I purchased this phone as a replacement to my S7. After managing to break that one, I was after an affordable replacement. I was slightly dubious about getting a lower spec version, but since receiving this phone I am actually kicking myself for ever worrying about getting the newest versions. As a very quick summary; I love that this phone takes an SD card, which means I get more storage room and for the price it is just as fast and the display as clear as more expensive versions.Lengthy summary:I use my mobile a fair bit and for a variety of reasons and so far I haven't found anything to make me want to review this less than five stars (if I do I will update this review with details). When it arrived I popped it on charge and could see it already had around 40%,so enough to start setting things up. It comes with the usual pin to open the sim slots. There are two slots as this phone takes dual sim and an SD card. The first slot takes sim 1 and the SD card and second sim can go into slot 2. I haven't used a second sim, so can't comment on whether this works well or not, but when I downloaded WhatsApp it popped up with a notification suggesting I download a second copy for a different number, so it looks like it is well set up to use a second one and will help you to get it set up properly. The phone picked up my network quickly and I could make calls and send texts, but I had no data coverage. I am not sure if this is related to the phone or to do with my network, but either way it was simple to fix. I won't give full details here as I'm sure the fix varies from network to network, but it is basically to do with needing to set up the APN settings. Google what settings you need and put these into the APN section within settings/network and you should be good to go (or at least I was!).The phone supports 4G and the usual wifi, bluetooth, etc. The screen is large and clear and comes with some basic Android apps installed. Once connected to the internet you can connect to pick up emails and phone numbers you've got linked to your accounts.Sound is perfect, camera is great (actually slightly better than my S7). Apps run without trouble and there's no noticeable slowness due to having a lower amount of ram - I'm finding it works quickly for downloading and streaming. The phone has thumbprint recognition that is quick and easy to set up (it is one of the first things it gets you to do once you switch it on).In the box is a charger (normal speed, not fast charge) and headphones. The phone is sturdy and the standard size of the Samsung range.Oh, and it also has fm transmitter on it! I've not seen this on a phone for a while. I can't say I have used it, but it's nice to have the option! In truth, I wasn't expecting much from this phone, but am really pleased with it. Hopefully I won't break this one anytime soon!

I got this Samsung J5 phone after having had three budget chinese android phones. The no name branded phones were ok but with a lot of little niggly bugs here and there. Functional but not the best a quick list of problems I had:- when tethering the phone disconnected and reconnected every 5 minutes- recharging the batteries too a long time- some apps would not work- some sensors like NFC and others were missing limiting it's functionality- at times slow despite a lot of RAM- skype and other similar apps didn't work very well when using it handsfree and a lot of feedback was getting throughNow being fed up and the battery dying slowly I decided to go for a branded phone in the hope that thequality would be a little bit better with less bugs and it actually working. And voila it was:The phone arrived before the stated timeIt was brand new and without simlock so no issues to connect with my simcardCharging was done within a few hours as opposed to a full day or night for the chinese budget variety.Clear screen, it seems scratch resistant for the few weeks I have had it.Everything worked fine and tethering was perfect without annoying disconnects and reconnects.Skype, Whatsapp handsfree calls worked perfectly.Very good audio qualityAll sensors seem to be installedIt is a little bit heavier due to the "real" metal casing but that is fine by me.The cameras both front and back produce excellent pictures. So no complaints. One little snag I can live with though. My last chinese budget phone had a notification light at the front. It was called Harlequin I think. It was handy to see if a message or a call had come through. Even though the phone looks like there is a notification light on the front I havn't managed to find a software setting to activate it.It can be annoying calls or messages can be missed when away from the phone without opening the screen. The phone was about twice the price of the chinese budget phone I have had before for a year but it my opinion it is worthwhile.Smooth operation through and through. No problems, quality is ok, a good workhorse I am looking forward to use for the next couple of years.MRead full review...

After many years resistance, I finally decided to accept the inevitable and buy a smartphone. Much research followed and I settled on the Samsung J5 (2017) as best for my needs. I wanted a dual sim version, which meant that it would have to be an EU import with all the uncertainties regarding warranty (why can’t we have a UK dual sim version?). However, given that the price was £50 less than the UK single sim version, it seemed worth the risk.I ordered it from Fonogram and the purchase went without incident. The phone arrived in 3 days, in sealed packaging and with a separate UK plug. The phone itself appeared to be from a Polish or Slovakian source, but it was simple to change the language and everything was fairly straightforward to set up.The phone itself seems to be good. Battery life is excellent (probably comfortably lasts a couple of days) and using it as a mobile hotspot has been impressive – I’m getting download speeds more than double my broadband connection – makes me wonder whether there is any point in keeping a landline.Everything has worked as expected and although some of the Samsung bloatware is a bit irritating, there have been no major problems. Pleased with my purchase.

I am a senior citizen and moved from a Samsung Galaxy G4 Mini principally because the mic developed a fault (and the screen was a bit small). I use pay-as-you-go and simply do not insure my mobile (so many people seem to waste so much money on unnecessary insurance). The characters on the J5 are simply not bold enough (size for size comparison of characters with G4 Mini. Why would Samsung make such a backward move? However, in principle, the black characters on a white background are a good move: pity that they are harder to read -like for like - than on the G4 Mini !! Surely this is a very basic design error. As I do my serious on-line business communications via laptop (mostly kept in home office)and do not wish to carry out any of my business or financial communications via a mobile phone (how safe would it be if lost and deciphered by thieves who have very sophisticated equipment these days ?) Operational software seems to be a little over complicated and confusing in part. Battery life seems to be reasonable so far.

