If you are reading this, you probably care a lot about the best cheap pens you can buy. tl;dr: just buy these already!Compared directly with the Pilot G2 and Pentel Energel (both in 0.5mm and 0.7mm), these Inkjoy 0.5mm gels are hands down my favorite. Yeah, I had written off Papermate as a contender long ago too, and I'm glad I gave them another try.I never thought I could find a pen that:1. Could write smoothly like a fountain pen2. Could draw accurately like a felt-tip3. Had deep dark ink like a SharpieBut the Papermate Inkjoy 0.5mm gel does that, all for about $1 a pen.I know you care about this, so some head to head comparisons:vs. Pilot G2:- The Inkjoy is MUCH smoother. The 0.5mm Inkjoy feels similar in smoothness to the G2 0.7mm, and the 0.7mm Inkjoy is smoother still (though the line on the 0.7mm is broader, which is why I prefer the 0.5mm generally).- The darkness of the ink is similar, though I find the darkness of the Inkjoys to be more even than the 0.5mm G2.vs. Pentel Energel:- Pentel Energels are renowned for their smoothness, and overall I have to say the Energel 0.7mm is the smoothest pen in this class.- However, the 0.5mm Inkjoy is smoother than the Energel 0.5mm and ALMOST as smooth as the Energel 0.7mm- And, the Inkjoy is much better for line drawing. Thinner line and more consistent darkness, whereas the Energel feels more "ballpoint-like" to me when drawing (messier and less consistent line).0.7mm vs. 0.5mm: The 0.7mms InkJoys are much more common, and I got a pack of them first. They write phenomenally smooth, but I found them a bit too wet. The stroke comes out closer to a 1.0mm bold. I found the 0.5mm to be a better all-in-one package. And here's the clincher for me: I find that I can get a writing experience pretty close to a fountain pen with the InkJoys - that is write with little pressure. The only other gel pen I've had this experience with before is the Energel 0.7mm. However, that same 0.5mm InkJoy also lets me draw as precisely and accurately as with a 0.5mm G2.I've tested these on a variety of paper, mostly on common cheap spiral-bound notebooks. That's another point: Gel pens (in general) work great on cheap paper where fountain pens flounder, and the InkJoys are no exception. The one slight downside I've found is that the InkJoy ink does tend to be wetter and bleeds through thin paper at spots. Mainly a problem for the 0.7mm, and only at criss-cross points when drawing with the 0.5mm. Not an issue for me, as I just write on one side of the sheet, but might be something to consider if you want to use thin paper like in Moleskines. If you've read all this (and probably dozens of other reviews too), I highly recommend just getting a cheap pack and trying them out. Papermate has a winner on their hands.

One of the things I like to do when correcting papers or making notes that I want to stand out is have a selection of nice different colored pens that have different colored ink in them.WHAT ARE THESE PENS LIKE?These click pens are covered over half of the barrel in a soft grippy plastic that indicates what color ink is inside the pen. The front of the pen has a clear plastic front on it which is tinted with that same color but is see through. The ink itself is very bright and pigmented. The ink tube inside is filled about halfway up the pen, but is larger around than most ball point pens. There is a plastic tip on the pen to keep the ink from flowing when you first get it,so you have to remove it with your fingernail or something similar.HOW DO THESE PENS WORK?The pens are surprisingly smooth and write very well. There is enough drag so that I don't feel as if I am losing control of the pen, but not so much that it is hard to write with. The ink does not seem to blob up much when using, but I did notice that if you hit the writing just right, it will smear a tiny bit. It is not that bad, however, and I would not say it is a big problem. The colors are all very brilliant and heavily pigmented, making these look like the perfect marriage between ball point pen and gel pen.WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THESE PENS-colors are all brilliant-smooth to write with-grip well any spot on the pen-don't roll off a desk-no caps to loseWHAT I DON'T LIKE ABOUT THESE PENS-ink should be filled up a bit more-tiny bit of smearing if hand runs over just rightTHE BOTTOM LINEIf you want a nice pigmented pen in brilliant colors that is easy to use, this click pen is a great choice. Although it smears slightly from time to time, in general, it is an easy pen to use and pretty classy looking. The inks are all pigmented and the purple especially is dark enough to be used for general writing when blue or black is usually preferred. For the price of these pens I have rated them four stars due to the slight smearing from time to time and the ink not being as full as I would like to see. I would rather rate them four and a half stars if I could, however.

