I was exceptionally bored the other day so was trying demos of games I wouldnt really play usually on Xbox live arcade.. things like Ratatouille and Banjo Kazooie, and I stumbled across the demo of a game called Mini Ninjas.. I played it and thought it was great fun, so bought it, and it is the most fun ive had on my xbox since pacman CE: DX, Outrun, and TorchlightIts a 3d platformer, with quick, fun hack and slash combat, some long range stuff with the bow and arrow, multiple characters with different trails.. relaxing and decent music, colourful and clear graphics..The game is very straightforward but has a few things to give it depth, like scrolls that give you spells to fire, the best being the ability to become any of the many animals that roam the lovely levels.. this is good fun, and it also allows you to see smoke near important items (their sence of smell). There are hidden shrines to find that require some exploration to discover and will give you new spells, there are statues to collect and animals in cages you must free.Im a 2d Platformer man at heart and normally dont like 3d platformers as the camera annoys me and they just dont seem as playable as the good old 2D games, but I loved this.. no sifting through reams of boring dialogue (although there is a story, it keeps it to a minimum).. no getting lost in huge sprawling maze like levels (but plenty to explore and lots of secrets to find). You can use stealth to sneak in long grass or on rooftops undetected, launching sneak attacks to kill enemies in one hit. You can balance along ropes that connect buildings to avoid large groups of enemies, or find secrets. You can use your hat as a little boat to go white water rafting, or just take a relaxing float down stream.. even do a spot of fishing to obtain health giving sushi. You can use your hat again as a sledge to zoom down snow covered mountain, even outrunning an avalanche. You can get a charge attack that when held down slows thing down and lets you move the cursor across multiple enemies, and when you let go your character attacks all selected foe in a quick burst of deadly ninja skills! Its bloody good fun, so I recommend it to anyone who enjoys fun, platformer style games with action, a bit of light levelling up and spells.. and decent aesthetics. One of the very few games that doesn't annoy / frustrate me, or leave me wondering if I actually enjoyed the hour or two I just spent playing it (like a lot of other games). So MINI NINJAS .. one for fans of old skool style gaming in a nice modern (but still cute and retro(ish) disguise. It's Technu, God of War, Shadow of the collussus, Snowboard Kids and more all condensed into a sweet little package!

I did not expect to enjoy this game as much as I did. From looking at the box-art, I expected it to be average at best. But I was wrong-I really enjoyed this game and I was disappointed when it ended. The graphics are very pleasing to look at. They are not ultra realistic by any means, but they have a charming look to them. They almost look like something you would find in a children's story book. The characters are well animated and are very cute. The levels are beautiful, I especially enjoyed forest level. I often found myself stopping just to admire the scenery in this game. You can play this game using stealth to sneak up on enemies, or just charge ahead and slash everything to bits. The battle style feels very much like something from the Legend of Zelda series, with bits of Tenchu thrown in (except without the gratuitous violence)As you progress through the game, you can unlock different ninjas, and they each have their own weapon and way of attacking, for example Shun uses a bow and arrows, Hiro uses a katana, etc. Certain enemies can only be defeated by using a certain character to exploit their weak spot, for example, Futo is the only character who can defeat the giant samurais. This game isn't too challenging so casual gamers and children won't have trouble with it, but it's not overly easy either. There are lots of items to collect which provides a good change of pace from constant battles. You can collect herbs which can be mixed to create new items, and there is food scattered throughout the levels that you can collect and use to restore the character's health when they are hurt. There is a good variety of level design, so you won't get bored with playing similar looking levels, for example, there are forests, snowy mountains, a temple etc. There is quite a lot of fighting but it is balanced out with exploration. The violence is minimal (there's no blood when characters are attacked, and when the enemies are defeated they just turn into small animals)My only criticism of this game is that the controls can be a little complicated and difficult to remember at times, especially when you are in the heat of battle, but it's not a huge problem and won't stop you from playing the game.I really liked this game, and I hope IO Interactive will make a Mini Ninjas 2.

