I use these as down-lighters in 3 rooms in the house - kitchen, cellar and bathroom. They are excellent - I've had only 1 fail out of 24 to date, they've been installed for 3 years and the kitchen ones are on for at least 8 or so hours a day in winter.They cast a pleasant warm light - Dimplex call it 'Very Warm White', it gives a natural light to work, cook and apply makeup under, with none of the blue/green 'cast' of older fluorescent fittings. The temperature is 2700K for those who want to know.The 18 watt fittings are sufficiently bright to use as primary illumination in a room at 1800 to 2000mm centres.They dim very nicely and can be taken right down to almost nothing if the dimmer units you use are good enough.