This is a review of the 4-pack, which includes Pink Pop, Lime Light, Bright Blue Bliss and Charming Purple colored pens.Nice pens, not great, but definitely the selling point is the ink. First of all, I love pens and have a zillion of all kinds and all colors and shapes. My every-day, go-to pen, however, is the Pilot G2 with purple ink. The main problem with the G2 is that the ink takes time to dry, ranging from a second or two on up – way up, depending on how slick the writing surface is. So smears and smudges can be a problem with the G2.The ink in these new InkJoy pens has a comparable appearance to the G2, but the InkJoy dries significantly faster. I did some side-by-side comparisons, and the difference was amazing. I could not get the InkJoy to smear at all on many surfaces. It will still smear on a glossy paper if you touch it immediately, although it does smear less than a G2.I have purchased InkJoy pens in the past and had a lot of trouble with the click mechanisms. They were garbage; after limited use, many could not be retracted without pushing on the point. These new pens have a nice, solid click to them, so definitely an improvement. The grip of the pens is a bit too wide for comfort for my hands. There is no taper to them at all. That’s a mistake. They should narrow a bit at the grip. Out of curiosity, I put an InkJoy cartridge into a G2 pen, and it worked. The InkJoy colors are great, really vivid and rich, except for the purple. The “Pink Pop.” “Bright Blue Bliss” and “Lime Light” are aptly named. The “Charming Purple,” lacks charisma. It is very, very dark, and at a glance, looks almost black. I use purple ink for the majority of my writing, and I want my purple ink to look purple. If PaperMate ramps up that purple a bit, this set could be a real winner. The Wild Berry color was not in this pack; perhaps it would make me happy.I saw no glops or blobs from the InkJoy.So all, in all, good pens, better ink. Fewer smears, no blobs, a bit large in the grip for my tastes, but probably suitable for many people. The colors are good except the purple lacks pizzazz.

I'm a pen weirdo. I've been a teacher for thirteen years, and in my early years I accepted anything that writes. Now, I have my favorite and it's InkJoy Gel Pens. I accept no substitutions (though, Bic Cristals will always hold a special place in my heart.)Here's what's great about them:1. They come in vibrant, fun colors! This particular pack has two of my favorites-- teal and purple. Both colors are appropriate for what I do with them (i.e., writing in my planner, writing notes on stickies, giving student feedback, etc. I'm not signing legal paperwork over here!) The lime green is a little light, but overall, InkJoy makes pens that are legible-- no crazy unreadable neons (except in the larger pack, where yellow is an option-- and I barely use that one for that very reason!)2. The flow! Man, flow is important when it comes to my pens, and these pens have THE BEST FLOW. Gel pens can get ruddy and choppy and can be very unfun to write with, but not these guys-- they are smooth, effortless, beautiful!3. They don't smear and they don't bleed. I dunno, other reviewers complained that they did, but maybe they used them wrong? I'm going to chalk it up to user error because I never ever have a problem. I've used these pens for a few years and it's always a great experience. The only drawback, I guess, is the price. They're more expensive than a ball point pen, but hey, you get what you pay for, and a good writing experience matters to me.

Rich, Smooth Color* two-pack of purple and red 0.7mm pens *I have a weakness for rich, saturated colors, and use my colored gel pens so frequently that I actually run out of ink. Over time, I’ve realized that while the detail you can get with a fine-tipped pen is lovely, for longer-term use a medium pen offers enough detail without the problem of “digging” into paper and causing skips. The short version is that these gel pens write smoothly, without digging, skips, or the need to scribble to get the ink flowing. The colors are pleasant, although you may find the purple to be on the dark end of the color spectrum. I write rapidly and I’m left-handed,which means I smear a lot of ink unless I’m very careful or I’m using pens with quick-drying ink. I had no smearing when writing with these pens, even when I tried to cause “normal use” smearing. These InkJoy pens by Paper Mate are 0.7mm thick, and wrote evenly – without skips or gloops – right out of the package. Part of that is probably down to the bead of wax sealant on the tip that you peel or flick off when you’re ready to use them. After writing a full page with each pen to get a feel for the fingertip cushion and to see whether any issues developed, I compared them with some similar pens. For color, I pulled out Uniball 207 pens in red and purple, which are also 7mm gel pens; these are made in Japan and are from the following set:

What you get: a pack of Gel pens (all the same colour).Note that these are fine point pens, so be sure you are ordering the right point size for your purposes. Fine point (for my purposes) is fine for writing in a notebook in meetings, jotting down things on post-it notes, and the sort. For things like signing cards or letters I prefer a medium point. This pack of pens and this brand specifically is one of my favs in all styles and colours. The pens consistently put out good quantities of ink, and are usable right away without having to wait until the ink is ready. Just remove the very small rubber tip from the pen and you're good to go.The colour on these was consistent across the writing and doesn't generally "lose" any ink as the strokes go along. I have found that the medium point does seem to have a bit better ink coverage (which is to be expected), but it's not noticeable in my use of the pen.I've got several of these at home and at work - and while it might feel like buying a pack of this many pens is overkill, you'll find that you'll have these all over the place in your backpack, at work, at home, laying around, everywhere. I can always count on these pens to work every time until their final breath is drawn and the last of the ink tube is empty.Overall a solid fine point product that you'll get plenty of use from, or to share with a friend.

