I had been looking for a new fragrance for a while before I bought this. Scrawling through Fragrantica, I could see that most of the top rated men's fragrances were either too common (Million, Le Male etc) or very expensive (DHI, Allure series etc.) I didn't want to blind-buy a fragrance that cost £50+ a bottle and risk hating it.That's when I stumbled upon John Varvatos EDT. It had almost unanimously good reviews on every site I checked, and the £29 for a 125ml bottle seemed perfectly affordable and reasonable. So I went for it, and I'm so glad I did. This is so different to any mainstream men's fragrance. Most of the well-known ones are woody or fresh, giving many of them a similar scent to each other, which gets tedious over time. This however is as oriental as oriental gets. Instead of using heavy notes of citrus, woods and vetiver, this uses heavy notes of leather, cinnamon, plum and fig to give this a spicy, sensual backbone. It opens with the smell of clean leather and cinnamon, with a little touch of green coming from the note of lime. This dries into a more fruity and spicy tone with the woody notes and the black pepper beginning to push through. It reminds me of pot pourri, but a very posh, expensive one that's not synthetic in the slightest, It's a very natural and beautiful blend that really is a credit to the John Varvatos house. The bottle itself is a well designed. It is wide and flat, with a leather band running round the mid section. It's nothing particularly fancy, but it's classy and makes it look more expensive than it is. The cap fits snugly and the sprayer works very well too, with good dispersion.Longevity is admittedly a problem with this fragrance. It doesn't last long on skin and doesn't really project at all. It will last much longer on clothing, but still won't project well. All in all it is a skin scent, and a very good one at that. This is very well liked by women, so it's a great scent to wear for close-contact situations (shall we say). All in all, this is not an everyday scent, but for many occasions there's no better or more suitable fragrance that I've ever smelled. Seriously give this one a go. For £30, it's a steal for how flipping good it smells.

This is a fairly middle-of-the-road (sorry, ‘classic’) scent that blends together some quite traditional male perfume aromas. Not particularly disguising the alcohol base are touches of cedarwood and leather, with a brighter sweet-but-not-too-sweet tang to it that’s a bit plummy. It lingers a completely average amount of time, not super-durable but still noticeable after a few hours if you’ve been hanging out in not-too-pungent environments. It’s smartly presented, in a refreshingly simple manner without the needless novelty trappings that other scents adopt to try to stand out. Inside the black card box with silver top (smart but completely disposable, or rather recyclable)is the glass bottle with a rounded shape that seems oddly reminiscent of an old-fashioned rum hipflask. The main silver top lifts off (not screw-top) to reveal a standard aerosol-style spray head that feels a touch basic. Of course it’s not completely unpretentious, but I’ve seen worse. This stuff doesn’t stand out in a crowd, either in terms of presentation or scent, but if you’re looking for a reliable masculine aroma that doesn’t hold too many surprises, this is a good choice. And at the current asking of twenty-five quid for a 75ml bottle, it will last a reasonably long time and is fairly good value in context.

I have tried in the years of manhood many aftershaves, from the traditional to the exotic, Yardley, Brut, Old Spice, Aramis, to name a few. A few years ago I received a Christmas gift, or was it a birthday, can't remember as I have had so many. I had a flat looking hip flask like bottle, black and rather nice leather look label on it. The name was unknown to me at the time. My expectations was a cheap aftershave of unknown quality. I did the usual sniff, interesting, spayed a little on my chin, oh yes! Someone had found something pretty amazing, a warm, heady fragrance that made me feel good, a fragrance that suddenly became better than those musky Brut of years past. This was a wonderful gift from my son.Seems he knew me better that I know myself. I would personally describe this as a woody, leather, and oriental spice with a wonderful manly appeal. The following year I received another JV of a different but still wonderful fragrance. That had been used up so time to renew my acquaintance with EDT. Is it wrong to fall in love with aftershave? It feels like the return of a long lost lover. Excuse me while I inhale the scent of this wondrous beauty.. err hem sorry...

I was asked if I’d like to review John Varvatos EDT 75ml Spray, and I said yes. This is an Eau De Toilette spray, which comes in a masculine designed gift box.The bottle design is very masculine; round the center of the glass bottle, you’ll find a black piece of leather that’s been stitched with the brand name on in silver. The bottle top is made from plastic. You’ll find the top notes of this fragrance are Medjool, Date Fruit, Mediterranean Herbs and West Indian Tamarind Tree Leaves. It’s heart notes are Coriander Seed Templar, Clary Sage Flower and Indian Ajowan. The base notes are Auramber, Vanilla CO2, Balsams, Eaglewood, Vanilla and Black LeatherThis is a nice, masculine fragrance. It has a woody and earthy smell, it’s not an over powering fragrance, which is perfect for everyday use.I was shocked at the RRP being £52, as it’s not worth that at all, but at the time of writing my review it’s £22.13 which is a lot more reasonable.Unfortunately, with it being an Eau De Toilette the fragrance didn’t last long, (about an hour to two hours), so due to that I can only give this product 4 stars.I can recommend this product.

