This is the first time I have tried this fragrance, and I must admit that I think this is lovely, it has that classic appeal and seems to be quite long lasting. The maker’s description for this are head notes of basil, rhubarb, wormwood, quince, pepper and fennel, heart notes of lavender, juniper berries, jasmine, cinnamon, green leaves and orris root, with base notes of tobacco, tonka bean, patchouli, suede, balsam fir and oakmoss. What this means for us then is something that is clean and masculine with a spicy and woody scent with a background reminiscent of tobacco and leather, all of which combined create something that is distinctive and not overpowering. This is something I would hazard that is more for the daytime and office, although it would be okay for an evening dinner out, or if you have to attend a formal event. The bottle itself is quite nice to behold, and this is well packaged. If you have never tried this before you will probably find yourself pleasantly surprised. I started my working life in a department store and I know the women on the perfumery counters used to differentiate between fragrances that were for younger or older people. This therefore falls into more of a man’s scent rather than a younger person, such as a teenager.

This fragrance is great. I'm almost loath to write a review for fear of letting the cat out of the bag.As mentioned it has a sweet leathery smell which is very unlike most low cost highstreet fragrances currently. Quite gentlemanly yet exotic. It is available on the high street but sparsely. Certainly I never found it anything less than a major department store and certainly not in low cost perfume shops or Boots. So this is quite a distinctive smell that will turn heads. Now I don't care two hoots for presentation, but the bottle is simple, wide but thin. It's practical and nothing more. However, the label is not stuck down so expect to be able to slip it off (if you want to hide the name perhaps)...or if you grab it wrong, for it to slide off and then the bottle to fall. BE WARNED it might fall and break due to this.As for duration, I personally find that all eau de toilette scents wear off between 3-6 hours (dependant on activitiy, environment etc). I apply once for a night out (about 6-7 hours) and leave it there. If I were expecting a long day or a humid/hot environment I might have two applications. I have yet to see an eau de parfum version of this.Overall a great signiture scent.

This is presented nicely presented in a glass bottle with a leather label. ‘Vintage’ suggests it's designed for the more mature man, but it doesn't smell 'old fashioned'. (If you’re getting it as a gift, just there in mind the label reads 'Vintage').It’s a spray eau de toilette (not splash-on aftershave). You get 2.5 fluid ounces, which equates to 75 mL. It’s made in the USA.As far as I can tell, it’s a combination of synthetic fragrances. I was expecting ‘leather’, but the top note is clean and fresh. I got citrus and cedar with undertones of nutmeg and cinnamon. It’s not overpowering or headachey. It mellows to a ‘soapy’ base note slightly reminiscent, to me, of Paco Rabanne pour Homme. It does have longevity. Of course, one’s sense of smell fatigues quickly and it is sometimes no longer possible to smell one's own cologne. It made my wife sneeze a bit, but that may have been because we kept sniffing it to see how it was wearing. All in all, a pleasant, rich scent which isn't overpowering and suits the older man. I like it.

John Varvatos Vintage........An old school “manly man”kind of scent, no sugar, no fruit all spice and leather with a hint of soap on the finish.Presentation.........This comes in an attractive brown glass flagon, a little like a hip flask. The brown glass helps to protect the fluid within from sunlight damaging it. It is a spray top rather than an open top design. The bottle is decorated with a faux snake skin strip around the middle, subtle and masculine. The scent.........This is a “come close to smell me”kind of scent rather than a shout in your face, smell you from across the room kind of scent. It’s long lasting, a day at the office is no problem to it,you will still be smelling good on the return home. The actual scent is a mixture of things, I get a deep vintage leather starting note with a spicy middle note and a fresh soap, clean finish. It is quite old school, it is not a scent that suits a young lad who usually wears too much lynx, it’s a grown up sophisticated scent for the more discerning man.

Whilst this is probably one of my favourite of John Varvatos’ fragrances for men, with it’s citrus notes and overall more rounded and softer tones compared to some of the more polarising fragrances, I do find it a little on the weak side. By the middle of the day I could no longer smell it on me if I hunted out the places I’d sprayed. I lead a fairly active life so I’m probably expecting a lot of this, but I’ve had other fragrances with greater staying-power. If you’re not so active or are prepared to re-apply through the day however, then this might not be such an issue for you.The bottle is subdued and not in-your-face. It reminds me a little of Aramis in that sense. It sits stably on the shelf and it all seems well-made.Given the fact that some people who have reviewed this state that it has great staying-power, and others like me find that it doesn’t, I wonder if there are different ‘vintages’ of this fragrance that perform differently?

