I bought this for an FZ-200, a very good camera indeed but for photographing distant birds you sometimes need more than the 24x zoom it provides. This takes the zoom up to 40.8x, which is about as much as anyone can handle without using a tripod. The image is just as sharp with the teleconverter as without, and there is no trace of chromatic aberration even at full zoom.I would rather have the FZ-200 and this converter than the new FZ-72 with its 60x zoom. The FZ-200's ability to hold f2.8 to the end of the zoom is particularly valuable for pictures of moving birds at long distances in poor light, and I can get pictures which would be quite impossible with an FZ-72, whose aperture narrows towards the end of the zoom.In fact I can get pictures that would be impossible with any other bridge camera. One caution: the large lenses in the converter make it quite fragile. My first one fell out of my pocket in a padded case and broke, and I had to order another.Having used this lens for a while, and been very pleased with it, there are a couple of things I'd like to add.One is that there is no lens hood for it, and you really need one as sunlight glancing diagonally into the big lens can wreck a picture. I made one out of the top of a polypropylene pint beer glass lined with black sticky-backed plastic. Cut to the right length, it slides up the tube of the lens from the back and stays in place quite well. Not elegant, but it works. The other is that you will certainly get into the habit of keeping the lens permanently screwed on to its adaptor tube, so that it can be attached to the camera quickly -- this becomes easy with practice. You therefore need a case for this assembly, which again isn't made. You can get a toiletries case from Muji which fits it perfectly, made of black nylon with a zip so that it looks quite like a camera accessory case.

The Panasonic tele conversion lens DMW-LT55E is a true value addition to the Lumix FZ200 camera which caters for certain specific requirements. Don't expect eye popping improvements in the magnification but do expect improved versatility as well as overall camera capability. The lens itself is pretty basic and it would be unfair to compare it with a DSLR telephoto which burns a virtual hole in your pocket and would qualify as an investment for anyone who is into pro or semi pro photography. Tripod usage is advised for best results though the camera OIS does a decent job. You would require the Lens Adapter LA7 to connect the lens to the camera. The down side is that it transforms a point and shoot into a DSLRish mammoth with the increase in weight and size. Bottom line - buy it if you require to keep a watch on the neighbors or for taking photos of the moon and other distant objects but it is not an essential accessory and you won't miss having it in your bag...

When used with a Panasonic FX150 (and the lens adapter DMW-LA5E) you get about 40x *optical* zoom, which is enough to get a clear shot of a robin from about 20 meters away. So, after years of trying, I finally have a camera that can take decent shots of birds, from a reasonable distance !The lens feels very well crafted, and ships with a neat sturdy plastic container, to keep it safe and clean.A small bag is supplied with string handle ties. However - Recommend that you get a decent camera bag, that has enough room for your camera and all your lenses + the lens hood + cables. I bought my bag (LowePro Adventura 170) in a walk-in street store, just so that I could make sure everything fits well.Only negative, would be that the lens and lens adapter are quite long and not at all discrete! It also takes a couple of minutes to attach the lens and adapter to the camera. However, the long zoom and the fast performance of the FX150 are well worth the trouble.

Panasonic DMW-LT55E 1.7 x Tele-Conversion Lens For Lumix FZ100, FZ48, FZ45 and FZ38I'm well pleased with this lens after spending some time with it on my FZ100. My aim was to get close to garden birds and as close as possible to water bird at our local nature reserves. I looked at various options such as digiscoping (using my 32X telescope) or using a larger converter e.g. 2.2x. I opted for the 1.7x outfit because it is very neat and handy, which I find increasingly important. Also, the optical results are fine (providing you don't go bananas with the zoom). Naturally, a tripod is more or less essential and I have been using a Velbon Ultra Maxi F with a pan and tilt head which together weigh 9.48kg.It easily hangs on a bootlace round my waist and in a hide it can sit low. This makes the whole outfit very useable. My last pictures were of a nice pair of foraging snipe, with plenty of detail.

I usually take macro pics with my Lumix Z38 from about 6 inches away. However i wanted a bit more distance . What i should have done was bought the small macro lens . Not realising i started using this anyway and the min distance is about 5.5m and suprisingly it gives you just over 700mm (equivalent 35mm ).I have taken pictures of Butterflies and also lizards at a distance and i am really impressed with the results, it seems pretty good for birds etc aswellStrictly speaking you should use a monopod or tripod i suppose ,but all my photograhy is hand held . I am amazed at the quality of the image and its not far off the macro image aswell . Like the camera its light to carry around with the adaptor aswell. The camera and this addtional lens gives tremendous versatility. Its great value for money. All you ever need for nature photography and great value.

