Gaming today often has too much to it, complications, a lot of noise and a lot questions, sometimes simplicity serves better. And LIMBO is simple, very simple, perfectly effective. It essentially is a puzzle solving game in a 2D monochrome world where you play a boy going through this haunting world, dodging death and outwitting the numerous scenarios blocking your path. However the idea of this game is not so much its main selling point, rather the execution. Visually LIMBO is stunning in its simplicity, the lack of colorful distraction and the emphasis on shadow play and lack of full visualization is perfect for what the game is trying to do. The game is atmospheric, entrancing and truly other-worldly with its monochrome setting and eerie score which accompanies. As well as this the single-path way is in a way, far more entertaining that a multiple option / 3D work, it keeps the game going at a steady pace and means you are more enthralled and brought into the story than actually focusing on the fact its a game.LIMBO's plot is very easy - there is none other than a basic premise, a boy is searching through this LIMBO world to find the fate of his sister, that's all we know. And in some cases we need know nothing else, all we have to show for all this is the boy, a silhouette with two white eyes which glance and blink with no exaggeration. Despite not seeing anything detailed on this boy we actually come to sympathize with him a lot more than hours devoted to characters on Skyrim could achieve - why? Is it because we don't know what this world is and that he's alone, is it those eyes, or is it the fact that unless you move carefully he dies in a multitude of ways, gruesome and / or haunting. The boys deaths (and without doubt you'll see plenty working through this) are grim, and it attaches you more to him with every chance you get to get the puzzle right on the next occasion. The game also is a very dark piece, bordering on a demented artwork for what it shows us, the boy's deaths are, not nice to put it easily, its either a really haunting way to go such as drowning or falling, or the sharp objects get their way in a number of creative scenarios. However despite this though it is actually a relaxing experience with the music, the multiple shades of grey and the very basic controls, five in total and four of those are movement anyway. Its very much an escapist piece of work, able to take you into another place, making everything easier, and more dangerous.LIMBO is a perfect combination of monochrome style, simplicity and puzzles, the only problem being its length, its too short but personally I find a short gem is better than a long failure, so take what you get here and you'll be thoroughly satisfied. LIMBO's only problems lie in the length and any frustration one may get from repetitive deaths - but it causes more good than bad and is far more of an encouragement than the failures in different puzzle games such as the Portal games (even though they are two of the best games in history they don't attach so well to the protagonist as LIMBO does).

LIMBO is a side-scrolling platformer like nothing you will have ever seen before. Using a monochrome, black and white style reminiscent of some old German art film, the plot is simple. You control the actions of a small boy silhouetted against a grainy, disturbing landscape, and guide him from left to right solving puzzles, dodging traps and overcoming obstacles to progress in the search for his sister. The only other game that made me feel like I did playing LIMBO was the equally haunting ICO on the Playstation 2.The tense, disturbing imagery, and haunting ambient music and sounds of LIMBO will stay with you long after you finish this (rather short) game. There are no instructions, no in-game prompts,no dialogue to help you solve each puzzle, you are left to figure each one out with a trial and error play method that will see your character meet his death in various grotesque ways.On your journey will have to negotiate a huge, terrifying spider, spikes, water with dead children floating in it, anti-gravity and bugs that attach to the character's head. There are also the usual levers, platforms, boxes and other staple part of platform puzzles to solve. When playing LIMBO, you get a strange connection to the voiceless, faceless child that makes you almost feel angry that somebody would subject him to such horrors.Never has so little evoked so much. Gorgeous.

One reviewer has likened this to a Super Mario Brothers game directed by David Lynch. I agree. But this isn't the plot-twisting nightmare of Twin Peaks. It's more Lynch's earlier Eraserhead - the hairstyle; the lo-fi flicking monochrome; the unsettling soundworld; the pervading sense of menace.Like a film, the story unfolds linearly. But unlike a film, the viewer has to become the protagonist and make decisions. Which, in this game, usually results in a sad and graphic ending for the little character entrusted to you. But we're in a place of limbo, suspended between life and death. No death is permanent here. You can be killed, but you can't die.Which means you're always reborn to carry on your elusive quest from a point before you were last killed, never too far back. This proves very satisfying rather than frustrating. Sometimes you have to replay your last few triumphs before mastering that last bit of devilishness, and can get a bit slicker. But never slick enough! It's always trial-and-error to progress through this game. Or trial-and-death, as the designers have described it.I've heard rumours about the ending, but have closed my ears. Not there yet!

