I've been using this AirCard for about a week now, and I have to say that it's very good at what it does. And what does it do? Well it provides a wireless hotspot using a data sim from a mobile network of one's choice. In my case I have been using it to provide a hotspot so that my daughters can use their iPads in the car.In terms of speed I've found it to be pretty quick; when there's a 4G signal around I'd say it's faster than my home broadband (standard BT ... not fibre); on 3G it's still quite reasonable.Setting up is very easy; buy a data sim card, charge the battery and switch it on. Look for the AirCard's network name (NTGR89DF in my case)on one's device and enter the password (helpfully displayed on the AirCard's screen). And that's it; a wireless connection that works well. Data usage is displayed on the AirCard's screen.Should one wish to delve deeper into the AirCard's abilities then it's clear that this is an amazingly complex piece of kit hidden away behind a simple user interface. Pretty well every parameter of the device can be accessed, but this needs to be done by using one's computer to log in to the AirCard. There are also free apps available for Android and iPhone (but not Windows phones) that make it very easy to check the status and settings of the AirCard. The device is supplied with a mains USB charger and battery (no sim of course) and a quick-start guide that will probably give enough information for most people. There is a very detailed user manual available on the Netgear website ... just Google aircard 785 manual; it covers in great detail, everything anyone might want to know beyond basic use. For example I learned that it is possible to tether one's computer directly to the AirCard using a USB cable ... useful if a computer doesn't have wireless capability. There are optional extras available including antenna to increase the mobile signal, and a docking base to turn the AirCard in to a full-on modem with Ethernet connections.I mentioned earlier that I've used this for my daughters' iPads when we're away from home. In the past I have allowed them to use a hotspot from my mobile phone; however, my data allowance is only 1Gb and it can get used up rather quickly, particularly if apps are downloaded. The AirCard allows more freedom and it's easy to monitor usage. Another advantage is one has a choice of data providers, so should I be on holiday in remote parts of Pembrokeshire (an annual destination) I can buy a sim card for the network with the best signal. In summary I think this is a great bit of kit that needs very little effort to create a wireless hotspot for up to 15 devices. It's easy to use for novices but should also cater for the more technically minded. If one already has a decent Smartphone with an 'all-you-can-eat' data allowance and has no need to connect 15 devices, then perhaps this AirCard would be unnecessary. On the other hand, it is great not to worry about how much of my data allowance the girls are getting through and also to have freedom about which provider I want to use.So ... I like the AirCard ... a lot!

Nice unit -Charged it up - placed EE SIM card into the slot and it connected to the Internet straight away at 4G.Tried my giffgaff provider SIM (O2) and it did not auto-detect. So; no internet connection. This was easily sorted using my computer and by inputting the APN details and setting up a Profile (this could be a problem if you don't have computer access). So - before you take this anywhere - be sure that all your SIMs work. If you do not do this - and you are in an area without any other internet and computer access; you will be dead in the water. The reason I hark on about different SIMs is that I travel the UK a lot. In some areas I can get EE access and others not - same as O2 and giffgaff etc.So having a SIM for the strongest signal provider is essential. Being able to hot swap SIMs is a must for me.For this unit - I have lost a little confidence - but have decided to keep it with an EE card in this unit - and my Huawei with a different SIM provider.Setting up as a Router can drive you mad - with the constant screen display for WPS.Overall - not as user friendly for an instant connection as I had hoped - I purchased in November the Huawei E5372 4G SIM Free Mobile WiFi UK (Genuine UK Stock) - White (150MB/s) from Amazon - and this has worked first time with every SIM and no Profile settings were needed. Straight out of the box.None of the points I have raised are an issue with someone that is internet savvy - like myself. But just sticking a SIM card into this device that is then not auto-detected could be an issue for some less savvy.Just heed this - and I am sure you will be delighted with this well made - long battery life unit.PS: I downloaded the Netgear app to my iPhone. This enables you to make changes to the configuration; such as APN and other carrier settings; without a computer. Really good little app. HOWEVER - the iphone will need to be able to access the internet.Well impressed as it provides the same setting adjustments as the Computer.UPDATE - Since first review.............HOWEVER - In use - and speed tests - It is consistently Slower by an average of 25% than my HuaweiJUST SO SLOW. Profiles not fully configurable. I tried to enter EE details that do not require a password - but the unit always entered a password of some sort; in asterisks. This meant I could not set it up properly. My hopes dashed - they need to iron out this sort of basic stuff - after all - EE is one of the UK big 4 Providers - and it fails. UNIT ON ITS WAY BACK for a refund.GETS GOOD THOUGH - A better piece of kit THAT WORKS and at a reduced price - Does not have a colour screen - but IT WORKS -http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00IZBILM0?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