This is one of those games where you have to go and find things for somebody - in this case the old guy who is teaching you to be a Ninja, and it's much more fun than I thought it was going to be. The graphics are done in a cartoon style. and really suit the game, and there are 'meditation' mini-games that involve drawing over faint Chinese script and pictures, which are very evocative.Although the game pans out in a rather linear fashion (most of the tasks happen one after the other), I found myself getting quite involved with the characters, and watching the plot unfurl as the game went on was quite enjoyable and relaxing. The controls are very logical, and most of the puzzles aren't going to tax you too much - but that's part of the fun. I'm still nowhere near finishing it yet, but have really enjoyed getting involved so far.Recommended for youngster and oldsters - sometimes games like this can be frustrating when you get stuck on a part where nothing seems to work; this won't happen with this game, although it engages the braincells enough to keep it on the right side of interesting. One problem I encountered is that at times the controls are difficult to master - running along the side of a wall for example can prove awkward, and working out how to use the 'possession' spell was not as straightforward as it might have been.Saving the game can only be done at the end of each 'chapter' - which can take quite a time to reach, or when you meet one of the magic bird-like creatures (who can also teleport you if you're lucky). This isn't perticularly convenient, and can mean having to replay 5 or 10 minutes of game if you don't manage to reach the end of a chapter in time.Taking these shortcomings into account, I'd still give this game 7 out of 10 if I could - so 4 stars seems about the closest.

I first played the demo when it was available on the PlayStation Store, not expecting too much from a simple-looking game. But after a speedy download and installation, I could not stop playing it. A great storyline with clever features that allow you to play the whole game smiling with no frustration whatsoever. From this excellent demo, doubled with the unbelievable price, I did not hesitate with the full purchase. I was only intentionally buying the game for the trophies but got much more for my money. With a super delivery speed, I was playing within 2 days. Since that day, I have chosen Mini Ninjas over other top price games without a moment's thought. Every time being met with twists, turns and the same brilliantly crafted storyline that has earnt this game the 5 star reptuation it so gracefully deserves. The trophies are coming along well, with none of them seeing like a chore. The storyline was much longer than I would of expected, and am therefore thrilled to have to go back and play it on hard difficulty. Even once you have completed the campaign on hard, there is still plenty for you to do! There are jizo statues to collect, animals to free and ingredients to hoard. If I had to highlight a minor downfall of Mini Ninjas, the main one would be the ease of challenge. If you are looking for a cheap but tough game, look elsewhere as this will not challenge you like games do on frequent occasions. To be honest, you can probably tell this by the 7+ age rating. But if you are looking for something new, something that hasn't been done before and just something you can play frustration-free; I would not hold back with handing over your money.

Problem I normally have with games is getting bored of them before I complete them. Mini Ninjas has so much going on and has so much charisma that this didn't happen and I loved every minute of it! Examples of variety: sneaking up on enemies through the tall grass, rafting down rapids, high-wire acrobatics above enemy guards, avalanche rides down snowy mountains, changing into wild animals such as bears, fish and pandas! On normal difficulty it's not particularly hard but that meant I could just enjoy the game and story and explore for its own sake - whilst the levels are basically linear, there's no great pressure to follow a precise route through each level in order to avoid dying. You end up having a choice of 6 ninja to play with.As other reviewers have said, you can just slash through most levels using the default character, Hiro, but my favourite was Shun who might be a bit psychotic but he's got a cool camouflage ninja suit and is an ace shot with his bow!I'm a massive fan of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time and Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands and, whilst on the surface Mini Ninjas is very different from these 2 games, I got a similar chilled-out vibe from all 3 games and, like the 2 PoP games, Mini Ninjas is a game that I wanted to play again as soon as I had completed it - just because it was fun!As I said, I played through on normal difficulty and I guess it took about 8-10 hours with a moderate, but not obsessive, amount of exploration. At the time of review, Mini Ninjas can be bought for under £15. At that price, it is definitely a bargain!