The People who made this game have seen Eraserhead the people who made this game have realy realy realy i repeat realy tried to make the best game they could with atmospherics that draw you into saving this little boy you know nothing about. The puzzles are amazing the frustration just makes you wanna try harder and if like me you had to muster as much inner strength as possible not to click "you-tube walk through" on one or two logical mind benders you will be rewarded and the self of a achievement is well worth the many repeated attempts. Some one said that the end was abrupt but when I finally got to the end and it happened I felt like I knew this was how it was going to end already and was totally at ease with it.This is one of the best games I have ever played for its immense character and the way it just makes you want to keep helping this lost soul you have been left to help.Amazing Game!! And people out there who say they didn't get scared when they first met what you normaly find in a bath tub they are liars. Oh and for £7 you can't get a better game than this end of story!!!!

The atmosphere in Limbo is incredible. It's quite short; 3- 5 hours maybe, but it doesn't really matter. Too long would ruin the effect.Style-wise, it's simple and beautiful. It feels creepy (that silhouette looks oddly like a child...) and the puzzles are challenging, but won't make you want to kill someone. I've recommended it to a lot of friends, and they're all loved it.I ended up buying this twice- first though steam, then this special edition, because it looks so pretty, and honestly I mainly just wanted the sticker.Only mild complaint is I expected more to be in there. I don't know why. Maybe because I felt the 3D glasses were just, well, 3D glasses, and so the only difference between this and the Steam version is the sticker and art cards. Which are cool! But didn't QUITE feel like enough to justify buying it twice. Oh well, I just like owning things. And this is a pretty neat thing to own.

I found this game several years after it came out. While late - it's better than never because it's a great game. The graphics suite the game well, and help create a very encompassing environment and mood. The 3D effect is great!Interestingly, typing SHIFT + 3 + D on any version of the game will shift to 3D mode, (and SHIFT + 2 + D will exit 3D mode),I found I sometimes had to type it more than once to toggle the effect. So if you have the 3D glasses (red and cyan) - you can enjoy 3D without needing to buy the collectors edition.Though for collectors of games and their packaging, it's a nice unit... The box, some cards with artwork on them, a sticker of the hero's head, the 3D glasses, and a CD.

If you are looking at this you probably already own Limbo like me. I am someone who likes a physical copy of something special, mainly CD's. But Limbo with out of a doubt is one of the best games I have ever played. I put it up there with sonic on the genesis (megadrive) and a few others. If you enjoyed Sonic as a child you will enjoy this as an adult. An atmospheric platformer which makes you think. There isn't a single area which I can fault. I bought this for Martin Stig Anderson's soundtrack which is worth more than the price. You want something which has a nostalgic feel in the present day which sucks you in? BUY LIMBO!

Limbo is a great puzzle game. The art-style may be fairly simple, however make no mistake that this means the gameplay is equally simple. In fact, the art-style is a component of the gameplay. The bleak, dim darkness that is the environment of which you play in, hides various objectives and surprises than can often lead you to your own demise. Whilst playing, you tread with much trepidation to progress through the many challenges that await you.The soundtrack in the game, and included on the CD of this special edition version, is equally atmospheric and adds to the tension of the game. Highly recommended.

Imagine if David Lynch was allowed to take a break from making movies and make a Mario/platform game. Then you may get some approximation of what this game has to offer. Superb atmosphere, beautiful monochrome backdrops, erie ambient music(?) and puzzles galore. It is however a tad on the short side and some of the puzzles can be unforgiving and a matter of trial and error. For the price though this really is a must-have buy, especially for those who want something on a tangent to mainstream gaming. In a nutshell, this is one of those rare games that will live in your memory forever.

I've got the game on XBLA and loved it, who cares if it's a bit short. Quality not quantity. The contents are good, not the best. The 3D glasses are a bit cheap but the sticker is good although it has no stroke so if your sticking it on something black you won't notice it. The art cards are nice and all but I really love the box, don't know why.You do get a steam key which is nice but I dunno. It's not the best special edition in the world. More could have been done.

Limbo is a dark and atmospheric puzzle-platformer. Its graphics are very simple; you can only see the silhouette of the character you're controlling and the outline of the rest of the world. There are no fights with enemies; you can only run around, jump, and interact with a few objects. Be prepared to die a lot, though!PS: The limited addition box set is completely worth it!

The game is surely great and I appreciate the special edition packaging. But it was supposed to have 7 art cards as described and it finally contained only 3. I checked unboxing videos of it at youtube and there were seven. Meaning that there can be deficit copies out there. A little disappointed ...

Loved it. This is a collector's edition - I got 3 of them and I'd buy another one anytime. This game is a gem and this makes a great gift (dark atmospheres, so make sure the recipient does like them). Connoisseurs will be more than happy! :)Product arrived soon, shipping and packing were okay! :
