I have owned one of these for quite a while, and I have to say it has been brilliant, and is a great option for those who require faster flash recycling times. You could spend a whole lot more on one of the many different packs offered by Quantum, however, this PS8 really does the job and it can be had for an awful lot less, three or four times less. I use it with an Nikon SB910, and it will also work on the SB800 and SB900 speedlights too. What you see in the photos is the outer case which contains a high capacity battery that is removed for recharging and is very simple to swap out with another if need be when on site to extend usage (you can buy spares), this also means that if a battery comes to the end of its useful life,

I purchased this unit as an add-on to a Nissin flash gun used on a Canon camera. It cut the recycle time down from about 4 seconds (with rechargeables) to 1 second (on full power) which was my prime requirement. My only gripe so far is the poor outlook socket which failed to secure the power lead in the event of the slightest external stress (used on outdoor pursuits). I have cured this with a Velcro strap. The connection needs to be a screw type. Otherwise a great product so far.

I ordered the canon version but only find out later on that my neewer flash gun takes the Nikon cable. The company was very helpful and we exchanged the cables and now I can photograph away. If you have a newer flash gun, get the Nikon cable!
