I’m a big fan of introducing young children to jigsaw puzzles, as they are great for encouraging a whole range of developmental skills, including hand-eye coordination and problem solving. This Big Digger floor jigsaw from Orchard Toys is perfect for children who are ready to move on from basic toddler puzzles. It comes in a sturdy box with integrated carry handle, and the chunky pieces are made from thick, brightly colored board that handles well and looks very durable. The pieces snap together easily and snugly. As a child obsessed with all things vehicular, I expected my 3.5 year-old grandson to be excited about this puzzle, and indeed he was. Being at the lower end of the recommended age range of 3-6,he needed help and encouragement, but was delighted when he was able put the last piece in place and see the final picture. As much as I like this puzzle, however, I’m not a fan of the curved edges and free-flowing shape, which I believe make it harder for children to to put the pieces together in any kind of logical order. I prefer the traditional style with straight edges and corners. That said, I have huge respect for Orchard Toys and the experts they have to guide the development of their products. So maybe they know something that I don’t!On a more positive note, Orchard Toys always go the extra mile to help children get the most out of their products, and this is no exception. On the back of the box is a great learning guide for parents, which is designed to be used with the completed puzzle to promote discussion and imaginative play, encourage observation and reinforce counting skills.Excellent value for money and highly recommended. Thanks for reading my review. I hope you found it helpful.

I am really pleased with the actual item, when it eventually arrived which I purchased as a birthday present for my grandson.original order placed 15/10/12 with estimated delivery 20/10/12. 25/10/12 after advising of none delivery replacement ordered, estimated delivery 27/10/12. when this date passed and still no delivery I was advised to wait until 3/11/12!!HOWEVER, I was extremely disappointed with the delivery service which was late, when I contacted the vendor to advise I was told a replacement would be dispatched... which also didin't arrive on the estimated delivery date. I again advised the vendor who told me to wait some additional number of days. Then TWO arrived at exactly the same time.I was then put to the trouble of having to reseal the packaging and visit...and queue at my local post office to return the extra item, when the reason I had done my shopping on-line was to avoid the hassle. When I contacted the vendor..AMAZON... I was sent a standard email reply-VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE.. As a result I am more wary about my purchases through Amazon and in some instances have shopped elsewhere.

Having had nothing but positive experiences with Orchard Toys, I had no hesitation in adding this to our collection, when my 2 year-old grandson kept pointing out buses when we were out in the car. And he loves it!The pieces are nice and big, so are perfect for small hands to manipulate. And the great bonus is that it offers so much more than simply fitting puzzle pieces together. There’s a lot of detail to look at and talk about, and the box offers helpful tips on how to encourage discussion and observation.Just a warning to people who might be expecting a traditionally shaped puzzle with four corners and straight edges: you won’t find that here! But because of the large size of the pieces,I really don’t think it matters, although I admit it did throw me at first. Nevertheless, still deserving of five stars. Thanks for reading my review. I hope you found out helpful. Check out my profile page for more reviews of toddler books and puzzles and educational toys and games.

Bought this for my 2 1/2 year old grandson. It’s too difficult for him to put together ( even I struggle if I’m trying to put it together quickly ) but I’m sure as he gets older it will get easier. Once assembled he loves it. It fits nicely on our coffee table and he likes to climb up next to it to talk about what’s going on in the picture. It’s so big and detailed that he tries to put his playmobile people on it as if they are in the plane. It holds his attention longer than most games he has probably because he uses his playmobile characters. It’s also a good educational game talking about how many wheels, men with red hats, etc and going on holiday.I will wait until he’s older before buying another one when he can put it together himself, but the bright bold colours and nice sturdy pieces make this a great purchase.

I am so pleased I got this for my 2.5 year old daughter, there is enough detail to keep her interest and guide her in picking out the correct pieces, e.g. the girl with the violin/the lady in the green jumper etc, without it being too overwhelming, the balance is just right and she takes great delight in completing the puzzle whilst singing rounds of the wheels on the bus. A great puzzle to stimulate and encourage your child in a structured, fun activity. I hsve since bought the noahs ark and teddy bears picnic puzzles from the same range, both are equally great and she loves them all, choosing a different one to complete each night, great to help her wind down after a busy day. The puzzles are sturdy, bright and brilliantly designed with little tots in mind. Perfect!!!