I'm a big fan of this new cologne. It's not sweet and smells sort of smoky and woodsy. If it were a cocktail it might be an old fashioned or a manhattan. It has many leather-bound books and its house smells of rich mahogany, as a certain anchorman would say. But that might overstate its intensity since it is actually quite a light touch. I will be buying a new bottle when this one runs out (but it's lasting a good amount of time at my current rate of three spritzes most days). Also worth noting is that the bottle is stylish weighty. Leather-like label that matches the black glass and wraps around the whole bottle, with stitching at the back and minimal text.I know this shouldn't matter since it's not what you buy it for but it sort of does to me!

A nice product for which the fragrance lasts for the whole day (at least according to my wife). I am not sure how to describe the fragrance, suffice to say that I find it quite pleasant and not over-powering. Applying a small amount a day, I see a bottle lasting me for 6 months or so - basically I like the fragrance and will continue to use it. So why 4 stars? Easy, I like the fragrance of this product, however, increasingly I have been using a cream balm for the past few years and I find that it smooths my skin after shaving as opposed the the slight, yet noticeable antiseptic sting from this product.4 stars from me based upon the pleasant fragrance, with a full 5 stars were it in a creme balm format.

This is a well presented product that would make an excellent gift for all those friends and relatives who can't think what you'd really like!Scent wise it is over the woody/lemon side for me and so entirely acceptable. I can see me using this as a daily scent going forward. It doesn't continue to overpower after the strong initial hit, but fades slowly over the day. I like it.Price does vary on this item. It seems to have dipped as low as £22 but at the time of writing this review was around the £30 mark. I think that is Ok, but certainly stretching things. I'd be happier at the £20-25 mark, so have struck off a point. Recommended nevertheless as a great gift. Tasteful and well balanced.

As everyone has mentioned this is your classic, musky men’s scent that comes in a more modern bottle .I suspect it’s a good gift for a dad or a safe gift option. It works well for this as it’s more of an unusual name and generally John Varvatos tends to aim for a slightly upmarket client .My partner collects hundreds of scents and for him he felt this was ok , not the first smell he would go for but reasonable enough to wear on some occasions. It’s is a large bottle for the money but the fragerence doesn’t last all day due .Personally I would give it as a gift and for that it is well priced and ideal value .I prefer the other scents in his range but they are dearer .

I bought this for my son's birthday. He usually wears Aventus by Creed, which is divine. This is not quite in the same league, but it's a really nice fragrance. The bottle is gorgeous, and it's well worth buying. I would have given it 5 stars, if I'd never smelt Aventus. Fyi - there is a list somewhere in the deep, dark recesses of the internet, that gives a list of 11 fragrances that every man should have in in his collection, and this was on that list. I was interested to see that all of the fragrances on that list were ones that I know and love. That's how I came to know of this one.

This is a very pleasant male perfume/aftershave. In being asked to review this product, I was a little sceptical as I am reticent to try new fragrances without having tried them first. So when this arrived I was extraordinarily pleased as I really like it. So does my wife! The spray is well engineered - so no fiddly application and the fragrance goes on as a deep flowery bouquet. However, as it dries the fragrance deepens in tone and reveals an underlying musk smell that is entirely pleasant. I really like it, and quite remarkably will buy this again.

I’m delighted with John Varvatos EDT Spray; it has a very subtle, but masculine fragrance. And, as a bonus, it comes in a very attractive shiny black box that is great for a gift and, inside, an equally attractive, soft touch, bottle that looks very good on the bathroom shelf. When it arrived, I tried a test spray and walked into the room where my wife was sitting reading. She immediately looked up and said, “Oooh, what are you wearing, I like it, it’s really nice”.It’s now my new favourite!!

This is a very nice gents EDT with a spicey and woody fragrance. I think it would be better in a slimmer bottle though. It's difficult to hold this long bottle and apply it. Simply because it has to be sprayed on. The price point is good as you'd expect to pay around the £30 Mark for a 75ml bottle. The scent lasts quite well but it's better to 're-apply after a few hours to have a stronger scent. I actually prefer the scent of gents perfumes to ladies ones so I like wearing this myself.

Being ignorant I did not know what the EDT stood for. It stands for "Eau de Toilette" and is typically used as an aftershave. The product comes in a very nice box and thus would make a nice gift and it is easy to use with a push button to spray onto your hand to apply to your face.It has a pleasant aroma and I only use it when I am going somewhere special. The glass bottle is slightly transparent so you can see how much remains and the one bottle should last quite a long time.

Along with my pretty poor taste buds, my sense of smell isn't great. Thus, I'm not really the typical market for an aftershave or Eau de toilette. I had some people smell it while it was on me and it did smell fairly nice to them. I like that the packaging is pretty compact for delivery and taking it places with me. I can't really speak to its value, as I don't typically buy these kind of products. I don't think it's bad though, having briefly looked at similar products.

A pleasant smelling eau de toilette which has average lasting power. My husband has been wearing it for daytime at the office. It's a classic style fragrance and isn't distinctive but it is not too pricey and I think it offers OK value for money. Although it would need respraying later in the day to keep it going. The bottle is stylish and looks good on the dressing table or bathroom cabinet.
