Purchased for the kids (8 and 13) for Christmas 2012 they both and I love playing it. We have all got to 100% - that is we have achieved all the levels and found all the characters and mini-kits (ships in bottles). This took us about two months to complete including many hours played by me in the evenings on my `Slot'. So it is very good value for money. My son just loves going into it sometimes to play around in the port and have a few good sword/gun fights. He also loves the 20 ships that you can get in the port once you have found all the mini-kits in the chapters. The other Wii games are hardly getting a look in now we have this and another Lego game. There is lots of problem solving to do to get through the levels and earn mini-kits.My son whose 8 needs some help to figure things out but my daughter 13 takes pride in working it all out herself. Personally I can spend ages doing the wrong thing and then feel foolish I didn't see the actual solution quicker! The Lego characters have their own traits and we have had several funny moments in the house where the kids imitate the way the characters behave in the game. Having re-watched the films these traits can all be seen there.Tips for the beginner:1) You need to complete the first game which has several stages in order to see the full expanse of the game. This first game is in-fact the first chapter of 5 from the first film. Some reviewers have said they had to keep having to replay the same scene (the Blacksmiths). This is because they haven't completed this first chapter.2) Smash everything you can to get studs and often reveal an obscured item which you need.3) Use Jack Sparrow's compass in every arena and find all the things that are shown on it.4) Purchase red hats in the port area as these will help you earn treasure more quickly and do a host of other things. Spend your hard earned treasure wisely though!5) Once you have red hats make sure that you turn them on through Extras on the `+' menu whenever you start playing.6) If you drop something like a torch and it disappears go back to where you originally picked it up also check you haven't left it with another character!7) Women jump higher than men.8) As you get further into it more things open up in the port as you earn more gold bricks.9) There are loads of hints and tips on the `cheats' web sites but I managed to get through it all without their help though I caught my daughter on one once!10) Once you have seen the trailers to the chapters you can press `C' to skip them on subsequent visits. Many of them are very amusing so it is well worth watching them the first time.Still 5 stars but here are a few cons:1) The game has frozen a few times at frantic moments of play. Whilst being extremely annoying at the time it happens infrequently enough to be easily compensated for by the overall fun playing the game. I've seen this in Lego Clone Wars as well but not as frequently so far. You can reboot by holding the power button in for several seconds rather than having to switch off at the wall either way you lose everything since the last save icon was displayed.2) Characters can get stuck between objects this is normally solved by switching to another character or dropping that remote out. Assuming they aren't critical to completing the scene they release themselves to the next level when you move on.3) When playing on your own there are one or two scenes where it is very hard to complete without two remotes but it is normally possible. Normally when playing on your own the other characters follow you around and follow your lead of how to solve a problem. If they don't follow you make sure that they have the ability to do so if they don't switch and help them across or swap their character.4) The split screen with two players can be annoying but the benefit is that it can be fun working together to solve the levels and get treasure.5) Treasure goes mad once you have several red hat multipliers. We got into tens of billions which is impossible to spend! Lego Star Wars - The Clone Wars