Now I know it says 7+ on the box but at 28 I had a great time! Playing as Hiro the last remaining ninja sent to discover the truth behind what is happening in the land by Ninja Master, it is your job to rescue you fellow Ninja friends and defeat the Evil Samurai Warlord. For what is marketed as a childs game the story is actually very well told and the game play is quite tactical. As Hiro you have various spells which you can cast to defeat your enemies, which breaks up the battles from being purely sword based. Also as you progress through the game new characters unlock and you can play as them for more variety; for example, Futo who carries a giant hammer is the only character who can defeat the large Samurai. The levels are more free roam than I expected, although all paths will lead to the same place there are hidden shrines and temples to find along the way. It's also nice to be able to go all the way back to the start of a level if you miss something. I found the graphics beautiful, with stunning backgrounds and cute characters. From a gaming point of view there is little challenge, you can easily achieve 1000G with one playthrough (I would recommend using a guide though for all the collectibles). You could probably complete this within 8 hours, personally I preferred to play it a couple of levels at a time as a break from other games I was playing.I highly recommend this title for players of all ages, if you're unsure try the free demo on XBL it's a a good representation of the game.

When I downloaded the Demo on the PSN a month or so back, I was really impressed in the art style, the sound, and the fluid gameplay. Additionally, it was a REAL demo with about 15-20 minutes of playtime vs the usual 2-5 min demos that you get these days. The demo was enough to convince me to pre-order the game. I've played through 3/5th of the game so far and I'm really enjoying it. The general combat is overly simple, and there doesn't seem to be much difference between which of the mini-ninjas you fight with to clear the masses. Yes they each have their own abilities, but there are no situations that require that strategically pick which play and what abilities you should use to pace any specific challenges. The only exception I can think of are the samurai that are formed from bears (can't remember the name, but they are the big guys) are easily defeatable with the abilities of the biggest of your ninja gang. The boss fights are fun so far and I like that. The fishing doesn't seem to have any depth. It seems like there might have been a bigger role planned for the feature at some point but was cut.The story is entertaining enough, and the intro movies that you unlock are top notch.Generally speaking, it's a great for mindlessly blowing a few hours. Most people will like it, as long as there is not expectation of a challenging fighting title.

Mini ninjas is alot of fun & as the title of this review says, its tenchu lite. The game seems to be aimed towards the younger market but im 37 and this tickled my inner child (not in a way that can get someone arrested mind.) The graphics are lovely to look at,in fact,if Pixar were to make a ninja game, this would probably be it! One of the fun things you can do in this game is you can take control of any animal, whether its a rabbit or a fox or a bear or dog,and later in the game you can take control of any of the bad guys. Hiding in tall grass makes you invisible and using magic can get you to hide in a bush a la metal gear solid's cardboard box.Sadly though, you can very easily just slash yourway through the baddies without having to use any of these things which's a real shame, and thats why im only giving this game 4 stars. The developers could've made it where you had to use these abilities to complete a level. But saying that, the game is still alot of fun, with lots of magic spells to find to having a hat that you can sit in while you fish, theres also a level where you use your hat to escape an avalanche! And to be honest,i actually enjoyed this game more than 'WET' that's just been released! So on a whole,if you want a game thats lovely to look at and fun to play for that inner child then look no further and take a chance with Mini ninjas!

I played Mini Ninja's on PC, found it at bargain price and loved it to bits. I never finished it due to my laptop eating the disk... And so upon stumbling onto this page, naturally I bought the PS3 version! The characters are cute and the enemy are quite comedic,[SPOILER]i.e.: if they see you they freak out and start screaming 'mini! minnnii minni ninjaaa!', sometimes the little ones even run away and I love how when the generals are by themselves they hide behind their swords and shake :L There's even a a boss that farts and uses his fan to fan his farts at you haha. Basically you are the worlds/nature's last hope of survival and you have to thwart evil by kicking some serious samurai buttwhile saving animals which you can possess and walk around as - unfortunately you cant fight with these animals except bears (if I remember correctly - you can use bears to fight)Seriously, if you're looking for a fun game to relieve/take you away from all the first person shooters, this game is for you! I'd recommend it to everyone! :D

