From time to time a new game hits the market that is just stunning in its simplicity - this is one such game. Fantastic for parties it should be a must for any discerning gamer.Pass the Bomb is a game of words. Each game consists of thirteen rounds and the idea is to come up with words that fit a given criteria whilst playing pass-the-parcel with a bomb. Confused? Never - it's too easy for that.~~~~~~~~~~Playing pieces~~~~~~~~~~A game set consists of:lots of cards on which between 2 and 4 letters are writtena dicea bomb(see I said it was simple)~~~~~~~~~How to Play~~~~~~~~~Basically, thirteen cards are drawn and placed in the centre of the group.A card is drawn from those 13 and over the course of the round the idea is to come up with a word that contains the letters written on that card in sequence. To make it slightly harder the dice is rolled and this determines where the letters on the card may not be used within a word (at the beginning, at the end or no restriction). The person to start then sets of the bomb (by pressing a button on its base) and says the first word passing the bomb onto the next player. This continues round and round with each player having to come up with a different qualifying word from the others as the bomb is passed round. The bomb, once set off, ticks an almost cartoon-like tick (very Tom and Jerry) which can't fail to set your own heart on a faster track until suddenly the bomb explodes! If you have possession of the bomb when it explodes you lose that round and claim the card. The winner is the person with the least number of cards at the end of thirteen rounds with ties concluded by sudden death rounds.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~What Makes it Good~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~+ The look of panic on someone's face when the bomb is passed to them and they haven't thought of a qualifying word is wonderful.+ Simplicity - This game is so simple that one read of the rules (and they are short) is all that is required.+ The bomb - not for the easily scared but it really adds to the tension. The bomb may explode at any stage between about 15 seconds and three minutes! (random each time) and so it is almost impossible to cheat!+ Fairness - because the bomb is random the best person may not always win so it enables mixed age family groups to play without the standard cry of "I always lose cos I'm the youngest!"~~~~~Levels~~~~~The game can be played on various levels depending upon the players participating. You do not have to use the dice to determine where you may or may not use the letters. You can also allow or disallow derivatives (eg play, players, playful, played etc).

Brilliant game, very simple concept and very educational. The object is to take turns making words from the letters on the randomly picked card, while the 'bomb' ticks, and the person left with the bomb while it goes off keeps the card. The winner is the one with the least cards.I think it is a better game than Scrabble for larger groups, as the timer prevents the usual scenario where one person deliberates for 20 minutes while everyone else falls asleep. Not just a game for quick-thinking youngsters - my 76 year old mother thrashed everyone else! My only (slight) criticism is that there is very little luck involved, so the game quickly weeds out those who are good and those who are rubbish at it.Two can play, but it makes it a lot harder as you don't have time to think up words between turns, and if the players are unevenly matched it will not be much fun for the loser.Am laughing at some of the 1* and 2* reviews here, some saying the bomb is not loud or realistic enough, or doesn't deliver an electric shock (?!), and another saying the opposite, that they didn't know that what they were buying involved a pretend bomb, and it wasn't suitable for children. I guess some people would complain because you could make swear words in Scrabble ;-)I can't comment on the durability of the bomb, mine is fine but it doesn't look like it would take much abuse. Had to grab it off my friend's 4 year old who was about to throw it against the wall - I think a rubber or foam outer casing would be an improvement.

In this game a pool of thirteen cards is exposed one card at a time (with each card showing a short sequence of letters), then the special die is rolled stating where in a word it can and cannot appear, then the timer on the bomb is started. You must then think of a word that (a) contains the letter sequence on the card with no interruptions by other letters (e.g. if the card had the letters 'SAC' then words like 'ransack' or 'sacking' would be acceptable, but not 'stack' because the T interrupts the 'SAC'), (b) obeys the instructions of the die as to where the letters can appear in your chosen word, and (c) doesn't duplicate any words that have already been said in that round - once you have you can then pass the bomb onto the next player.Gameplay continues like this until the bomb plays an explosion sound; the person holding the bomb when this happens takes the card and keeps it beside him/her. Once all thirteen cards have been played the person with the fewest cards is the winner. This is one of those games that's so simple to learn and play but is a lot of fun - and you really have no idea when that bomb will explode (sometimes it does so within ten seconds of activation, sometimes it lasts much longer!). Also, because it's not based on any particular fad, it's timeless.Definitely recommended, although the £15 asking price is a bit steep.

A real shame the bomb is not clockwork like a kitchen timer (rather than money, time and environment wasting batteries). A bit pricey for what it is. However an excellent game with excitement (you don't know when the bomb will go off)and stimulation (I love quick fire word play). It can also randomly go off as soon as you're handed it and this random factor makes it 'fairer' for younger or slower players. The basic idea is simple to grasp i.e. you can only pass the bomb on after you've said an appropriate word using letters from the card and if it goes off in your hand you have to keep the card. However the instructions could be clearer e.g.clarifying the significance of the black and white sides and whether the letters need to be in sequence or not and printed on thicker, better quality paper (my son accidentally tore them in the excitement of a party, they're really thin). Also could give options for easier play for youngsters e.g. not needing to use the dice to determine the position of the letters. (Also would be clearer for dice to state position of letters in the positive e.g. must be at the beginning rather than not at the beginning). As it is I guess one needs to make the exact rules up and agree them in the group. Fine, but surely the sellers of the game should already have done this? Ha, maybe time for me to divise my own game.