I have become quite addicted to the Lego video games, and my latest game is Lego Pirates of the Caribbean for Wii. It’s a fun addition to this video game franchise. In fact, if you are familiar with the franchise already, I’m going to make this short and sweet. It’s more of the same. If that sounds good to you, get the game. If you were hoping for something different, you’ll be disappointed. You get five levels for each of the four movies in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Other then a couple of small variations on the theme, you’ve seen it before.Looking for more detail? Keep reading. The Lego video game franchise takes popular movie franchises and recreates the movies using Lego characters and settings. This game features all four Pirates movies, and five levels for each movie, so all told there are 20 levels of play here. The first time you play through each level, you play in Story Mode, doing your best to get through that part of the story with the assigned characters. Once you’ve done that, you can start playing in Freeplay. In this mode, you can bring other characters who weren’t in that scene with you. You can also bring villains you’ve unlocked along. There are some areas you can only unlock and explore in Freeplay, so you'll definitely want to do that.Along with just completing the level, you have several missions. You need to collect Lego studs. Quite a few of them are sitting on the ground, but you can find more by building and/or destroying things. When you hit a certain threshold (different on every level) you reach “Real Pirate” status. The points from the studs you collect carry over, and you use them to unlock certain characters for Freeplay or helps that you’ve unlocked. You also need to collect 10 "bottles" in each level to complete a minikit.Really, it usually takes more than once through Story and Freeplay to unlock everything I need to from a level. That means you get lots of play time from this game. There are always at least two characters you can play on the screen at a time since this game is designed for one or two players. I’ve only played by myself, and it’s easy to switch between characters as you need to. In fact, they’ve added a wheel, so if there are multiple characters on the screen, you can choose which one in particular you want to play as. When enemies attack, the computer won’t defeat them, just keep them at bay. But if a puzzle requires two players to solve, the computer will do its part. When an enemy or something else kills you, you lose some of the studs you’ve collected. Even if you get down to zero, you can keep playing. This is one feature I like since there are no more frustrating parts of getting to a certain point and dying. As long as you keep moving forward, you will finish all of the level. The game uses the Wiimote and the Nunchuck controllers, and frankly everything becomes second nature after a little bit of game play. It does seem a bit more finicky about picking things up than other Lego games have been, but once you know that, it’s okay.Graphic? They won’t blow you away. This game is on the cartoony side of animation. The graphics are certainly good enough that you can tell what is happening and what you should be doing. But this is a Lego video game, and I wouldn’t expect anything realistic from a game with plastic characters as the main characters. The sound effects are good. They’ve got swords clashing and other fun things like that. And the background music includes the soundtracks from the films, so it’s great. The Lego games always have fun cut scenes taken from the film to bridge the various stages of the level. This one is no exception; however, I feel they overwhelm the game play at times. This is especially true of the opening, which takes a couple of minutes to recreate the first scene of the first movie. You can’t skip it but must watch every time you turn the game on.Still, Lego Pirates of the Caribbean for Wii is another fun installment. Fans of either franchise will have hours of enjoyment before them.

As a happy owner of all current LEGO ____ games I preordered this one with months to go.More than happy that it arrived on the day of official release to say the least.First impressions when I turned it on was that the cutscenes were awfully pixellated. I was using a DSIxl at the time and even when in a smaller DS there's the same problem. - this comes from the game being made for larger platforms and scaling down as a personal thought. Then when gameplay began the graphics are different from past titles on the DS, this is something that is easy to overcome as the camera follows the player and the levels are huge.Yes, the levels are large, which makes up *almost* for only four levels per movie. Each level as usual has a story mode and a freeplay mode where players can pick up all the nifty bonuses. The only thing is with the levels being few there's little point in bothering with most of the bonuses unless you intend for lengthy replays. Which is always a possibility as the game does host the usual LEGO whimsy. My only complaint is that the duel system gets a little tedious, but this is coming from an older gamer, rather than someone closer to the 7yr old minimum age who would more likely be entertained by the sequences. That said the game doesn't suddenly take on the classic 'nintendo hard' syndrome, which means anyone can play the game with security in knowing that the game gets steadily trickier with knowledge and skills gained on earlier levels. The whole thing opens up with a tutorial level and there are tips and hints around to remind users of what to press and where (which sometimes gets a little annoying when you know darn well what you are doing).Overall the game is a good buy, even before you see the last film. In all honesty it helps if you watch the films to know what's going on sometimes, which is why they've probably done it that way. There are spoilers for the last film, but nothing a Pirates fan can't predict and know about from the trailers already. With 16 levels of Pirates and LEGO humour, many playable characters, and many advantages to replaying the whole thing again this is definitely an addition to any DS game collection.(i have yet to find the remaining 4 of the advertised 20 - they could mean that with the free play vs the story. But it could be a 100% bonus or something. I will edit when i get there.)

