I am a no fuss kind of woman, but I do look for certain things when looking at a handbag; durability, practicality, somewhat stylish (not a back-pack)and the natural-ness in colour (those are my only needs).Durability is the most important factor in a bag for me as I'm a busy mum, university student (I'm a 'mature' student) and always on the go (whether it be appointments etc.). Kipling is just the ticket for that- forget big designers and hefty price tags, if you want longevity go for this (or other Kipling bags). I have had other bags (no designer bags but at the very least you'd expect them to last for more than a few months) and they do not compare.I have another Kipling bag (which is too small for all my stuff),that has been used time and time again and is still going strong 7 years later! Whoever invented the fabric to these needs a promotion ASAP!Practicality is also a must. You do not want to be fumbly-jumbly looking for your bus ticket (or other miscellaneous stuff) when you are out and about. This bag has four main sections. The front pocket if perfect to have keys and essentials in (It is big but flat- not quite A4) It has a zip. The second compartment has space for a phone, tablet, e-reader, etc. Again this compartment is flat, but electronics could easily fit in (but I would avoid if you have an older, larger laptop like myself). This also has a zipper. The Middle compartment of the bag is very roomy, but not the most waterproof as it has a magnetic clasp closing mechanism. I don't know why Kipling didn't give this a zip as it made the most sense, but nevertheless it does fit an absolute ton of things into it (all of my uni textbooks) It also has a large inner pocket which would be handy for a wide variety of different things . The third compartment is also flat, but very padded (I would totally trust a tablet being in there). It could also fit in an A4book into it which was a must for me.Somewhat stylish- This is debatable- not everyone has the same taste and you might think it's the ugliest thing in the world, but it's not exactly offensive and excessive. I did not want a back pack to fit all of my stuff into- they are not practical (at least not for me) and I always felt like backpacks could only be pulled off by people with a certain look (I am not one of those people-I just look like a nearly 30 something trying to look young and failing- think Edwina Monsoon from AbFab trying to stay 'hip'). I also wanted something I could use as a handbag so I wouldn't have to carry two separate bags and this does that- it ticks all the boxes. It is darker than pictured, but I am completely fine with that as I actually wanted something a little less 'orangey brown' but if you are unsure about the colours, I suggest you go to your local handbag store that stocks Kipling and look at the colours before you buy it as I imagine that if you are set on something being a certain colour and it comes darker, you would be quite disappointed or irked.Lastly- Neutral- yes it is, but don't let that put you off choosing an outrageous colour (Outrageous simply isn't me, but it might be you and you might rock it)!

I am a real fan of the Kipling brand so I had high hopes for this larger bag and I was not disappointed. First of all, the colour; tango red is beautifull. I was worried that it might be a bit orangey based on how it looks on my computer, but it isn't at all. It is a strong, bright, unapologetic red and I love it. I like the sleek lines of the design of this bag too. It does have separate compartments to organise your belongings, but this isn't obvious when you look at the bag. The main compartment in the middle of the bag is secured by a magnetic popper rather than a zip. It's big enough to get my 11 inch Macbook Air in, wearing its sleeve, and you'd get a bigger laptop in sleeve in there too,up to about 15 inches in terms of screen size. Inside this compartment, there is also a zipped section which runs all the way across the width of the bag. On either side of the main compartment are zipped compartments. Inside the front one there are slip pockets big enough for a smart phone, a pen, iPod etc and a cord with a clip on the end to keep your keys safe. The back compartment doesn't have any additional features. Incidentally, the lining is grey with white polka dots, which you'll find inside most of the most recent Kipling designs. At the very front of the bag, there is a further compartment secured by a slightly concealed zip. There is a lot of space here. You will definitely get an A4 ring binder into the middle section, and A4 papers in a plastic wallet will fit into any of the three main sections. If you don't want to put too much into the bag, there are poppers on each side to retain a narrower profile at the top; when opened, they do increase the breadth of the bag. The base of the bag is fairly broad - a useful indication that you can get quite a lot inside it.Kipling bags are superb quality and this one more than meets my expectations. The zips and stitching are very good, and although the nylon fabric is light, it is very hard-wearing and also provides good protection when you are out and about in the rain. You can either use the handles on the bag (which are plenty long enough to go over my shoulder) or there is a removable shoulder strap if you prefer to use this. This would make an excellent work bag or college bag for a student. Although it isn't the cheapest option, I think that in this case, the adage "you get what you pay for" rings true. It will last and last, and continue to look good for years.

