The City Action Fire Engine with Lights and Sound is recommended for children 5 years or older and unlike some other Playmobil sets with similar age recommendations but which are actually suitable for slightly younger children I would say that in this case its an accurate assessment. The main reason for saying this is because of the sheer quantity of small, fiddly parts and accessories that the City Action Fire Engine comes with. Whilst most Playmobil sets come with a few little items like torches and walkie-talkies, this one comes with what seems like dozens of attachments and items of fire fighting equipment, from hoses to axes to cutting equipment. Children will love playing with these extras,but their size and in some cases their comparative delicacy means that they're really only suitable for older children.In some ways the same goes for the fire engine itself. Whilst its just as robust as all other Playmobil sets, the fact that its covered in doors and hatches that require a degrees of manual dexterity and strength to open mean that again older children will get more out of it. Our son is 5 and even he struggles to open the rear doors, and they're entirely beyond our 3 year old daughter.For older children however, the City Action Fire Engine offers great and varied opportunities for play. The sheer number of accessories and functions makes it very appealing. Its also a good size and is easy for smaller arms to carry between rooms.My only other and final observation for parents is that, as with all Playmobil, some construction is required out of the box. Older children (7+) may be able to take care of this themselves, but younger ones will need assistance or more likely and adult to do it for them. It took me about half an hour to put it all together, and I have several years experience of building Playmobil sets. Personally if I was buying this as a present for a younger child I would seriously consider building it beforehand and then putting it back in the box.Otherwise this is a great toy for children of the right age.

If you know Playmobil then you more or less know exactly what you're going to get. This is a substantial set despite a shortage of figures for its size (- one crew member only? Government cutbacks have hit the land of Playmobil too, it seems). It's a toy that I think pretty much any kid of 4 - 7 would be delighted with. Whilst it's not exactly cheap, the design and attention to detail, as ever, is excellent and make it worth the money. Hours and hours of design thought have gone into this fire engine. Whereas, anyone who's clocked the price of Lego recently - well whilst Lego's great, it has to be said that there's a lot of mark-up in there that is not necessarily reflected in what you're paying,if you catch my drift, which is not so much the case with Playmobil.Unusually for a Playmobil toy it requires batteries - 2xAAA - so think on and get some to avoid disappointment before you give it to a child. Adults should also be prepared to carry out some assembly work, as is common with Playmobil sets these days. It's easy enough to put together, though it does take a bit of time so you might want to put it together beforehand as well - particularly if you're giving this to a very young kid. Some of the parts are quite small so beware giving to anyone under the age of 4.If you're struggling with what to get a younger child for a present then you can't go far wrong with Playmobil. Just a pity about there only being the one figure - hence the loss of 1 star though the set can easily be augmented with other (cheaper) Playmobil City Action Fire Brigade sets if required.

I love it and so does the four year old. What is not to like. All the wonderful Playmobil quality, or depending on your point of view over detailing. For example the fireman has white gloves that attach on. Oh and then there is the sat nav sticker and the mobile phone.It has proved such a hit, flashing blue lights and a siren. Well actually I might go off the siren quite soon.If you are buying this as a gift would strongly recommend assembling the whole thing and then carefully putting it back in the box. It took me an hour to make this as some of the bits are so fiddly (to give you an idea there are 118 pieces in this kit. I even had about six small pieces left over at the end and found it impossible to put the wing mirrors on.Obviously I need to take my thumbs to the gym.Few points worth thinking about.- I was a little surprised that only one figure came with the kit. This is not cheap and really think there should have been a minimum of two.- The booklet also includes how to make the additional add on pieces - was very confused until I realised this.- If you are a relative novice to larger Playmobil you have to add a few yellow holding joints and there is a strange plastic tool you use. It took me a while to work this out.- As said before make it in advance.- You need two AA batteriesDefinitely work the effort and the price in my opinion

This is a fantastic firefighter set. I was blown away at the quality and attention to detail of the playmobil product. However - ignoring the age banding we bought this for my firefighter obsessed son’s 3rd birthday. He loved it but was not ready for the intricate pieces of playmobil. This set comes with so many tiny pieces of fire fighting equipment. Even when an adult joined him in play it often resulted in frustration rather than fun. Now that he’s reaching his fourth birthday he now has the required fine motor skills to click and connect the pieces and figures to get the full advantage of this toy. I can’t wait to add more items to our playmobil collection now that he is a little older.

This is a quality toy from Playmobil with fantastic attention to detail. The fire engine comes with so many accessories and small pieces that it will keep little ones amused for a long time. The lights and sounds also add to the play value although the 2AAA batteries are not included. It does take quite a bit of building which is part of the fun for older children but could frustrate those at the younger end of the age range so may be worth putting it together first. The only negative for me is that there is only one fireman included and I would have expected another one considering the price.

Ordered this for my 3yr old son's birthday as he's crazy on fire engine's and said that's all he wanted for his birthday. Seeing as he's got a wooden one and 3 fireman sam engines already I was struggling so went for this one even though he's on the young side got it. Anyway he loves this one. So many features and open/working parts. Some of the tiny bits I've kept back so they're not lost. All in all an excellent engine gor all budding fire fighters

The fire engine, when it was eventually put together was great and my grandson loved it and that is the reason this gets 4 stars...........BUT...the instructions for the assembly of the fire engine were atrocious .... My daughter, who has 2 degrees, thought they were the worst instructions she had ever seen......and she suggested, politely, that I do not buy any more Playmobile toys........we shall see...........

I'm a fireman and so I bought this for my little lad who's 3 expecting it to be just a big expensive lump of plastic so I was shocked when it turned out to be better stowed than my actual pump. It's got everything from dedicated RTA cutters/spreaders to hard suction hose and a few bits in between. My little man loves it with its flashing lights, 'nee naa' sounds and even a monitor on top. Worth the money

We bought this for our 3 year olds birthday and he absolutely loves it. His friends all loved it at his party too. Has a real sturdy feel to it. Was a little smaller than I expected but this makes it good for storing. The accessories are very small so I wouldn't say suitable for younger than 3. Really impressed.

fantastic toy. My son has hardly put this down since he opened it on his birthday - and we struggled to get him to open other presents, he loved it that much. Such great quality and so many details to it, it has led to hours of imaginative play. word of advice - build it before you give it as a present!

Excellent Playmobil quality but far too fiddly for my three year old. Should have heeded the age range on this occasion. The engine itself is great but there are so many little pieces that my son’s dad had to put together. They’re all pretty much lost now. A few more years and it would be perfect.

great, as all of Playmobil! One does have to assemble it and it was a little tricky to do. I had a young man who loved playmobil in his childhood help the young boys (age 5-9). We got the water spray set in addition to hook up to the fire engine and I had very happy boys!!

Amazing set. The details are astonishing. My son adores it. A must for any firefighter fanatic. Stickers supplied with a lot of different international emergency numbers. Ours sports the 999 so other than right hand drive looks like a realistic British fire engine. Ace.

Bought for 4 year old nephew's Christmas - he loves it and it's one of his favourite toys. Bit time consuming and fiddly to set up, which we did together, and I now know the fire engine inside out. The attention to detail in it is really good, very impressed auntie!

Great product, there is an issue with the front wheels and they are not turning, possible assembly issues though. Lots of little bits that can be stored inside the truck. Little boy loves the addition to his play Mobil and I would recommend.