I would have given five stars to this but a couple of things made me not do so. The first is not Samsung's fault and that is that the supplier in my case has clearly obtained stock destined for Europe as my 'phone was set up in the Italian language with Italian instructions. To be fair the sales description said the manual might not be in English, but some inbuilt apps were none too easy to change from Italian and one has defeated me.The second thing is that my particular 'phone wouldn't connect to the Internet via mobile data until I trawled my provider's website for a guide on how to set it up. Buying a SIM free handset might carry this problem I suppose, but my previous ones (one Samsung)were set up automatically by inserting the SIM card. All in all the 'phone was summed up perfectly by my son (an iPhone owner) when he said that it's an iPhone but with Samsung written on it and a fraction of the cost. A slight overstatement perhaps, but not by much!Read full review...

I hear it's a mid-range smartphone and apparently has fewer features than the other Samsung galaxy series (such as s6, s7, s8) however my husband owns an s7 but I don't see how the j5 is any different from his one, and I know that I wouldn't be able to get the most out of a more expensive phone no matter how many more features it may have thus rendering it useless for it's price. So in that sense this phone is a bargain at such a price as well as having a 2 years manufacturers warranty (apparently. At least that's what seller description says). I love the phone camera; so many extra features as well as a built-in editing function. The phone is not much different from the S series imo.It also has a fingerprint sensor! The weather app seems accurate, with hourly forecasts. There doesn't seem to be a widget feature on this phone - well I have not been able to add any widgets on as of yet, however there is a briefing widget.Read full review...

i ordered two of these for me and my partner and we are both really happy with them the battery life will last around 2 days without having to plug it in and the camera quality is amazing there is good camera stabilisation as well.this phone comes with two 12MP cameras (front and back) and this is really good for photos and selfies.it takes two nano sims and also an Micro SD card and this will give you more than enough space for your photos and apps as it comes with an amazing 16GBs worth of storage built inonly one fault with this phone is that there is not much water protection in the speaker port but as long as you do not go outside in pouring rain with it in your hand you should befine.

I bought this to replace a Nexus 4. Easily held in one hand, a beautiful clear screen, and high quality cameras both front and rear. Overall I find this device simple and pleasing to use, including the initial transfer of my contact details etc from previous smartphone. It appears to be robust with its full metal casing, though I did fit a simple protector for extra safety - following previous dropping experiences leading to expensive repairs! And oh yes - the telephone functions work fine, with clear speech reception! In conclusion - very happy with this purchase, and would certainly recommend it to anyone looking for quality at a very competitive price.

Best specced budget smartphone , nice feel and has a metal anodised body, included are all the sensors I need such as Geomagnetometer compass and Gyro which no other phones in this price bracket have , this means outdoor apps will work well as will VR headsets and VR apps, 16 gig is on the small side but its enough if you dont need hundreds of apps, good screen , camera is adequate in well lit scenes , not so good in low light, fingerprint sensor is really handy for securing the phone , speaker sound quality is OK but not as good as some , all in all a really good for the money

The phone arrived before estimated date and the tracking info was accurate. The phone was new and sealed. I have Prime but as the phone was "due in stock" delivery was not the next day. The power plug supplied is for Europe but also included was a USB cable to charge easily in the UK and a basic set of head phones. I have had dual sim phones for many years, none come with UK power plugs unless the seal is broken for them to put a plug in the box.I was delighted with all aspects of this purchase and I feel the vendor is honourable and supplied the phone at a competitive price.

I needed a dual SIM phone as I spend a lot of time travelling between England & Republic of Ireland. I was fed up carrying two phones. This phone does the job really well & was very easy to set up, it also comes with a storage card space which is a bonus as many dual sim phones do not have this. The phone was put to the test immediately & is working well. The colour is different to standard black & easy to see in the depths of a bag.Phone arrived well within estimated delivery time.I am very pleased with my first dual SIM phone & it has made my life easier.

I have had this phone for nearly twelve months and it has performed fantastically. It charges up quite quickly in comparison to many of the other phones I've had and the battery life is long lasting. Display is wonderfully clear and sharp. I cannot fault the phones functionality and connectivity to WiFi. I do have an issue with MMS however, the instructions provided on the phone to solve this are frustrating to find in the first instance and do not then provide the guidance to solve the issue. Could be me though as I am getting on a bit.

Excellent Android phone without paying the earth. We went for dual sim because we live in a village where only one mobile provider gives good reception, but they don't provide a sensibly priced sim-only monthly contract. So we kept our old PAYG numbers with their good home reception, but use a £5 a month contract with more than enough data, calls and texts for our needs, when out and about. The dual sim is easy to set up. The camera is great. The case is alumumium. Battery life is very adequate.

Bought this as the 1st smartphone my wife has owned. She loves the colour. Pity I had to download the 128-page manual, as the warranty and other blurb in the box was in French and Arabic.(Mentioned in other reviews). She is finding her way around the functions slowly but finds the screen a bit too sensitive and very often gets the wrong app/function. Overall, it works, feels solidly built and does the job. As long as it lasts like her 15 year-old Nokia, she will be happy!

Being a bit of a phonophobe i have had my old mobile for a number of years so the upgrade to this phone was timely its a nice little phone and comparing it to the new Samsung for the price this does what i want. my main reasons or buying it were that i like Samsung products and it was a dual sim. i have not been able to test out the dual sim function yet as my purpose for buying it was so that i can use it when i'm abroad with a local sim.
