There’s a growing market for boys (and girls) of a certain age who have the disposable income to do something about their fondness for 80’s joysticks and massive plastic buttons. They used to have to pay per play in the arcades back in the day, now they can get the same experience at home and the only thing stopping them is their wife and kids arguing about whose turn it is to cook dinner. I hadn’t succumbed to the temptation until now- I was always more of a keyboard smasher than a joystick wiggler- but there’s no point in denying that connecting this up to a Switch and having some quiet evenings smashing and wiggling is very, very satisfying. Joy-cons are all very smart and clever, but there’s something more tangible about a big stick, isn’t there?I don’t really ‘do’ fighting games, but of course this is all the buttons of a standard controller in a slightly shifted layout, so with it you can play any Switch game that’s playable with a single controller and which doesn’t require the accelerometer- which is probably just as well, as if I tried to hold this in the air and play “Just Dance” with it, I’d probably do my back in. My guilty pleasure is racing games, and I can confirm that you can definitely win grand prixs in Mario Kart 8 or Team Sonic Racing using this, after only a small adjustment. The Switch A B X Y control diamond is rotated slightly, but it’s quite intuitive to adjust- and it’s hard to argue about the intuitiveness of a big joystick. As a piece of hardware, it’s 4 out of 5 stars. The feel of it is mostly very sturdy. The buttons have that classic rounded vibe, and both they and the joystick will take a lot of hammering and pulling. I don’t think they’re up to true arcade machine standard- where machines had to be built to withstand many many thousands of smashes from hundreds of aggressive players- but for domestic use, if only one family is going to be hammering this, then it will withstand it. It feels a little on the cheap side, more plastic than metal, which adds to the sense that it’s a bit of a novelty toy rather than ‘serious gamer’ material. But I struggled just a little bit with the responsiveness. I felt like there were certain times that I was absolutely pressing the buttons, and nothing was happening. In my opinion the mechanism ought to be just a little bit more sensitive to rapid or milder presses. It’s essentially digital- the button is either pressed or it isn’t- but I wish that some of my slightly softer or quicker presses had registered properly. It wasn’t a regular problem, but just frequent enough for it to be mildly irritating. The USB cable length on this device was *almost* perfect for me. You do get a moderately generous USB cable, but it was awkwardly just too short to stretch from our Switch underneath the TV, to our sofa. However I was able to stick in a USB extension lead with no issues, without adding any noticeable latency. Our Switch recognised this as a USB controller with absolutely no fuss, with the controllers menu picking it up straight away. It’s a novelty item, undoubtedly, and the responsiveness and the build quality are a firm 4 out of 5 rather than the full five. But if you don’t take your gaming too seriously, and you fancy a bit of a nostalgia trip with a big joystick, there’s plenty of fun to be had here.

Arcade fighting is serious business to some. To get to the top you need to have the edge, the best equipment, the best internet speeds. A millisecond can make the difference between winning and losing. For the rest of us, it is just a bit of fun. I love the chunky arcade style joysticks and buttons that you can purchase but the top end equipment is ridiculously expensive. This arcade fighting stick from Lioncast is still expensive in the grand scheme of things but is a lot more affordable than most. You get a compatible device for PS4 and PC. The joystick is chunky, and you get a ton of buttons that are programmable on the PC. Put the USB in and it is recognised quickly. For fighting there is no lag and there is some weight to the board so that it stays stationary. The board has a little bit of give to it and won't quite take repetitive hard hitting, so remain calm even when losing. I think for an amateur player this kit will be fantastic, but a serious gamer will have it busted in weeks. Thankfully most of us just want to have fun.

I bought this controller mainly to use with old emulators running on my PC. it was plug and play and also I was able to map and control the buttons on the emulator software so I could set it up exactly as I wanted it to be. I used this with one of the leading PC emulator software programs but because it runs on the standard Windows driver framework it will work with any program on PC.It was like going back to the arcade being able to place things like Mortal Kombat properly arcade style really is a big change the included 2.5 meter lead makes it very easy to sit back from your television or display as well.I did try it out on the PS4 and it worked absolutely fine but it is less desirable withmodern games to use this style of control it's nice to have though as an option.Incredibly good value for money and a real arcade feel perfect for any retro gaming addicts.

This arcade controller is fantastic. I've just used it for the first time to play Mario Kart 8 with my kids and it really gave me a proper retro feeling to the gameplay. Once you understand the button placement, it works really well. This brings back memories as a child in the 80's playing on the old (new at the time) arcade video games, however also brings the controller style up to the 21st century, allowing full control of games on the Nintendo Switch. The design of this controller is good and it feels really sturdy. I also like how the ball on the joystick rotates completely. The buttons are easy to press too. I'm looking forward to playing some retro games, once the kids will let me near the switch.Definitely a recommended controller that, for the price of £39.99 (at the time of review) is excellent value for money, if not just for the nostalgic value of it.

This is a fun arcade style game system controller. It's very nicely sized and very easy to use.I tested it on my PS4. It's a wired controller, so it needs a spare USB socket to be used - something any PS4 or Switch owner needs to know in advance! (This also means it will NOT be compatible with a Switch Lite which lacks any USB sockets!)Set up is easy for the PS4 and Switch, just plug it in and use it.Apparently you have customisation options for the button use on a PC, but I cannot test that as I currently lack a working PC with spare USB sockets.Build quality is ok, nothing special - but ok. It feels fairly durable for regular use,but It probably won't stand up to serious abuse or rage quit tantrums. It's very nice and a bargain at this price point - it's also a lot of fun to play using this style of controller.

Not difficult to use, stable thanks to weight and grips. Easy to set up with Nintendo Switch and it has that retro vibe both in relation to look and feel and play experience.A good arcade style controller. I can't compare to other similar products which I understand are often much more expensive but for myself it did recreate the experience of playing in an arcade and using the controls of an old arcade machine which I still remember doing. Yes, I am old enough to have played on those old fight games machines when they were in their relative infancy, if I remember correctly on one such game 'spinning bird kick' was my favourite move. Yes, this definitely brings back the nostalgia. For fun family vintage style play on a reliable, robust and nice looking controller I think this is more than adequate.

First impression are of a solid well made product, sturdy constructions. The layout of okay, as with any of these products its not perfect, some of the buttons I thought a little close, especially if you’re giving them a good trashing.Fitted with a USB means it will work with a number of products, I tried it on my PS4, worked fine, it takes a while to work out the buttons, it has rubber feet but I think it would benefit from suckers on the base, or even a bit more weight, although its not light.Buttons can be configured via the PC, not a console, which limits its console use, but okay for the PC.I like it, takes me back to when I’d play Street Fighter, Mortal Combat etc for ages, not sure If it will replace what I have, but I still love it.

This controller looks great and I love the retro feel. It feels reasonably sturdy but definitely does have a bit of a plastic-y feel to it. It was easy to set up and connect. I did like the layout of the controls and I did generally find it enjoyable to use. One issue I had is that a couple of the buttons did stick which meant I did not have a smooth experience. It doesn't give me confidence that this will survive a lot of use and does make the £40 price tag seem a bit much.

wow this is fantastic for playing games like streetfighter and mortal kombat, reminds me of the gold old days when doen at the arcades putting my paper round money in the machines. its very easy to set up and fells just like the original arcade sticks. well worth it if you are a big retro arcade fan

This arcade stick really takes me back. The stick itself has that satisfying clicking sound that the old machines had. Buttons are responsive and the set up is lightweight but still feels quality. Great product
