This is the i7-6700 (non-K) processor, so not the overclocking capable K version which costs more.I decided on the i7-6700 (and so the Z170 chipset) rather than the i7-5820K (X99 chipset) primarily based on price and usage needs. The total cost of i7-6700 and Z170 motherboard was 350 pounds versus for the i7-5820K and X99 motherboard would be over 500 pounds.True the i7-6700 only has 4 cores, while the i7-5820K has 6 cores, but this is sufficient for gaming, microsoft office and web browsing. If I was doing video editing or using other intensive apps then the i7-5820K would be a better choice. Also at the time of writing a method of overclocking these non-K processors has been discovered (BCLK unlock),and motherboard manufacturers are said to be pushing out BIOS updates to allow this, so overclocking these non-K processors may be a possibility soon.

Fantastic, i am not a Intel or AMD fanboy but this is my first Intel CPU since having a Pentium II (preferred AMD before due to lower prices ,family man has to cut costs) , since this one has come down to affordable price i decided to give my PC a boost and boy does it fly.I had a AMD FX8320 before ,which is not a dreadfull chip but the change is quite something. My heavily modded Skyrim went up by over 20FPS in average so i am happy ,so definately a gamers choice.I also purchased a ASUS Z170-A Motherboard to go with this and the installation process was completely trouble free (i love the ASUS quality and their BIOS, 3rd ASUS mobo in a row for me) ,just had to put it together and install Windows etc..and thats it ..marvelous.Higly recommended CPU.

This is an amazing CPU! I finally bit the bullet and upgraded from my AMD 1055T, I didn't want to get another AMD and went straight for this. Gaming is significantly smoother than it used to be and as a benchmark of how much of an improvement this CPU made I went from not being able to get more than 60fps in BF4 on Ultra settings to now 100fps. I also run World Community Grid on my computer, quite simply it enables your computer to participate in research for humanitarian causes by running CPU intensive calculations. The time to process one task has halved! What's more is I was able to overclock this, despite it not being a K edition, thanks to the Gigabyte BIOS not restricting it.

Chose this and a msi gaming m3 h170 mobo over an i5 6600k and a much more expensive z170 mobo. Made the right decision all the way as overclocking doesn't add much performance to even the latest games. For example I watched a YouTube video and the i7 6700 actually ran games like the witcher 3 and gta 5 at slightly higher frame rates compared to an i5 6600k clocked at 4.7ghz. The added benefit of hyper threading means that future games that require more than 4 cores will run just fine with the i7. Definitely choose this as a pose to spending £60 more on an i5 6600k, z170mobo and the required after marked liquid cooler needed for overclocking!

Straight forward to install in a new motherboard and my existing Freezer 13 cooler was compatible and looks much more effective than the one provided with the CPU. I selected the 3.4GHz CPU over the 4GHz 6700K because I saw some adverse comment on the latter but in a motherboard that I've seen described as 'entry level' it mostly runs at 4GH from the start on the default settings. So far, the latest retail technology from Intel seems to be very good but I would describe it as quite expensive which I suppose is what one must expect.

Full retail processor with stock fan brand new and sealed. Haven't run core temps yet so will update on that later. It is low powered and very fast. You are not going to be having any problems running virtual machines or multiple applications with heavy processor demands, I mean just how good does a 65w processor get. My tip is to set a watch on this and wait until the price drops then get in there quick and get yourself this great processor at a bargain price. You'll get some years out of this wonderful chip.

Good performance and 100% stable. Loses a star for price still being a tad heavy. So, not quite worth it, but it will be good for a number of years.I went for the non-k because gaming is not the priority. Junk the standard cooler and get a Freezer 7 pro 2 for 15 quid for a quiet life. It's a perfect match and easy to fit and does the job nicely when pushing the CPU to it's limits. You'll wonder how you put up with your old system.

Excellent value for money should keep your pc running well for several years you know you can trust this cpu for all the tasks you ask of excellent for streaming films or just as good for gaming you can even buy one for around £250 now so its a no brainer you don't need k models over clocked using more power and stressing your pc this will easily deal with literally anything you can throw at it buy one

Very fast CPU. Having picked this up for the same price as my previous i5 4690k, I have noticed quite a performance boost in CPU intensive programs because of hyperthreading.CPU runs cool at idle at 28 degrees with my Cooler Master 412S on silent preset. This processor is also Overclockable using the Base clock method on most Z170 motherboards which allows you to have a much cheaper i7 6700k.

£210 for the skylake i7, amazing bargain! I've thrown everything I can at it (AAA games to development software, 3DS Max, Maya and UE4), still haven't managed to throttle it! Also recent news that people have found a way to overclock the non-K CPU's (as a trade for losing Intel HD graphics), by the time my cpu is limiting the system I'll be able to boost it! Couldn't be happier

This is a new build PC and I have had no problems installing i7. It has a lot of new features and is fast. I have installed a couple of printers so far and the i7 makes it a bit easy to update and find older models. Sometimes confusing but it is just getting used to the way of it's workings. So at present stage of enlightenment I am happy with the workings of i7.

I built a new PC, but wanted to avoid win10. Prefer win7. Snag is the latest generation of intel CPU (HoyLake) have been crippled deliberately to stop win7 running. I know microsoft is desperate to get everyone on win10 but thats just mean.Anyway, this previous generation (SkyLake) CPU does the job & is happily running win7pro at a hell of a lick.

Currently I would say the x99 has a slight performance lead over the z170 and at a lower cost, BUT the Z170 has technological improvements that will come into fruition over the next few years. So if your willing to buy a new computer over the next few years go with the x99. If your looking for a upgradeable base go with this Z170.

I still wonder to this day why these things are so expensive. Although this is a good CPU it does not warrant the high cost. However it does the job lovely and even allows me to run Hyper V for those additional machines I kick in every so often

Awesome, I don't overclock so decided not to spend the extra for the K version and I'm glad I didn't. So far handles everything I can throw at it without breaking a sweat (which is a lot of new, high end games). Couldn't ask for more.
