Pros:Compact design. Lightweight and very comfortable to hold, even with heavy luggage.Easy to read scale can be viewed from above, but anyway the reading is held for one minute or can be reset at any time. I've checked its readings over the range: accuracy is very good. The built-in webbing strap is well designed to quickly clip around any shape of luggage handle.Battery compartment very accessible. Battery can be replaced quickly without a screwdriver.Cons:Can't think of any ! except that the scale reading could do with a second or two additional delay time to allow weight to settle. It's a bit over-enthusiastic to hold its reading, so I would recommend taking a few additional reset readings to fully confirm your luggage weight.Often the first one is indicated as too light. Make sure that there is no tension on the weighing strap when resetting though, or you will get a false reading. You soon get used to its quirks. After all, it's going to save you a lot of money in overweight penalty fees.Overall: Excellent value for money, easy to use and accurate. Wouldn't be without it. A MUST to take with you, to avoid overweight bags on the return trip.

After arriving bang on the start of check in for a return flight with a well known Irish low cost airline company, my partner and I were sent around to re-queue three times (along with a whole load of oher passengers) as we couldn't balance our 15kg per bag allowance (i.e. queue up, get to the front with one bag weighing 14kg and one weighing 16kg, get sent to the back of the queue to guess and re-pack. Get to the front of the queue again and repeat when 0.5kg out per bag. Repeat again!). We very nearly missed our flight.I have just returned from holiday having used the luggage scales when flying Easyjet. The scales are very lightweight, easy to use and accurate (matched the airport scales exactly). The best bit was being absolutely sure that you were within the luggage allowance (20kg per bag for Easyjet, much better!) for each bag. You'll be amazed that even a couple of novels and a pair of sandals can weigh a couple of kilos and throw your luggage allowance per bag out, or even end up costing you excess baggage charges. These scales are a must buy when using low cost airlines!

I recently had to relocate from one country to another, and this move involved a long haul flight. Now you can imagine how stressed out I was about excess baggage and avoiding extra fees. This scale is simply the best £15 I have invested in a long time. Once I bought a cheap one in a famous high Street shop and I did not trust it at all, so I needed a good replacement for my relocation move. This scale, however, ticks all my requirements:* reliable - the measurements are consistent and reproducible,* easy to use - no need to calibrate it with any special method,* affordable price - nearly £15*top quality - materials feel sturdy and can hold /measure nearly a 30 kg bag just fine. What else canwe ask for?!My relocation went out fine mainly because of having a reliable scale I could use at home. When putting my bags on the airline scale, the weight was super close to what this little scale measured.Thank you Salter for such an amazing and highly valuable product. I have been using this scale since June 2019 without any issue.

I travel around a lot and it is always worrying when you are not sure if your suitcase is within the strict weight limits for the airlines. I have always used our digital bathroom scales which seem to be pretty accurate but they are no use on the flight back. I initially bought another make of luggage scales which seemed to be a bargain but when I tried to use them they were useless. I tried weighing my suitcase which was about 20kg but the reading on the scales would not settle to a reading that would lock on no matter how long I held the case. I sent them back and got the Salter Luggage Scale from Amazon and they are ideal, the reading settles down quickly and they are comfortable to hold. They may look heavy but they are made from a lightweight plastic so you can take them with you for the flight back. I found them accurate compared to my bathroom scales but beware, it seems that a lot of airport checking scales are not accurate so leave your luggage a kilo or two lighter unless you want an argument at the check in desk.

I purchased this little gadget both for holidays and for accurately weighing the heavier ebay parcels that won't fit on my kitchen scale :-) It's very light, so it's good for stowing away in your case without adding overly to the weight. I may be wrong, but I suspect the only way of stopping the on/off button on the top of the scales being pressed by accident whilst inside your suitcase, is to remove the battery before you pack it. The scale does seem to do the job, although it has the slightly annoying habit of giving several different readings when you double check the result. So you can weigh an item and it might give 4.2k, weigh it again and it might give 4.1 or 4.3. Call me picky, but I would prefer that it give the same answer every time. But all in all, it's a nifty little device, but if you want to use it for ebaying, remember, you'll need to find some kind of bag with handles to pop your parcels into before they can be weighed.

This is the third one of these scales I have purchased. The first was for my own use and the others have been gifts. As scuba divers and motorcycle tourers we often have a lot of luggage when we travel. In particular, the small aircraft that fly into the dive locations in the Pacific weight every item of baggage and then weigh the passengers and their hand luggage. Keeping under the maximum weights is critical and difficult as my dive gear alone weighs 17.5 KG. These scales have proven a real boon. They are light, accurate and easy to use. They have been thoroughly reliable and robust on the road. We use them to check the weights of all our gear and redistribute stuff to get the best arrangement. It gives us a great deal of confidence and takes one more worry out of travel. We are very happy with this product and recommend it to others.

