These pens won't be for everyone. If you like scratchy ballpoints that require you to overcome a significant amount of friction to write with, and that leave a deep dent in the paper, then these rollerballs pens are definitely not what you're looking for in pen.If, however, you want the fluidity of writing with a fountain pen, but without all the fuss of filling the ink, cleaning the nib and so on, and with ink that dries almost instantly, then these pens might be worth considering. The pens come with a little drop of something like resin on the tip, to make sure the ink doesn't dry out in storage. It breaks off easily when you're ready to use the pen (there's a message in tiny letters on the pen that you must retract the nib when not in use, presumably to stop the ink drying up). The ink then flows easily and smoothly - it really does feel like using a fountain pen, albeit one with a fairly cheap plastic barrel. There's a reasonable textured rubbery finger-grip. The build quality of the pen is reasonable - unlike many other pens I've owned, no bits have broken off, and I am the sort of person who fiddles with my pen. There are instructions on how to insert an ink refill (I hope you won't be surprised to hear that you need to twist the top of the pen to open it) but I suspect that as they are being sold in boxes of ten, the expectation is that these pens will be used as disposables.I'm left-handed, which causes me terrible smudging problems when using a fountain pen. The ink from this pen dries on the page so quickly that it is dry by the time my hand brushes over - this is a huge help.No-one has ever told me what a lovely cup of Nescafe I'd given them, but I did have that sort of experience with one of these pens, when I lent it to my daughter to fill in a form: she commented on how pleasant it was to write with, and asked if she could keep it. Which is a fair testament to how lovely they are to use, I suppose.

I’m a university lecturer and, while student work is generally submitted and marked electronically these days, it’s nice to have a teacher-style red pen for correcting things in hard copy. A cheap biro might suffice, but I’ve always preferred liquid gel pens, so I jumped at the chance to try these.I find that they write fairly well, though I have quite small handwriting and the line can be a little thick in places. (The pictures aren’t the best example of my handwriting, as they were mostly of things written on a train.) This isn’t such a problem if mainly used for underlining things or adding ticks and crosses though. The ink doesn’t dry instantly, which means it can smudge. In one of the photos I wrote the word ‘Smudge’ then ran my finger right over it afterwards (not as I wrote). As you can see, there’s significant smudging. This could be a problem for some, particularly left-handers, though it wouldn’t ordinarily be such an issue for me.Overall, these aren’t my favourite pens for writing, but I was never planning to use them for much of that anyway given the colour. For the uses that I have for them, they’re fine, but I do need to be a little careful not to smudge the wet ink.

Only the price loses these pens a review star - I'd like to see them cost under a pound each when bought in a box of 12.NOTE: when you come to use the pen for the first time, you must remove the waxy blob that acts as both protection for the nib and to prevent leaking in transit. The gel ink flows much more smoothly than the stickier type used in most ball pens, making these pens so much easier to write with. The nib is 1mm, which is a good thickness for general purpose use. The blue colour of the ink reminds me of blue "Quink" fountain-pen ink, so it's not as dark as a normal ballpoint's blue ink, but nonetheless easy to read. It doesn't dry as quickly as ballpoint ink,so can smudge for a few seconds after writing. The pen barrel is made of a translucent plastic that feels quite brittle, but there is a grippier rubberized section low down where your fingers will rest. This makes the pen a bit fatter and more comfortable to hold for long periods. The pocket clip and button are made of a thicker, more flexible plastic and feel like they should last well in normal use. The action of the button feels especially solid.

The first thing I noticed upon trying the pen was the smoothness in the feel of the movement of the point over the writing surface (plain paper initially), and this smoothness is reflected in the pen's writing quality, with the metal ball tip giving a bold, consistently solid line.On plain paper the ink does not smear, even if rubbed with a finger immediately after marking. It's a different story on shiny paper, though, where I found the ink needed about 15 seconds to dry. At least the pen writes, with good quality, on shiny paper, though a little extra pressure is needed to ensure the flow of ink.The pen will write for a line or two with the nib pointing upwards, and then fail.It then takes a bit of scribbling, with the nib pointing downwards, to restart the ink's flow. Worth bearing in mind if you do any writing whilst lying on your back, as you might in bed.Altogether a good-value product.