The John Varvatos ‘Vintage’ Eau de Toilette Spray is a men’s cologne / aftershave by the American menswear designer John Varvatos. The pricetag on the cologne is really quite reasonable, making this a relatively low cost ‘High-street’ cologne. However, don’t let that make you think that the look and style of the product is anything less than quality. It is a well-designed and wonderfully presented masculine cologne, with the look and style of the product reflecting the scent within. The cologne itself has a sharp spiciness to it, with deep layers of must and almost Christmas like cinnamon and spice. It’s sort of a ‘classic’ men’s scent. One that’s very masculine with a hint of exotic about it.Too much and you’ll be heading towards Italian Car Salesman territory. But a quick spray or two, and it offers up really good, quietly lingering scent for the day (or a night out).

The blurb for this John Varvatos Eau De Toilette describes it as sensuous. Well that may be true for some. My wife however describes it as "down and dirty". That's to say its more earthy and macho than light and sensual. More country walks than ballroom. We both like it though. Its not one of those scents that everyone in the room knows you're wearing as soon as you walk in. Its more subtle than that as the scent stays reasonably close to the wearer. It doesn't waft all over the place. It lasts a reasonable time, probably about 4 to 5 hours max. compared with similar scents of this type on the market at around £30 for 100ml it probably about on the money. So all in all a decent scent for the guy who wants to smell cool but keep his masculinity apparent.

The four-star review is simply because I'm having a hard time deciding whether I like this or not. It's nearly impossible to write a meaningful 'review' of a scent (IMO) because what one person things is a little wiff of Heaven, another may regard as the stink of Hell. Here's the 'official' description of this scent:Top Notes: Santolina, Juniper Berries, White LavenderHeart Notes: Patchouli, Fir Balsam, JasmineBase notes: Tonka Beans, Tobacco, SuedeFor me, it's perhaps just a tad too overpowering... but I can't even say that for sure. One day I like it, the next I'm not so sure. I suspect that this might be an especially 'Marmite' type of scent, and would recommend that you try to sample it before buying.

I wear mens fragrances all the time but I have never worn one that has drawn has many compliments as this one as. I like it too; its manly in a subtle, understated way and is certainly not one of those aroma’s that can you make you feel a little self-conscious in public places. Very importantly to me is that it fades nicely too – some fragrances can seem to linger even after bathing and become annoying, but this doesn’t, lasting just about the length of a working day. This would make a suitable present for an older male relative but from experience I must warm that it can be difficult to find in the high street stops

Out of the box, the bottle is fairly attractive if unexciting, shaped like a rather squat hip flask. I like the faux snake skin label with the seam on the left side. The lid fits snugly and the spray works well. As for the scent itself, well “vintage” is definitely the operative word. It is very masculine and reminds me of Paco Rabanne or perhaps Eau Savage from the 80s but slightly more spicy. I can’t see this replacing my favourites (Bleu de Chanel and Acqua di Parma) however it definitely feels like a scent I would wear in the evening whilst on holiday and is reasonably priced at under thirty pounds for 75ml.

I rather like this fragrance. I'm a committed Armani eau pour homme eau de toilette user and that's all I buy (at great expense). Having tried this out for about two weeks I have to say it's a very pleasant and pleasing alternative.I do not understand the wine-tasting style comments about top notes, heart notes and base notes (although I do play a guitar), and for the most part I think it's a load of bowlocks, however, this has a lovely fragrance and I like it. Probably best to track down a high-street sampler first, but I will buy more when this bottle is empty.

Vintage has a woody, spicy scent that is 'warmer' than the more citrus type scents for men. More importantly, when I let the missus have a whiff, she went "phwoarrrr!" and got this strange look in her eye...Some time later...The box is stylish with the gold and brown theme, echoed in the gold lid of the bottle and the brown glass with leather-effect surround. Clearly you need to have smelt aftershave rather than rely on my description of the smell - or the reaction of my missus - but this is a better price than the high street.

20.6.2018

Obviously, this isn't for for my missus as I saw it and decided to get it.The packaging looks classy with the bottle resembling a hip flask. The scent has an almost musky, spicy smell to it with no sweet/fresh tones. Ideal for evening/night time wear. It isn't overpowering but is instantly recognisable if someone comes closer to you. It complements my Mugler A*Men and LaCoste fragrances. It is definitely a 'man fragrance' suiting older chaps in their 40s upwards (which funnily enough includes me).

21.6.2018

I found this product to be a good 'value' after-shave without smelling 'cheap'. It's ridiculously easy nowadays for every Z class celebrity, reality star, pop singer, etc to have their own fragrance. They all pursue a £40 or £50 price point. Most of these fragrances are undistinguished and over-priced. This is a cedar-smelling straightforward men's aftershave that does the job. Personally, my wife prefers me to no 'slap it on' as she would welcome with Hugo Boss Green, but it is still fine.

20.6.2018

Presented in a vintage-style bottle, this Body Spray is awesome. The scent is pleasant, not powerful, but it's easily detectable. The scent is distinctly manly compared many Spays marked for Gents that smell more like Ladies Perfume. It sticks around for 3 to 4 hours so one application may be required depending on your particular circumstances. I apply about 3 times in a day and that seems to cover my working hours.