On my last holiday I had no way of weighing my luggage on my return trip and was shocked to see on the airport scales I was 2.5Kg over the limit, just with a few lightweight souvenirs. Luckily it was a sheduled flight with a major airline and they let it go. A budget airline would have charged me the earth! So far I have only tested these scales on empty cases and they seem to be very accurate. My little cabin trolley case weighed a surprising 1.3Kg and the limit for cabin baggage is 5Kg. After weighing my main case, I will then weigh my hand luggage and pop the scale in it for the return journey(remembering to allow for the weight of the light weight scale).I think it would be advisable to replace the plastic battery saver strip after use unless you travel every few days.I am confident one trip may pay for the scales.

We purchased the scales as my husband has taken a job abroad, but there were very strict weight limits on his luggage allowance, which had to include his tools for work as well as all clothes and any 'home comforts' that couldn't be waited for for the three months that shipping would take. We were determined to pack 'to the max' - but worried about exceeding the limit, and quickly realised that ordinary bathroom scales just weren't reliable enough for weighing luggage. We ordered these particular scales as Salter have a good reputation, and we were delighted to find that this is as deserved in the luggage scale stakes as it is in catering equipment! They were absolutely spot on with the weight given at the luggage check-in.We really can't recommend these scales highly enough, accurate and very good value for money.

I have had this for a few years now and I can now honestly say that it has been an invaluable tool for helping us keep within the weight allowance for our holidays. We travel quite a bit and do both short trips to Europe, cruises to the Caribbean and longer trips to the Far East. Since getting this scale we have not had issues with overweight luggage. I take it with me on holiday to weigh the bags on our return also. On one of our trips many of our fellow passenger had excess baggage fees on the return trip - we had sailed out of Southampton but returned by air from Bangkok airport and thanks to this small gadget we were able to spread the weight of our luggage between our 3 cases and remain within the limit.I highly recommend this if you want to do away with excess luggage fees.

Seems a robust and well made scale and accurate as far as I can tell. I took on board the earlier comments and cover the battery when not in use to prevent any small power drainage even when switched off.You have to lift the case with the scale for it to obtain a weight measurement so no good for anyone who cannot lift the case but then they would need some sort of floor type scale (obvious I know). The scale locks the reading so you do not need to fumble with buttons or read the display when you are lifting the case and can be reset afterwards.A very handy device and one I should have bought along time ago to prevent fraid nerves at the airport wondering if our cases were over the weight limitwhen coming home.

I bought this scale recently for a trip based on cost and reviews (I paid about £9 when there was a 20% off sale). It ended up weighing 300g more than at the airport, which was fine since it overstated the weight. I'm fairly happy with this product and would recommend it.Pros: Light weight, the handle (it makes the weighing process easier), fairly accurate.Cons: I accidentally changed the units from kgs to pounds a few times by pressing the button too many times (you are suppose to press the button once to reset it to 0 and i pressed it 2-3 times and it changed the units). Wish the screen was backlit,as we ended up using a torch to see the weight when we were weighing our luggage in a poorly lit room.

This proved to be the best investment I made before I went away with my husband and two grandchildren. My grandson thought he was on a shopping spree, not a holiday so I kept having to re-arrange the suitcases to keep them within weight limits for the return journey. It is extremely accurate; on both journeys and on every case, it was almost bang on the airlines readings. I couldn't have done without it. Just a tip: if you have any trouble with it starting up again after you have used it, just open the battery compartment, adjust the battery and close it again. It may be just the one I've got but I had to do this several times, as the battery was quite a loose fit. Apart from that, brilliant!

I found that the Salter luggage scale is very easy to operate (just pull out the battery tab and you're ready to go), lightweight, comfortable, very accurate with light luggage and I would say accurate to within about .2 - .3 KG for heavier luggage. Don't let this put you off though as it is a small margin, which you can prepare for, and likely the same as all other luggage scales (due to the fact it's harder to keep it completely still when it's heavier).I would definitely recommend purchasing one though as it's a VERY HANDY product to have to avoid those eye wateringly expensive surplus charges (especially on the way back when you may not have any other way to weigh luggage)!

3.1.2013

I had previously bought luggage scales from a local shop, and they were not accurate. I tested them with an object of known weight, and they were so inaccurate that I returned them. I bought the Salter Scales because of the reviews and the product description on the Salter UK website. The readings have proved to be very close to those of the airport check-in scales. There have been comments about the poor battery life, and to avoid the risk of a flat battery (coin type), I remove the battery once I have finished weighing the luggage and keep it in a small plastic pocket with the scales. This must be one of the best buys for travelling if your luggage is potentially overweight.

I like the handle on this and the way that it fits to my suitcases. I can see the weight easily and it when it locks on to the weight it beeps & the weight remains on the screen. As far as I know it is fairly accurate. I have noted what others have said about the battery life and it is easy to disconnect. I chose this partly because of the other reviews but mainly because of the size of the handle. I am only 5'2" and trying to lift a large & very heavy suitcase and hold it steady whilst the luggage scale weighs seemed like it might be a bit of an issue. With these scales it isn't. I have also found that standing on the bottom stair in my flat also helps!