Lego adds its touch to another popular film series. Its nicely focused, and a great addition to the series. But technical issues and glitches prevent it from being perfect. Many of the films scenes are recreated well, there's a great stage fighting on the rolling wheel from Dead Man's Chest; the madness of Davey Jones' locker is also captured well. The storyline is stripped down to the basics, which makes the middle films seem much less confusing. As expected for the Lego franchise, cut scenes are variations on moments from the films, with some very humorous touches. There are 20 main levels, 5 for each film, which can be accessed from a beautifully created hub area. There's a tavern, and even a bonus level which is a great homage to Pirates of the Caribbean's original roots as a theme park attraction. There's an overwhelming amount of characters to select, from many versions of Jack Sparrow to obscure minor characters. One criticism regards the select option, which can take a long time to work, and sometimes returns completely the wrong character. It's a small problem, but one which delays play for several seconds.Collectibles are Lego's specialty, and Pirates contains a large selection of hidden items and easter eggs. Finding 10 Mini Kits on any level unlocks a boat in the harbour at the main hub. Access to secret areas are usually character specific, and available when replaying the game in Free Play mode. These usually require the power of Blackbeard's sword or the singing talents of Philip or Syrena. Gameplay is nicely specific to the franchise, with cannon battles, explosives and boat rides. Jack Sparrows compass also uncovers hidden items throughout each level, which is a nice touch.2 player mode is great fun, although the opportunity for online co-op is wasted. The game is also prone to freezes and glitches, which can require anything from restarting a level, to rebooting the console, which is a massive shame. Because otherwise, Lego Pirates of the Caribbean is the best Lego game in some time.

Precisely balanced platforming? Check. Plastic slapstick? Check. An almost upsetting quantity of collectibles? Check, check, check, check... You might fear that the Lego formula would be getting stale by now, but I've got some banana-throwing monkeys and a chap called Jack Sparrow that say different.Spanning all four Pirates films, this jumps from desert islands to towns full of swashbucklers swigging tea (an age-appropriate replacement of grog) bringing its cast along for the ride. Tiny Jack Sparrow is another Lego triumph, wobbling about on his little plastic legs, and cursed pirates Davy Jones and Barbossa make for great fun. As usual each character has a special skill - ladies can double jump,Jack can use his compass to find trails to helpful objects, Bootstrap Bill can even sink into various parts of scenery and appear at another point. There are plenty of multi-part puzzles to keep things interesting too - such as finding a bone to get a dog to join your crew, so he can dig up the bricks you need to build some steps. The standard Lego humour is in place in the gameplay as well at the cut-scenes, with new diversions such as pig riding, fish throwing and battling naughty monkeys to keep the smirks coming. (One more banana from you, Bubbles, and it's off to the medical testing lab!)This being a pirate game, there's a lot of sword fighting too. Sometimes the onslaught of enemies can feel a bit overwhelming, and even with the help of another hardened gamer (the co-op is, as usual, brilliantly executed) it took a while to figure out how to kill the kraken, but it's a minor gripe. After all, this is family-friendly, so you're never going to experience that horrid, ventricle-damaging level of frustration. There's no creation mode, but to be honest there's so much variety in the different levels, from Singapore swamps to exploring every part of Davy Jones' ship, you don't really miss it. It might not be quite as magical as Harry Potter, but it's still as satisfying as a rum cocktail on a sunny day.

It seems a long time now since the first Lego Star Wars game heralded a new wave of amusing and very playable titles that appeal to a wide mix of gamers. The subsequent Lego releases and tweaks to the gameplay have been a mixed bag but this one is up there with the best. The basic mechanics are unchanged and as the blurb - rather pointlessly - points out, there are a host of new characters to unlock. The two-player co-op mode is as before and you can easily switch between players directly using a pop-up dial rather than having to be close enough to tag them. The puzzles have become more detailed though, often requiring several steps for completion using a wide variety of items including the novelty of Captain Jack's compass. As with the other Lego games although you can get stuck and/or keep dying you essentially have infinite lives and there is always a way to solve the puzzle. Like all good puzzles once the solution hits you, you usually wonder why you hadn't seen it before. The graphics are pretty good by Wii standards with the chunky Lego characters set against a detailed background. The music is taken from the films and little touches like Jack Sparrow's staggering walk and surprised grunts do a good job of capturing the feel of the films. The levels are much harder to reach 'True Pirate' on the first play through and the minikits also require a lot more use of unlocked characters in free play. Overall the game manages a good balance of difficulty whilst still maintaining playability, enjoyment and interest. It's true that there is nothing groundbreaking here but if you want a fun game that mixes humour and thought with smashing up loads of props then this will provide many hours of enjoyment.