I travel a lot in Europe and US, and a lot of the time in non-urban areas so badly need a reliable, stable cellular signal that can be used for data. I will confine my comments to the use of this device abroad.I have previously owned 4 different 3G WiFi routers/dongles/MiFi devices. All these devices suffer from one major obstacle to achieving my goals. Cellular coverage abroad is by and large HOPELESS outside major cities both in US and mid-Europe. And this device is no help where the partner network abroad is transmitting on 2.6GHz (as a lot of the French and US networks do), great for distance coverage, hopeless for building or car penetration, great for capacity, but how many cars do you see on a toll motorway in France?) or is being utterly miserable in allocating a minuscule amount of bandwidth to Johnny Foreigner.I have come around to thinking that the determining factor as to whether you will find this useful in your travels is to work out whether you are most likely to need data whilst in a car, a hotel room, camping in a field or in a cafe in a town with a number of masts. If you are in a decent cellular coverage area (and remember it’s not the device but the coverage and the frequency that the network is transmitting at) you will swear by this device. If you’re not, the AirCard will NOT pull in a signal in a weak signal area, it will NOT be stable enough to stream a film, video or football commentary without outages regardless of how much buffering you allocate. But if all you are using the data package for is emails, why are you spending so much on a 4G device? It will cost twice as much as one of the much cheaper 3G devices which will do the job just as well. Those of us who will stump up for a 4G device, want and expect decent download speeds, stable connections when we are streaming, no outages, and to be able to use a VPN (we do want to use iPlayer abroad, and listen to the footy & cricket commentary without Auntie Beeb getting all uppity).Well you won’t get it if, like me, that’s what you were hoping for when using it abroad. Unless…….You stump up for an aerial. There are 2 TS-9 ports to attach an external antenna (they go for £15-a toy don’t waste your money up to £31 for Netgear’s well worthwhile one) and I found that sticking one up on a rear window when travelling, increased the signal strength from 2 to 4 bars straight away but didn’t improve download speeds one jot. It made Google Maps/Waze actually wok for turn-by-turn instructions, and make it possible to check the availability of beds in a local hotel, and the menu in a diner up the road. But listening to the cricket in a hotel room or on the move? Forget it.

I received the Aircard AC785 as part of NETGEAR’s Friends and Family scheme for evaluation. This review is intended to provide an objective summary, for the benefit of those considering purchasing. My use of the Aircard is primarily for use during business travel, particularly when in the car, with an EE PAYG SIM (I’ve found 3G/4G coverage to be available in most areas, even during motorway travel). Set up was effortless, simply insert the Micro-SIM, pop the battery back in, and away we go.The unit is small and light enough to carry in a bag, or even a jacket pocket without becoming bulky, and is ideal for use in the car glove box, particularly if you have passengers with WiFi enabled devices! The colour screen is a nice improvement over the older AC762S model, and the menu neatly displays key metrics, such as the network status, WiFi name and password (which can be hidden if desired), and amount of data used. What stood out for me was the amount of useful WiFi options. Features more akin to a full home router such as dual band functionality, ability to set WiFi signal strength, ability to block devices, and availability of a guest network option were nice to see.The battery life was also pretty strong. I achieved about 8 hours of use (the product description mentions up to 10), although I did have the dual band radio enabled. The micro USB port allows it be easily charged/powered indefinitely, so this was more than sufficient for my needs.I have been thoroughly impressed with the performance of the unit, and it’s reassuring to know I have the perfect companion should I ever experience an internet outage at home!Well recommended.

I actually got the Netgear AirCard 810S model. Not Netgear Aircard 810 as described in the announcement. I'm not realy sure if they are the same device. All I know is that the AC 810S are being sold by network carriers not sold directly by Netgear company. Netgear sells the model AC 810 straigt to customers. I'm still yet to find out if there are any differences between the 2 models in terms of hardware and firmware(i guess the firmware is from the network carrier not from netgear for AC 810S model. As far as I'm concerned, the AC 810S does it's job and covers what I need from it to do: reliable internet and fast, strong signal, fast wifi. From all mifi out there on this category I'll definitely put this as one of the best.A bit pricy from my opinion of bought as new. It suppose to have an option to choose between cat. 9 and cat. 11 LTE but it doesn't have that(I guess is on AC 810 model)

Got this to allow me to work whilst commuting via train which, as it is done via a remote Citrix connection, is required to have a very steady and low latency connection to work properly. The AirCard delivered on all fronts and on my 40 min train journey I only normally drop connection once (which can be excused as it happens in a rather large tunnel) but what surprised me was the speed. With only 1/2 bars on a 4G connection I was getting 45Mb/s which is the same speed as my Fibre internet at home! It really is fast. The interface is simple and clean, battery life good, and the only complaint I would've had ended up being a temporary network issue with EE.I cannot compare this device to any of the other portable hotspots but if you are looking for a fast, dependable, 4G MiFi device, I wholeheartedly recommend the AirCard.