My son got this for his 3rd birthday. He loves tractors so it was always going to be a big win for him. He needed a bit of help with it the first time and it still challenges him after a few goes but he can manage it by himself with a bit of encouragement to keep trying. I would say it's a perfect level of difficulty for a 3 or 4 year old. Although, I think he may well continue to enjoy it for longer as he still loves the simpler puzzles that he can complete quickly too.The quality of Orchard Toys puzzles and the slightly unusual shapes makes them great for young children. We had started with simpler ones when my son was younger and I look forward to continuing to grow his collection with moredifficult puzzles as he gets older.

I bought this for my 2 year old son as he is mad about buses. We already have a few of the Orchard Toys products so i knew the quality would be good. The puzzle pieces are quite thick and 15 pieces is a good number for my son to do by himself. We talk about the numbers, the number plate, the writing, the colours of the tops the people are wearing and what they are holding, etc. to work out what piece goes where. There is a lot going on in the picture and it's very colourful, so easy on the eye for toddlers. The overall size of the puzzle is great too and my son likes to it keep out after he's completed it, as if to admire his hard work! Well worth buying, i'd say.

I find orchard toys puzzles to sit nice and flat and fit together smoothly. The pictures always have a good overlap and I find that the age ratings are spot on. My just turned 2 year old is particularly good at puzzles and can do this puzzle by himself with a nice amount of challenge. His older siblings like to help sometimes too. He is delighted when he completes it and studies the picture - there is lots to talk about and practice words with. We have had it for a few weeks and he wants to build it and the others we have most days, often more than once! So if your child is into puzzles or fun pictures you will get great value out of this puzzle.

This is another brilliant purchase from Orchard Toys. My daughter was given this for her 3rd birthday and she loves it and can do it all by herself by looking at the pictures and the familiar items that she recognises. We've gone through so many puzzles, most of which are cheaply made, bend and are dull in colour, but I've found all of Orchard toys' jigsaw puzzles to be the best quality. They don't bend, they're bright and interesting to look at and my daughter and I have fun playing "eye spy" with it after she has done it all. We're building up quite a collection of them now! Definitely recommend them.

My 2 yr old loves this jigsaw and has done it repeatedly on a daily basis since she recieved it at xmas so much so she can almost do it with her eyes closed which has boosted her confidence at puzzling immensely have had to invest in many more now to keep her going and amused!!!there are many little details which make for conversation points with your child as you go along and asking for them to look for certain things, colours etc aids there observation skills. Its tough and durable too and believe me my wee girl has really tested it cant recommend highly enough!!!

We come from Australia and ordered this to be delivered to our son's address in the UK. What appealed to us was the larger pieces and number of pieces and the fact that it was good to put together on the floor. Our grandson loved it, starting off with mum and dad doing it with him and then by himself. He loves jigsaws and there are quite a few more similar jigsaws available that would appeal to him so we will be sending them to him at intervals. Good value and something that has been played with many times already and will be used many more times in the future.

Love these chunky jigsaws! They are so colourful and like a story in itself with the descriptive pictures. Easy to make and my son loves them, and it keeps him busy. Not many pieces so good for small minds.I have the red bus jigsaw as well and both are good quality.Handy torage box with handle on top.Says aged 3-6 but my son is 2 yrs old and enjoys it, i just like to help him with the jigsaw so great bonding for us :)Comes with a leaflet inside with other jigsaws from the range.* I purhased this with my own money and the review is my honest opinion.*

All puzzles are great for children but these Orchard Toys ones are particularly good. My son has 3 and he loves them. I would say the age guidelines on them are rather conservative. My 3 year old had no interest in jigsaws until he was given one of these (the big lifeboat); after doing it with him a few times he started doing it himself no problem. He can easily do the other 2 as well, very quickly, with no help and I don't think he's particularly gifted in the puzzle department! I think the 3-6 year old age guide should actully be 2-4 year old.

Brilliant! A great sturdy jigsaw for little hands to grasp easily. As the pieces are not all little squares like most jigsaws it's add's more fun to the jigsaw, it's bright, colourful and the picture has lots of interesting points to talk to your child about (or for them to ask questions about "who's that", "what are they doing" "what is that" etc :o) so great fun and educational in regards to aeroplanes. My son (who is 3) loves putting this jigsaw together time and time again, comes in a nice strong box for storage, well worth the price.
