A game in its own right:Before I start my review I would like to say I’m disappointed in the negative reviews for this game because a lot of people have compared it to the first game where you can rewind time. And I’m not going to lie for some time I was of that mind set as well. Which is why I am so glad I left it some time before actually coming to play this game. I actually completed the captain spirit demo before playing this game which was a good little. Another reason I took some time to actually sit down and play this game was due to the fact I was of the mindset that what’s the point I already know that Rachel Amber dies. However what the creators have done is concentrate on the relationship with Chloe and Rachel, how they met, how their relationship developed and everything else around it. It also brings in some of the other characters as well so u get to know them a bit better.I must say though that this game is a masterpiece in its own right and it probably should have been made before the first life is strange game however I suppose they wanted a Big Bang and to build up the fan base I suppose they made the right choice in terms of the order of how they made and released the games. But anyways back to the game. The emotions and the connection you develop with the main character Chloe in this game is nothing short of the brilliance that was shown in the first game where you connect to Max. I’m not going to go into the details of what happens in the story because I don’t want to spoil it for people. But the main thing I will say is that it is a brilliant game in its own right and has a wonderful story with a few twists and turns. Some expected others not. The system they brought in with Chloe being able to argue her way of a situation to get what she wants is a good system, but can be quite tricky at times. So breakdown of the main story:Story picks up 2 yrs after Chloe’s dad dies and Max has left to go to college. Chloe is obsessed with the fact that Max has abandoned her, something those who played the first game know isn’t true, but perspective is a funny thing. You also see that despite efforts made by Chloe to regularly message Max by text it’s not reciprocated due to a variety of circumstances, with Chloe giving up in the end. Long distance relationships are hard. So just like Max used to journal entry things, you find that Chloe still makes journal entries to Max with the knowledge that she will never read nor respond to them, which is quite sad in itself but is a coping mechanism she uses.Anyways so as a result Chloe acts out and tries to hide her true feelings, then she meets Rachel who everyone has a perspective of that says she’s the best thing since slice bread causing some students to hate and envy her. Cue the surprise when you find out she’s not so perfect and ends up having an amazing bond with Chloe which serves both very well.So the game follows both in their ups and downs and how Chloe’s relationship develops with Frank. At the end of the game you see the familiar clip of Rachel’s phone ringing with 17 missed calls from Chloe whilst on the table and u can hear the familiar camera going in that room where Max was held in the first game, ultimately showcasing that Rachel was caught confirming what you found out happened to her in the first game. I think the developers didn’t want to make u play through that scene as ultimately u know what was going to happen and it would I suppose be quite traumatic seeing your character ultimately die.The bonus episode where you get to play as Max for one last time where Max and Chloe spend their final day together and at the end of the day Chloe finds out her dad dies that day was an amazing touch by the creators and ties everything up.Overall the game is definitely a 5 star game. Maybe not as great as the first one due to the ability to rewind time and other things you get to do. Not to mention the fact that the first game involves a lot more characters and thus is 5 episodes rather than the 3 in this game. But it doesn’t take away the fact the game is great emotional rollercoaster which ties in perfectly with the first game. As a result I’m actually going back to the first game to replay it with the knowledge I have from this game to see if any decisions I make will be different.Anyways can’t wait until all the episodes for life is strange 2 are available so I can play that game from start to finish as well. Big thumbs up to the creators for making these games.

Much like the original Life is Strange, this is something special (very special). The story isn't as big, there are two fewer episodes, and Max doesn't make an 'in person' appearance (but Chloe talks to Max in her diary, and you get to see how they fell out of contact (bad Max)).On paper, I, like many I think, thought this was a story that didn't need to be told. I basically put off playing it till now. I really wish I hadn't. It's every bit as good as, if not possibly even better than the original. For me, this game focuses even more on the elements thst made the first one so sensational (amazing characters, dialogue, and emotional story telling). The absense of the supernatural and other bells and whistles means this feels like a more direct game. You're Chloe Price and you love Rachel, this intense, charasmatic, but also in a way 'toxic' character, but you, like Chloe, love her anyway. Everything in the game seems to be basically there to push this theme. Whereas I felt there were more distractions and other stuff in general in the first game besides Max and Chloe. For me personally, I prefer the more straightforward approach of Before the Storm. And if Deck Nine (the makers of this one) make 'After the Storm', I hope they continue in this fashion. Just go all in on Max and Chloe. That's the strength of the original game, those characters.Music again is absolutely fantastic (it's my personal favourite of the three life is Strange games to date, but they're all amazing).Only negatives I can think of is that I felt it didn't start quite as well as the original, and the third episode kind of semi rushed an otherwise great plot and finale. I feel they should have stretched this to four or five episodes and kept the pacing of the first two episodes. Had it done that, I wouldn't hesitate to call this the best experience I've had gaming ever. For large portions of the game, it really was.The scenes with Chloe and her dad in her dreams were something else, like genuine too tier stuff, regardless of the form of media. Made me hurt like it was my own dad.Another thing I'd like to add. Life is Strange 1 felt like a much bigger story with a lot more on the line. And it was more complicated as a result, with more twists and turns as the story played out. I'm sure there are many who prefer that. Before the Storm is much more like a slice of life, with nothing so massive as a tornado killing a town or you losing your best friend/lover on the line. Its about two teenage girls trying to figure out the world and their place in it, both highly unsatisfied with what Arcadia Bay offers them, and annoyed with the lies around them, to the point where they want to run away together. It also explores, subtly mind you (but less subtle than the original game), sexuality. As Chloe and Rachel, regardless maybe of you play it, well, there's a very noticeable and heavy magnitiscm there. And it merges well with the original game when playing back to back. Makes you hurt more re Rachel in the original, and you understand Chloe more, why she acts how she does. And it just makes the final scene in the original with Max and Chloe at the lighthouse, the storm approaching Arcadia Bay, all the more emotional (and it already was emotional). After recently finishing Before the Storm (and the bonus episode Farewell, which is fan service at its best, and so emotional), I was left feeling so struck by it that I was unable to bear the dullness of other games, so I decided to follow on straight into Life is Strange 1 again. After finishing it, both games back to back, I'm in a state where its ruined every other game I have, at least temporarily. It's very hard to go from something as emotional as Life is Strange to almost any other game I can think of, as there's this huge drop in intensity, even if gameplay mechanics or graphics etc are better. Life is Strange 2 had a similar impact on me, but I dig the Chloe, Max, Rachel arc a lot more than Sean and Daniel.Basically, if you love the characters and emotions of Life is Strange 1, and you haven't played Before the Storm, you really need to.