I'm with Vodafone and coverage isn't always perfect. So I use this Aircard with a 90 day/6Gb sim card running on the EE network. The combination of Vodafone and EE works for me, so I can always be online when out and about. For most of the year the iPhone App stopped interacting with the device (wifi still worked), but over the last few weeks the software on the device updated itself and a new App was released. The battery tends to last all day (12hrs) depending on usage and I only turn it on when I want to use it to save the data limit, so most of the year it is turned off, but ready to go. It's small and light enough to carry in a pocket or in the top of my rucksack. Build quality is very good. The interaction with the App is great (when it works...), you can control who and what devices are able to access the wifi.

I use this for my business when out and about (which is always) and have a good deal with ee for data each month. The display on the device is good to see amount of devices connected, data used per month (If you set this up), battery remaining and network password. I have also set up a 'Guest' network where the password changes each time I power up the device, good for letting someone in for a time. You can make multiple changes to the device either through the Aircard app or via the normal webpage type interface page.No touch screen on this one and I don't think the navigation button is the greatest on the unit but that's just a minor niggle.Overall a great little mobile (MiFi)device that has had many of my contract personnel and friends have admired.Being a Netgear router you can't really go wrong.

I have two of these devices, one for myself and one for my wife. It's probably one of my most valuable travel gadgets.I get a great signal, much better that my phone. I also have the netgear antenna, but it's not adding as much value as I thought. The interface is easy to use. The battery is on the small size 2000MAh, but what I do is to leave plugged in on a battery pack and it works all day.I wish the simcard was easier to access. If you use nano sims with an adapter, sometimes it's tricky to get the sim out.The baterry life and the simcard are minor issues in my mind, that's way I bought a second unit after having used the first for about a year.Good job Netgear!

I travel all and a mobile hotspot with a huge data simcard really helps me. The menu is intuitive, and simple to use. Don't do what I did and not read the manual and hit the keys to setup. I chose Spanish as the default language. I then had to read the manual THOROUGHLY to work out how to factory reset the device. Lesson learnt (probably!). this device, when used with an EE card, has got reception in places where previously I have had ZERO reception. So I am impressed. I use it with the app, so that I can control the setting better. All the info is on the screen though. Life changing device for the tech savvy traveller.I use it with an EE 6GB card, also bought on amazon.

This is a well finished product and is sensitive and works even in poor signal areas (For me)I am very satisfied with the purchase and am connected to the EE service for my Internet connectionIt was supplied with a protective film over the small LED screen. It has been in use now daily for about3-4 months, and the protective clear film is still in perfect contact - still protecting my screen- as it'sin a harsh environment and has rough treatment, (Often dropping on the floor). I have no hesitation inrecommending the "NetGear" for a good connection! ~Allan~ UK

I love this device, it does what it states on the box. The mobile wifi works in any environment and I have found that it never drops connection. My previous mobile wifi device was from EE and this was for ever dropping connection and it was difficult to determine whether the device was on or off. The display panel on the Netgear AC810 gives you all the relevant information you need and with it being a touch panel it makes life so easy when making adjustments. This is a must have device if you regularly use a computer on the go.

8.8.2017

This is a really useful product. Yes I can use my phone as a hotspot, but this is handy to keep my laptop connected while on clients site and off their guest wifi. I had a 3 sim available and in this item, the download and upload is better than my BT broadband at home when hooking up to 4g. The screen is a nice touch, the battery lasts a good time, it'd easy to charge. It's about the size of a pack of cards so easily portable. The next test is in the car to allow the kids to connect while we are on the move.

28.11.2015

Battery life is very good.I wish it had the reassurance of a mechanical power switch rather than having to hold and press - software is strange in that, if powered off, when you plug in to charge it automatically powers on and you have to shut it down again - why? The web interface and Android app are both good and stable but the layout could be more intuitive to speed up finding specific options. These are relatively small niggles - it's the best mifi I've used.

6.11.2017

This is a great product. Works straight out of the box although you have to provide the micro SIM card. Very effective for use in the car or on holidays when Internet is not available. You can connect several devices at the same time such as iPads, mobile phones, etc and use them simultaneously on either the 2.4GHz or 5GHz networks. I experienced no Internet dropout whatsoever in several weeks of use. Throughly recommeded.