Pass the bomb is a cracking game for wordies! If you like word games, you'll love this. It's simple (the best things always are!). You have loads of cards, a dice and a ticking bomb complete with fuse! Like the ones in the old Batman series! The bomb, which is activated at the start of the game ticks until it makes an explosion sound. It contains a random timer so you will never know when its going to blow! The basic principle of the game is you have the bomb and you cannot pass it on until you answer the question. So you need to be quick thinking or its "kaboom!" :)An example question would be give words with the letters "OLL" (in that order) in them?So you get the bomb which is ticking and would say "TROLL" then pass it quickly on and the next person might say "MOLL" and so on it goes until somebody can't say a word and BANG!We've had this for a few years now and never tire of it. It has loads of replayability (is that a word?) and is never boring. Brilliant educational family game.

I bought this to help my grandchildren who are aged seven and eleven. My grandson, the seven year old, is a reluctant schoolboy and is far more interested in Lego than anything educational. It is a reasonable game easily mastered and ideal for a rainy day.The actual bomb is a bit of a disappointment. It requires a tiny tiny screwdriver to open the battery cover, if you have saved onto those tiny screwdriver sets found in Christmas crackers they are ideal. The bomb also does not give off any explosive sound more a dull raspberry. It keeps them occupied, and us also for a couple of hours.Don't expect much of a wow factor!

A great game that I was surprised with as I didn’t think it would be as much fun as it is. It’s super easy to learn how to play and takes literally seconds to setup when you do want to play. It’s a good laugh when there’s a few of you sitting around playing this and can be very tense when the bomb is ticking and terrifying when it goes off! My young son actually found it too stressful and now won’t play it again but we still play this game with family guests when he’s busy with something else.A great game that is guaranteed to produce a few laughs.

I got this for Christmas in 2004 and it's become a Christmas Day tradition every year since. Best played after dinner once copious amounts of alcohol have been consumed. Even the most intelligent are struck with brain freeze and everyone will be rolling about with laughter. Previous reviews that complain about batteries - my originals lasted 2 years and I then just bought spare ones incase they ran out mid game. I've used 3 sets so far. The cost of batteries is minimal when compared to the amount of fun you will have. Don't hesitate!! Enjoy.

We find this game an excellent way to help our young grandchildren to improve their english. It is great fun and a good aid to education and we can really recommend it. The time during which we are playing is full of laughter and it is certainly a good way to instruct them.My wife teaches English as a Foreign Language to foreign students and has now stolen Pass the Bomb to use with them, and is amazed how much enjoyment that it has put into the lessons. The one negative comment is that the instructions could be much clearer.

Christmas 2014 will be the 9th where Pass The Bomb has been enjoyed by my family. It's quick to play and always puts a smile on faces. I won't go into great detail, as others have covered it so well, but it's surprising how much you can suddenly find yourself panicking when it's your turn because the word you had lined up in your mind is used by the previous player......... and the bomb is "ticking"Yes the bomb explosion noise could be better but I don't think it spoils the game at all.

I love this game its great, my kids and I play it all the time.#I have two problems with it though,1) It comes without batteries, without which it doesnt work and the game is quite expensive for what it is.2) The screw to undo the battery section is so small it was impossible to get it out. this meant we had to break the lid to get the batteries in and now play with selotape keeping them in..These two things are easy to change and I think it would make it the perfect game.....

I love it -I bought it for an after dinner game for family get togethers, but my family aren't so keen. We play a simpler version than the restrictive ones on the cards (trying to find words ending in some letters is much harder than you think). We play that you can guess a word with the given letters ANYWHERE in them (beginning, middle, or end) and STILL the rest of my family find this so stressful, they only play to make me happy and for a very short duration. Oh well...

I bought this toy to play with adult friends at New Year having played it once before and had a great laugh. I was then looking for a word game to play with a group of 10 year old children at school and decided to give this a try. They loved it - were a bit excitable, but it was educational as well as enjoyable. It made them think of word parts and it would be easy to make your own phonic patterns to use. Passing the bomb adds the excitement and the fun element.

This is a perfect addition to any ELT teacher's classroom. Yes it is primarily designed to be used as a party game...but you can adapt it and use it in the classroom. It is a great, fast paced game which really helps foreign students think in English and recycle their vocabulary. You can use it at any level (simply don't play with the dice if you want to use it with beginner/pre-intermediate levels).Highly recommended! Always goes down a treat in class!

I bought this for the family just before Christmas and we had a great time playing over the holiday. It's great fun for any number of people to play. The only small issue I had was with installing the batteries. The tiny screw for the battery compartment is very fiddly and annoying to open. For what is effectively a box with some cards and an electronic timer, for this price, I'd hoped they have would included batteries! Still - it's a great game.