I had been eyeing up the Halia for a while, so when a Today's Deal came up I was forced to order the Block Print, which I really liked the look of, and the Tango as backup in case I didn't like it in reality. The Block Print really is lovely, so although the Tango is a gorgeous red it will go backI initially thought the bag was too small to be an A4 bag, but the centre compartment easily took a standard A4 hard sided ring binder and a text book and notepad, leaving lots of room in the rest of the bag. It's a really super bag, but I'm beginning to wonder why Kipling can never make the perfect (for me) bag.1. The central compartment is very roomy, but its closure is by a single popper in the middle. This means that if you're carrying the bag in the rain, it might leak. One solution would be to put your papers into a carry bag, which takes away from the classy effect a bit! The gap also becomes bigger if you use the shoulder strap. On the plus side, it isn't velcro, but I do think that having more than one popper would have helped. The zip up side sections are not wide enough to get the folder in. Incidentally, the usual internal zip pocket is in this section.2. I have a slight worry about the attachment of the handles to the bag. Most of my other large Kiplings have the attachment at the top, so the strain isn't on the material at the sides. With just the above mentioned items in it, you could see strain lines on the bag of the bag. I'm sure the normal Kipling quality means there won't be a problem with them holding, but it was a bit of a surprise.I really like the Halia, but if I'd paid full price I would probably have sent it back because of the potential to leak. If you aren't planning on using it in a Scottish winter however, I would definitely recommend it!Edited to add - I like this bag more the more I use it - I still wish there had been an additional central popper, but I have just bought the Zebra print as well, which looks fantastic. I almost kept the chequered Black Pearl as well, as the chequer effect is actually woven Kipling fabric and not a print and looks really lovely, but I would have preferred it to be on both sides of the bag.

Wow - I love red handbags and this is a really bright true red - no orange or pink hues - proper scarlet. It is made of really strong highly showerproof fabric. Previous red bags I have owned have leaked colour through the lining onto the interior and my poessions and/or onto my clothing. This morning I got really soaked out and about and my poessions remained clean and intact as did my clothing.Everything is sewed really well and the fittings such as the black and silver zips and pulls are really sturdy. It is lined in a lovely grey and white spotted fabric dotted with a monkey (with a long tail) logo. and has an inner zipped pocket and two open pockets - one thin and one wider. It also has a press hook on a red strip pf the fabric that reaches the zip to secure a purse or camera etc to for extra security. However, the bag I received has no carry handles just the shoulder strap. I have fished the packaging out of the bin and think it is the "Aleyna" model not the "Halia" in the picture - although it is the Tango Red.The only downside for me was the size as I wanted to use it to carry my college file and lunch box.The bag is listed as A4 size which is why it particularly appealed to me but it is not big enough to accomodate a ring binder on its side as the zip is not full length along the top of the bag. However this may be because the bag sent to me was a slightly different design. Flexible plastic A4 folders will fit when bent a little to get inside though. The inside is roomy as the bag has a flat bottom and can easily fit a lunch box, small water bottle, wallet, phone, kindle, thin cardigan, folding umbrella etc (all my daily needs). The long adjustable strap is long enough to wear across the body on full length or comes just below my hips on my shoulder ( I'm 5ft5) when on shortest length the bag fits nicely few inches below my armpit.