I bought this for my son last week for his 7th Birthday and he loves it. I adjusted the difficulty setting to easy (under options) and he was off. He has needed little help from me in solving puzzles and he has loved playing it. I have had to do a couple of bosses for him (one involved a rather strange beast with an original flatulance attack!!) I do think it's a shame there is no online or co-op modes as it does look fun and i probably would be tempted to join in. (we had a blast doing Lego Star Wars togethar and i was hoping for a for a repeat) On the limited bits that i have played it reminds me slightly of Zelda (although so far not as big)My wife cannot criticise that there is any violence (even the people that you kill (for reasons i have not quite worked out)turn into animals and run away -ahhh)My only criticsm is that i cannot get on the PS3 as much myself now (Nazi zombies don't just shoot themselves you know!!)

This is well worth a purchase, it's a fun game to play, great looking and great level design all through (with the possible exception of part of the 'sliding down the mountain' level & part of the final 'inside the house' level where the camera angles make it a bit tiresome).Play it as an exploration game to find all the statues/altars and free all the animals within each level, and it's an enjoyable romp. You can approach the combat with the straightforward use of the square & x buttons for sword/stick fights,or throw a few smoke/exploding bombs, or use spells you can collect from the hidden altars throughout the game.I only found uses for Hiro(the main mini ninja), the archer ninja, the female stick wielding ninja & the big guy with the mallet, but more than enough to keep the entertainment value high.If you liked the demo, the rest of the game is a similar type of gameplay in well crafted levels.Recommended!!

I downloaded the demo and loved it so I ordered the full game. The game itself is brilliant, great story line and very well put together. The cutscenes are also very charming and the voice acting is brilliant, it keeps me giggling throughout the game as the Samurai keep yelling 'Ninja! Ninja! Ninja!' in their ever so cute high-pitch voices. The levels are well thought out and there is enough space for a lot of roaming about (which is essential if you want to find all the Jizo statues and rescue all the animals). The gameplay may seem basic at first, but when you get into it you can enjoy a wider range of characters and also majic attacks (as Hiro).Possibly my favourite levels were the castle levels as the roaming inside them is very fun as is trying to stay hidden yet pick off enemies at the same time.A superb game, well worth the money and most certainly worth your time playing it!

I didn't know anything about this game until my wife picked it up, and I'm very glad she did. If platformers are you're thing then mini-ninja's should be right up your street. Simple to master controls, cutesy characters and a host of cool moves. Visually the game has a distinct and beautiful animation style. The enemies are animals that have been transformed into evil ninja warriors, and defeating these warriors leave a little poof of smoke and a cute little animal that hops away, very Sonic the Hedgehog style. While there's eventually six different mini ninja's to play as I found I barely used any but the chief hero Hiro, and many of the items I collected went unused. The only improvements I could suggest are creating situations that require the use of these characters and items, but still, a neat little game.

I love this game because it has more than one purpose: First, it's a fun game to play in its own right (cute li'l ninjas all over the place); second, it's a bright and cheerful game, which has a calming effect when you've just finished playing some horror, edge-of-your-seat game.I always use Suzume character; mashin' up enemies with her flute then playin' some sweet tunes aawwwww - she sooo cute! But only hiro can use kuji magic so you have to switch back every now & then.Amazon has spared no expense tryin' to get me to sell this game back to them. Perhaps it's in demand now? Strange, this this is one of the early PS3 games that no one cared about.Just got my plat for this game a few months ago.It was mega fun. Worth gettin' if you can find a copy because I ain't sellin' mine!

I'm a big fan of most ninja stuff. I got this game for my birthday a few months ago and it is just great. The characters are fun and really cute! It is actually quite a challenging game, but you can play it for hours on end.Story - 8/10 - Everything is given to you as you progress through the game, pure and simple. There's actually some comedy in it as well that anyone will find funny.Character Development - 7/10 - Everyone in the game has their part to play, and they do it well.Lifespan- 2/10 - The 1 bad thing i have to say about this game,is that it lacks replay value because of the lack of a multiplayer mode.Sad faceOverall,if you're looking for something that kiddies will enjoy for a good couple of months....Look no further!