I bought this game because I just love the challenge it provides. These computer games are not simply designed for children because mature adults like me can get just as much satisfaction and pleasure from them. I try hard to convince my wife that they are great to play but she find it hard to see the attraction. I find that they keep my mind sharp and encourage logical thinking and problem solving. The more challenging the problems are, the more satisfied you feel when you overcome them. These Lego games are so well designed because you gradually gather skills as you go through them and you are encouraged to continue when you get rewards along the way.You slowly pick up new characters with different skills which help you unlock new areas in which to collect the required items. It is useful to have watched the films first so that you have some idea of the story. In this game I admit that I did have to enlist the help of my son to get me past certain bits but I did eventually manage to complete it. It took me while to realise how to collect all of the characters when walking around the port area. I do find some of the film clips at the start of each level a bit tedious even though they are very well made. The graphics are probably not as good as the glossy modern games but to me they work very well. You can of course skip these clips when you've had one run through the level. I also love all of the humorous clips like the pig spraying a man with deodorant because he smells! I would recommend all older people to have a go at these games because they help to keep you young and keep your brain active

As ever, the Lego collect-a-thon is a wealth of smashable things and collectible objects with fun- if basic- puzzles, platforming and fighting, held together by a colourful sense of fun. It's a format that appeals to the inner child or inner hoarder in all of us which is why the Lego games have had so many iterations. The thing is, each addition demands something new to set it apart from the other members of the Lego Stables, so what booty is this one laden with?Well, there's Jack's compass. As in the films, the compass points to whatever Jack desires so here it's used for...collecting items. Anyone signed up to a Lego game will be expecting collecting but with the compass out,Jack can only walk restricting you to a snail's pace (often while getting shot at and unable to fight back). No real new ground is broken, then and there are a few things that are marginally worse. You can now buy any character you've encountered in story mode but first you find them wandering around the hub level and beat them in combat. Different characters appear randomly in different areas of the hub but you don't know where and as they're not always there you can't eliminate anywhere with certainty. It makes getting them all a drawn-out, frustrating experience. When the only criticisms you have for a game are that it's similar to other good games or minor details like above, it can't be bad, but it remains the least of the Lego games. Maybe it's just that the other franchises are better-loved or maybe it's too much of a similar thing. By all means buy this, but buy the other ones first.

Ahoy, me hearties! Yes, it's another Lego adventure and this time we're on the quest for treasure. The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise was a great choice for a Lego makeover and we join Jack Sparrow and his crew on a journey spanning the four films. There are 20 levels to complete, five per film, and you will find yourself roaming the towns, exploring ships and sword-fighting to your hearts content. The graphics of the game are brilliant and there's a huge variety of characters to enjoy in all their miniature glory including Will Turner, Captain Barbossa, mermaids, pirates and even a skeleton Jack who carries a cursed medallion. Each character is incredibly fun to play and has useful skills such as walking underwater, singing in mermish, mystical powers or certain weaponry which are essential to a particular level. I particularly enjoyed playing as Jack Sparrow as he sways and saunters around like in the movies while using his compass to find collectibles. There is a free-play element so that you can replay the levels as any of your favourite characters and there is drop-in-drop-out gameplay so you can team up with a friend. There's also an absurd number of collectable items, hidden levels and trophies to uncover throughout the game so there is plenty to keep you busy. I would definitely recommend this Lego game if you're in the mood for a light-hearted pirate adventure.