I own a number of Kipling bags, all of which are five star. I first saw the Kipling Halia when it was demonstrated on QVC but the three designs shown were patterned and I wanted a large Dusty Grey bag. I was pleased to see that Amazon sold the style in plain colours but felt it was far too expensive, When the bag was chosen as Amazon's Editors Deal of the Day last week, which meant a price reduction, I ordered it. When I opened the box and first saw the bag, I was underwhelmed and immediately undecided as to whether I should keep it.Writing a review of the Kipling Halia has focused me on the pros and cons of the style and has convinced me to keep it. First I awarded the bag a mediocre three stars because, compared to my other bags, it is rather plain and boxy. Quite often, the zips on a Kipling bag are a fashion detail and the zips on this bag are all concealed so it is just a big, plain canvas. However, on further consideration, I added a fourth star because the Halia is a sturdy, good-looking work/everyday bag and capacious (15" (38mm) width by 11" (28mm) height and 6" (15mm) depth, with two poppers at either side at the top of the bag which when released expands the bag and enables that depth at the top of the bag, therefore holds a lot, and keeps its shape even when packed. Most of all, I love the handles - and only considered buying the bag because I was waiting for a big bag with these handles as opposed to the usual Kipling woven strap - they are firm and comfortable on the shoulder. This is not a wow bag but it is Kipling which means the design is well thought out, the construction is sound and the bag will look as good in five years as it does today.

First off, the description of this bag as "unisex" is very wrong - make no mistake, this is a woman's handbag / briefcase, not something a man would be seen carrying. That said, it's a very practical one. The exterior feels like a tough nylon, which looks to be pretty waterproof. The lining is a similar fabric with a slightly less soft feel, with a pattern of polka dots and the occasional monkey motif. There are lots of pockets. The main central compartment is flanked on each side by a zipped compartment the same size, one of which contains organiser pockets and a lanyard for keys. There's an additional slightly shallower zipped pocket on the front, and another zipped pocket on the inside of the main compartment - no excuse for not being organised, and it'll hold a lot. The zipped inner pockets will comfortably hold a small laptop, for example - this is probably more of a business briefcase than a handbag, size-wise.There's a detachable shoulder strap, which feels a bit of an afterthought - I think the idea is that you use the handles most of the time. But other than that, quality seems good - this feels as if it is built to last, and it is big enough to carry everything you might need for the office. If you need a more stylish alternative to a laptop bag, this looks like a good option.

I love this Kipling bag. I bought it to use as my new work bag and when I saw this one was at the reduced price I simply had to buy it. It's so stylish and professional looking. Deceivingly huge!!! Having the three compartments and one more at the front of the bag provides versatile functionality for the working person. And this bag has all the usual Kipling features such as the mobile phone pocket, inside zip pocket and key fob. As well as a fur Kipling Monkey! It does fit A4 files/folders etc and I can fit my 15'' laptop in the main compartment. I like having the two zipped compartments either side of the larger middle one, they provide a feeling of security where as the centre compartment has a magnetic snapper which is easy to get in an out of and allows for extra space. I can get my lunch box and a bottle of water in too so has great organisational value. This bag would make an ideal school or college bag and I'm sure any student would love to receive this for their Christmas or Birthday present. The colour options are great. I got the crimson red which is a subtle deeper red so goes with any work outfit. I really like the fact that the handles fit neatly over my shoulder making it comfortable to wear and carry to work.

This was attained via the Amazon vine programme and is a review as to whether I would buy or otherwise recommend the item.Got this for the wife so here are her comments about it.Loved it the moment I saw it. Well made bag of good size to accommodate everyday needs and then some. This really is a great sized bag big enough for me to carry and store all my stuff (and there is lots of it), at the same time the bag never feels bulky or excessively large.Quality and durability of materials finish and styling is great and and justify the price of the bag. Material feels soft and luxurious whilst also maintaining waterproofing enough to stop it getting soaked through, which is sometimes the downside of these types of material finish bags. Can be worn as a traditional handled handbag as well as an over the shoulder (using a detachable strap). The inside of the bag is no disappointment with plenty of zips compartments to keep even the fussiest girl happyThis is the very first Kipling bag I have owned and if the workmanship, quality and last-ability of the bag remain I would not hesitate buying or recommending another one of these as either a gift or for myself

Super delivery on this, arriving on time and well packaged. Bag is exactly as I expected from Kipling. The grab handles are large enough to sit comfortably on the shoulder and the long strap is adjustable with ease. Three compartments are roomy and the zips run, as Kipling's zips do, first time every time with no snagging or getting stuck. Front pocket isn't zipped, but held with Kipling's Velcro fastener - it's strong enough not to pop open but easy to rip apart when digging for travel card, tissues or sweeties (or whatever go-to bits n bobs you need to keep it in).The bag itself is well made, true to colour and lightweight meaning when I fill it up with all my day to day stuff, including my lunch and umbrella and spare shoes, it won't add unnecessary extra weight. It's deceptively large inside and you could really pack this bag out and still carry it comfortably. I have more Kipling bags than I can use really, but this one is on the smarter side and perfect for commuting to work. I'm going to buy another in a different colour as this style and size of bag is spot on for me.

