This is a lovely product on many counts. It comes in a sturdy wooden box which holds 5 double-sided pattern boards (so 10 pattern designs) and over 100 wooden shapes which are - hexagons, squares, diamonds (2), triangles and a trapezoid. There are numerous ways to play:1) Let your child construct their own patterns freestyle with the blocks for using their own imagination. This is often the most fun for little ones. My little girl likes to stack these up as well as place them side by side. She has them all on a tray so they don't slide off the table!2) Help your child recognise different colours or shapes by using the blocks. Shame there are only 5 shapes but you can also make a rectangle, for example, by placing 2 squares together.3) We use the boards and blocks to count with. I ask my daughter how many squares there are on a pattern board or how many green pieces. Or we do basic adding up and taking away with the larger shapes. In fact this is how my daughter started to understand basic maths using this exact method.4) Older children can start to make the patterns using the blocks on the boards either with your help or unaided. There are 10 designs including a butterfly, dog, train, fish, bird, geometric, rabbit, flower, boat and snail.5) Improving manual dexterity by getting your child to trace around the larger shapes with coloured pencils. Making up their own art designs. Older children could use the pattern boards as inspiration for drawing out patterns. There are so many ways to play with this item. I'm not a big fan of electronic items/gadgets for very young children (especially pre-schoolers) as I feel that simple toys are far better for developing their own imagination, skills and sustaining interest.1 minor let-down is the flimsy plastic cover which serves as a lid but I've put elastic over to keep it in place. This toy has been a big hit and lasts for a good hour or more each play session. If there was another set with additional shapes, I'd buy it too.

This is a well-made set of pattern matching boards/pieces aimed at children in the older pre-school/early school age category. The colours of both pieces and base boards are bright and everything is nicely finished. This isn't the most basic set from the brand (there are versions aimed at younger children, which include larger and more basically-shaped pieces, as well as base boards with inset spaces to hold the matched pieces still), instead this 'next stage on' set is intended to challenge/extend improving skills in fine motor control as well as skills in colour/shape matching and pattern recognition. There are sufficient pieces in one box to allow several of the boards to be completed - thus there's enough here for a small group of children to use the set simultaneously.Where this set falls down, is in the absence of a lid. The pieces comes in a nice wooden storage box, but this lacks a proper cover: an omission which just seems daft considering the number of small parts involved.

It is really nice product and my 4 years old loves it. It is fairly easy to stuck the pieces on board to make different pictures but my son loves to do it on the floor but will still have the board in front on him. The best thing about this is the creativity and having so many different pieces really helps kids mind to think.I bought this for my son but my 7 years old daughter love it as well as she can make things without looking at the board pictures/clues. If I can improve one thing that will be sturdiness when making picture on the floor as something pieces don't fit together very well.Overall kids are very happy so am I :)

Bought this toy for my (almost) 3 year old. He loves it and it is great for his motor skills as it involves working with relatively small / thin tiles. There are enough different design cards to keep him amused and give him choice. He is only just starting to spend time concentrating and playing with toys for any length of time, and this certainly holds his attention and encourages him to concentrate. It is also a nice quiet activity to do together. I agree with other reviewers that it is a bit of a pain that it doesn't have a lid that fastens, however it would not put me off getting it again, great product.

This product is perfect for ages 3 and up (it has small pieces that can be swollen). It is a good quality product for the price. The pedagogic concept of this toy is very interesting. Children explore colors, geometric forms and pattern composition. The boards are reversible in order to have more figures to compose. It has been perfect for a rainy weekend at home.I didn't rate the product with 5 stars because the painting of the pieces is not perfect and the box hasn't got a wooden cover to protect the little pieces of falling out of it.

Bought as a 3rd birthday present for my twin girls - and they love it (and so does my 6 yr old son!). They all happily sit placing the shapes onto the boards, or making their own patterns on the floor. Chosen because it has many boards and pieces enabling them to play together or own their own. Only down side is that the plastic lid just sits on top, rather than sliding on like other Melissa & Doug games we have. As suggested by another review, I'm using an elastic band to keep lid on, though for the price you would expect a sliding lid.

A brightly coloured, solid toy. Ideal for mums who need some stimulation as well as children. There's one draw back though. It comes with five boards which is great, I have five children BUT there are not enough shapes to play all five boards at once which leads to tears! This leads me to think either the manufacturer does not have children or children were not kept in mind when producing the product? I still liked it though and I can make multiple activities out of the one game.

Purchased this product for the class for mathematical development. The pattern boards and shapes are wooden so they are long lasting. The box it came in was good but it did not come with a decent lid. The lid was just some plastic covering which does not stay on top, so the children had some problems as the shapes would always fall out.Other than that it is a fantastic buy which the children enjoy playing with.

The product is attractive and hard wearing. It has a nice traditional feel and comes in a useful storage box. The play value of the toy is good as it can be used initially as a matching activity then progress to more creative pictures of the child's own design. It also has the advantage of having enough pieces to make it worth using as some toys of this type are limited by the small number of parts.

I do like this pattern block and my 5 year old and 2 year old grandaughters both use it in their own way. They enjoy finding the shapes and making the patterns. However, I think the lid of the packaging is very poor. It comes in a lovely wooden box but with a very lightweight plastic cover that does not click-fit so all the pieces constantly fall out and it is very difficult to store.

My 3 year old received this as a birthday present. Good sturdy wooden picture boards and pieces. We love the Melissa and Doug range BUT their packaging is rubbish; whilst the wooden box is solid and nicely compartmentalised, it could do with a lid to contain all the bits - 120 pieces is a lot to scatter around the house, I have made a little draw string bag now.

I hope this review is going to be read by M&G people. Please sort out the lid for this toy! I agree with everyone else - it is a great toy, but you need extra box (or bespoke made lid) to keep it parts together. I am amazed how that was missed in your design. You produced a sturdy box for keeping blocks and boards, but it cannot be closed!Shame, shame on you!

On June 25, a smart watch was bought from you, in the description it is indicated that they are waterproof. After a week of use, they stopped working, turned on, after they came under light rain. Please give me back the money or exchange the watch .Thank youP.S when I opened the box and went through manual there’s nothing saying about waterproof.

I purchased this for my daughter after using one whilst working in a pre-school. It has lots of educational value and is durable. My only negative comment on this product is the lack of a lid! It's a bit of a shame that an activity with lots of pieces has no suitable container. Luckily my dad is handy and he made a wonderful wooden hinged lid!

Bought this as a birthday gift for our child's second birthday but the pieces are quite small. Will probably put it away until our son is a bit older and less likely to put the parts in his mouth. However, I am really pleased with the toy despite the fact we can't use it yet. It is a great traditional toy which is educational and fun.
