This is only the second time an aftershave/cologne has actually made me laugh when I opened the box. This bad boy comes complete in its own leather jacket, complete with zips.Be warned, it's as heavy as a suit of armour! When it arrived I gave myself one quick spritz just before heading out to a lunchtime meeting. And immediately wondered if I would need to take a quick shower in case the lady I was meeting thought I had ulterior motives for the meeting! It didn't help that this is DEFINITELY a scent for an evening, possibly romantic engagement, not for the office!Oh, and I can't agree with the reviewer who reckoned that this stuff had no staying power.

John Varvatos men's perfumeries have entered into a worldwide exclusive licensing agreement with Elizabeth Arden, so for that reason alone I imagine high prices will not surprise you. This particular offering has strong reasons of its own for being pricy, and I guess that men who buy it will do so for one or both of these reasons -- they take the issue (and themselves) rather seriously; or/and they have a sense of humour of a rather special kind.This Dark Rebel Rider Eau de Toilette proclaims its 'quality' all the way. This fragrance from John Varvatos is quite similar to the ‘Dark Rebel’ sister fragrance that I have also tried, in that it has the same spicy tones, but to my nose there is a notable aquatic note to this variant (probably the wrong terminology). I think I prefer it to the standard Dark Rebel as it takes the edge of the spices and makes it a bit more palatable, as I found the other fragrance a bit overbearing at times. Like Dark Rebel I do find this one fairly potent for the first few hours, and then it drops off (although not as much), so you might find you have to re-apply later on in the day, but that depends how noticable you like to have your scent.

Thanks to Amazon for providing this John Varvatos Dark Rebel Rider Eau De Toilette Spray for review. It was a gift but I won't let that cloud my judgement.First of all, this is what I would call aftershave and it has a spray top so you don't waste any trying to cup it in your hands to slap on your face. A couple of sprays under the chin lasts the best part of the day. The good news is that, if you like it, it can be described to someone in a shop as the 'aftershave that comes in a black leather jacket'. It's good marketing and a bit over-the-top but I think it's clever. You can always unzip and remove the leather pouch if you don't want your bathroom to look like a rock star's boudoir.

John Varvatos Dark Rebel Rider Eau de Toilette Spray, 75ml arrives in a nice sealed box opening reveals the leather clad with zips Eau de Toilette Spray. This has a strong appeal both in design and its quality like appearance, its not going to appeal to everyone but it will appeal to some. I note the scent is probably not a office bound one and more for evening out, however don't rule out wearing in the office. The scent does dissipate as the day goes on. I found the scent unusually appealing, as a preference I usually select a parfum for its longevity over a Eau de Toilette. The scent is nice distinctive and appealing, its different and I like the dramatic change from usual.

This is a lot of fun if fun is what you fancy when purchasing an expensive male oriented scent. The box with its leather jacket photo is a bit biker style but once opened the bottle with zipped up jacket is fun. Not sure if this aimed at an early twenties guy or not. As a lad a little bit older (who am I kidding?) I have applied some of this and it is quite strong and does last several hours and is a pleasant rich orangey scent from my assessment. I would certainly give this as a gift to a younger lad and one who does like to make a statement in terms of how he smells! I do not think this will go down as well with a much older male.

This is a very deep and woody, tobacco fragrance, which is definitely much better suited to an intimate evening date, than to the office or a summer barbecue. I particularly like it after a couple of hours. But, it loses one star because it doesn't project very well. When I first tried it, my wife had to come within a couple of centimetres before she could smell it on me at all. I don't really buy into the "bad boy biker" imagery (I'd be more likely to associate beer and sweat with leather-clad bikers, than "eau de toilette"), but you might reasonably expect quite a powerful fragrance, based on the marketing. While this fragrance is certainly intriguing and dark, it is not very strong.

A particularly strong, masculine scent, with leather and woody notes.Described elsewhere as: Top notes of bitter orange, aldehydes, saffron, marjoram and hyssop; middle notes of orris, osmanthus, black violet, rock rose, olibanum, resin and tolu balsam; base notes of russian leather, cacao, vanila, atlas cedar, patchouli and woody notes. I'm not sure how much of that actually helps, though, so I'm happy to stick with my simpler, "woody, leathery masculine smell".Nicely presented in a zipped leather pouch around the bottle. I would say it lasts quite well, but not extraordinarily so, but is a strong enough scent that you really don't need much.

To begin with I wasn't sure having never heard of this brand, plus I thought the 'leather jacket' was a bit silly... Then I told my girlfriend and she said that John Varvatos is very well known and that the scents are gorgeous, so I got some. She LOVES it. I LOVE it. It's oudy and ambery and smoky. The fragrance lasts all day and it is my idea of the perfect scent. It's complicated in a good way and masculine, but my girlfriend has been known to wear it too. I can't say enough good things about this. After the initial dry down this settles into a lovely woody, smoky fragrance that then lasts all day with just one or two sprays. Fantastic!

Really a spray for someone who is highily individual , and like unusual gifts. It comes in a leather bikers jacket and packs a punch on presentation.The smell itself is just as forthright, and distinctive and again really for an extravert .I suppose if you really were a biker you might need a strong smell on those windy open roads but I suspect this will be worn but either young men or in more Urban environments , so it’s defiantly noticable .Not a gift for everyone but for someone who has a strong sense of self, and extravert this might be appreciated and gets 5 star fro unique appearance, presentation and self assured smell.

I wasn't familiar with this brand, but decided to take a chance. It comes nicely packaged, with a leather jacket over the bottle. Not sure what I think of that but it's definitely distinctive.The scent is quite strong and lasts a loooong time. It's not especially sweet, and certainly doesn't resemble hand wash or similar (which can happen).Dark is right, it is a dark sort of scent. slightly smokey, maybe a bit woody, certainly very masculine. My wife wasn't sure to start with but she likes it now.Not dared wear it to work yet - might have consequences.

This is quite an unusual scent. There’s no floral or perfume notes at all. It’s dark, smokey and woody. It’s quite unusual, especially the smokey scent - it’s skirting a fine line between something that’s dark and pleasant but also coming close to something less pleasant like tobacco. The packaging is crazy. The bottle comes housed is a zipped leather “jacket”. The zips are a bit stiff but they work. At around £50 it’s a bit pricey for me but you are getting some fairly unique packaging and an interesting scent that might not be to everyone’s liking.

Comes in a great bad boy biker leather wrapped bottle, my husband thought it was nice and different. We found it to be a smokey leathery smell which lasted a good few hours, doesn't last all day but then if just using in the evening should last. Definitely a night time scent.I was quite surprised my husband liked it, as it is very different to his normal one (hugo boss original) but he said it was pleasant to wear and liked the smell of the smokey leathery scent.

I found the scent of this lasted 4-6 hours. The imitation cable on the bottle is plastic and I think it makes the container look quite cheap. The fragrance is quite musky and spicy, a bit smoky too and although my brother likes it I am not keen, I prefer a lighter, woodier style. If you like heavier notes, you will probably love this.