Brilliant addition to my Lumix fz330 together appropriate extension tube DMW LA7 . Got some stunning photos at 11/2x to 2x (using digital ) giving equivalent of 60x to 80x zoom of the moon with minimal edge degradation when shown full screen on my 24" monitor. All hand held as well leaning against a wall ( odd failure due to shake ).Where sun shines across moon at 1/4 to 1/2 moon photos show smaller craters very clearly. Not quite NASA standard but very acceptable.Works from around 8x zoom up to 24 with no ring. Vigneting?Loss of 2 F stops ( 2.8 to 4 ) not a problem with moon as it's well lit. Can't wait for spring / summer to capture some wildlife.

This lens works as intended: it gives you 1,7x the focal length of your camera. Used in a FZ150 that's equivalent to 1020 mm in a 35 mm film camera! So it's really great for bird photography. Image quality is quite good, no great problems of chromatic aberration. Of course with the lens attached you loose the flexibility of the 24-600 mm camera zoom, and the camera is not really "compact". Anyway this is a great solution when you need a long telephoto lens with only a fraction of the weight... The pictures obtained with the fz150 + this lens have'nt the same quality as those obtained with a DSLR, but are quite good for general use.

WOW! Takes the already impressive 60x standard zoom of my FZ-72 to over 100x without the compromise of digital zoom, still giving perfectly crisp & clear images. Can be screwed direct to the front of the lens without any noticeable issues other than needing to be around 4x optical zoom to combat vignetting. Noticed that a lens adaptor tube is "necessary", and although I have one on order there doesn't appear to be any real need for it, as there seems to be no sign of the extra front weight affecting the performance of the moving lens barrel in any way. However, will see what difference the adaptor makes once it arrives.

This converter is amazing changes my old FZ30 into a new versatile camera. Photos below show first shot using standard lens ,second shows full magnification with tele converter focusing on plaque on far wall. It simply screws onto my FZ30 lens, with no adapter and works great. Have to thank all Amazon On Line Helpers who read my Question and told me l did not need an adapter. So if you have an old FZ30 and need a telescopic lens this is good value and produces sharp photos in good light conditions. However ,some cameras do require an adapter,so check your model No.

Got this lens for panasonic FZ45. Very good lens .So why 4 out of 5.Well if you use it in low light conditions the pictures suffer from sound at full zoom (40 to 41 X zoom ) . However it is an brilliant lens in good conditions. It is capable of taking a clear picture of a house brick at five hundred metres. Camera shake is a problem so you may want to consider purchasing a tripod as i did. Use the timer to further reduce shake. Buy a tripod with a panning handle to smooth out video on full zoom. Must be used with adaptor.

First of all, you will need the adaptor tube before you can fit the lens. It gives stunning super-tele photos, ideal for wildlife but two things to be aware of. The auto focus reacts slower if the light levels are not too good and at times, because the light hitting the sensors is reduced by the extra lens, the shutter speed is not fast enough for the pictures being taken.A tripod or monopod is a very handy tool to have in these circumstances.Well worth the purchase price.

Having only taken telephotos on a small comact which I have now upgraded to a Panasonic FZ100 which has a brilliant zoom but I wanted to get closer, hence I purchased the DMW-LT55E at first I tried to take shots by holding the camera but found it to awkward to hold steady a problem that I imangine that I will overcome with practice. I was given the advice to use a tripod which I have purchased and now I am pleased the results I am getting. Brilliant little lens.

Item was easy to fit and set-up through the camera menu system. Very effective improvement to the already high quality zoom on the camera. I tried photos of birds on the feeder in my garden, and the results were excellent. I'd recommend the use of a tripod and maybe a remote shutter switch for a shakefree result. I used a Panasonic equivalent adaptor (half the price) rather than the brand model, but it still does the job. Well worth the purchase.

My Lumix FZ100 was already a great camera. But now it's a fantastic camera. I purchased several adds on behalf of the husband , as a Christmas present to myself.I have enjoyed taking photos for years. But last Christmas upgraded my lumix to a FZ100. This Christmas I requested add one. One being this lens. I can now take a photograph at 500 yards with great clarity.Would highly recommend. Just need a large holder for the camera and lenses now

Brought this after reading else where that it worked with the FZ1000 - it does even though it isnt specifically designed to work with this model and I couldnt find confirmation on a Panosonic site - I just use a 62 to 55 step ring - pictures are as would expected - acceptable - shot in raw and adjusted in LightroomHavent fully tested but initial images are usable as long as you dont expect images of the same quality as a DSLR (own both)