Before the Storm tells the story of the early relationship between Chloe and Rachel Amber from the main first season. The biggest change from the main series is that the supernatural element of gameplay has been dropped to offer a more straightforward adventure style. I'd say BtS was better off for doing this in many ways, firstly because the overall storyline plays out to the end in a more coherent manner. Conversations feel more meaningful when they're offered as one time chances and especially more intense with the new backtalk feature. This let's you try and blag your opponent to get a favourable outcome. BtS manages to finish in a more satisfying manner too. Getting the best ending relies on your prior actions,as it should be in a game like this.If you haven't played the main season first I'd recommend you do so before this. I'd say it would make for a better experience playing as Max if you're not influenced by already knowing about the other characters. I can't see the bonus episode "Farewell" being as powerful either without playing everything else first. While a few annoying gameplay elements could have been improved, such as it automatically solving puzzles for me before I wanted it to, the story is an all-round great experience and makes it one memorable series.

I love this game, and the Life is Strange series. In places the dialogue can be a bit cringeworthy but that seems to just be an integral part of the series, and it's not gameplay ruining. The final (third) episode seems a little rushed, it's a little underwhelming, but the bonus episode, Farewell, is much better. It's worth buying just for the bonus episode. The limited edition comes in a lovely box with tue soundtrack on CD, a small book with artwork from the game and a free copy of the first episode of LiS Season 1.Be aware that despite being a physical disk the PC version is a Steam game so you'll need an internet connection to install the game and it does state this on the box.

A brilliant prequel to the original Life is Strange. There are three episodes, each of which is about two hours long, plus a bonus final episode that's an extra hour. You also get mixtape mode, which enables you to reimagine key scenes, DLC costumes if you care for that sort of thing, a little art book that matches the first one, and a CD soundtrack which matches the first one. Pretty pricey but it's a limited edition and I love this series. I think that the game is not quite as moving or high-stakes as the first, but it remains consistent and gripping even without the timetravel mechanic. Perfect for die-hard fans of this series, like me.

This is a great game, it includes Life Is Strange : Before The Storm (all episodes already installed), Outfit pack, Original soundtrack CD, Art Book, Mixtape Mode, Bonus episode (which needs Wi-Fi to download) and Life Is Strange episode 1 (All others episodes are on there but need to be downloaded using Wi-Fi) only problem for me is I don't have Wi-Fi so I am unable to play the rest of the games which is really upsetting so if you buy this game make sure you have Wi-Fi.

I was worried I wouldn't like this as much as Life is Strange but I loved it. I thought it was very well done and the story was great. It is Life is Strange so be ready for some angst but I really liked it. I did think the bonus episode was a little too hyped up, I thought it was just okay but the 3 main episodes are so much fun. I would love if Square Enix made more games like this one- where the story is driving the game forward. I would definitely recommend this.

If you loved the original life is strange then you’ll love this. This expands the Story of Rachel and Chloe and really shows what we’ve missed from the beginning. I feel this game was necessary as we get to learn more about Rachel Amber and the bonus episode really sets up for what is to come. Highly recommended game if you loved the original and can’t get enough of this franchise.

Ok the first season was exceptional, then before the storm tells a different story full of surprises and emotionally gripping. The answer back is a nice touch and the graffiti elements are fun. The bonus farewell episode was a nice end to the Chloe and Max story. And I recommend to all fan's of the original life is strange.

18.7.2018

I only bought this as I couldn’t get the game I really wanted and I didn’t know what to expect but this was such a good game. I could recommend it to anyone. It’s not exactly difficult really but it has such an amazing story that it hooks you in early on. I even went and bought Life Is Strange after playing it!

7.6.2018

Finished my first play through of this game last week and I am still thinking about it. It truly is a beautiful experience, you truly feel involved in the characters life and the soundtrack is stunning so if you buy this game pay the extra few quid and get the limited edition with the Soundtrack.

14.3.2021

I agree with the other five star reviews. This game is amazing and makes replaying the original even more heart wrenching. Now I have an emotional tie to Rachel as well! It makes it almost too much to play. Harsh! I hear there's another with Max and Chloe on the way, can't wait.

20.6.2019

This disc includes the first game 'life is strange' and the second game 'life is strange before the storm'. I brought the first life is strange not realising it was all on one disc with the before the storm sequel. Great game and collection for the price.

27.7.2018

Great game with a great story and characters. The series always does an amazing job in its character development, as well as tackling important themes and overall producing a detailed and meaningful story. Love it!