Pirates of the Caribbean is perfect for the LEGO Fix, iconic characters, locations and music! The game takes you through the 4 movies, each containing 5 levels, the level selection area is SO much more organized that LEGO Indiana Jones 2 and LEGO Harry Potter. The game is about 10 hours long, however if your going for all the collectibles and characters, the game length can triple. The graphics have gone a long way since LEGO Star Wars , considering it's LEGO, the lighting effects and environments are detailed and nice to look at. Coming into this game, don't expect anything unique added to the game, i do like the fact that it's a lot easier to stay on tight ledges, and the combat and sword fights are VERY in-depth.the usual " i don't know were to go" aspects are still here, even if you've seen the movies, the puzzles still can be confusing. Your going to get a lot of flashbacks, just like any LEGO game, the characters speaking is just mumbling, but if you've seen the movies, your really gonna recognize the cut scenes here, with some LEGO humour added into the mix. C'mon, STILL no online Co-Op! You've would've thought after all these LEGO games they would have added online Co-Op...As long as your not tired of the LEGO games, this is a awesome! A Definite buy.

i have bought all the lego games so far except the star wars collection and out of indiana jones, indiana jones 2 and harry potter 1-4 this is the best so far, the game includes all 3 dvd movies and the fourth that has not even been released in the cinema yet, you can even play as Blackbeard. the menu where you choose the chapter you want to play is at a dock, i bought this game on thursday 12th may and it arrived on saturday 14th may i am now on the last movie (on stranger tides) but i will now have to go back into the last chapters to collect the mini kits and the compass items to get all the gold bricks which will probably take me the rest of the week if i play it non stop.the only down side is that from what i know at the moment you cant create your own level but mabie you unlock that at the end of the game. my overall review of PIRATES OF THE CARRIBBEAN LEGO GAME is that it is amazing if you are a lego lover or a lego game lover you have got to get it, and for those who havent played a lego game try it, i never thought i would like them and i went round my mates house on day and tryed it and ive loved them ever since. ******

I purchased this game recently as a present for my 4 year old son.My son had already played Lego Batman on the Wii, so I decided this would be a great treat since he loved Batman Lego. The game focuses on the 4 films, and you can move between films at your leisure. Each map represents one of the films, and you have 5 levels to play through to unlock that map.As a family we're still playing through this game, over 80 characters to unlock / purchase, and some puzzles on each level to keep you guessing. You'll find if you have young children that mum and dad will have to get involved as sometimes the levels need an adult mind to unlock, even then some parents will still be left scratching their head.Overall a fantastic game, and as with most Wii games not just for the kids. The humour from the films is captured in the game play, and the lego characters act out some very funny parts from the films.PS. Amazon were the cheapest around for this game, I paid just over £20 brand new!

Having played other Lego games like Harry Potter, Indiana Jones and Star Wars, I was looking forward to this POTC release. As others have said, it's great fun and you can spend hours playing through all four movies. The humour is not quite up to the standard of other games in the Lego series and some levels are certainly more challenging than the earlier games. There is however one really annoying problem. The game crashes occasionally; the screen freezes and the loud buzzing noise eminates from the Wii console. The only option is to pull the power cable out and put it back in again, thus losing all progress made on that level. It seems to happen more often on the last episode "on stranger tides",but after powering off/on, you are able to progress past the point at which it crashed (usually). Nevertheless, it's a great fun game and highly recommended!

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.That's what they say, and so it is here with this game from the Lego series. Not all lego games have followed the same format, Harry Potter years 1-4 and Lego Battles are different. Whilst Harry Potter is good, the format used on Pirates of the Caribbean is by far the best. Pirates of the Caribbean shares exactly the same layout as Indiana Jones 1 & 2, Star Wars 1, 2 & 3 and Batman.Work your way through the films a level at a time, returning to each one again and again once more characters are unlocked. As with the other games, the Lego theme is very strong and the tongue in cheek approach is very good too. If you have played and enjoyed any other of the Lego games, you'll love this too. It doesn't matter if you have never seen the films either, the game is entertaining and easy to play.

Great game. Funny, engaging, and the mini puzzles/challenges really get the players thinking. For those who haven't read about the game, gameplay does require the nunchuck as well as the remote, so those not used to playing games this way (many kids will only have used only the remote if they mainly play Mario style platform games etc) may be in for a bit of a surprise whilst you get used to it, so for the first few days I controlled the remote whilst my boy used the nunchuck. This in itself was good fun though. Graphics aren't exactly mind blowing, but certainly good enough, and I don't think this was ever designed to be a rival to CoD or Crysis 2.The tongue in cheek humour of any Lego production meets the zany fantasy pirate world of the films and works superbly in my opinion.
