Mario Party 4By Owen, 21-12-2002--------------------------------------------------------------------------------It's Party Time! For those of you familiar with the insane world of Mario Party, your memories of this franchise are likely to be very mixed. The original Mario Party invented a genre. While not without its faults, the consensus opinion was that Nintendo had created something wonderful. The unique mix of mini-games and party fun rendered the classic board games irrelevant. Mario's party antics gathered pace with the introduction of a sequel and though countless imitators attempted to steal the party crown, Mario never failed to come through in pole position. The sequel emphasised everything which made the original great and stood proud with such textbook sequels as Godfather Part 2 or Smash Bros. Melee. It even had a sickly-sweet story line about how being the 'Party Star' can be decided by being nice to the most people. Not exactly the sort of material to attract the Vice City 'ganstas' but Mario Party was always good, honest fun which succeeded by bringing people together.Mario Party 3 may just have been a party too far and took the franchise into the realms of ridiculous. The game was so similar to its prequels that, to the uneducated eye, nothing seemed to have changed at all. The changes seemed to have given the game a shiny exterior but this merely hid a cynical game with nothing new to say. Now, Mario Party 4 brings the franchise onto the Gamecube. So, if Nintendo want these titles to entertain for generations to come, they need to make an impact with this one. So it is with minor hesitation that I approach this game and bring the truth of Mario Party's future to our readers

After the 3 Mario party games on the N64, i thought this would be getting a little bit tired by now. How wrong i was, its great! This game combines some of the gamecube's best graphics and sound, they set the tone for the game. With the best Nintendo characters taking part(Mario,DK,Peach,Luigi, etc.) things get really competitive. As you guide your character around the many wild boards to gain your prize, you'll experience the reasons why Nintendo is great. The colourful graphics and brilliant tunes create a real party atmosphere, all you need now are some mates to join you for this celebration to become party hero. The only downfall in the game i the fact that there are only 50 mini-games,but then everyone has a few favouites that they'll return to time and time again to beat their last record. The game will keep you locked to your controller for weeks as it has that 'one more go' factor that keeps a game alive. Nintendo has put alot of effort into improving the one player and it has worked well. Of course it will never be as good as the multiplayer which is the real highlight to the game.Mario Party 4 can stand on its own as a single player game, however, i would recommend a rent to see how you like it first.Overall the game is brilliant with only a few minor flaws which would never be enough to put you off buying it alone, so what are you waiting for, get the party started!!

Having recently 'upgraded' from the N64 to the Gamecube, this was one of the first titles I bought as I had enjoyed Mario Party 2 & 3 immensely, and at first glance I was not disappointed. Like the previous incarnations this is one of the best (if not THE best) multiplayer games ever. period. However the keyword here is MULTIPLAYER, because if you're playing this on your own then forget it, because as a single player game it is dull & uninspiring. Don't get me wrong - there is fun to be had and one of the main attractions is to discover the vast array of mini-games that are on offer, but there are quite simply better games around. In essence therefore, award this game 5 stars if you're planning on playing this with your mates, but only give it 3 stars if you're on your own!

Having never played Mario Party games before I wasn't sure what to expect from this one. Let me say I was pleasently surprised. The game follows a 3D board game theme in which you take turns going round the board and collecting stars. At the end of a turn you partake in a short mini-game to get points and stars. At the end of the game it's the person with the most stars that wins the game. Its that simple! This game really is a game for all ages, children will enjoy the colourful characters and the board turns whilst the more mature gamer will love competing against their mates in the mini games.Overall this gets 5 stars for the multiplayer but I have to give it 4 for the single player.

This game is really a good laugh! I was a bit worried at first but now I play MP4 almost every day! It's a bit like Monopoly with mini-games, you may not like the sound of that but really, its completely crazy! The grapics are very good though you wouldn't exepect so as with a board game you do not need very good grapics. The multiplayer mode is very funny as one player shoots to 1st then lands on a bad space and falls to last. The single player mode is not very good and that is why I gave this game a 4/5, a better story mode would have helped this game enourmousely.Overall a very good game, try playing it with the whole family and you'll be crying with laughter!

This game is a good laugh. One thing I have to mention before I carry on is that I played the original Mario Party on the N64 and it had a bouncing balls mini-game which was my favourite!!! Why they have trashed it is passed my thinking, but there are a few other fun mini-games like booksquirm and dungeon duo's which is a hoot!!If you haven't got any friends then stay away! This game is for multiplayer use although it does have a single player mode which isn't that amazing and becomes an obstacle in your way when trying to complete the game!Rent it first - see how you like it! It is most definately a very good laugh though!!

Since the beginning the Mario Party series has consistently delivered enjoyable multiplayer party game action. But Mario Party 4 has got to be the best yet. Mario party 4 has the best graphics yet but the gameplay is just the same. The graphics of the characters are a bit like the graphics of the characters in Super Smash Brothers Melee but simpler. People who have spent money on the last 3 mario partys mightn't find enough in Mario Party 4 to bring them back but players new to the series should really think about buying Mario Party 4.

All games are sopposed to be fun but this pushes aside all other competition easily. Mario Party is fun by yourself but get some mates round and you'll play for months. The mini-games are a riot and there isn't any really bad ones. Some mini-games are so fun they should be illegal. Dungeon Duos and Goal!!! are some of the best examples of fun mini-games. Some games can last for ages and the GC pad will have to be surgically removed before you go to bed. This is a game that no-one should be without, get it or miss out.

Mario Party 4 is not a complete clone of the last 3 Mario Partys. It is completely different, well, not exactly.. There are new boards, same characters, different mini-games.. so there is never a dull moment when you play it. I am currently hooked on Mario Party and I am a bit too competitive, I guarantee that you will be the same. Great Graphics--10/10, Great Sound--10/10, Amazing Game....I give it 100%...Buy it now and you will not be dissapointed, trust me.

Love this game such a classic and so much nostalgia! would recommend buying this game if you have a gamecube and if you dont have one then buy one! The story mode is a load of fun you battle against 3 computer players to get the most stars and compete in mini games to get more coins and the winner or 'party star' gets to compete in another fun mini game to win a present for the characters birthday! a fun game and has many fun multi player options.

This is an awesome game to get if you have a brother or sister who you play games with a lot. I play it with my big brother. The only downside to it is that when you play it on your own, after a while you can get a bit bored of the whole routine: roll dice, move, wait for CPU, mini-game.Don't get that to turn that away from you though... If you do buy it, happy partying... The mario way!!!Eve