I'm delighted with this bag and use it daily. It's perfect for work and allows me to carry as much or as little as I need to. It fits A4 size pages/folders, a small laptop, and anything else I might need on a daily basis. It sits comfortably on my shoulder. The zipped pockets are great, as is the smaller interior zipped pocket in the middle compartment. It allows me to organise the contents of my bag so I'm never searching for anything for too long. The main front pocket has the pen and phone holders and the little clip for your keys which I'm very fond of as it significantly reduces the amount of rummaging through my bag before I can get in the door.I love the colour as it is perfect for appearing professional without being too dull. The fact that there are no zips or pockets (bar one cleverly hidden zip) on the front or back which are common in Kipling bags also lends itself to a cleaner, more professional look.I bought this bag while it was half price on an Amazon deal of the day, so it was very good value.

The features I particularly like about the Halia are;Larger size with plenty of room for bulkier items.Bag can be converted to hand or over the shoulder just by detaching the strap.Plenty of inner pockets for all essential bits and pieces and they're a realistic size. They've used waterproof fabric on the outer bag - no more worries if you're caught in a light rain shower. The shoulder strap is adjustable and the carry handles are thick enough they don't cut into my hand when the bag's full.Versatile - use for shopping, work or a day out.Kipling bags are always good quality, I have quite a few, and the Halia is no exception.Finishing is great and the chunky zips and other fasteners never seem to snag or break....at least in my experience.I admit to being a fan but that's only because I've used the brand for years, my oldest Kipling is around 12 years old, and found the bags durable, versatile and pretty.More than happy to recommend.

Lovely bag, made even better by the addition of a zip pocket on the rear unlike other Halias. This is quite a big bag for everyday use as a handbag but is great if you carry A4 paperwork or notebooks, so a work or student bag perhaps. It is my favourite bag for exhibitions because I can put my filofax and valuables securely in the front zip section, and use the central open section for picking up leaflets and brochures and popping in shopping without having to fiddle with zips or expose my purse to would be thieves. The only change I would make would be to attach the shoulder strap to the ends of the bag rather than close to the handles on either side, but maybe that would make it gape.

If you are looking for the bag to fit your A4 files, including the ones with hard covers, this is the bag for you! You will not have to manipulate your files or bend any corners to fit anything in the middle compartment. It fits everything with ease. I just wish I bought it ages ago. This is perfect bag for ladies out there who need a briefcase for work but prefer to look bit more stylish and would like to carry all your work stuff in 1 bag. As for colour, it is pure dream, beautiful, elegant, practical, modern and superb value for money bag. One thing I would like to moan about is not being able to award more then 5 stars as this bag certainly deserves it.

Bought one of these for myself a while ago in the grey. A friend saw it and asked me to get her one. She loves it. This bag is a good size. It is an oblong shape. A perfect work bag. It has three zipped sections. A padded section for a small notebook or 10" tablet. A section for your phone, techno gadgets, keys, makeup bag, purse etc. A concealed zip pocket (which is as deep as the bag) at the front which is perfect for a pass or travel documents. Finally, there is a compartment in the centre that closes with a magnetic stud for a newspaper, magazines, brolly, tissues or anything you want to have easy access to. Quick delivery too. Thanks Amazon.

While I love the style of this bag I also wish they made a smaller version of it.This can be used as an overnight bag it's so big.I'm not at all sure about the purple it's a cheap and shiny looking material, but since I got the bag very cheap I wont be returning it.It could easily be used as a ladies briefcase type bag for work, and you wouldn't need to carry anything else.It would take a small laptop along with anything else that was needed for the day.It would aslo make an excellent day bag for anyone who was out and about with a couple of kids. There is seriously no limit to what you can cram into this bag including a days shopping if need be.