So far, so good on this 8-pack of "Ink Joy" gel pens from Paper Mate. Our family is trying out the black ones, 0.7mm "Medium Point".So far, they provide a deep, rich, thick black line when writing, with no gaps or faint edges. Although they are billed as "quick-drying" and "smear free", these pens aren't a perfect solution to the age-old smearing problem that all roller-ball and gel pens (and ink pens in general) suffer from. If you're a lefty who drags their hand across what they've just written, this isn't the perfect solution. There's likely to be some smearing, even after a few seconds. For what it's worth, there is less smearing than I expected. As a lefty I've long learned to arch my hand around and drag it across ABOVE the line I'm writing...The pen is thicker than a typical ballpoint, with a "comfort grip". Paper Mate directly references their competition, the PILOT G2, saying the Ink Joy gel pens dry "three times faster". I can't verify that. The G2's blurb says it writes "longer" than its competitors. Someone needs to get each of these pens head-to-head, for smearing and how long they last. Hello, Pilot? I'll do it.Amazon is selling these pens for $10 for an 8-pack, which is fairly reasonable for this kind of a pen (Pilot G2 8-pack is $8.57), but the "list price" at this writing is $24.33, which is just ludicrous.

Like many of my readers, I am always on the lookout for a perfect pen so I was delighted to receive these Paper Mate Inkjoy Gel Pens, Medium Point from Amazon.I am testing the red and blue model and they are both here on my desk. The first thing I must tell my readers is that a bit of protective plastic is placed over the point of the pen and must be removed with a fingernail. That done, the pens are ready for use. Some reviewers have complained that the pens smudge – not mine. Immediately after drawing a line I tried repeatedly to smudge the ink and was not successful. The ink from the rollerball dries on contact. The box the pens came in says “medium point.” I am going to disagree and say that the points are closer to fine than medium. This is OK with me.Writing with these pens is a pleasure. They are medium build with a soft feel between the fingers. The ink goes on the paper smoothly and effortlessly. The mechanism works by pushing the top of the pen to expose the point. The amount of ink in the pen is clearly visible through clear plastic in the middle of the body of the pen.$3.50 per pen seems an appropriate price for this quality of a writing instrument. If the feel of the pen is right for the reader of this review, I think he or she is going to like these pens.

These pens are great. I traditionally use red, green and blue pencils to reference my work papers and red to review work submitted by others. I decided to give these a try, and I love them! The colors are so vibrant, and my favorite is the red one! One of my team members complained that their submitted worked glowed when I sent it back for corrections! The pen glides across the paper, and I like being able to write smoothly with no scratching. The ink dries instantly on regular paper, but on glossy paper, it will need quite a bit of time, which isn't practical for me. I used it on one of the glossy tab covers of my Commit30 daily planner, and it smeared.I have carpal tunnel syndrome and some pens and pencils are too small for me to grip comfortably for a period of time. The size of these pens are just right, and they are not slippery. I prefer writing in my planner and journal rather than having a computer version to type in. I find it more satisfying to actually write out my thoughts than type them, and with these pens, I can write a long time without getting a cramp in my hand.I recommend these pens! They are really nice to write with, in fact, don't loan them out because pen thieves will want to keep them!

Believe it or not, there is nothing like using a smooth, colorful pen to take notes or jot a quick card. While some think writing is a lost art, it really isn’t. It is something that with the right instruments, can be fun and enjoyable. These pens are no exception. For a little less than $7, you get a convenient 2 pack. This equates to a little over $3 each.An Ink Joy is a retractable pen, with a medium point. It comes in bold, vivid colors. This two pack contains a teal blue and neon red pen. These pens write smoothly and glide across the page easily. The rubber body is comfortable, and easy to grip/hold. And it doesn’t slip while you are writing. What really sold me on these pens is the fact that the ink doesn’t smear.**Note: I only used my pens on traditional paper (notebook and printer), a composition pad, envelopes and regular card stock. I didn’t try to write on photo paper or anything exotic or unique. I didn’t have any problems with bleeding or smearing. In conclusion, I would definitely recommend these pens…especially to teenage girls who enjoy writing in diaries, jotting notes, writing cards, or poems. With an added bonus being that the colors will make it fun and entertaining.