I've been using Pentels for years but this is the first time I've used a retractable one. The point writes with approximately one millimetre thickness and the gel ink certainly comes out easily enough and dries quickly so it doesn't smudge (worth knowing if your a left-handed writer). This BL110 box has twelve pens and very reasonably priced at well under a pound each. Bearing in mind the cost I wonder why Pentel sell refills for these pens (the LR10 refill box isn't that much cheaper than this box). The little ball cap on each tip is a clever idea, so the ink doesn't dry out before the pen is used for the first time.

I use red pen a lot in my job - so I've given these a thorough testing! The ink flow is good and for me the 1.0mm nib produces nice and clear writing easily and consistently. The rubber grip is comfortable and it feels like a quality pen. In bulk as this is, I think this is great value. Each one lasts quite a long time. I did find when first using that I had some smearing, but the ink really takes minimal time to dry and once I was used to it, it simply wasn't an issue.Makes what impersonally find a tedious job a little more bearable, this is as good as any that I've tried. I would recommend.

I always use Pentel gel 1.00mm pens, I love their vibrancy, the bold mark they make on the written page. The ink flow is reliable and smooth, the width of the line just right for me. This bright red pen has a push in top, retractable nib, so the pen doesn't write by mistake in the pocket, on the go. Another great thing, you can buy refills! They work out less expensive than new pens and are better for the environment. There is a neat clip for train spotters etc to use in their jacket pockets, but I use mine in a rucksack or handbag that has slip in compartments for pens.

These pens write really smoothly with no dragging. The ink is a beautiful bright blue colour, which is easily readable. The only issue I have with them is that they write a really thick line, which is probably my own fault for not understanding the sizing information given. Just in case you're a pen novice like me, these do write a very thick line, which is lovely when writing generally but can be a problem if you're having to write something in a small space of something with a little bit of detail. Overall though they are a lovey pen.

These are really nice pens, which are chunky but not too heavy, good to hold, and write very smoothly, Very good indeed, and I'm a big fan. It's worth mentioning that this box contains twelve pens (the product page doesn't actually say how many are in the box). A nice touch is that the pens each come with a tiny blob of clear gel on the end of the writing tip, presumably to avoid them drying up before they reach you. This just needs removing before use, which takes literally a second. Recommended.

I undertake a lot of data validation at work and use a red gel pen daily to update proformas. I preferred these pens to my usual brand for a couple of reasons; they have a retractable nib and a rubber finger grip. The grip area looks bumpy but it is in fact smooth. The ink runs easily, allowing the nib to travel smoothly across the page. A great gel pen, but like all others it’s impossible to tipex over the ink. 12 pens in the box.

Very nice plastic retractable rollerball gel pen with a pocket clip, rubber grip and a slightly thicker 1mm ballpoint that produces nice, natural handwriting results. These pens are pretty much perfect for use at school or in the office - you buy them in a box of 12 and they work brilliantly but the price means that you are not too disappointed when one inevitably goes astray.

What the blurb does not tell you is that this is a pack of 12 pens. They have a fairly flimsy feel to them but they write well.Initially I thought I had a dud pack as I could not get any to write, however on closer inspection (must get new glasses) there is a tiny disposable protective cover on the point which just pulls off.Once I pulled this off all was well.

I like Pentel products. These follow that trend and, as advertised, well under £1 each represent good value. They are well made and the rollerball is easy to use for a left-hander, especially as the ink dries quickly. They are easy to hold with a nice rubberised grip. They are slightly thicker than the obvious alternative

These feel nice in the hand, having a thick, soft rubber grip and also write beautifully - the ink flows smoothly and fluidly - doesn't feel like a biro at all. The effect is also pleasent - the ink pops out bright and bold on the page without leaving pressure or ink marks on the other side.

These pens have the classic flow of the Pentels of old, and a nice royal blue ink, and are excellent to write with. At a push you can draw with them, though 1mm is quite wide for this. The grip of the pen is good and I like the design.
