has changed for the better, no longer simply a case of who has the biggest ship, also they can take cities now.Espionage is the best change, much easier than in previous game as you don't have to move them like units, rather than manage them also from one screen which is much less tedious.New Civs are rather ancient era focused.Would like to diversity in unit skins,i.e chinese/native america knights don't just look like europeans. They managed this with several units late in civ IV, why can't they do it for all of them by now?If you liked Civ V, would recomend

I haven't played Civ 5 for quite a while. I've never been good enough to beat the game at level 4 and after a while you get frustrated and go and do something else. When I was playing, I did downoad new DLC when it came out, as new civilisations (with their individual strengths and weaknesses) help keep things fresh, so when I saw this for twelve quid I thought it was worth a punt.I just spent twelve hours non-stop on the game yesterday! I particularly like the addition of espionage, which opens up a whole new approach to how you plan your strategy. City states are also much more involved - I tended to neglect this area before. Religion has been added but I'm not really that sure what the benefits are yet.I'm off to play again in a bit so maybe I'll discover it then. Most aspects of the game have been tweaked in some way, usually for the better. The result is that every new game you start is totally different to the last.

This is an enjoyable enhancement for CivV to bring it up to the game play standard of CivIV. The only question is why it was not part of the original CivV offering, as religion played such a pivotal role in CivIV.The religion enhancements adds to the game almost as much as the culture enhancements originally provided to CivV. But beware, that you have to be the first player to get to each religious enhancement or all the best benefits will be grabbed by other players leaving you at a disadvantage as the religious enhancements are not available to everyone. Boadicea is a good start option if you want to get the best out of religion. The new races, resources, technologies and buildings add more flavour to the game and enhance the gaming experience. They also mean that expansion can be accelerated to the original CivV growth potential with more luxuries available. This is a must have expansion if you are a CivV addict.

I was critical of Civilization 5 when the original launched. It was prone to crash at the higher rounds, especially if you were conquering all before you. So I had left it alone for some time. However when this expansion and update turned up. I thought maybe this will help. IT DID! Civilization 5 Gods + Kings is an excellent pack. Now I can play to total domination send out spies, found a religion. There are new units, new wonders, new technology, new civilizations. This has bred new life into the game, which both I and my wife have played. So far so good! I also like the changes made to the units. Destroyers are now a naval melee vessel, no firing on land targets, and privateers earlier in the game.If you're a Civ' fan who was disappointed with the original offering, then this will make amends.

The thing the makers of Civilization games have been trying to overcome for a long time, is the stale sense of predictability that can develop beyond a certain point. Gods and Kings makes the interplay between different civilisations and city-states seem more dynamic and closer to the balance of power situations that occur in the real world. Various reworkings to the game, like espionage and religion, force you to adopt a definite strategy that isn't just about pursuing rapid advancement up the tech-tree, or building wonders. Combat has also been tweaked to make individual units more valuable. There are a few extra civilisations thrown in for good measure. Overall,Gods and Kings represents a satisfying twist to the game's traditional mechanics.

This expansion of Civ 5 brings in new mechanics, most notably the religion feature, absolutely love this you can choose from a series of different founding principles, which help you to gain bonus' and benefits linked to the about one temples followers of your religion and just land bonus' which help your cities to expand. With the addition of religious city stated you can also boost the rate ate which your civ generates faith if you befriend them, similar to befriending cultural city states in the base game which boosts the amount of culture you generate.I also really like the addition of new civs such as the dutch and the celts each with new specialized units and civ advantagesReally goodfun.

If you have Civ 5, you must have Gods & Kings, it renders civ5 almost perfect as a civ game. The new civilizations are excellent, the religions are well thought, there is a lot of little improvements on many levels in civ 5, such as the balance of difficulty levels in the game ( much well balanced ), social policies, the previous units and the new units, the city states offers unique goods, new kind of city states, etc...To be short, i wouldn't play anymore at civ 5 without this add on.

This expansion pack for Civilization 5 is the final piece of the jigsaw that repairs the woeful, inexcusable, nonsensical mess that was the original release. If you're unlucky enough to have been duped into buying the travesty that went before, you're in for a treat. Finally Civ 5 is a Civ game! Those used to the format and those new to it will enjoy this thoroughly engaging and intricate world-builder/turn-based-strategy masterpiece.Simply brilliant, at last!

Straight forward, turned based game play, you'll need good quad core and gfx card to get the best from it. Many customizable options in the setup and many different ways to play. No 2 games are the same.Religion is a good feature although I think i'll turn the Spy option off in my next game, just makes a game drag a bit too much, and I feel spies are a useless waste of space anyway in the bigger picture scheme of things. The best Civilization release to date.

first copy did`nt work steam kept rejecting the login code so you understand my annoyance, then a couple of days ago another copy turned up in the post this one does work, so the other has been sent back, loads quickly and adds a lot of new stuff to CIV 5 which is still one hell of a game to play, many thanks to whoever sent the repalcement copy

I know it says it on the box but this is PC DVD.This is an expansion pack for Civ V.If you are a Civ V fan and want to play this on your Mac this won't work as an expansion to your version of Civ 5.Neither is it compatible with steam down load for Civ V as it's a DVD.Potentially great expansion pack for Civ V.On a PC.

A great add-on (rewrite) of CIV although it adds lots of complexity to the game. Frankly, I couldn't go back to playing without it now...it not only adds the new areas: religion, technologies, races, etc, but it also rebalances all the game mechanics.A good step forward and highly recommended.