Pros:- Quick drying- Smooth and even ink flow — the pen writes flawlessly, without scratches and skips of ink; the pen literally glides over the paper- Smear free- Body design — very visually appealing; with a solid & simple plastic body, and window to see how ink is left, the pen gives off a very “stylus” like feel. The minimalistic design is eye-catching and definetely plus point in my opinion. The retractable design on the top is very firm, allowing you to feel the force of the spring inside. The ergonomic design is not designated in a set place, but rather wraps around the entire body of the pen.- Considerably light weight- Plethora of color optionsCons:- Not left-handed friendly —holdingand writing using this pen feels a little uncomfortable in comparison to using it with my right hand- Might look a little “bulky”- Semi expensive but I think the quality and material of the pen reflects on the price.- Availability to get individual colors that is not blackIf you are willing to spurg a bit on a good pen, PaperMate InkJoy gel pen is hands down one of the best gel pens I’ve had the pleasure of purchasing and using.

The pens are extremely comfortable to hold. They have a semi-soft rubber coating on the majority of the pen body (aside from a small window to see the ink level) and it's top notch. The ink inside dries very quickly, especially when compared to the "previous generation" of InkJoy pens, which would take ages to dry and constantly smudge. It's very pleasant writing wit them, but they have an issue which still follows them from their previous generation. I've attached a photo of how they sometimes seem to release too much ink and it becomes a blob to the side. This happens rarely but it was one thing that very much annoyed me about the previous generation so I was disappointed to see it still happening. However, those are just pet peeves from a stationery addict. I highly recommend these pens as they have been a joy to write with. They're extremely smooth to write with and the pen itself is very comfortable to hold. Also, I would recommend purchasing the ink refills for anyone considering these as they do go through ink relatively quickly and buying another pen is very not cost-efficient.

__ Ink Joy's have surprised us and several others with their ultra-smooth writing properties... it's something you have to try to appreciate.__ The Ink Joy's write quite well on many (but not all) surfaces that other pens and gels don't handle well.__ The ink dries quite a bit faster than most other pens or gels and thereby avoids smudging as long as the line are typical single stroke entries -- a real bonus to people who must handle paperwork considerably after filled-out. (Note that multiple stroke entries that you've made to thicken lines or make entries solid on a hard to write-on surface do NOT dry faster than normal and will smudge easilly for quite a while.)__ These pens appear to last longer than many others - more ink supply - under the usage that I give them daily. The quality of the tip and the extra-easy writing advantage seem to hold up very well over extended life of the pen, too.__ BOTTOM LINE: An amazingly smooth writing experience that outperforms and outlasts competitors for a nice price, especially when the longer useful life is also considered.

These are my favorite pens!I have bought the 8-pack colored pens and countless black pens for office work. Personally, I really like the look of the pens. I like to use the colored pens to make notes and for important dates while the black pens are for most of the day’s work and signatures. The colored inks are nice, the pens write smooth. I find that they dry fast and while dark, they do not bleed through the page. The price is reasonable at a little over $1 per pen. Just a FYI, due to their ink, these pens will not dry on plastics well. For example, ziploc bags or plastic bags. They write well, but will take a long while to dry. Not a big deal to me,but in case others were wondering.I had to knock off one star because I have dropped several pens (ON CARPET) leading to the points becoming damaged and afterwards being “scratchy.” I don’t know, I don’t have this problem with most other pens.Despite that, these will continue to be my most used pens for a while. I will just have to be extra careful that I do not drop more.

Excellent pens gel or otherwise. My review is for the black fine point (0.5 mm). This pen does not smear, has very dark ink, and is very comfortable to write with. The diameter is just right, not too slim or wide. The balance is even and good as well. The drag is moderate which is what I prefer. The action super smooth and there is no skips or blobs when you write. What I mean by drag, is that on standard notebook paper the pen has a little bit of resistance which helps with writing neatly. When pens have no drag I tend write a bit sloppier. The medium point just put too much ink down for me so I chose the fine point which is perfect. It lets me write small letters in my todo list and calendar, while it provides thick enough lines for standard notes and the very dark/black ink is easy to read. I am somewhat amazed at the low price for this pen. It is also refillable, but about $1 a pen I cannot image the refills are any cheaper. Also, the supplier provided the order fast and in a good packaging - greatly appreciated.
